Thread 1

Hana was looking for trouble and she was hoping to find some in the form of a fight. She stepped right up to a training ground in Konoha and tried to put aside the fact that she was a foreigner. She had been in a strange place for years now. The separation from her village shattered the notion that she had to be a polite shinobi and now she felt rather free indeed. What better way to be free than to make some noise!? She was armed with fire jutsu and… a severe lack of any other sort of equipment. Still, she was confident in her abilities and was ready to accept any challenge. If she was going to make a name for herself in this village she was going to have to fight with some damn style!

“Calling all challengers! Come fight me if you dare!” Hina blew a giant fireball and shot it straight up into the air. “Land of the fire are ya? Let’s see what kind of fire jutsu you all are really capable of!”

It had been a while since Abathor had gotten out of the house for some reason that didn't involve work, but between the crisp, fresh air and late morning sunlight, she couldn't say she regretted it in the least. His hair pulled up with a series of pins, loosely framing his face but tied sufficiently to keep it out of his eyes, though he had left his beard grooming accessories at home today. Not expecting too much trouble, he had left most of her equipment at home, carrying only his clothes on his back.

Dressed in a relaxing tracksuit and simple leather boots, he crossed the village to the food stand where he had been told a festival would be gathering. Why he had the urge to was something he was uncertain of, but Abathor had not complained at the sudden change of fate. He had grown too used to operating by himself, at any rate, and he wanted a fight. A refresher on the basics could hardly hurt after the frenzy of his recent ambitions to be a stronger ninja.

And it was hardly as if the village did not have need of his wisdom elsewhere. That he had been given six months was more than she could have reasonably asked for, at any rate, and had shown the discretion of the village senior advisers. After making his way to the alleged festival - it hadn't been an official arrangement, he had merely been tipped off to it's likelihood - he turned his eyes skywards, checking the time by means of the sun.

He was still early, and could afford to rest and think awhile before anyone else arrived; if they even intended to come at all, at any rate. Quietly taking a seat on the patio, he ordered a pot of green tea and settled down to wait. It seemed like he'd been doing a lot of that, lately... well, after everything was settled here, perhaps he'd still find time to practice his bowmanship. It had been a while since he had used a bow and he still has not bought one for himself.

He saw a young woman that reminded him much of hina with her excitement who wanted to fight. She does lack a headband so she must be one fool to chlallenge here. Abathor does not want to make her embarrassed so he will fight. He knows this will be a fight to watch. School a young woman and mget her number too is the plan.

"I will challenge you young girl. Let this be a lesson for your grandchildren not to challenge the people of the leaf."

“A challenger finally accepts my challenge!” Hana shouts as she turns to face Abathor. She is very… put off by his appearance because he was a god damned old man. Was this the best the village had to offer her? An old man who looked like he was on his last legs? She didn’t really know what to think. Still, she wasn’t going to just turn down the challenge. If the old man wanted to get hurt, then this was going to be his own downfall. She debated assigning a wager to the fight since she was quite sure she was going to win. She said, “well I don’t know what is compelling you to accept my challenge of all people, but so be it! Let’s go!” She was itching to set something on fire…

Hana starts off by jumping back to create some distance. She backed off by about ten meters and shouted, “what’s your name by the way?” As she spoke she would attempt to form the handseals that form a fireball that would shoot out at Abathor at a slow speed but would eventually accelerate once it was fully formed. She was sure he had some kind of defensive jutsu or technique to handle it. This wasn’t even her most powerful attack!

Hina didn’t think her ninjutsu would have ever made her any money. Her mind was filling of all sorts of ways that these fire jutsu could be used for nefarious purposes. She made a mental note to tuck away her wallet away into her jacket and make sure to slip it back out of view. It was dangling at her waist by a chain and she didn’t want to accidentally set her money on fire. She caught some workers in the corner of her eye setting up some kind of festival. The workers carefully heaved a series of boxes and carried them into a small cart which was then pulled down an alleyway and out of sight. Hina also noticed that a couple of guards had circled around from the front of the festival area meaning that they were probably going to get started soon. Hina’s heart was beating so hard when he realized how much she’d just love to set all of that crap on fire. Something told her that this high value crime was not work the thrill.

Hana was so focused on the festival that she wasn’t really paying attention to Abathor. She wasn’t even worried about losing to this old man. Who would be? Instead of focusing on the fight she then thought about how she needed to count her ryo and also take the time to stuff it somewhere that wouldn’t be easily found. She had a small area cut out in one of the floorboards of the hotel she was staying at, but accessing it required her to move around a bunch of furniture. She had learned a lot during her days of petty theft and he knew how to make it difficult for a thief to find a stash.

If anything, this experience brought back memories of it's own. He had spent only a minimal amount of time working with others as a ninja in reality, but he could still easily recall the years of his Geninhood. Unsurprisingly, that had coincided directly with his transfer away from home and into the hidden village of leaf, with the culture shock and feelings of isolation that had come with it, so it was hardly a surprise.

His team mates had been good people, and he nominally kept in touch with them, but could he say they had anything in common anymore? Not particularly. Still, she couldn't help but worry; Would he prove a worthy instructor at his age to this foreigner fire jutsu woman, with his relative lack of hard mission experience and catastrophically short-handed social expertise?

The thought that he might was almost as unsettling as the thought that he might not. Well, for now he would take things as they came, and hopefully he'd be able to catch sight of the next generation he had been entrusted with.

Abathor is just as distracted as Hana was but not because he was disrespecting her. He jumped to the side with his superior maneuverability and dodged the fire jutsu then runs at Hana and does a flying kick at her chest. He may not know any jutsu but he is very tough for someone that looks as old as he does. If his hit lands he will stand back and watch to see what the girl will do next.

Abathor was right. Hana did underestimate him. He was somehow physically superior to her in every way since she had never thought to train her body past the requirements of becoming a Genin. He effortlessly dodged the fireball that did happen to cacreen towards the festival but sputtered out before reaching it. She could tell the guards were quite nervous about her attack and looked like they would take action if she kept being so reckless. Why were the putting a festival up near the training grounds anyways? Seemed like a bad judgment call in her book.

Still, Hana couldn’t even make out that Abathor had dodged the attack because the fireball took up so much of her field of view until it launched forwards. Abathor made it to her and even managed to throw a kick out that landed square in Hana’s chest. It sent her flying backwards just a couple feet but it was more than enough to put her on her ass. She wasn’t going to admit defeat just because this man was a taijutsu user though. Hana would attempt to form more handseals and send a different fire jutsu at Abathor. She made the fatal mistake of not creating distance though, so she was pretty wide open. It was a risk and reward trade off though. She wished him luck if he wasn’t fast enough to dodge this at such a close range!

Abathor

He had woken up and thought today's going to be a good day. He doesn’t know how, but he's got a good feeling that things are going to wind-up just wonderful by the end of the day! That was his attitude then and now he was thinking maybe the day would not turn out so well. He stares at Hana who never told him her name.

“What is your name girl?”

He is too fast to even let her form handseals. He is fine if she finishes the jutsu what ever it is because it will damage them both this close he is sure. He smiles at Hana and tries to punch her repeatedly in the chest and face. He thinks she is way too green to be fighting and bragging how great she is.

Maybe it's the morning air that's got her spirits hoisted by their hairs, or maybe it's just that he's had a really great night's sleep, or maybe it's the coffee he took earlier that's talking. For whatever reason, though, he felt like he is practically dancing around Hana with her inexperience.

“Learn to answer your elders when you are prompted. You are not nearly experienced enough to challenge the likes of leaf.”

Hana was not happy with what was going on. Abathor had the gall to just step up to her and start attacking her and trying to interrupt her handseals. This was unfortunate because there were quite a number of handseals associated with this jutsu. She furrowed her brow and did her best to dodge the attacks but they mostly landed on her body and shoulder. She was able to keep the handseals going by weaving them in and out of the punches that were being thrown at her. She completed the handseals and inhaled throughout the pain of the punches and let loose the ten fireballs. They rapidly launched from her mouth and shot in front of her, aimed at Abathor. Of course, her aim was absolutely garbage seeing as though this was point blank and she was doing her best to breath out the fire and shoot at Abathor… but it was pretty hard to aim her mouth when her whole body twisted with every impact from her opponent’s fists.

“My name is Hana god damn it!” she said as her jutsu finished and she took steps backwards. The jutsu usage had left her winded and on top of that she was wounded from the series of punches. She wasn’t done yet though. One last hurrah to see if she could really stand on her own. She ran towards Abathor and tried to hit him with a left hook followed by a knee to the stomach. If she couldn’t beat him on the jutsu grouds then perhaps she would be able to give him a taste of his own medicine.

Maybe getting involved in this fight had been a bad idea, but at the time he'd been having so much fun, and Hana really had been in the need of a lesson in humility. Now, one can see the results of that decision just by looking at her face. The echoes of dark circles are traced beneath her eyes, the color's drained from her face, but this is all to make her a better person.

Abathor doesn’t want to cause lasting harm but teah a lesson to the young lady. She hasn't experienced a sneeze fit since early yesterday. The meds must be working. Maybe that's why she's so determined he thinks.

“Good Hana but don’t you think this jutsu is dangerous for this close combat you can’t even aim.”

Abathor singed his shirt when the fireballs came out but it was easy to see she was shooting fire and all he had to do was dance around and make sure that the mouth didn’t point right at him. Sometimes his punches were able to move her head by redirect her chin over and over and overagain.

To add a cherry Hana thinks it is a good idea to run at him. He allows the left hook to smacky against his arm held up to block and he dodges the knee by going back a tiny bit. Then he raises his hands to slap her sense into her.

“End this please. I have won and you have lost. Let us go to the festival.”

Hana couldn’t believe that she got her ass kicked by such a wimpy looking old man. It was embarrassing to say the least. He Had beaten her around like a rag doll and now she was about to get beat up some more. Even her punch had been blocked and her knee had been evaded like it was nothing. She was tired from the burst of energy and it wasn’t like she was very strong to begin with. It made it all the more embarrassing as she got slapped silly. It showed that she wasn’t even worth a serious attack. This was all she needed to know that this fight was over and although she was ready to give up, she lashed out with one last punch to create some distance. She could only hope that she didn’t miss or have it get blocked. It was aimed at his stomach and would be very satisfying to land.

Cheeks red and temper rishing, Hana starts shouting expletives and runs off. She could admit defeat even if she really did want to shoot fireballs at Abathor while his back was turned. “I’ll be back to face you again next week!” she shouted over her shoulder. She would be stronger then and then she’d be able to see if he could face her when she had time to prepare for his taijutsu style. Hana ran back to her hotel and made sure to hide away in her room. She was starting to bruise and that wasn’t a good thing. She had to focus her medical chakra into her body and heal the bruises. She wasn’t good enough to heal during combat but healing outside of combat had always been simple enough. She watched in a mirror as her bruises blossomed and then were erased from her skin. Now that she had calmed down it was just in time for her to get mad at that old man again. Abathor would feel her wrath.

Abathor gets to land slaps and frowns. Hana doesn’t want to gie up but still hits him in the stomach. He winces and grits his teeth. He wants to lash back out but knows better. He can excuse this because she runs away and threatens to fight him again later.

“I look forward to it.”

At any rate, he's supposed to be meeting a friend here. Somewhere. They'd agreed to meet on this stretch of road, get something to eat, and discuss a few things, but she's yet to have seen the older girl. The blonde's watching, though. You can be certain of that. Bespectacled, clumsy, and with that signature hat and those two cats that have an obvious penchant for trouble, his friend is very hard to miss.

Beautiful day just like he wanted but now he looks a mess because of singed clothes. He's not too concerned with the weather, but he still thought to wear layers again: that red sweater-jacket that he's grown attached too worn over a long-sleeved, blue thing, pants, and some boots of his own.

“There's the food stand the festival people set up. Maybe I'll get something while I wait for her. Tea has never been her favorite beverage, but in her illness, she's practically craving its warmth and soothing effects.”

Abathor thinks of Hina and Hana. Two similar names. They were the only young ladies he had met and both beautiful. He knows his chances with them are low but he is a geezer who can try even if he knows it is not going to work out. If he works hard enough he can earn the pervy sage title.

Abathor’s friend comes along and they have a nice time at the festival. He wished Hana stayed so she can enjoy it too but that is not his problem and she needed to fix her attitude anyhow. He would be ready for another fight and to teach her not to use that fire jutsu against him.
