Ukiyo

Ukiyo

Dead
Ukiyo eyes were slowly drifting closed as she walked along the path of flowers. Bushes lined this walkway with beautiful displays of color and fragrance. All types of flowers were present; fruit, weeds, grass, and many others. Ukiyo blissfully ran her fingers around every one of them, spinning to switch hands and smell the pollen residue left behind on the one she'd just been using. The sun shined bright overhead, highlighting the magnificent pedals of her affection. Her hair felt hot atop her head, and every so often she condensed some chakra into water to cool herself off. Drops dripped from her hair’s tips, and Ukiyo exclaimed with a squeak her excitement at the thought of it watering the grass below. When she saw a beautiful yellow flower, pedals plump and stamen fertile, Ukiyo leaned in to for a sniff. Her nose gently rustled the center of the flower, brushing stamen aside and covering itself in pollen. She nuzzled the soft brushes as the delicate pedals fanned her ticklish cheeks. Ukiyo giggled and closed her eyes.

Suddenly, Ukiyo felt another flower brushing her cheeks. She didn’t recognize it at first; soft, very small puffs of fuzz bombarding her face one after another. She turned to see what was causing this, and there in the brush protruded a half-empty dandelion flower.

Ukiyo

Dead
Ukiyo picked the flower and blew the rest of its seeds off into the wind. She watched as the seeds traveled; some getting caught by branches, some by bushes, some floated off with the wind and some landed peacefully on the grass. Ukiyo picked up one of the seeds that fell on the grass and held it up to her face at eye-level. She made a hand sign with her other hand and concentrated. She molded her chakra and channeled mokuton slowly into the seed. She saw the seed’s fluff pedal quivering as the chakra swirled within it. Ukiyo closed her eyes as she summoned more chakra, though keeping the balance between earth and water within the seed was difficult. The seed constantly threw her off; either sucking up water rapidly or earth trying to break its shell. Ukiyo cringed as she meticulously balanced her chakra, the more she channeled, and the more difficult it became to control it. As the seed (and Ukiyo) approached its breaking point, the complexity of organizing the internal components of the seed through chakra manipulation became exponentially more difficult. Ukiyo could detect the entire internal structure of the seed through the chakra bond between them. She began to see the seed even with her eyes closed, and had full awareness of what it experienced. Ukiyo let out a burst of chakra in an attempt to form a catalyst for the seed’s roots, when she noticed a sudden change in the seed’s behavior. The dandelion seed was no longer forming necessary components for a root system. Instead, the seed began going through mitosis.

Ukiyo

Ukiyo

Dead
Ukiyo saw the seed begin to bud another seed within itself; gathering materials from within the shell and forming a smaller seed with the same internal structure as the first. Ukiyo was shocked to detect this; it was unlike any other seed she had tried to grow. She continued channeling her chakra and observing the strange behavior. Eventually, baby seed began growing too large for its parent to contain it. Ukiyo wondered if it would break the shell, taking the place of its parent and achieving an end result no more (or less) impressive than a snake shedding its skin. As the crucial moment approached, Ukiyo saw something completely unexpected. The parent seed began to peel back, allowing its child to leave without killing it entirely. However it didn’t simply fall out. The newborn seed was still connected to the parent with what appeared to be the same type of pedal as a normal dandelion seed has. The parent seed then peeled itself back in, sealing the hole. Ukiyo opened her eyes and saw that it was exactly as she had detected. The seed had undergone mitosis and stayed connected to the new seed through a pedal. The new seed has the same internal structure as the original. If the first seed could spawn a new one…I wonder if the new one can. After several hours, Ukiyo had formed a network of dandelion seeds filling the path of flowers. It covered all the bushes, filled the path itself, and even reached some branches from trees overhead. Ukiyo’s chakra was exhausted as was she. She cleaned up her mess and headed back to her home, storing the seeds in her “pocket”.
