Gakuto Sōseiji:

Nagare stood at the center of the arena. Not just any arena, but the famous Arbiter's Grounds, which laid atop the tomb full of ancient historical figures and recently passed kage, a landmark made in their honor as a burial site. The cold air stung his pale skin and his eyes burned with passion and determination. His glasses sat on his nose, slightly low, and he took them off entirely, sticking them in a pocket. There was something of this scene that made him nostalgic, made him remember the old days with Gakuto. They were once close friends. Gakuto was from the Kirigakure branch of Sōseiji. His family retreated to Kumogakure after Hao Uchiha destroyed Kiri. Even after the reconstruction, they decided not to return to Kiri but rather become settled in Kumo. Shortly after the move, Nagare met Gakuto and they became close friends, always staying at one another's houses and training together. They were very similar, in humors, interests, and logical prowess. It had been a total of 5 months since they met.

Things had changed. Gakuto had always been the ambitious type, eager to get whatever he wanted through force. But never force this brutal, this unjust. This change couldn't have happened so quickly. Just hours earlier, everything was normal.

It was originally an average day in Kumo, where the sun was overhead and the clouds gleamed white, just as any other day. Nagare hadn't seen Gakuto in weeks, so he went to the boy's house to pay a visit. He found the door unlocked, and peered inside. Gakuto was no where to be seen, but his immediate family was inside, and they were all unconscious, from some sort of ninjutsu. Naga further investigated to find a glass display, recently shattered by the looks of it, within his parents' room, and the sheath of a blade nearby. With this, he notified medical nin and let them take care of the situation with his family. In the meantime, he and Horui used their Heat Mapping technique to hunt him down. By the time they picked up a scent, it was dark out and the moon sat ominous watching over the village. The Arbiter's Grounds. This was where he was, and Naga released his kekkei genkai, putting Horui back into his body.

Approaching the center of the Arena, he stood, glasses in pocket, eyes straight ahead. Nagare was on a quest for answers. "Gakuto. Come out, I know you're here."

A demented laugh was released into the air, and a figure appeared directly in front of Nagare. "I didn't realize you had already developed a sensory ninjutsu. I applaud your focus."

"Tell me what the hell is going on before I have to kill you myself."

"I'm done here. I'm moving on to greater things. With my current condition, I will die one day. But I can't let that happen. I won't just let myself fade away after a vicious battle with another shinobi or an equally vicious one with age. I am to become immortal. Sure, I could stay here and remain a measly Genin in spite of my abilities. But I have plans. I strive for power, I strive for influence. I could destroy this place...with a look."

"You're not making any sense. What's wrong with you? I will kill you now if you don't tell me the truth."

"Nothing is WRONG, little Nagare. I simply want peace, just as much as anyone else in these great nations. I have a plan. I'll unify this world under my banner, my leadership. I'll extend my life to the ends of infinity with the life force of others. A conqueror is what we need, not a bunch of stupid shadows reigning their people like blind sheep. We're on the verge of war here, and I'm going to stop it. My family...they called me crazy. They said I needed help. I showed them. And now I have Shōgeki, my father's most prized blade. My second step in this war, and the path to peace. My first step..." he paused and opened his right eye, revealing a sharingan with 2 tomoe, "was this. I killed a little Genin for it, quite easy actually. And the possibilities are endless. Now, I'm sorry for this, but you can't stop me, and if this is what it takes to leave, your death is only the third step on my path to peace, my path to greatness, my path to immortality."

He took the blade from a strap around his back, and pointed it at Nagare from his place. The tension in the air was thick enough to stagnate the cold breeze. His Sharingan stared back into his best friend's magenta eyes. A death would occur tonight, the question was which?

Nagare wasn't going to let his friend leave so easily. He was obviously not himself, for some reason or another, and Naga wouldn't let him go to aspire to become a conqueror, an immortal. With a Sharingan, he just might meet his goal and make life miserable for everyone else.
"I'll make this quick. I'm sorry."

Maintaining eye contact with Gakuto, Nagare released Horui from his body, who made a series of hand signs and began to breathe in chakra. Gakuto smiled, and opened his right Sharingan, mimicking the hand seals as the rolled on. "Don't think you can just take me out with Katon. The Uchiha are known for their Katon." The two made the final hand seal, and blasted two giant fireballs at the same time. The only difference was that Gakuto's was much larger in size due to his Sharingan.

Nagare thought of a plan somewhat quickly, signaling Horui to jump back before the flames hit each other. Instead of doing the same as he told Horui, he dashed at them, ducking under the burst before sprinting at Gakuto with rapid speed. "You still don't know how to really use an Eizou, Nagare." Gakuto's kekkei genkai activated as well, and an Eizou emerged from his figure. Unlike Horui, this Eizou could talk because Gakuto had the Gemini Tattoo of the Souseiji tattooed down his arm. Nagare didn't care, and didn't deviate from his path to Gakuto. Horui picked up the pace and punched the Eizou in the stomach, followed by a kick and a release of Raiton: Shoujun Denka. The Eizou fell to the floor, hopefully buying enough time for Nagare to get some damage in on Gakuto.

Nagare moved quickly and threw his fist at Gakuto's smug countenance, but the glowing Sharingan before him spun for half a second, and suddenly Gakuto was ducking far below Naga's outstretched fist. Gakuto headbutted Naga, kicked the back of his knee, and pushed him to the ground, keeping his sword pressed to his neck. A thin stream of blood trickled from his throat where the blade pressed steadily.

Horui began to charge up yet another fireball, knowing full well that Nagare would be smart enough to dodge it. He shaped the superheated chakra and launched it as a large spherical blaze directed at the two static bodies. A large burst, and the flames consumed the area. When the smoke cleared, the two stood opposite of each other; Nagare was about 2 meters east of Horui, while Gakuto was 10 meters or so northwest of Horui. They were looking at each other, focused, and Gakuto made many fast hand seals. His speed with them was incredible. "Water Release: Water Dragon Jutsu!"

A dragon, possessing the illusion of blood-red Sharingan of his own, formed from writhing water seeping from cracks in the ground. It grew to massive size and paralleled itself with the tip of Gakuto's blade. Gakuto rushed forward, and the dragon trailed behind. Horui stepped forward to try and help Nagare, but was help back by an unseen hand. He turned and saw the forgotten Eizou of Gakuto's, and kicked himself free, sprinting to Naga's side. He was moving more quickly that Gakuto was since Gakuto was exchanging speed for focus while he had that dragon in tow. Horui finally made it to Nagare, and touched his chest. They looked into each others' eyes one more time before Horui burst into a shimmering light and faded away. They were one again. Nagare looked ahead to the Eizou in the west and Gakuto with the dragon directly ahead. His neck was still in pain from the cut it had suffered, although luckily it was not deep or lethal. His chakra limits were expanded upon re-fusion with Horui, so he had more options than before, at least. It should've been enough to keep him afloat for the moment. He assessed his next move carefully.

Gakuto was very close at this point, and he swiped his blade horizontally across Nagare's chest. Nagare dodged this, of course, but the dragon that followed the tip of the blade wasn't as easy. It collided with Nagare, catching him in his current and continuing until they both crashed into an arena wall. He slumped against the wall, with his head in pain and his body drenched. He slowly got back to his feet, looking back at Gakuto.

Gakuto had gotten significantly slower in his actions. There was heavy breathing accompanying most of them. He was sweating, and his Sharingan eye almost twitched with fatigue. The transplanted eye must have been a huge drain on his chakra. Nagare saw his chance to strike.

He took the scroll from his hip, and summoned Takeshi and Amaya. The two bats circled Gakuto ominously in the dark. He struggled to make a hand sign, but could not manage to from sheer exhaustion. It was a trait of the Sōseiji; they had terrible stamina. In combination with a Sharingan that wasn't his sapping chakra from his body with the Eizou active, he was nearly out of it. Nagare turned to the Eizou who was just now getting off of the ground, and blasted a series of three fireballs at it. The Eizou noticed them in time, and dodged the first, but couldn't dodge the next two and was overtaken by the flames. Its death was showcased by a brilliant light and its figure fading away.

Now, Nagare faced back to the bats flying over Gakuto. He made another hand seal, and began taking slow steps to the group."Summoning Collaboration Technique: Hellfire Cage,"

Amaya flew at a higher altitude and released a plume of noxious gas, unnoticeable to the naked eye. The gas blanketed the area, choking the olfactory senses of Gakuto. Nagare made another hand seal, and began to charge Katon chakra. "You may have a Sharingan, but I'm the ringmaster here. Burn in my rampage!"

Takeshi released a Wind Release: Great Breakthrough in a full circle around them, pressurizing the gasses and confining them to the space around Gakuto. He used a Wind Release: Wind Vacuum Wave just after. Nagare took responded immediately, and blew a spew of his own flames, lighting the wave on fire (a technique he had practiced in his fight with Zetsume). The blades of raging flame expanded as they grew closer and closer to Gakuto's weakened body. They finally hit the border of the noxious gas, and a giant explosion erupted, shaking the arena and sending a shockwave out. The blades of wind covered in flame shattered, sending millions of microscopic wind shards flying in all directions. Nagare, Takeshi, and Amaya all jumped back from the blast, landing safely. The dust cloud cleared after a few seconds, but the flames raged afterwards. They were a deep red, as red as Nagare's eyes, as red as Gakuto's Sharingan. Nagare released the summoning jutsu, and Takeshi and Amaya disappeared. He stood silently, waiting for a response. A shadow emerged from the destruction. Looking up, the shadow was clearly Gakuto, who was half-hunched over, looking uncomfortably up at Nagare. His entire body was covered in severe burns and tiny cuts. The only areas that weren't mutilated by one of the two were his hair and his eyes. His Sharingan seemed more vibrant against the light of the flames. His clothes were burnt, and he was breathing even harder than before.

"Must I kill you now? I don't want this any more than you do."

"Ha. I've definitely underestimated you. You'll get your chance to kill me, just not now. You've used plenty of chakra, pulling off that combo right then. And you're in no condition to chase after me. As far as I'm concerned, that's all I wanted from this battle." He turned away from Nagare, and faced the flames. "I'll see you again, once I'm immortal. Your finite existence will be your downfall." And with that, he was gone, without one step, without one movement. He disappeared entirely.

Nagare sat down and watched the flames die out over the course of an hour. He was left alone in the dark, with even the moonlight being shaded over by clandestine clouds high above. He would've have cried for his fallen friend, left in the wake of this new Gakuto, but instead stood up and began walking home.

His eyes were too tired for tears, but even in sleep, the image of Gakuto's Sharingan haunted him.
