Fog // ROOT Original

No stranger to prowling the shadowed forests of Hi no Kuni's borders, the young Uchiha launched himself across branches just beneath the canopy, finding purchase before again he was off toward the nation's eastern shore. Above the cloaked figure, an ocean of dim, autumn colors stained black blue by the night's moonless sky soared by, undisturbed by the Uchiha's passage as the flowing shroud wrapped around Kirei blended seamlessly with the darkness, leaving a white and red cat's facade ominously swimming through the ebon road to dawn. As the trees thinned somewhat, Kirei could hear the slap of water against rock as the waves crashed tiresomely against the shoreline, a soft intonation beckoning the arrival of distant seas from the direction of a country he knew better than most of his companions, one he wished to never see again. Sharingan narrowed, the Uchiha gave pursuit to nothingness, alone, and in the dark.

The night's task left no time for inward reflection, demanding Kirei's focus as an agent of the Hidden Leaf, scrolls secured in the pouches beneath his cloak bore secret missives longing to be fulfilled, and the operative's head swam with their gravity. For months, the Uchiha had worked alone in Konoha, slithering between deceit and reality spying on the village he swore to tirelessly protect, intelligence building as he watched the Leaf's watchers for any sign of decay or allegiance to the Mist. Most troubling was the ANBU captain Nayoko, whom he had fought beside in Hansha's depths on that grim evening where his Sharingan had reached the tipping point, never to return to darkness. The captain in question, it was plain to see, had connections to the Hidden Mist that far surpassed any other high ranking officials in Konohagakure, and Kirei had reported this in kind, though through his efforts he could also plainly see the man's resolve to serve the Leaf as well. Among the ANBU, rumors of the Uchiha also surfaced, the newest recruit for the Hidden Leaf's black ops had garnered a loathsome reputation as a trickster, the permeance of his Sharingan alluding to secret plans that made him unsuitable for teamwork. Kirei was grateful then that on this night he would be leading companions who worked in the same sordid depths as he and longed to find something among them that he could call his team.

Thinning trees gave way to the sight of thick, black waters stretching out toward the horizon, endless inky depths lit by sparse ships-become-stars in the expanse that mimicked the infinite skies above. Such vessels, from this distance, looked like drifting candles against a velvet curtain that longed to be drawn away, heaving with the weight of wind and currents like the heavy hands of Gods and spirits kneading it into the shape of an unfathomable painting which split Fire from Water. The clearings provided by Fire Country's border would serve as the meeting place for tonight's tasks, and by the time Kirei arrived, he found himself alone in the dark and stillness, peering from his perch upon a tree overlooking grass that swayed in tune with the thrum of a light breeze. ROOT did not impart upon even its captain the true knowledge of who he would meet here, but he knew their role; tasked with rendezvousing with a tracker who would assist him, the partner assigned to him was one of the others recruited by the mysterious man in black who had followed the Uchiha all the way to Kirigakure to enlist him. Kirei thought back to that night atop a dilapidated building, where he had locked eyes with the masked figure and been offered the path into life in service to Konoha, one that he had been all too eager to traverse. The second, a man he had recruited himself, taken with him to test his mettle upon a chance meeting several nights ago where together they had overcome all that lay before them. Kennosuke would have been instructed to hide his identity, wear his darkest clothes, and prepare for anything before departing to this lonesome clearing at the edge of the infinite void.

None save for the young captain knew why they were gathered here tonight, and the mission they would undertake. Beneath a barren sky devoid of light and sound, late enough that the songs of native birds faded into silence, Kirei became one with the shadows, sinking away between the folds of leaves and bark to leave himself obscured and await his the arrival of his companions. Beneath the agent's calm facade lingered a nervousness, questioning what type of individual this tracker would be, and wondering to himself whether the other he had set his eyes on recruiting would be up to the task, and understand that in the world of subterfuge and intelligence, killing was often more hindrance than a help.

The cool air felt good as it rushed by. Tonight would prove interesting. Probably dangerous but definitely interesting. It had been the only thing that actually excited him for some time. Some kind shadow mission with an Anbu operative that he happened to run into a few nights prior and had the glorious opportunity to fight alongside with. After they had overcame their opposition, the Anbu operative invited Kennosuke along tonight as a way to test his mettle. Was this some sort of test to become an Anbu? Kennosuke doubted it as he was not at that level of skill or power. Would working an Operation with an Anbu look good on him? Only if he survived.

He had taken steps to conceal his identity. His hair was held in tight braids and was under the deep hood of his half cloak. He wore a black, long sleeved skin tight shirt and had both hands had black wraps on them, while he wore his normal black pants and sandles. Rekka had been covered with an intricately woven cord and was sheathed horizontally across the back of his waist.

He moved steadily through the trees, careful not to make too much noise but he also was in no big rush. He had plenty of time to reach the rendezvous. He jumped, flipped and swung on branches, most of it unnecessary but he was enjoying the rather leisure while he could. For all he knew he was walking into certain death, so why not have some fun before hand?

As the trees began to thin, he slowed himself a bit and after pinpointing the location of the rendezvous that the Anbu operative he knew only as Songbird told him of, he moves toward that  direction. Taking one last leap, he grasps a branch and swings himself under it and up, before landing in a low crouch on top of the branch. While he couldn't exactly see Songbird, he knew he was atleast close enough to the right spot.

"Well, I'm here." His words were little more than a whisper but he knew the Anbu was near enough to hear. "Since we require a certain amount of secrecy, call me Ifirt." He then falls silent as his half cloak settles around him, covering most of his body since he was couched down. His heart was pounding. Excitement more than anything, as he had little fear of death. If things went well, perhaps this new Anbu contact could help him find the traitor that killed his father and friend. Only time would tell.

The night was cold with the clear unlit sky above him, the moon's absence leaving the area quite dark for him to traverse. He kept to the tree tops, moving slowly throughout the forest headed towards the rendezvous point where he would meet the his fellow ROOT operatives for the mission. He had been given little detail as to what they would be actually doing, but it didn't matter much to him. A mission was a mission and he needed to complete it, regardless of what it happened to be. The warmth of his breath would reflect from the mask upon his face, a gift given to him by the man in black who had recruited him into the organization. He wore his dark navy baggy clothing for blending into the night sky as pure black would be quite easy to pick out against the natural colors of the forest at night. He kept his bow strapped to his back, ready for battle if he should need it but he hoped he would not this night.

As he continued down towards his destination, he sent forth several of his insects to scout the area in front of him and report back their findings so he would be prepared for whatever he may encounter ahead. The sound of the shoreline with the water crashing the rocks was not too distant from him at this point indicating he would soon reach where his comrades were supposed to meet with him. As forest began to thin, his view of the vast darkness of water became more and more clear. Within a few moments he would come upon the clearing which was to be the meeting point for the night's mission where a single shinobi stood clad in all black with a sword hilted horizontally at the waist, hiding most of their face behind a cloaked hood. "There should be two here, where is the other..." he pondered to himself as he sat perched in the tree just overlooking the clearing. His insects had returned to him, relaying their findings of the layout of the area with any important details which may come in handy should things take a turn for the worse and battle be required. He summoned a few of his insects to intercept the shinobi waiting in the clearing, hoping to grab his attention and let him know that he was no longer alone in the darkness of the night. From the distance, he could make out what the shinobi was muttering, likely intended to allow comrades to know who he was.

"Well, I'm here," he would say without much attempt to be remain inconspicuous. "Since we require a certain amount of secrecy, call me Ifirt."

Given his stature, he figured the shinobi was likely a genin like himself. "Ifirt huh,...interesting". Given he needed to join the other shinobi down below, he hoped down from his perch and cushioned his fall with a quick roll to absorb the impact. He slunk from the shadows provided by the tree line into the clearing with the other shinobi. S'Yan sat perched upon his shoulder, watching his flanks for any surprises as he made his way into the clearing to speak with Ifirt.  "Ifirt huh? Interesting. You may refer to me simply as shichi," he would mutter from behind his mask which allowed him to mask his tone to hide his identity. "Where is our third?"

Peering from the shadows, the Sharingan took note of everything around it, falling leaves caught twitching tomoe, and the sway of thin branches in the ocean breeze drew the dojutsu toward them as the Uchiha compiled his thoughts. Long before they arrived in the clearing, Kirei's watchful gaze spotted the approaching shinobi, owing to the prowess of his Sharingan through which the pair could not slip, shining like beacons through the dark forest, illuminating themselves by virtue of their chakra. Kirei had not waited long, the first of his companions emerged into the clearing, the Uchiha recognizing his chakra immediately, it was the young man whom he sought to test, one who had fought alongside him several nights ago. Kirei smiled beneath his mask, glad that his instructions had not fallen on deaf ears and the young man had taken steps necessary to conceal his identity, even going so far as to assign himself a code name.

Barely a moment passed before the Sharingan locked onto the chakra of what Kirei could only assume was the ROOT operative he intended to meet, eyes studying him for longer than the first as the peculiar construction of his chakra burned into the dojutsu. Typical enough, but with a wealth of tiny creatures that ate away at the man's chakra signature, causing Kirei's eyes to narrow. There was only one clan in Konoha capable of such feats, with a swarm living beneath their skin, the famous Aburame brood of the Hidden Leaf, terrifying in their stamina and versatility, Kirei was glad to have one on his side. Of course, the other agent presented himself without delay to Ifrit, while Kirei remained in the shadows a moment longer. Once the Uchiha had a grasp of their locations and swept his Sharingan through the area surrounding them to ensure their privacy, he rose from the opposite side of the clearing, allowing the darkness to melt from his shoulders and down the length of his cloak. As Kirei stepped forth, they would see the remnants of his Shadow jutsu trail away into nothingness, while the Sharingan left paths of red light in their wake as Kirei's head bobbed forward. Speaking low, with his mask altering the tone of his voice just enough to shave the edge of youth from it and appear more commanding than his usual chipper, teenage chime, Kirei would impart the directive they were to follow.

"Good, you're both here. In a moment we will depart to Kasai, a fishing village on the shoreline. I have lost contact with a source of information there, a fisherman by the name of Kaika, this man provides me with information related to the coming and going of pirates, as well as shinobi who utilize this port to arrive from other nations, principally the Mist Village. If he has been captured by such rogue elements, or another nation, whether they are our allies or not, we must free him,"

"Kaika is a valuable asset, but this is not an assassination, nobody must know we were here, do you understand?"

The Uchiha would wait just long enough for affirmation before he was off again, leaping into the trees and departing toward the shore. Branches made no sound beneath the Jonin's deft footwork, and he spared a lone glance toward his back to ensure the pursuit of his comrades, altering his speed enough to stay at the edge of their view. After several minutes at this pace, the trio would penetrate the treeline and come to overlook a village nestled where the land met water, below a sharp cliff face which Kirei would not alter his momentum for, instead stepping from the side as chakra welled into the soles of his feet, allowing him to walk freely on the vertical surface. Bolts of black lightning, the triumvirate of secret operatives would head through the darkness toward the village, sparse lights illuminating houses dotted few and far between while their destination slumbered. Along with their approach, the Uchiha would produce a pair of Kunai, one with a red tag attached at its rear, and toss the latter high above the village. Sharingan doing its work, Kirei unleashed the second to intercept its trajectory, causing it to sharply change direction and careen toward the roof of a building close to the water, where without much more than a light crack, the flag was planted atop it. With his free hand, Kirei signaled to the two at his back, making circular motions after pointing to each of them in an indication for them to take a wide berth and scour the surroundings as they approached the marked building.

'I'm coming, Kaika.'

He was alone for mere moments before his first companion made an appearance. He was about the same height as Kennosuke, had a bow strapped across his back and wore a mask concealing both his face and his voice. Introducing himself as Shichi, Kennosuke nodded toward him but before he could speak their third companion would seemingly step out from the shadows themself. He wore the same thing as the first time they had met and his eyes glowed red as his Dojutsu was active.

Songbird lays out the mission they were to accomplish, his voice commanding. Seemed simple enough. Find and recover the asset, get in and out and be a ghost in the wind. As soon as Songbird had affirmation they understood the mission, he was off. Kennosuke would follow, attempting to move just as stealthily as their leader, but instead of following directly behind he would swing a bit to the right as to cover the right flank. Minutes passed in silence as the trio moved at a steady pace through the trees. The trees gave way to a steep cliff over looking the village and without hesitation Kennosuke followed Songbird along the vertical face, pooling chakra into his feet to keep him on the wall.

Songbird marked the target destination, a red flag attached to a kunai, then motioned for them to spread out. Kennosuke took the opportunity to use his Aibāningu and when he blinks his eyes change from their normal emerald green to a smouldering orange with a vertical black slit for pupils. He scans his surroundings, every thing had taken a blue hue and the hotter something was it became yellows and oranges. Looking over his companions, he made note of their heat signatures. Songbird's was normal, but Shichi's was odd, like thousands of dots flowing inside his body.  With their heat signatures memorized, he movesd toward the right, giving a wide berth and moving deliberately through the darkened village. The differences in his normal sight and his dōjutsu were stark. Dark and light became blues and oranges. The buildings heat signatures allowed him to see those buildings with lights on and those that had none. Even the light shining from Windows was illuminated. Allowing him to plan the fastest path through the village while sticking to the utmost cover and concealment.

Reaching a spot near the target that offered a direct line of sight so he could see any signal from Songbird or Shichi, but shrouded in darkness enough to give him an excellent hiding spot. He dropped low nestling into the shadows to wait. A calmness had fallen over him, his mind clear. There would be no hesitation when the signal came, of that he was sure.

After introducing himself to one of his apparent comrades, the answer to his question of the location of their third teammate would quickly be answered. His insects would alert him of movement on the opposite side of the clearing where a figure would seem to emerge from the shadows with two bright red orbs glaring through the darkness. N'Jobu turned his head slightly to have cognizance of the figure and see what their intentions happened to be. He ordered a few of his insects to tag both the figure and the shinobi referred to as Ifirt to keep tabs on them should they get separated during the mission. The masked figured moved closer to them and began to speak in a modulated tone, likely due to the mask worn similar to the one N'Jobu himself wore.

If he has been captured by such rogue elements or another nation, whether they are our allies or not, we must free him. Kaika is a valuable asset, but this is not an assassination, nobody must know we were here, do you understand?"

"Understood," he would respond. The mission seemed simple enough but he knew that missions such as this could easily take a turn for the worst so he should be prepared for anything. After a quick show of affirmation from Ifirt, the masked figure took to the treeline heading towards their apparent destination. He would follow suit, trying to keep pace with the lead but it was clear they were considerably faster than he happened to be. Even with his skills as a traceur and making the most efficient movements possible moving from branch to branch, he could still only just keep up with what appeared to be a slow pace for the red-eyed shinobi. After a few minutes of this pace, the trio would reach a cliff which overlooked a small village illuminated by scare lights throughout the darkness. The red-eyed shinobi would continue down onto the cliff face, prompting N'Jobu to follow behind after pooling chakra into his feet to allow him to walk along the vertical wall with Ifirt at his side. In an impressive display of shurikenjutsu, the target was marked below with a red flag-clad kunai.

With a hand signal, the red-eyed shinobi would signal the two to take flanking routes to close in upon the target destination. Given that Ifirt appeared to be taking the route to the right, N'Jobu instinctively headed down towards the left-hand side. He commanded a small swarm of his beetles to precede him and scout out the area before he moved further down, remaining hidden by the shadows along the cliff face. He would wait a few moments while his beetles would scout out the area for him which would be near invisible to most in the darkness of the night. After about a minute or so, his scouts would return to him and report their findings and the best route to take without being seen.

Luckily, the left-hand side of the village contained building with fantastic high vantage points for him to perch himself upon to provide ranged support for his other two comrades. He would make his way further down the wall until he lept onto the rooftops below, landing quietly and timing his touchdown with the crashing of the waves.  He would leap from rooftop to rooftop until he had a clear line of sight to the target and eyes upon his comrades. He was ready to move on signal and waited for the cue to continue onward. He whispered to S'Yan to keep a lookout on his flank to ensure that he wouldn't be caught by surprise. Preparing himself for a ranged strike should he need it, he grabbed his bow from his back in his left hand and draped it at his side while he waited. In the meantime, S'Yan would quickly snatch a straggler beetle and munch upon it as he would often do when out and about with N'Jobu. "Really S'Yan?" he muttered under his breath as he shook his head.

Crashing against the nearby shore, the sound of water collapsing on itself cut a wound in the silent night, making way for the remnants of ship lights to carry isolated beacons through the docks, casting shadows tall as the Fire Country forests across the port. Kirei snuck without a sound, muffled by the peculiar composition of his black cloak, which trailed the Uchiha with an inky streak of black cloth as reticent footfalls found purchase on the tops of buildings, propelling the young agent toward his destination. In the windless dark, the Uchiha's eyes left a trail of sparkling crimson, twitching rapidly at the onset of each slight stimuli, neighborhood cats skulking through back alleys, and the chakra of those who slept within buildings, each nuance drew Kirei's eyes invariably to rest upon them and commit them to memory as he made his way toward Kaika's residence.

Several weeks ago, Kirei had come across the fisherman in question when he had brought him back from the brink of death, stranded in the endless woodlands surrounding the shore, and guided him home. In return, the fisherman had become an asset for the Uchiha's reconnaissance throughout the Land of Fire, a man with numerous contacts, Kaika had, unbeknownst to Kirei, had been one of several men who oversaw the passage between Konoha and Kiri he had taken when first he left for the Mist. Fortunately, Kaika had proven to be a valuable source of information, connected with the comings and goings of those who left and entered Fire Country through the unassuming village which made its name in centuries past as a smugglers haven.

Dropping to the street below, the Uchiha swept his eyes through the empty building before his lossless stride propelled him skyward, allowing him to find purchase on the rooftop he had targeted. Scanning his surroundings, Kirei would gesture with his right arm for his companions to converge while he allowed the shadows to envelop him again, swallowing him whole into the crevasses between the roof and windows. Slinking down in the cracks of wood and glass, Kirei's body would make short work of the silent entry, penetrating the seaside shack as he reformed in the corner of a room in disarray. Strewn about the living room, remnants of a struggle, deep wounds cut with vicious blades through the walls and floor, books and shattered glass thrown carelessly throughout, and the faint remains of chakra lingering in a swirling miasma that the Uchiha's Sharingan could see. However the others chose to enter, they would be greeted by the same scene, and Kirei's frantic search through the rooms and wreckage before he spoke, voice quiet and severe against the backdrop of lapping waves and sea breeze.

"Kaika's been taken. The trail is faint, I can track it but barely. These chakra signatures lead East, out to sea,"

Through gritted teeth, the Uchiha spat his exasperated observations and allowed the pair a moment to draw their own conclusions, unable to discern the origin of the weapons used, or the specifics of old chakra, waiting long enough to see if either of his companions could utilize their own prowess to uncover additional details. If either were an expert in foreign weaponry, they would recognize the blades as tools of the Hidden Mist, though used without the precision of shinobi. As the chakra went, if either could detail the specific composition of old chakra signatures, they would discover, and be able to impart, that those who had been here were not shinobi, their chakra unrefined and thin enough to cling to life, but without the mastery of ninja training save for one, who left a strange combination of fire and water in his wake.

As Kirei left the residence, Sharingan flickering along the shoreline, he broke into a run toward the pier, feet swelling with enough chakra to keep him afloat as he lept and continued across the water. Looking back to hear any further observations from his companions, Kirei would also speak, voice urgent and commanding, youthful edge hidden by the mask he wore as his mind raced nervously. The young Uchiha was not a natural leader, but in recent times he found himself charged with directing those beneath him, and did his best to affirm his position as Jonin, even through the pangs of doubt that tugged behind his eyes. Coastal wind currents whipping around the trio carried the Uchiha's voice to his companions as his body navigated the passages of water and waves, sliding and hopping across the shifting terrain with Spiritual Walking aiding every step.

"There is a grouping of islands a few miles off the shore, Kaika kept me informed of pirates who used these islands as a meeting place between the Land of Fire and Water, if I had to guess, he got found out, and they came for him."

Against the navy blue horizon, dotted with countless stars, silhouettes of large shapes, like the backs of monsters heaving from beneath the sea rose high and split the skyline. From beneath his cloak, the Uchiha produced a blade, sound of metal and wood grinding at the sword's withdrawal, and glistening with the red trail of his Sharingan. Behind his anxious thoughts, Kirei prepared himself for the worst.

Kennosuke kept a watchful eye on the area surrounding the house that would be their ultimate destination. While his Aibānigu would only allow him to see heat signatures up to 30 meters away, It was good enough to give warning to his comrades in case something happened. He was nestled into the shadows about 15 meters away from their destination, giving him some insight to the other side of the building too. A soft purr draws his attention away for just a moment, to a stray cat that had found him. It purred and rubbed itself against his knee, wanting attention. He reaches down, rubbing the cat behind the ears as he returns to the task at hand, just in time to watch Songbird moving in on the house.

Must be a Uchiha. A pretty powerful one given those Sharingan eyes of his. Kennosuke thinks to himself as Songbird moves atop the house and raises his right hand to give the signal to converge on him. With a pat of the cat’s head, Kennosuke darts across the intervening space toward the house. He moved quick and low, being sure to stay out of any light there was between him and the house.Songbird seemed to flatten and flow inside the house, an interesting technique but one that Kennosuke didn’t know. He would have to find a more conventional entry point. One of the few windows had been broken, so he shifts his directional of travel toward there. After pausing for a moment to listen, he peers over the window seal, using his Aibānigu to search for heat signatures. Finding only Songbird’s he quietly hoists himself into the window and eases himself down on the floor, careful of the glass. The house had been tossed and there were obvious signs of a struggle. If Kaika had been taken he had put up a fight.

Walking through the house as Songbird searched for Kaika, Kennosuke began looking for clues to what had happened. The place was a mess, glass and papers everywhere. Whoever did this, didn’t mind to be loud, all of this noise should of drawn someone’s attention but the coastal town was still asleep as if they heard nothing. He pauses and runs his fingers down a particularly gnarly looking gash in the wall. This wasn’t a scene that a Shinobi would of left it was too messy. Most likely the work of low level thug’s or pirates and given he stood in a sea side shack, Kennosuke guessed pirates. Add that to the fact that there were alot of noise made tonight and not even one neighbor showed signs of concern, he was sure of it. Pirates must of taken Kaika and the town itself was frightened enough to act like one of their own wasn’t just taken.

“It was likely the work of Pirates. This attack looks untrained and loud, making me believe the town knew who was making the noise and turned the other cheek out of fear. That with our proximity to the sea, my best guess is pirates.” He would say quietly as he returned to Songbird just in time to hear him say the trail was faint, but led out to sea. This practically confirmed his suspicion of Pirates and he smirks under his cloth mask. He may not be the most skilled Shinobi but, he fancied himself a tracker and knew enough of the various tracks that people unknowingly leave to come to an educated guess about who left them. After speaking, Songbird leaves the residence and Kennosuke followed after. The Anbu operative scanned the coast line for a moment and then took off running toward the pier. Kennosuke waited just long enough to make sure Shichi was coming before following after Songbird. Following their leaders example, Kennosuke coated his feet with Chakra and leapt out into the sea after Songbird.

Running across the open water, the Uchiha speaks again, explaining the islands that would be their destination. With the monstrous silhouettes before them, Kennosuke drew his own blade, wielding it with the blade running across his forearm. Running across the water into the unknown was a thrill that Kennosuke had never felt before and he couldn't help the grin that spread across his face as they ran.

N'Jobu would wait and watch for a signal to proceed as he and S'yan continued to survey the area. In the meantime, he would send out a small swarm of beetles to survey the entire area and report back to him the layout and locations of any people who may pose a threat to their mission. After about a minute or so, most of his beetles would return and provide him with excellent tactical information to proceed within the mission. Soon, he would get a signal from the sharingan clad shinobi to converge on his positive with a wave of his arm as he slunk himself into the shadows into a particular building he was surveying. N'Jobu would watch as the other shinobi would close in on the central position before moving himself, keeping to the shadows and jumping down to ground level to get the best entrance point. As he approached, he looked in the window which was cracked open allowing him to gently lift it and slip into the room silently as he met with the other two. The scene was one of a struggle and chaos, with everything strewn about across the floor including torn books, shattered glass, flipped tables, and slash marks along the walls. He would carefully inspect the area looking for any clues that could help to uncover secrets of the situation at hand and help to find the missing target. He released a few of his specialized insects capable of detecting scents with their olfactory organs which are considerably stronger than any canine would be able to.

From his insight, the scene was sloppy. Likely not the work of a trained shinobi or assassin. Likely the culprits were bandits or common thieves to leave such a mess which could easily be likely heard or seen. One of his compatriots on the mission inferred that the attack was likely perpetrated by pirates given the distance from the house to the sea and was nearly confirmed when the shinobi of the copy wheel noted he could sense a faint trail towards the see. He believed this account as his insects had picked up a scent leading in that direction as well. The lead shinobi would exit and make his way towards the pier leading to the sea, with both N'Jobu and the other shinobi following close behind as they made their way unnoticed in the darkness along the shoreline before leaping out onto the water.

"My insects have the scent of several targets leading in this direction. Once we get closer, I should be able to find them without them noticing us," he would speak with distortion in his voice from his mask. He would listen if the other shinobi at his side would have any input before the lead began to speak once more. "There is a grouping of islands a few miles off the shore, Kaika kept me informed of pirates who used these islands as a meeting place between the Land of Fire and Water, if I had to guess, he got found out, and they came for him." He watched as the other two pulled out their swords in preparation for a fight while he held his bow in his left hand ready to strike when called upon.
