Two years. They were long ones, but she knew even as she would lead the children upstairs to bed that it wasn’t long enough - no time was. The old saying that ‘time heals all’ was a farce, it was like putting a band-aid on a war wound. It didn’t heal anything. Yes, you grew accustomed to it. You learned to live with the pain and the ache. You learned to live with the permanent absence in your life. But it didn’t stop hurting, it never ‘healed’. Reaching the top of the stairs she stopped as she watched the twins pause, their gazes - red still from crying earlier - shifting to her own. “Bedtime story?”, Amaya inquired, watching as both of their little faces turned into identical smiles before they both nodded. Bedtime stories it was then. “If you two hurry in getting changed for bed I might even read you two of them.”, Amaya added for the incentive, smiling softly as the two exhausted children seemed to light up with all the energy in the world as they raced off to get ready for bed. “Brush your teeth, too!”, she called out after them before wandering into their bedroom and over to the fairly large bookshelf that housed some of their favorites. As she waited for the children to get ready for bed, listening to their giggling and playfulness as they did so, her gaze shifted across the titles of the books looking for one in particular: a favorite among both of them, a book she had read countless times and had already memorized, but one she tended to grab anyway in case they still wanted to look at the pictures.

With a giggle, both children raced back into the room, in their pajamas, Zaylee pausing by her bed as her brother dived into his. “Can I sleep in Mo’s bed tonight?”, Zaylee inquired, to which Amaya nodded and smiled, watching as the young girl grabbed her pillow and her teddy bear, her brother scooting over to make room for her. Amaya made her way over, picking up a wooden chair and bringing it over to the bed so that she had something to sit on. She paused, tucking both of the children in after covering them up with the blanket, before flipping open the book and shifting so that both of them could see it as she read. She took her time with the story, her voice soft and gentle, the effect being that the children were lulled to sleep before she was even halfway through, and yet she didn’t stop. As usual, she kept reading until the book was finished.

Once done Amaya stood up, sliding the book back into its place on the bookshelf before adjusting the blanket around the children once more and giving them both a soft kiss on their foreheads. She paused to stare at them for a moment, her mind shifting to years past and her own hopes for the future that had been stolen from her before she pushed the thoughts out of her mind and dimmed the table lamp nearby - allowing its soft glow to fill the room to keep the monsters at bay that Zaylee had more recently become afraid of: her explanation being that mean things lurked in the darkness. Walking softly to the doorway she grabbed the doorknob and paused to glance back at the sleeping angels before closing the door softly and quietly.

Once in the hallway and out of view of the children her smile disappeared, her right hand shifting upwards to rub at her chest where her heart was: the action not due to any medical issue, but rather the pain that always lingered there from her own losses. Gods she wanted a stiff drink, but instead she dropped her hand and went to go find Daremo: the children were not the only ones hurting this evening, and no matter how good of a front was put on Amaya knew this pain personally and she knew it was a vicious and dangerous beast not easily thwarted. In fact, Daremo’s pain was the reason she had quit drinking to dull her own: though the first few days of detoxing the alcohol so suddenly and completely out of her body had been a royal bitch. She knew the places her own drinking and self-destruction had taken her, and she refused to allow him to go down the same path. The twins needed him, /she/ needed him. Amaya couldn’t just sit back and let him self-destruct. Heading back downstairs she made a beeline straight for the kitchen, in the process mentally locking down her own sadness and despair, her own pain, her own demons and past memories. She could deal with her own issues another day, but today had to be hard on Daremo, so she wanted, and needed to be there for him: to be the strength if his own was failing.

Walking into the kitchen she immediately took up her usual spot leaning up against the countertop, arms folded across her chest. “The twins are asleep, I read them their favorite story.”, the ‘again’ went unsaid. Amaya would read the book for them as many times as they requested it, hell she would do anything for them as she had proven quite often in the past two years. Correction, she’d do anything for Daremo /and/ the twins, as she had proven in the past two years on more than one occasion. As she waited for Daremo to say something, to react to her words in some kind of way, she refrained from asking the obvious ‘are you alright’ that anyone else would. He wasn’t alright, she knew it, and she would believe nothing else no matter how good of a front he tried putting on. So, instead of pestering him she would simply do as she always had: be there when he needed her, without being overbearing about it.

S-rank
Standing within the hallway, connecting the front door to the living room, Daremo watched as Amaya took the twins to bed. The two having already been given their goodnight kisses and hugs, a ritual amongst them that was even more important nowadays before they were carried off. As soon as they disappeared upstairs, in the secure arms of Amaya, the smile on Daremo’s face vanished. The silver-haired male walking into the living room, pausing at a picture sitting on the counter. Eyes that were once full of life gave away to sadness and sorrow as he reached out and picked up the picture. “We miss you.”, The words spoken were soft and heartfelt as he just gazed at the woman in the picture, holding Zaylee, while he heard Mamoru, Kaia-mai.

The mere thought of her nearly made tears fall from his eyes, but, none would fall, he shreds enough in the first year of her death. “I miss you.”, He whispered, thinking back to all the wonderful times him and his wife shared. The fun adventures they had, wandering across the Elemental Nations. The intimate moments they shared either in the privacy of their home or in some hotel room while they were venturing about. The precious life that was created from their private moments, and how thrill both of them were to become parents. Those thoughts and more replayed in his mind, and even though he tried not to cry, a tear did slid down his face.

Another one. The world had seen to it that he would lose another precious person. It was as if the world was trying to tell him that love was out of his future. That, he would never be able to truly find love because it would be taken away from him sooner or later. No, that was incorrect, while he could blame her death on the cruelty of faith, it would be unfound. Pestilence, the being who he had killed, managed to givemanm one last parting gift by afflicting Kaia-mai with a stronger variant of the disease she once had. The end result being her dying, not after he and Amaya did their best to find a cure, but came up short.

Sorrow and sadness soon turned into anger and rage, though, the laughter coming upstairs were enough to quell such emotions. Clearing his mind, Daremo knew there was no reason to get angry at something that was already dead. It would not solve anything in the long run. Yet still, looking down at the picture clutched in his hands, he brought it up to his face, and kissed the image of Kaia-mai, “I love you.”, He whispered, looking at the picture one more time before setting it down and walking into the kitchen. He needed a drink.

Grabbing a tall glass, Daremo opened the refrigerator, pulling out a full carton of orange juice and setting it on the counter. A bottle of vodka would join the glass and orange. Filling the glass with ice cubes, pouring orange juice followed by vodka over them, he took a sip of the drink. He welcoming the light burning sensation of the stronger than normal alcohol. “Would you hate me?”, The words were softly spoken as he leaned against the counter with a drink in hand, “Would you hate me for taken up drinking as a means to cope?” How he wished Kaia-mai would answer. That this whole thing was just a nightmare, and that Kaia-mai would walk into the kitchen. Her beauty radiating from every inch of her body as she moved to engulf him into a hug, and telling him the words he desperately wished to hear. Yet, as he took another drink, the glass being ⅓ gone already, eyes looking at the woman who was leaning against the counter, he knew that his wants were simply that. . . wants.

“Thank you. ” He spoke, watching as the image of Kaia-mai dissolved into that of Amaya. The Uchiha had been there for him the moment Kaia-mai’s sickness was known. The two have gotten closer to, not only working on a cure for Kaia-mai, but because of her death. Almost immediately, not even hours after her death, Amaya started helping him. She filling the void in the destroyed family’s hearts. Well, she filling the void of the twin’s hearts. She acted just like a mother would. She took care of them when he was away. Made sure that they had everything, and dotted over them as if they were her own children. He did not ask her too, but, she did it anyway, and he was thankful for it.

As for him, well, though there were numerous times where he missed the intimacy shared with Kaia-mai, and the thought of during that with Amaya was there, he did not. He wouldn’t do that to her. She stepped in to fill the mother role for the twins. He doubted she would want to fill that role as well . . . at least that is what he likes to tell himself.  He, himself, did not know, and apart of him was afraid to go down the path again only to end up with another dying because of him. “They were always fond of that book. It was one of the first Kaia-mai read to them.”, He nearly choked upon saying his wife’s name. Two years was not enough time for his wounds to heal. . . not enough time at all.

Gazing upon the Uchiha, Daremo sighed, moving towards the sink to dump out the over half-empty glass, “I know I shouldn’t.”, He whispered, watching as the alcoholic beverage disappear down the sink. Rinsing out the glass, he filled it with ice, and set it on the counter. His eyes lingered on the vodka bottle, debating on to fix him another or not. As he reached towards the bottle, his hand paused, “Do you think she would hate me for what I have become?”, He asked, fingers brushing against the top of the bottle, but not grabbing it for now.

As she leaned against the counter, her red colored gaze resting upon Daremo, she couldn’t help but to feel bad. For all of the power she had, all of the techniques she knew, she had yet to learn how to remove someone’s mental pain. To just pluck all of that sadness and despair out of him and truly heal him. Then again, even if she could it probably wouldn’t be a fix all to everything. All she could do was try and help, to try and be there for them all. There were a gentleness and kindness in her red gaze that was reserved for so few lately, and yet it shined there for him and for his twins. It mixed with concern as she listened to him speak, nearly choking upon saying Kaia’s name. Even though it had been two years it was still so hard, and while Amaya had filled the role of mother to the children as much as she could without stepping over sacred boundaries she would never cross, she still knew that the pain was there. It lingered. She nodded to his words, offering up a gentle and caring smile.

Without a single ounce of judgment in her gaze, she watched as Daremo moved over to the sink and poured his half-empty glass out, his whispered words reaching her sensitive ears. She spoke not a word as she watched him rinse out his glass and then fill it with ice before setting it on the counter. She followed his gaze to the bottle and then back to him, waiting to see if he would reach for it, grasp it, and pour himself another. How many times had she been here herself? How many times had she used the bottle to cope with the sheer agony she felt inside? The pain that her tough exterior and outright bitchy fortitude hid? She watched as he paused as he was about to reach for it only to ask her a question, his hand lingering as if he were thinking about grabbing the bottle or not. “No, she wouldn’t hate you - she never could.”, Amaya answered honestly, having gotten to know Kaia~Mai very well during the time they had spent together, well enough that she knew her words were honest and true: Amaya didn’t bullshit, she didn’t sugar coat, but she believed this with all of her heart. “She would understand, she always understood everything.”, again, more words of truth left her lips.

Even as Amaya spoke she felt a war battling within her between two different paths: continuing to give Daremo his space - which, while all good and all didn’t seem to be /quite/ enough to help him heal - or to close that gap and give him what she wished someone would have given her when she had lost Ashi and her children and had been drowning in her own despair… She didn’t know when she made her mind up, how long it had taken, if the decision had been made right then and there or if her mind had subconsciously made it quite a while ago. All she knew was that at one moment she was leaning against the counter as she always did and the next she was crossing the distance between herself and Daremo with her natural predatory grace. In a single movement she grabbed the bottle either out of his hand or before his fingertips could claim it, smashing it in the sink which contained the glass and vodka well as the latter drained down the sink, while at the same time her arms wrapped around him, claiming in a hug that spoke so much of the things she had wanted to say, had wanted to do. Yet even still she felt a tremble within herself of pure fear: the surgeon whose hands were so steady and so skilled, the woman who had murdered more people than she could remember, who could take a life without hesitation or fear and was willing to face off against any obstacle, felt fear at that moment. Fear of being rejected, of Daremo getting pissed off and demanding she leave, of never being able to see the children who had so quickly and easily wrapped themselves around her heart. Yet, she had to /try/, she had to try and fix Daremo. The booze wasn’t working, it wouldn’t work, she knew that. It would lead only to more pain, to more self-destruction, to more agony. She didn’t want that for him, for any of them. She understood the pain and agony, and it showed in the hug. She would do whatever she could to help them, to help all of them.

It was at that moment that she realized why, she realized why she stuck around - more than just knowing the beast they were all facing, it was because she loved him. Even all these years later the love she had for him was still there from the brief moment the two had been together. She had fallen hard for him, but their lives had taken them in two separate directions, and yet that love was still there. It had never disappeared, it had never lessened. She had simply learned to live with the idea that this was how things were: she had been over the moon happy that he had found Kaia, that they had two healthy children. She had never begrudged that, she had simply accepted it and moved on: had been as close as she could be without interfering in their lives. Even when Kaia had died Amaya hadn’t jumped to try and fill that role. She had tried to give him space, to be the friend he needed, someone he could confide in, who would help him. Yet, at that moment she wanted him to know that she still loved him, that that hadn’t changed.

And then the thought crossed her mind that if she was going to risk him throwing her out - of the house, his life, whatever - she might as well leave a lasting impression. So, before she could stop herself, before she could second guess what she was about to do, she reached up with the same trembling arms and hands, grabbed his face gently and kissed him: a loving gesture filled with so much, the love she still had for him even all these years later, her understanding, her compassion, and so much more. ‘If he’s going to throw me out at least I get to leave with a parting gift… ‘, Amaya found herself thinking: anger was an easier emotion to focus on and deal with than pain, and if her kiss was going to piss him off then at least he’d be angry over that instead of sad over Kaia.

Amaya words were one that he could readily agree upon. When it came to Kaia-mai she understood everything. Nothing could escape the beautiful woman’s understanding of nature. It was one of many of her stellar qualities that he loved. He remembered the time of his rebirth. The moment when his time as an animal had expired, and he was allowed to return back to human. Though memories were lost during the time, there was still some fear in him about her not understanding what had happened. Why he could not return back to her until the moment he did. The talk they had, within a hotel in Sunagakure no Sato, was one he would never forget. After telling her everything, he waited to see what she had to say while hoping she understood it all. Kaia-mai, she understood everything and accepted the new challenges that came with his rebirth. It was just one of many instances were she understood everything.

Barely noticeable, a smile found its way onto his face as he thought about the woman who he had lost two years ago, “Indeed she did. She understood everything.”, He whispered. His eyes looking towards the vodka bottle that was mere centimeters from his fingers. Knowing she would understand why he had picked up this particular vice, he wonders was there any harm in taking another drink. He had tossed the other way because it had grown weak. The kick he was looking for was no longer there. Granted, it could have to be because of the ice. Nevertheless, he wanted to feel the burn down his throat once again. It wouldn’t hurt, right? Just one more drink. . maybe without the ice this time.

Just as his fingers were going to curl around the top of the bottom, it would be denied. The bottle being grabbed by Amaya, she having transversed the distance during his musing. For a few seconds, he clutched nothing but air, as if the thought of her taking the bottle hadn’t completely registered with him. Letting his hand fall down to the side, reptilian eyes watched as the woman smashed the bottle in the sink. Thankfully, the twins were heavy sleepers, less the noise of shattering glass would have woken them up. As the contents were poured down the sink, Daremo did not say anything, just stared. A sigh escaped his lips, “I - - -”

For a split second, he froze when Amaya wrapped her arms around him. His mind had taken a second to process that the Uchiha was hugging him. “What. . .”, He whispered, feeling the woman’s hands trembling. Why was were they trembling? Why was she afraid? For now, he could not come up with an answer, instead, his own arms wrapped around Amaya’s body. He did not know when, but, his mind came to a conclusion on why the woman was shaking; she was afraid.

While he did not know much about Amaya’s past. He had been in a similar situation, except, he watched a sister destroy herself through drinking, and later on, other drug usages after a death. He watched her waste away to nothing. He tried to help her at the time, but, nothing work, and it needed with her dying. Was Amaya afraid that he was going to follow that same path? That his vice would lead him to ruin? “I’m sorry. . .”, He whispered. There was no need to elaborate on the apology, for it would take hours to explain. But, he knew that Amaya, who were with him throughout the troubling years, would understand why he was apologizing.

The hug ended too soon for him. The contact of another woman, especially someone who he always had an attraction too, was already been missed. Yellow eyes stared into red ones, watching as trembling hands cupped his face. Was she? Was she really going to do this? His heart skipped a beat. The urge to pull away from her, to stop her from making a mistake, was there. Yet, a stronger desire was also present. The need for something more. That is why he did not pull away when her lips connected with his.

Electricity course through his body, not from any jutsu, but from his senses going haywire at the amount of love felt in the tender gesture. Love, how the word became associated with such misery for the man, yet, not at this moment. Before he could respond to the kiss, it was needed. “No. . .”, He whispered as he brought her close to his body. His lips captured her in a gentle, loved filled kiss. “Forgive me, love, I need this.” He thought, morphing the kissing into a passionate one as his tongue looked for entrance into Amaya’s mouth to explore every inch of it.

Did she know what she had done? For over a year, he had fault back the urges to kiss her. To get the comfort that he so readily desire. Did she know how hard it was not to advance on her? To ask her would she lay with him? Sure, they had a thing in the past, but it went nowhere after he found love with Kaia-mai. The love being unexpected, but welcoming, and he enjoyed everything it entails. So, what about Amaya? Did he ever think about the woman after their fling? Yes, there were times where he thought about the woman. Hell, there were moments, when he and Kaia were in the throes of lovemaking that he thought about the woman in less than pure fashion. When they used to joke about doing a threesome, or bringing another into their relationship, Amaya was always the only choice. She was the only one.

Deepening the kiss, Daremo hands hesitantly moved to Amaya’s bottom and grabbed it. The restraints that had been put into place, keeping his hormones and desires locked away, were slowly being undone. Breaking the kiss, he stared into her eyes, “You know what you did.” He spoke, massaging her bottom, “And you know where it will lead, right? Are you sure?” No badly how he wanted her. How he wanted to ease the achiness in the front of his tented pants, he needed to know.

She had expected any reaction but that one. How many different ways had she played this scenario over in her head? How many of them had ended badly? With her causing Daremo to snap, to be disgusted by her actions. She couldn’t count them. Yet this, this reaction here as he deepened the kiss and pulled her against him while his hands laid claim to her ass? She hadn’t expected it, but she welcomed it. In response her own arms shifted, her hands leaving his face, shifting beneath his own to wrap around him once more, fingertips gliding over his back gently an comfortingly. Even as her lips parted, making way for his tongue, she found herself wondering just how long had he been waiting to do just that? Had she not been the only one with such thoughts, ignoring the feelings and urges for one reason or another? How many times throughout the days that they had spent together even before Kaia passed on had the urge to just come up to him and kiss him played across her mind?

As he broke the kiss, his hands massaging her bottom, she met his gaze while listening to his words. Did she know where this would lead? Yes, and she wanted it to go there with her entire mind, being, and soul. But - there was always a but wasn’t there - she needed to explain, she needed to show him just why she understood. She had walked with him through his sadness for a very long time, and now perhaps it was finally time that she reveals her own. If they were going to do this again then she wanted him to know all of her, not just the good, and wicked, and strong parts of her, but the dark and brittle ones too. “I know where this will lead, and I want it to go there, but I think I need to show you something first.”, she spoke softly, her tone somber and yet there was a yearning there for him that couldn’t be denied. She wanted him: but this needed to be done first.

Then from the doorway, before she could really go on to explain more she heard the clearing of a throat and glanced over to see Daremo’s grandmother standing there. If there had been any doubt in how his family had thought about the Uchiha it was gone at that moment, the look on the woman’s face screamed what she didn’t put into words: fucking finally, I thought it would never happen. There was no anger, no harshness, there was just a happy kind of acceptance. “It’s about time you two heal each other - and yes, I mean you too Miss Uchiha - I know of your darkness well. Maybe it’s time you show my grandson it, I think it’ll help you both to have a better understanding and grasp of things. Go on, I’ll watch the children.”, the elderly woman spoke before wandering away, giving Amaya no chance at all to respond. She had no idea how the woman knew of her darkness, or she knew the things Amaya had faced, and yet she accepted it just for how it was.

Amaya pulled away very gently, but kept her hand in Daremo’s, staring at their hands as she interlocked her fingers with his own. “Before we take this further I need you to see all of me - not just the parts I show everyone else. Will you come with me on a little trip?” Should he be willing and ready, she would lead him from the house, leading him through the village. She cared little for the pace they kept, she was neither looking forward to or dreading what she would be revealing to him. But, alas, their location was eventually reached: a beautiful clearing filled with lightning bugs and lit up by the crescent moon overhead, nearby which a river flowed that was so crystal clear the rock and dirt of the bed of it could be seen along with the beautiful koi fish that swam around. The only thing out of place about the entire clearing were three white marble stones, the one in the center being the largest, and the two on the side being equal in size. The one in the center bore the engraved name of Inuzuka Ashi with the words “Beloved wife, mother, and friend” beneath it, listing a date that had the woman passing at only nineteen years old. On the stone to the left side of the center one bore the name Inuzuka-Uchiha, Aisling underneath of which were written “Beloved daughter, may the light forever shine on your smiling face” before dates were given that had the child being roughly six months old. Finally, on the stone to the right of the center was yet another name, Inuzuka-Uchiha, Mitsukai “Beloved daughter, may the moon forever steal your breath away” before dates were given that the child being only one day old.

It was to these stones that Amaya moved, her gaze fixed on them as if they entranced her and yet a deep sorrow filled her gaze. She paused some six feet away. “When I was fourteen years old I fell in love with someone, a woman named Ashi - Kenta’s cousin. I was very sick when I was younger as I’m sure you knew, we married young because Ashi wanted me to experience all the wonders of life even if it meant she would suffer for it in the end when I passed. Through the wonders of medical ninjutsu I ended up pregnant but my sickness, which at that point had been dormant, came back with a vengeance. I ended up miscarrying Mitsukai. It broke us for several years, but we somehow managed to survive. I fought tooth and nail to cure myself and eventually ended up doing so. Shortly after I became pregnant once more and gave birth to Aisling. She was everything we could hope for. Happy, healthy, and strong. When she was six months old I was sent off on a mission and Ashi decided she would go visit family in Kusagakure and she took Aisling with her. Two days after they got there is when the village was plagued with Amaterasu and burned to the ground, Ashi and my daughter didn’t make it out. I came home to the news.”, Amaya paused, unaware of why her face was suddenly cold until she reached up to find tears flowing down her cheeks.

“I was so disgusted with the Uchiha who did it that I broke myself away from the clan. Especially with the new power that I had gained from Ashi’s death, I was disgusted. I tried to cut my own eyes out - Kenta and my brother had to restrain me and sedate me. I didn’t want to be an Uchiha, I didn’t want that power if it meant the loss of my wife and child. I began drinking after that, shutting myself away from everyone. I only came to pack gatherings because I knew that if I didn’t Kenta or one of the other Inuzuka would just track me down and drag me there anyway. I was… alive, but not living. I went through the motions, I did what was needed for my family, but I was not there. Then Kenta got sick, and everyone started leaving, and I began drinking again. I didn’t care what trouble I got into or why I stopped caring about my job at the hospital outside of it serving its purpose to keep me distracted from my own agony. When you came into my life for that short bit of time it fixed it - I can’t explain it. It was like this light that just ate away all the darkness. But then we went down different paths, and you ended up with your beloved Kaia. I never resented the fact, I was so happy for you two, especially when I heard you were going to be parents… “ She sniffed, wiping her eyes, realizing as she did so that she was ranting on. “The only reason I bring this up is that I want you to understand that I /know/. I know what it feels like to be where you are. I know what you’re facing. I know that even sixteen years later the pain still lingers and little sounds or sights trigger memories that I keep locked up tight.” She paused, clearing her throat and sniffling again. “But I also know that no matter what Ashi, nor Kaia, would want either of us to live out the remainder of our lives miserable. They would want us to be happy….”

She paused there, unaware of the way her body swayed and shifted as she listened to the sound of night-life all around from the birds and the crickets and so forth. “This was the first place I met Ashi… she knocked me right into that river over there. We came here all the time when we were together. It was on this spot that she had hunted me down when I had left alone to go tell my elder brother I was pregnant… she wanted to be there for that, even if Naota might have torn her to pieces… I thought it was a fitting place she is buried.”

Daremo

S-rank
Daremo sighed in clear annoyance at the unexpected announcement of his grandmother showing up. Just when he was about to finally move on, and indulge in something he desperately needed, a distraction happened. This was not the first time his grandmother did this to him. She having done it a lot when he was younger and had slacked up when he started dating Kaia-main, but it seemed like she had started once again. “You really have horrible timing, grandmother.”, He muttered, willing the tent in the front of his pants to go down before it was seen by her. Kami, he really needed to change the locks again to stop this from occurring.

Before he could continue musing, his fingers interlocked to Amaya’s, and he turned his attention to her. “A trip to where?”, He asked. The thought of going somewhere being the furthest from his own, considering what the woman had awakened in him. Yet, staring into her eyes told him that the trip was other utter importance for them. It being important enough to stop where they were definitely headed before his grandmother showed. Nodding in understanding, he allowed Amaya to lead him out of the house, and through the village.

Coming up to a beautiful clearing, Daremo’s eyes fell upon the pair of marble stones. Any form of happiness and content he had felt during the kiss vanished, and once more he became somber. As Amaya talked about her lover, Ashi, and the lost both of them shared, he felt his heart go out to her. He did not know that her past was filled with heartbreak as well. That she went down the route of alcoholism to cope with the pain of the lost. The more that was revealed, the more Daremo heart went out to her, but, there was something else.

Sadness, the gravestones remind him of his own tragic past. Of the woman who had stolen his heart before the likes of Tei, and Kaia-mai. A young and pure love amidst the Geisha lifestyle shared between them. It ended all but too soon with him finding her body, stomach gutted open, and unborn child laid out beside her. Only years later would the individuals responsible for such a heinous act would be dealt with accordingly,y, done in an animalistic fashion. Unfortunately, the those of responsible never did soothe him, the visual haunting of his lost love, and unborn child, haunting him for some time until the woman, a former client, who had a hand in the killing was dealt with accordingly.  in nigh animalistic fashion. The death of those responsible never did soothe him, visual hauntings of his lost love and unborn child haunted him for some time until the woman, a former client, who had a hand in the killings was dealt with accordingly. And seeing these graves were just a reminder of such a past.

Seeing the tears coming from her eyes, Daremo wrapped his arms around her. No words were needed to be spoken, the hug was enough to convey that he is there for her. That, she is not alone anymore. Once her tears had stopped, he moved to stand beside her, fingers inches from hers, “Yeah, I believe that too. None of them would want us to live the rest of our lives miserable.”, He spoke. His thoughts drifted to his first love, and the moment she visited him when he was confused on what to do. Just as such thoughts surface, a light caught his attention, and he turned his head to the right, a sad smile appearing on his face upon seeing who it was. “Thank you. . .”, He whispered, watching the specters of Maka who was holding the hand of a little girl,  and Kaia-mai, walk away, back into the light. The two of them give him their permission.

Looking towards the river, he could not help to conjure of the image Amaya unknowingly gave him. Dismissing the thoughts, he smiles softly, “She sounded like an amazing person.” A comfortable silence descended upon the pair. Sometime during the silences, his hand interlocked with her own, “It is getting late. Let’s go home.” He suggested. If willing, Daremo led them back home, all the while not letting go of her hand.

Opening the door, he allowed Amaya to enter first before following suit. Seeing a letter on the table, something that was not there before they left, he read it, “Of course she would do this.”, He muttered, “Grandmother decided to take the children with her back home. She said she would bring them back in two days. Apparently, Hikari is tagging along as well.” It was not surprising Hikari went along with the children. The Komodo princess had bonded with the twins, no matter how much she wants to deny the claim. Wherever they went, the dragon was not too far behind. Seeing how they had the house to themselves, he looked at Amaya, “So, what do you want to do?”

Most people believed that it took years to shape a person, and years longer still to fix and mend someone who was broken. Yet, how wrong those people were. The two days that had passed for the couple had been full of loving embraces, intimate moments, and deep and meaningful conversations. During those two days Amaya had given herself to Daremo in mind, body, and soul. There was not a single secret she now kept from him, no words she held back from uttering from her lips. She had shown him all of herself, both the good and the bad, the evil and the pure, the beautiful and the ugly. She had told him her hopes and dreams, and her ambitions that reached beyond the stars, yet she had also confided in him her fears: the fear of losing him, of losing Zaylee and Mamoru. She had explained about her own self-loathing and the loathing she held towards the Uchiha clan as a whole despite being a member herself. She confided in him how every single day she fought against the urge to rip her own eyes out, to rid herself of the power that had been used to destroy her wife and baby girl, yet how she also feared to do just that for fear that another would stumble upon her eyes and use them for terrible and horrible things. She also spoke in detail and depth on how she hated being a Uchiha because it painted not only herself but those around her as targets: people would go to desperate lengths to weild and gain such powers, including using those whom she cares for as leverage. This conversation had then taken Amaya and Daremo to places that at least in Amaya’s opinion she had never seen it going: she knew of the power of the Guanyin clan medically, or at least she thought she had, before Daremo had suggested an idea so great and so awe inspiring that she hadn’t allowed herself to gain hope it would actually work until it had. The pair schemed for hours, twisting and turning the idea around and around between them, ensuring that no issues and no bad outcome could come from what Daremo had suggested. Time and time again Amaya was questioned if it was a risk she was willing to take, and only when he was sure of her commitment did the pair set the plan in motion. In what could only be classified to some as a medical miracle Daremo used his natural Guanyin abilities to essentially recreate Amaya through stem-cells: breaking down and destroying those which contained her Uchiha DNA while restoring in its place those of a Guanyin: effectively turning Amaya into what would be an even more beastly medic nin. The process had been exhausting for both of them, especially working late into the night, so after ensuring that the process had caused no ill effects the pair had gracefully fallen asleep in each others arms, Amaya curled up to Daremo’s chest and tucked protectively against him.

The next morning had been filled with lovemaking, ending with the pair stepping out of the shower together, dressing with lingering touches and kisses - Amaya in her typical black long-sleeve turtleneck shirt, black pants, and boots, with her curly black hair left down and hanging freely down both her back and chest, and Daremo in his choice attire for the day. With Daremo in the kitchen cooking breakfast and filling the house with a variety of delicious smells - after making it a point that Amaya was, in fact, going to eat, especially considering what all her body had been through the night prior with the procedure they had done - Amaya had settled herself in a plush and comfortable chair in the living room, sitting sideways with her feet tucked up underneath of her with her boots on the floor nearby, left side of her body resting on the arm of the chair. Open in her hands was a book filled with the history of the Guanyin clan, something both thought she should study up on considering the changes that had occurred. As she read in silence, now stormy grey colored eyes darting across the book as she went from page to page, she twirled skillfully a foot and a half long senbon between the fingers of her right hand: something she had just recently created from virtually nothing.

The Guanyin clan have served for the last two centuries great and renown leaders of nations with pride and respect across the ninja world, dating back to the enigmatic stories of the clans' inception. Serving notably in several great ninja wars as both soldiers, leaders, as well as medics, advisers and personal physicians to the elite. Though the history of their creation goes back many, many decades further.

Once little more than humble farmers and medics in the wide open land of fire a millennium ago, the Guanyin tended fields and sewed crops over the land taking care of all life within their boarders. Their attachment to nature, a strong point for all to see while their fine nimble hands seemingly crafted with the intent purpose to tend farms and weave the finest of silks. Though as the conflicts around them grew to a fever pitch at their sides, their neutrality as well as their open invitation to heal, feed, and cater to anyone who crossed into their land literally caused the war to fissure and break around their peaceful township. As their offer was only open so long as no blood was spilled in their noble lands.

The Guanyin had made themselves a vastly needed commodity in the war, to the point of necessity. Their healing talents rare enough to be needed, their clan once strong and important enough to hold back conflict with their reputation alone, without the need to draw a a single weapon. It was not until the war literally wrapped around their village that complications began to occur in the villages peace. The neutral zone to the aggressors, was too wide, literally becoming a shield for either side to hide behind, drawing the trenches and battlements around it and sealing in the Guanyin. All while simultaneously allowing either side to entrench themselves as any offensive force needed to attack around the province.

The province's two prestigious leaders, brothers, convened in private with one another to discuss what course of action they were to take in the following days. The younger brother of some minutes, Drakpo, said that they should allow the fire country through their Provence, as the defending force was weakest where their village met their battlements because of their trust in the neutral province. This action alone, would end the war and allow them to once again live out their peaceful lives. To which, the older brother Dharma declined vehemently, holding vast to his ideal of neutrality... divided, they could do nothing.

Dharma claimed that their legacy, and peace, was too noble a cause to forfeit for the sake of one conflict, that it would tarnish their clans honor forever, drenching them in dishonor... in these days, it was taboo for a Guanyin to train to wield both the wounding and healing needle. The Guanyin saw wielding both as closing a cycle of power too great for one person to wield alone. So the clan divided their nation among those who would wield the power of the red; most commonly used to kill off infection and spoiled crops, and the blue; which was used to heal and repair that which can be saved. Not a soul was allowed to use the power of both, apart from the two village leaders. And even then, only their legendary father had 'ever' in the nations history been able to wield two needles of the same colour, it was his power, which led to the action of the taboo...

The father of the brothers had been a legend and prior leader of the village. The initial creator of the red and blue needles he had been able to create two of the same colour which created an effect far exceeding the sum of their parts. It seemed it was the nature of these techniques, to heal even dead cells and kill any trace of living that some claimed the man to have power to govern life and death itself. However the founder had left long ago, leaving his sons in equal charge of his legacy and to teach his techniques, instructing them that no person should ever wield both, not trusting any with the power that tortured him at his fingers.

Grossly unsatisfied and angered with his bother's answer Drakpo went to the fire country in secret a week later, offering to them the pathway through their lands to their sworn enemies. However Dharma was wise, having known his brother for a lifetime he plotted against this known eventuality. So, with his clan united under him, Dharma stood in the path of the country of fire to halt their progress. Warriors of the Guanyin, not yet ninja, stood against Drakpo and the Ninja of Konohagakure in a hopeless conflict to prevent the loss of their honor as a peaceful neutral people. Determination flaring in their eyes as words were lost to actions and lives were lost to the blade.

Those they defended, once long aggressors, came to the aid of the Guanyin people as they fought. thinking that they were under attack for causing a blockade while knowing that they had the Guanyin to thank for the healing of their sick and the provision of food during the long skirmish. So after years of peace, the first drop of blood was finally spilled on the fertile land. Around the brother's as they dueled, many fought and died for their country. Though they fought with both needles, colliding with each other as harmony lay in tatters under grand gestures. As the battle became more and more heated it was apparent to everyone Dharma's pacifism showed in his lack of combat skill. In a final twist of fate the brothers span and collected each other with a single needle...

Drakpo had driven the offensive needle deep into his brother's chest, as a lethal wound administered into and around Dharmas' heart killing cells throughout his body. Dharma however, adhering to his greater nature to the end, had not plunged a red needle into his brother, instead thrusting the blue healing needle into Drakpo, healing the wounds he had caused him throughout the fight, which would have claimed his life shortly after the battle. Dharma, falling to the ground from the wounds lay with a faint smile, choosing the life of his people and handing the duty of leadership to his brother in full.

Drakpo from that moment on deeply regretted his decisions, withdrawing his people from the war in an instant. Joining the Guanyin once again and pushing the battle lines back outwards. After the battle ended, the fallout commenced, the ravaged clan tended to as many of the sick and wounded as they possibly could, but they were thin. The once expansive Guanyin reduced to a poultry ten dozen people from the battle. Their land largely destroyed and put to the flame, the Guanyin were scattered. So, Drakpo ordered families to take up the mark of their clan as nomadic individuals, adding the symbol of the double snake to immortalize the Guanyin brothers. Naming the needle techniques after them, the clan were to travel and attempt to bring whatever peace they could back to the nations they visited. Lifting the limits of the taboo on wielding both needles as every Guanyin, held the future of their clan in their hands.

Each word was memorized as she read, filling her mind with the volumes of information that had been made available to her. Of course she easily assumed and guess that there were other things about the clan that would never be mentioned in books, and while that too piqued her interest she knew that starting with the building blocks of the clan and going from there was the best idea: though her natural thirst for knowledge made it all that more appealing to get to the more secretive of the stuff she could now do. As she read in silence, even going so far as to go back and reread to make sure she had memorized and understood it all, she listened to the various sounds in the kitchen as Daremo went about cooking, a smile spreading across her face as she thought over the past two days: while there had been trust between the two before, him having come out of the proverbial closet in a way about who he really was and so forth long ago, it seemed that in the past two days that trust had grown even more, and she found herself once again thankful to have that kind of bond and relationship with someone.

As she flipped another page with her left hand, still twirling the giant senbon between the fingers of her right hand, her sensitive hearing picked up on the sounds of familiar giggling and voices: Daremo’s grandmother and the children had arrived. Without thinking she returned her gaze to the book, knowing full well that Daremo’s grandmother had a key and loathing the idea of getting up from her chair at that moment. It was a split second too late that she realized she should have made the senbon disappear as she heard them enter and the children followed by their great-grandmother enter into the living room; the elderly woman stopping mid-sentence as her gaze shifted to the Guanyin style senbon Amaya had her in hand, a senbon which disappeared immediately after. Even as the kids rushed over to hug her, a gesture she returned as she put her book aside, her now stormy grey gaze shifted to Daremo’s grandmother: they had some explaining to do, didn’t they?

Daremo

How far would someone go to help the person they love? Would they go to the end of the earth? Would they traverse both heaven and heaven? Maybe they would cast the world into ruin for their significant other. Often times, when the question is proposed to Daremo, he answered in the aforementioned fashion. There was nothing he would not do to help a person he loves. Yet, even though he said that there were certain areas he would not cross. Certain taboos that he would rather not perform, even if it meant helping someone close to him. But, he found himself crossing these avenues when a certain Uchiha opened up to him.

Uchiha, Amaya, there is many ways to describe the woman. Feisty, hot-tempered, and blunt are just a few words that collate into who the woman was. She was someone who wore her heart on her sleeve, and he can’t count the number of hospital walls having to be redone after she punched them upon failing to save a patient. She was not afraid to let her emotions show in some facet of another. She could be the greatest of friends or the worst of enemies. She cared and loved those in her circle, willing to do anything for them.

With that being said, never did he think the woman was afraid. Yet, sure enough, she opened up to him after her fears. These fears stemming from who she was - an Uchiha. She told him how much she loathed being apart of the clan. How she feared that one day someone would hunt her down for her eyes. How being an Uchiha with mature eyes painted an unnecessary target on her back, and it was something she did not wane, especially now. She did not want to be hunted after finding another reason to live in the form of Zaylee and Mamoru, his twin children by Kaia-mai. She spoke of the dangers that could be presented to them due to her being an Uchiha. She opened up her heart to him, telling him that she did not want to lose any of them. The conversation was an eye opener for sure.

Somewhere down the line it shifted to something Daremo was both unprepared and prepared for at the same time. Stem-cells, the building blocks of life, at least in his eyes. The number of journals of the benefit of stem-cells was abundance. Many medical physicians seeing them as a way to prolong one’s life by swapping out failing organs with newer one’s created from the cells. While some of it seemed far-fetched, there had been cases where used to say a patient from death. Fascinating it is, there was only one clan who were capable of creating the stem-cells without needing any material. And that clan is the Guanyin; the one Daremo, and his family is exiled from.

Though his skills mainly lied in more deadlier avenues, Daremo knew more than most about the stem-cell chakra running through him. He knew exactly how potent they could be when pushed to their maximum capabilities. Knowing this, a crazy thought was formed. What if he could alter Amaya’s DNA? Wiping away what made her an Uchiha, and by using his own genetic material, turn her into a Guanyin? Stem-cells took on the characteristics of its surrounding, therefore, it should not be too difficult to perform. Presenting the idea to Amaya, the pair talked hours on end, going over every possible scenario multiple of times, making sure never was miscalculated or something was overlooked. They were meticulous about their work as the plan for the crazy idea came to shape.

Throughout the scheming, Daremo kept on questioning Amaya, wanting to be sure this was what she wanted. That, if this succeeded, she can never go back as being an Uchiha. This was a one-way type of deal. She would lose her eyes and gain something different. Only after the 100th time upon asking her did Daremo started the procedure. It was grueling, nerve-wracking, and so much more. His abilities as a medic were put to the test as he broke down and destroyed the DNA they made her an Uchiha, and used stem-cell chakra, having the DNA of a Guanyin, and placed it where the Uchiha DNA once was. The strain was rebuilt, making her body believe that she had always been a Guanyin. The procedure was exhausting, and after running medical scans, making sure nothing was wrong, did he fall asleep, vaguely remember Amaya curled up against him.

The next morning came by rather quickly, and before anything else could be done, Daremo ran another medical scan on her. One can never be to safe, especially considering what they did. Only after the last scan was run did Daremo indulged in lovemaking with Amaya. The lovemaking was not contained to only the bedroom, but, also the bathroom and shower. It would have continued on if not for their stomach growling. Stepping out of the shower, neither one wanted to be too far from one another as their fingers were always touching one another, lingering ever slightly. Getting dress was a quick affair for Daremo, he opts to wear a short-sleeve semi-transparent, dark blue buttoned-up shirt, and black pants. Jika-tabi covered his feet.

Following her out into the living room, Daremo spotted the familiar Guanyin book detailing the history of the clan. The book being a gift from his mother who got it from her own mother. He had suggested it would be something worth reading due to her new Kekkai Genkai. Speaking of which, peaking into the living room, he noted the foot and half long senbon Amaya had created, it seemed the procedure had worked. “There is only so much that book will tell you about the clan’s history”, He spoke, loud enough for Amaya to hear him, while continue cooking the rather large breakfast, “It does not go into detail about what came after the Guanyin became nomadic.” Such a topic was one of many he had asked his mother and grandmother about with them only giving him vague answers at best.

Sensitive ears picked upon the familiar chatter of Zaylee and Mamoru, “Seems like that are back already.”, He spoke, setting the plates onto the table, eyes flickering up at the door, just as they entered. Moving into the living room, he noticed the look his grandmother was given Amaya, “Hello grandmother.”, The sound of his voice snapped the elderly lady out of her musing, as she returned the hug her grandson gave him. Sharp eyes, who had seen far too much shit, scrutinized Amaya and Daremo respectively. “I thought she is an Uchiha?”, The woman spoke, not minding her husband, who had entered a tad later, taking the children away, leaving the three to talk.

“She was - - -” Daremo did not bother saying anything else at the glare thrown his way by his grandmother who focused back on Amaya. “Can I see it?”, She suddenly asked, plucking the book from Amaya’s hand before the woman to give a reply. Flipping through the book, she shook her head, “You know. There are certain taboos within the Guanyin clan. There are certain rules that should never be crossed. Have you got to that part yet, Amaya-chan?”, She asked, knowing well the answer, “One of these rules is in regards to the destruction of Kekkai Genkai. We are not permitted to perform such an act. The Guanyin see it as something only a God should do. We are not allowed to remove a Kekkai Genkai from others unless we wish to be exiled from the clan. Furthermore, we are not allowed to give our Kekkai Genkai or any others to someone else, unless we invite death to us. You know this Nanashi.” Closing the book with an audible snap, the grandmother glared at them both. “So children, tell me why you did this. I do not want to vague answer. I want the truth or close enough so I can understand.” Thought she had addressed them both, her eyes were on Amaya.

As the children were led away by their grandfather after hugs were given Amaya’s focus shifted onto Daremo’s grandmother and remained locked upon her, her own stormy grey eyes clear and showing a great deal of calmness and patience. The woman’s voice as she began to speak, asking if she could see the book and then plucking it from Amaya’s nimble fingers before she could give a verbal response, was calm but it fooled her none. This wasn’t calm in the peaceful sense of the word, this was like the calm before the storm. The lulling breeze that dragged you in before hooking its claws into your flesh and causing all manner of havoc and hell. It was a voice that would likely cause anyone in their right mind to shiver and bulk at the sheer thought of being in trouble, especially when they had at least half an inkling of what that individual was capable of. Amaya, however, was clearly not in her right mind. She felt no fear towards the woman, no cause for concern, in fact she wasn’t afraid of her at all. This was no mark of sass on her part or any such thing, it was just more of an understanding and acceptance that things would be whatever they may and there was no point in fretting about them now. She and Nanashi had done the deed, and if they had to pay for the ‘crime’ then so be it. It did nothing to change her mind of the fact that they had done the right thing.

So it was with silence and respect that she listened to the elderly Guanyin speak, explaining about the taboo things that were not allowed in the clan. Taboo things that would led to exile and even more importantly death. Her and Daremo had broken all of the rules and then some, delving into places that no Guanyin was supposed to go and essentially playing ‘God’. Unlike a normal person who would have tried interrupting or stuttering out a response Amaya remained incredibly calm and quiet, allowing the woman her chance to speak as she chose to, and not even batting an eye as the book was snapped shut with a kind of finality that spelled the trouble nearing. Even as they were referred to as children while being asked why they had done what they did she gave no response except her clear grey-eyed stare and the calmness she had kept the entire time.

Since the question, despite being posed to both of them seemed to be directed more towards her, she took a soft inhale before speaking, knowing as she did so that she would not sugar coat nor lie as the woman deserved the truth just as she had asked for it, ”SIxteen years ago I lost my first child, three years after that I lost my second child and my wife. I’ve dealt with that pain for an incredibly long time. I’ve also dealt with the self loathing that came with the fact that my wife and second child were killed not by some random stranger but rather a Uchiha: a Uchiha who felt fit to use the powers of Amaterasu against them. My hatred of myself, of my clan, was so great that on several occasions I had to be stopped from ripping my own eyes out to rid myself of the power I gained that day upon coming home to the news of the death of my family on more than one occasion. While this isn’t my reason, this is the base of it. For well over the following decade I had to watch my own clan, my own family, waiting for the day the curse of hatred kicked in and one of them came for me. Waiting for the day that one of them tried to rip my eyes from my skull and take my power unto themselves, increasing their own power while destroying me in the process. Yet, for well over a decade I dealt with this, knowing that it would be me they came after and no one else. My connections were few and far between, I had no deep and meaningful connections, no innocence I had to protect. Until now. Nanashi and I did this not for me, but for those two children who in the past two years have stolen my heart and wrapped themselves around it. Leaving to protect them would have only hurt them worse, especially since they have just begun to heal from Kaia’s departure. Yet, staying here as a Uchiha would have painted a target on my back, and more importantly their own. I don’t doubt Nanashi for a second in his ability to protect himself, nor the children, but it was a risk I would have rather not taken. I understand that what we did is considered wrong, but it doesn’t change my decision, nor does it make me regret it. I did what I thought was right for those children, and I stand by that. If this means I’m considered a bad guy for it, if it means my own brother and family reject me because I threw away such power, then so be it. Those children are more important to me than that, as is Daremo.” The entire time she spoke her voice remained clear and calm, there was no deceit in it, no ulterior motives. She had made this decision not for herself, who had been dealing with her own self hatred for so long at that point, but rather to ensure the protection of the children. If that made what they had done wrong then she would be wrong, but she would never regret making this choice.

Once she had said what she needed to she fell silent, wanting to give Daremo a chance to add anything that he wished to add, or for his grandmother to respond if she chose. She kept her body language calm and content: she truly did not regret her decision. She had no intentions of flaunting what she had become, though she did intend on making sure the Uchiha knew she somehow ‘threw away’ her abilities. That her eyes no longer possessed the abilities of the Sharingan in any form or variety. As she heard the distant giggling she only felt reaffirmed in her belief and decision that this had been the right choice to make.

Daremo

S-rank
Daremo could count on one hand the number of people he truly feared. The amount of people who he would not dare cross either because of their abilities, or something else, and right now, two of those people were in the house. But the one who he feared the most was not his grandfather, the distant laughter of the twins making it known where the man was, rather, it was the elderly lady who had just plucked the book from Amaya’s hands. She was by far one of the scariest people he has the luxury knowing on a personal level, more so than his own mother. This fear stemmed from her presence, it being the physical embodiment of the sea. She can be calm one moment, and the next, sweep away everyone in her fact. Moreso, the fear dealt with her abilities as a Guanyin, with her skills exceeding his, despite her admitting that she is ‘rusty’. Yes, he has a very good reason to fear his grandmother.

Though, despite fearing the woman, he did not show any ounce of shame when she accused him of knowing the rules regarding the Guanyin’s taboos. While some would show some form of being sorry, he did not. Apologizing does not do anything in the grand scheme of things for the act had already been committed. One can not take back what they have done, or didn’t do, they can only continue moving forward with their life. Such ideology is the way of thinking by those apart of his family. None of the Guanyin apologize for what they did, they just keep on moving forward. He knew the moment he said ‘sorry’ or show signs of being guilty for what he did would be the moment his grandmother gets angry at him.

In an act of solidarity, he moved closer to Amaya, resting a comforting hand on her shoulder, and squeezing it likely. Though no words were spoken, it confirmed that he would stand by her throughout it all, that he was committed to her. Reptilian eyes met the emerald green ones of his grandmother, a silent conversation raging on between the two before those same green eyes fell on Amaya. With the message received, he would not interfere in the question opposed to Amaya. It would be up to her to give his grandmother the answers that she sought.

Sugako’s face was unreadable as she listened to Amaya’s tale. The child before her, for that, was what she was in Sugako’s eyes, having suffered a loss no mother should have to experience, yet, one she was familiar with as well. She spoke of loathing the clan which she originated from - Uchihas. Oh, the thought of them brought back some fond memories of the elderly woman. She had enjoyed killing those who dared to attempt and copied her techniques. They were a useless bunch with their eyes only be worth interest. Dismissing those thoughts, for now, Sugako listened to Amaya spoke had lived in fear, waiting for the day someone would come after her for her eyes, they being a hot commodity in the Elemental Nations. At the mention of her grandson, Sugako glanced in the silver-haired male direction before refocusing on Amaya. Once the tale was finished, a silence descended upon the room, only being broken by the happy squeals of her great-grandchildren. “Another strong woman.”, She spoke, glancing at Daremo who just shrugged, “This one has a bright fire in her. It is no wonder you fell for her.” Looking at the book in hand, Sugako flipped it back to the page Amaya was reading, and hand it back to her, “It is ironic you two managed to do something that it took me months to figure out.” She spoke.

“Actually, honey, it took us three years.”,  Sugako tossed an ignoring glance in the direction where the voice had come from. Despite the man being upstairs, he still was able to hear the conversation amidst everything else. “As I was corrected, you two did something that it took me and Jinpachi three years to accomplish.” Smiling, Sugako’s eyes looked off into the distance, “How history repeats itself.”, She spoke, looking at them both, “I can not fault you for what you did. When I was younger, I did the same thing for my husband. I did not care for the rules of the clan. I did not care the elders said it was forbidden. Jinpachi needed a way to stop being hunted down, and I gave it to him. We got caught, and before they could execute us, my parents freed us, and gave us a means to escape. They sacrifice themselves for two lovestruck brats. The end result was our family line being stricken from the Guanyin records, hunted. At least, from what I know, they believe the line died with us.”

Surprising, while he knew about his family being exiled from the clan, the exact reason was not known. Yet, here was his grandmother telling them the reason, though, it was apparent some stuff was left out. Oh, how he wanted to ask her about it, to know more about their past, yet, he held in the curiosity for now. “So, you are okay with what we did?”, He asked, receiving a nod from the grandmother.

“I am.” She reaffirmed, looking at Amaya, “But, with you not being a Guanyin it means that you will need to be trained. While the needle you made was impressive, you still got a long road ahead of you. Seeing how you care for my grandson, and great-grandchildren, I will personally oversee your training whenever I am around, until then, Nanashi should suffice in teaching you need to know.” Sugako was not going to take no for an answer. Just like she had trained Kaia-mai, she would train Amaya. However, unlike Kaia-mai, Amaya’s training would be even more grueling due to her being a Guanyin. Afterall, if the woman was going to be with Nanashi then she had to be as strong, if not stronger, than him.

The elderly woman’s face had been unreadable throughout Amaya’s entire tale, giving nothing away as Amaya revealed her deepest and darkest despairs and secrets to yet another soul. She was aware of Daremo coming over before her story began, his comforting hand on her shoulder and the gentle squeeze giving her the strength to get through it all without a single tear being shed despite the fact that the memories that surfaced made her feel as if her already emotionally damaged heart was being torn to pieces again. She had no idea what the woman would think of her story, but she hoped that it at least served as a decent enough explanation for her and her grandson’s actions. Amaya had not done this to gain power - though in her opinion she was bound to be far more powerful now than ever before - nor had she done it because of her own self-loathing. No, she had done this all for her grandson, and her great-grandchildren, for their safety, so that they wouldn’t have to suffer any more than they already had. Despite the drawbacks to all of this weighing heavily against Amaya, including the risk of being exiled from her own family, she had still followed through with this for them, to make sure that the people she loved were safe and sound at the end of the day. There was no regretting this decision, and there never would be. She could only hope that Daremo’s grandmother understood this, and could accept it.

However, despite waiting for an expecting a response, she found herself momentarily shocked by the words that left Nanashi’s grandmother: another strong woman. Yet, despite this response, she managed to hide her surprise well, at least until the elderly women mentioned that it was ironic it had taken them two days to figure out what it had taken her months to do. If it was anyone else Amaya would have probably been a cheeky little dickwaffle, but because this was Daremo’s grandmother and Amaya respected the hell out of her she withheld from doing so, though she did correct her words with a thoughtful tone, “Actually, less than two days… we spent the first day um-yeahing upstairs.” No point in being vulgar about what they had been doing, especially with the children and their own sensitive hearing - something she had noticed several weeks earlier when Mamoru had asked her why she was saying bad words under her breath the night she had tried cooking and ended up burning dinner, despite him having not been in the room with her at the time.

It was then with a raised eyebrow that she listened as the woman continued on to explain that she had done the same thing for her husband: he too was hunted, and she had done the same to ensure his safety. Sadly, her tale was not as easy going as things had been for herself and Daremo: the elderly women’s parents having sacrificed themselves to ensure that the pair could get away and escape before they were executed. As Daremo asked for confirmation that his grandmother was okay with what they did her gaze darted from him and then back to her in time to see her nod before she spoke again. As training was mentioned Amaya nodded in agreement: it wasn’t like she was going to say no after all. Being trained by someone as powerful as Nanashi’s grandmother? Yes please, sign me up, even though she was quite sure it was going to be grueling and horrifying - then again, Amaya was never one to back down from anything. Like everything else life had thrown at her, she would get through this too and then come out on the other side far stronger than she was now, and more readily able to protect those whom she loved and cared for. ”Excellent, I look forward to it.”, she spoke with a grin: oh yeah, she was definitely a glutton for punishment. She wasn’t the type who got off on pain, but she certainly got some kind of satisfaction with being put through the grueling paces that was for sure.

All in all this whole situation had gone over better than she expected it to, and she found herself hoping that the same could be said for her parents and brother. She gave little care what the rest of the Uchiha clan thought, unlike some, she didn’t consider them family, but her parents and brother did matter to her. She could only hope they’d be just as understanding. With her stomach growling, a reminder as much as the delicious scent of food that hung in the air, that breakfast was done the family moved to the table to eat, the kids Breakfast was a quiet and relaxing affair, everyone partaking of the delicious food that Daremo had cooked: rice, miso soup, and grilled fish. It was delicious, filling, and most importantly for Amaya easy on her stomach that was so used to going without due to her own issues with food that it tended to revolt anything that was considered too heavy for it. Just as she was getting up to help with the collection of plates and to do dishes since Nanashi had cooked them all such a delicious meal she felt a familiar presence in the air, her head turning towards the door as she recognized the familiar large chakra signatures of her mother and father. ”My parents are here…”, she uttered softly, a knock soon following her words that had Amaya depositing the stack of dishes carefully into the sink before heading to the front door and opening it. Words of greeting were spoken as Amaya hugged both her mother and father before inviting them inside. Her parents often liked to visit: their commitment to their family well known both inside and outside of the Uchiha clan. So, while the visit was not a surprise, it was somewhat nerve-wracking for Amaya who had been hoping to have time to prep herself before delving into yet another nerve-wracking revelation.

Sure enough, no sooner had her father pulled back from the hug, did his gaze narrow upon her now stormy-grey colored gaze. “Amaya… what have you done now?”, he asked in a voice that was exasperated while also sounding resigned: which was exactly how he was - he knew his daughter got up to ‘mischief’ with her abilities, and while it never made him happy he had come to expect it. Her mother likewise noticed her eyes almost immediately and then rolled her own in response before sighing. “Oh boy… Why don’t we all get comfy hmm? Then you can tell us what you did, yeah?”, the woman responded in a voice that was both amused and concerned sounding to which Amaya nodded, leading the couple into the living room, resuming the same seat she had had earlier while her parents took up residence on the nearby loveseat. She watched as her mother took both of her father’s hands into her own and it quickly reminded her of her childhood and how her mother had always been so easily able to calm her father’s temper in any situation despite him having the famous Uchiha rage issues.

Bracing herself she took a deep breath before starting, knowing she didn’t have to worry about Zaylee and Mamoru being well occupied with their grandparents, ”You both know for a while my issues with being an Uchiha. I’ve never hidden it from either of you or Naota. I’ve lost a lot throughout the years and I’ve always hated that those loses only continued to gain me more power - power that put the people I care about in further danger as others sought to grab it. Well, yesterday Daremo and I found a way to change me from an Uchiha into something else.”, she stopped there as she saw the spark of anger mixed with concern in her father’s eyes and heard her mother gasp in shock. She didn’t mention that she was now a Guanyin, she didn’t mention in detail how it had been done or how much of a hand that Nanashi had had in it exactly, and not just because she hadn’t been given a chance. “Do you mean to tell me you’ve somehow figured out a way to remove the parts of you that made you an Uchiha?”, her father asked: while he didn’t have any medical knowledge he at least got the grasp of things fairly well. Amaya nodded in response, but before she could open her mouth to speak her father was on his feet, removing his hands from his wife’s grasp. “Amaya!”, her father spoke her name in a scolding and angry manner, yet there lay another emotion below that that she could both hear and feel: fear. He was afraid, afraid that his daughter had once more found a way to put herself into a dangerous situation that could have gone any number of ways but good.

“Dad, please… please understand where I’m coming fro---”

“Understand? Amaya I do, honey. I do understand…”, her father responded, beginning to pace around - it was easier that way, a habit really when his emotions became wilder and less controlled. “I understand how you feel. But to do something like this… to put yourself at risk like that? Your mother and I spent years of our lives afraid to close our eyes, wondering if we’d lose you while we were sleeping. Wondering if that day would be the day we had to say goodbye to you. Even after you overcame your sickness we still were concerned. You wanted to be a shinobi so we let you. You wanted to be a doctor, we supported you. Despite knowing it would only further put you in danger. But now you’ve done this... “, he stopped there, sighing as he focused his attention back on his daughter. “Tell me why Amaya. Tell me everything. No sugar coating.”

Amaya shifted her gaze from her father and onto her mother who likewise showed the same concern: though the woman hadn’t voiced a single thing Amaya knew that she too was feeling the same way - she wanted to know why she wanted to be made to understand. Her father hadn’t been lying in his words, every day had been a struggle and a fight for Amaya when she was a child, every day was left with the question of if it would be her last. Would her entire family have to say goodbye to her? Sighing softly Amaya nodded, willing to give them what they wanted. “You both know the power my eyes contained after Ashi and my daughter were murdered. You know better than anyone how such power was sought after. I dealt with that for over a decade on my own. I was accepting of it because I knew they’d target me, not anyone else. These past two years though, with spending time with Daremo and Zaylee and Mamoru… I’ve grown attached to them, I love them. I couldn’t imagine putting those little ones or Daremo into a situation of being hunted down or hurt just so someone could try and use them to get to me. I also couldn’t just walk away, not after everything that’s happened, it would tear them apart. So I did what I thought was right. I rid myself of the Uchiha genes, and they were replaced with those of a Guanyin.”

“That sounds… dangerous, to say the least.”, her mother pipped in finally, to which her father nodded his head in agreement. Amaya nodded, conceding the point.

”It could have been, yes, had it gone wrong. But, that’s why we ensured we knew exactly what we were doing beforehand. Daremo also took every precaution he could and has checked me multiple times since then to ensure that nothing went awry. We didn’t take any unnecessary risks.”, Amaya fell silent then, glancing at her mother before watching her father begin to pace back and forth once more: momentarily reminded of a lion pacing its cage in frustration and annoyance.

“I can’t fault you for this, I suppose…”, her father finally spoke as he came to a stop and sighed. “I understand why you did it, I really do. You love those children and Daremo, I can tell.” Another sigh as he made his way over to Amaya, pulling her into a hug which she returned. “Just do me one favor next time, yeah? Let us know what’s going on beforehand. I know you’re an adult now and capable of making your own decisions, but I would rather know ahead of time what’s going on than be left being blindsided by it. Guanyin, Uchiha, it makes no difference, you are still my daughter, still my baby girl, and I love you more than life itself. You don’t need to hide anything from me.”

Amaya nodded at her father’s words, giving him a gentle squeeze and then hugging her mother who had likewise come over during the exchange. They had handled it better than she had expected, but then again they had always both been fairly understanding. Her father was a strict man, but he wasn’t an asshole.

If Daremo was in the room it would be to him that Amaya’s father’s gaze would travel to next, a bit of mischief mixing with the normally stern gaze he had. “So, you two are an item now, eh? I hope you intend on making an honest woman out of my daughter.”

”.... And I suddenly feel sixteen again.”, Amaya muttered under her breath, the comment easily caught by her father.

“Don’t you mean fourteen? Unless my mental faculties are failing you were married by fourteen, not sixteen.” Amaya opened her mouth, clearly about to reply, when a playful nudge in her ribs by her mother quieted her down. Well, if this wasn’t being put on the spot she didn’t know what was. Leave it to her father to make things awkward.

Daremo

S-rank
Sugako’s citrine eyes, a trait inherited by her children and grandchildren, narrowed at the black-haired woman who had squirmed into her grandson’s life. A look of recognition flashed in the weather eyes, that had seen enough horrors to the last multiple of lifetimes, before returning back to calming disposition. Blame it on old age, but, despite having met Amaya multiple times throughout the past three years, it just registered to Sugako that she, Amaya, was the same woman who her grandson used to talk about so two decades ago. Until now, she never made the connection between this Amaya, and the Amaya of the past, they seemingly being two different people. Once he grandson had started dating, and eventually married Kaia-mai,  he had stopped talking about Amaya, and Sugako did not pry for an answer. Her grandson no longer mentioned the woman, thus, she assumed they were no longer friends.

The assumption was clearly wrong. The black-haired woman who she had shared tea with on numerous occasions, talked about the trivial matters of the world around them, gossiped about the men in their lives, and give sound advice when it came to parenting, and dealing with a lover who lost a significant other, was the same Amaya who her grandson spoke fondly about in the past. It was an interesting revelation for sure, but, it illustrated the woman’s age. She was old. There was no way to deny such a claim. Being in her late seventies, she knew that she had lived longer than most shinobi. She was one of the lucky ones to survive to such a covenant age. But, as with everything in life, consequences come with advancement. With her being pushing eighty soon, her mind was deteriorating. Memories, both good and bad, were slowly eroding by time, similar to how wind weathers away a rock. She was forgetting things, and it became increasingly harder for her to remember certain things.

Some would be disheartened about such occurrences, but, Sugako, was relieved. While she could have used medical ninjutsu to prevent the memory loss, and stop her age, the elderly woman was tired, much like her husband. She did not realize how tired she was until Mayuko, her precious daughter died. A child should never die before the parent, yet, that exactly what happened. The one who took after her much more than the other two, passed away before she did. The last time she wept that much, with her husband, was when her parents sacrificed themselves for them. Nevertheless, Mayuko’s death hit her harder than her grandchildren would ever know. It made her feel even older than what she was. It made her tired.

The feeling became even more prominent when her grandson told her that she was going to be a father. She was going to be the great-grandmother to twins. She was happy that she would get to chance to meet them, but, it reminded her that neither of them would get to meet their grandmother. Neither of them would get to experience the joys of having a grandmother who would spoil them rotten, giving them candy before sending them home, knowing that their parents would have to deal with the hyperness. They would never get to experience the love of Mayuko. The woman having talked giddily about how she was going to spoil her grandchildren, as soon as Nanashi got his ass moving in that department. Adamantly, she mentioned the places where she wanted to take them, allowing them to experience the beauty of the Elemental Nations, and shield them from the darkness that she, regrettably, forced her son to see. The woman even went out of her to buy gifts for the children. Gifts that, unknowingly to them, they receive whenever she brings a gift of her own over. Such a thing was another reminder that she was getting old. She should not be the one giving her great-grandchild gifts, but, the grandmother. Alas, the world was not fair. It did not reward one for good behavior.

Having struggled with the death of family, hiding from her clan due to them wanting to execute her, killing distant members who had found that she was alive, and another of other things, Sugako was relieved that her memories were slipping. The fading of memories made it easier not to remember some of the past she wishes to forget and made it easier to accept what was waiting for her. Tired. She was tired, but soon, she, along with her husband, will be released from such a feeling, but, first, she has to live a bit longer to fulfill the last wish of Mayuko.

Sugako’s unreadable expression cracked, a knowing smirk spreading across her face, at how tactful and respectful Amaya was being with hinting at the other activities they had been doing. “I am impressed it only took you that long to figure out the surgery.” Her eyes soften upon looking at Daremo, “Mayuko-chan would have been proud of your accomplishment.” Those same eyes found their way back to Amaya, “You know, you didn’t have to mention about your extra activities, right? Will, I be expecting more great-grandchildren anytime soon?”, She lightly jests. It was amusing when the family was tactful around her as if she was some prune.

Knowing how sensitive the ears of some people in the house was, Sugako switched subjects. It would do no good if the twins overheard something that shouldn’t. While it would be funny to see how Amaya and Nanashi would handle the situation, there were other matters of concern. The unreadable expression from before returned as she waited to hear Amaya’s decision in regards to training. Well, to say the woman actually had a choice would be a misconception, no matter her answer, Amaya would be getting trained by the elderly woman. She would teach the woman what it meant to be a Guanyin from her particular line. Upon hearing Amaya’s response, Sugako smile, “That is the response I was hoping for. You have two weeks to get adjusted with your new abilities before I start training you. Jinpachi will watch over the twins.” Seeing the look of confusion on Nanashi’s face, “Yes, I will also be training you in a couple of things that Mayuko never got around in doing, along with teaching you some of the more darker aspects that aren’t necrosis bases.”

An eyebrow was raised by Daremo when his grandmother mentioned teaching him something else asides for necrotic techniques, what he was known for. What else was darker than the ability to afflicted others with necrosis? He did not think about the subject for long. He was not going to turn down the opportunity to learn from his grandmother. This was the same woman who trained his mother, teaching her the interrogation arts among other nasty things. He would be foolish in rejecting such a chance, therefore, he nodded in understanding.

“I will be dropping by every morning at 5:30 am to grab you too, and your training will last until 5:30 pm with there being breaks in between, and some downtime for the children to see their parents. You both will hurt. And, you will curse my existence for all eternity. But, you will learn what is needed.” Sugako warned, wanting them to understand that her training was not going to be easy. She was going to train them to the best of her abilities, hammering in everything she wished for them to learn, which, unknowing to them, is everything she knew. Yes, these two would learn everything, and take further than she ever could.

With his grandmother understanding the situation, Daremo got up from the couch, giving Amaya a kiss on the cheek, before heading into the kitchen. Grabbing an apron, two clones shimmered into existences, Daremo began making breakfast for the occupants. Like always, Daremo did not skimp on making breakfast for his family. With the help of clones, it did not take long to make enough rice, miso soup, and grilled fish to feed everyone. By the time plates were set, his grandfather emerged from upstairs with Zaylee and Mamoru in tow. The twins cling into their grandfather, giggling at something funny he had said them. Smiling brightly, Daremo sat down with his family and enjoyed the idle chit chat shared between them.

Belly full, he got up to help Amaya collect the plates for the other occupants who all had moved back into the living room to watch television. Just as the plates were being picked up, Daremo felt a large chakra signature coming towards the house. Before he could question who it might be, Amaya spoke up, mentioning it was her parents. “Your parents?”, He could not remember ever meeting her parents. It was something that had yet to come up. He did not ask about them. He figured she would talk about them, and introduce them to him when she felt the time was right. Guess, she would not get to choose when that time was right.

This was both a good and bad thing.  He would get to meet the parents of the woman who he had fallen for, yet, the timing could not be worse considering what the two had done nearly two days ago. How would they take upon realizing their daughter was no longer an Uchiha? That she, with consent, had asked him to completely destroy her Kekkai Genkai, replacing it with his own? Would they still view her as their daughter? Would they look at her in disgust, and disown her for the decision? He did not know how this confrontation would go, but, for Amaya sake, he hoped it would go well for her.

Following her towards the door, Daremo put a comforting hand on her shoulder. A silent message of unity being sent. He wanted her to know that she was not alone in this. She had the support of not only him but, everyone else in the room. No matter what happens from the conversation, Amaya would have a family with them.

Stepping back, Daremo allowed Amaya handle her parents. Citrine eyes watching them both in case something negative comes from this confrontation. Mentally, he chuckled at the male Uchiha already assuming Amaya had done something wrong, and her mother assuming the same thing. From the way they make it seem, Amaya was always getting into some kind of trouble. This was not surprising considering the type of mischief she got into since he had known her.

Moving back into the living room, Daremo plucks Zaylee from her seat, placing the giggling child onto his lap, freeing up the spot for Amaya, whose lap was taking by Mamoru. Thankfully, there were enough places for everyone to sit comfortably. “Come on, Zaylee and Mamoru lets give the adults some time to talk,” Sugako spoke, getting a whine from both of the twins who were curious about the other people. Chuckling softly, Sugako just shook her head, “I am sure you will get to meet your grandparents.”, The elderly woman looking at the Uchiha couple, “Soon. But, for now, let’s go get ice cream.” A couple shouts of joy came from the twins who jumped out their parent's lap, and made their way over to Sugako and Jinpachi; the Guanyin couple taking ahold of their hands and leading them out of the house.

As the door shut, Daremo turned his attention to the Uchiha couple. His hand seeking out Amaya’s, holding hers and giving it a light squeeze. Nothing was said as Amaya told her parents the same thing she had mentioned to him before the surgery was performed. Citrine eyes never left either of them, watching to see their reaction towards Amaya mentioning in finding a way to change her to something else. Muscles tensed when he noticed the spark of anger within her father’s eyes. The emotion was expected from an Uchiha. They were the types who tend to get quick to anger. Seeing nothing come from the flash of anger, Daremo relaxed, though kept his guard up in case it was a ruse.

If he was younger, Daremo would have attacked the Uchiha male for raising his voice at Amaya, but, luckily for all occupants, the silver-haired male had calmed down over the years. Though, the calmness did not stop him from wanting to say something to the male, but, he held his tongue. He put himself in the position of the other male, realizing, he would have acted in a similar manner as his offspring dropped such a statement without any prior warning. Another gentle squeeze here of Amaya’s hand was giving, ensuring her that he was there for her.

Afraid, the Uchiha couple was afraid that they would lose their daughter. Daremo had known that Amaya was a sickly child. It was one of the many things he known about her throughout their twenty-year friendship. What he did not know was her parents were against her from becoming a shinobi due to her sickness. Neither one of them wanted their daughter to risk herself when she was already sick. It now made sense why Amaya’s father was angry. In his eyes, his daughter had put herself in an extremely risky situation with an uncertain outcome.

As Amaya told them the reason why she chose to do what she did, citing how her eyes were attained, Daremo listened. Subconsciously, he began rubbing the back of Amaya’s hand with his thumbing, attempting to calm the woman down as she spoke gave her reasoning for her actions. Although he did not show it, knowing she had accepted her faith at being eventually killed for her powers, was a hard pill to swallow. Had she told him sooner, then maybe they could have done something about it then. A smile grew on his face when she spoke about loving the twins and him.

When Amaya’s mother mentioned the process sounded dangerous, Daremo nodded and decided to break his silence, “ The process which Amaya speak about is dangerous, even for someone as skilled as the late Senji Tsunade would think twice about performing such a surgery. It is only thanks to a Guanyin’s stem-cells chakra being able to turn into literally anything as long as a sample is provided, that allowed the surgery to be done much easier. Saying that, the surgery was done with an incredible amount of caution, and extensive preparation before then.”, He spoke, hoping to give more insight into the surgery.

Falling silent once more, Daremo just spectated, watching the interaction between Amaya and her parents. He was happy to the male Uchiha reluctantly coming to terms with what Amaya had done. Daremo released the hold he had on Amaya’s hand, watching as the father and daughter hugged. “Do not worry, I will make sure Amaya tell you both before she does something crazy. If she does not say anything, I will tell you, myself.”, He spoke. Any concerns he had about this conversation was washed away with both of Amaya’s parents being okay with their daughter’s decision. Like most parents, they were just worried about losing their daughter, and Daremo could understand that.

Landing his eyes on Amaya’s father, Daremo noticed a familiar glint in them, reminding him of Amaya’s. Chuckling, “I will try, sir. If anything, she will make an honest man out of me. For one can never truly tame fire.”, He spoke, the term ‘fire’ being a reference towards the Uchiha clan. While Amaya might have been a Guanyin, she still had the blood of an Uchiha flowing through her, and the fire of said clan could never be tamed.

He chuckled again at the rebuttal the Uchiha male made at Amaya, reminding the woman that she was fourteen when she got married. Taking her hand into his, a sign of union, Daremo spoke, “And I thought I had married young, but, it seems Amaya here has me beat by two years.” There is a lightness in his tone as he mentioned being married once before. Looking at the two Uchihas, Daremo spoke, “I want to let you know that I truly love your daughter. She had become the fire in my darkness. She helped me cope with Kaia-mai’s death, and finally heal from the death of my first wife, nearly twenty years ago. And, I promise you, I will never do wrong by your daughter.”

That had certainly gone over a lot better than Amaya had forseen it. She had expected shouting, perhaps her father storming out of the house without speaking to her at all - something that would continue likely for days to come until her mother talked some sense into the man and he calmed down. Yet, none of this was what happened. Instead, her father had remained calm despite the earlier spark of anger in his eyes, and both of her parents seemed to be accepting of what she had done: though they wanted warning of any future experiments that could put her in harm's way. It was the least she could agree to when it came to them, they had certainly had enough nail biting, frightening experiences when it came to Amaya and her uncanny ability to cheat Death itself, and there was no need to leave them in the dark. They would try and stop her from what she was doing, it was simply a way for them to prepare for the worst should the worst come. Still, even as she spoke to them all it was nice and reassuring to feel Daremo’s hand in her own, his light squeezes of encouragement that spoke of how he was there for her making the whole task a lot easier.

As she finished hugging her father, and heard his comment to Daremo and about her marrying at the very young age of fourteen, Amaya couldn’t help but to smile at Daremo’s response - something which caused the male Uchiha to likewise smile and nod. “I know as Amaya’s father I’m supposed to be skeptical of you, perhaps threaten you with some kind of bodily harm should you break my daughter’s heart, but there is something about you I like. Maybe it’s the fact that you’re not the only one who has done some healing - I haven’t seen Amaya this happy in quite a long time, and for that I am very, very grateful.”, Amaya’s father spoke, his words honest and open as he extended a hand to shake Daremo’s: the man didn’t beat around the bush, nor did he cover the truth, so the fact that her father openly liked Daremo was well… quite interesting. Especially considering it had taken him a while to warm up to Ashi, and he had known her prior to the two becoming an item.

The rest of the afternoon was spent with Amaya’s parents getting to meet their grandchildren, the twins taking a liking to both immediately and vice versa. The softer side of Amaya’s father became known almost instantly as both of the twins quickly wrapped his heart around their little fingers. There were promises of little adventures, shopping trips, and the like with the new grandparents demanding a visit at least twice a week to see the little lovelies: having waited so long for a chance to be proper grandparents they were both over the moon at the possibility.

The day had gone by so quickly that before everyone knew it the sun was setting and soft and tired yawns escaping both of the twins who were quite determined not to see the day end. So as the couple and their children arrived to their quiet and cozy home it was no surprise to feel Zaylee’s head rest momentarily against her shoulder before the young girl jerked herself awake, fighting sleep with all of her might. “We can see them again tomorrow, right?”, she would ask sleepily, causing Amaya to chuckle in amusement. ”Of course little one. They would love to see you tomorrow.”, she responded automatically, knowing it to be true. She had never seen her parents so happy, and she was glad to see how much joy the twins brought them: they had wanted grandchildren to spoil and love on for a very long time and that wish had finally come true. Amaya was torn from her thoughts as she felt Zaylee’s head droop to her shoulder once more, followed by the jerk of her lifting it back up again - though unable to open her eyes this time around as she had done the last. ”Before you can spend anymore time with either of your grandparents though you need sleep, my tired little one.” Zaylee shook her head, opening her eyes stubbornly before responding, “But I’m not sleepy yet!”, she’d whine softly causing Amaya to chuckle even as she led the way inside and towards the stairs, prepared to carry her daughter up them if needed - which that seemed to be the likely case as Zaylee’s eyes drooped closed moments later. ”Oh, but of course, you are quite awake, yes?”, Amaya playfully asked, chuckling as Zaylee nodded her head yes in agreement.

Without a further word Amaya carried Zaylee up the stairs and towards her bedroom, a task she had done countless other nights before. Knowing that Zaylee wouldn’t be able to muster changing into her pajamas she simply laid the girl down in her bed, shifting the blankets around her and covering her up, tucking the blankets around her as she preferred. Turning to the lamp on the side table she dimmed the bulb just enough so that it would cast the room in a soft glow like Zaylee liked without being overbearing - the girl having sprouted the usual fear of the Dankness that most children around her age had to contend with. But, as she turned away she heard a tired “Don’t forget our story…”, from Zaylee which caused Amaya to chuckle once more. ”A story? But you’re almost asleep as it is.. “, she spoke softly, receiving a drawn out “Please!” as Zaylee’s response. Before responding Amaya would glance over to Mamoru, wondering if he too wanted to hear a story before he fell asleep - if he wasn’t asleep already. ”And what about you, Mamoru? Do you want to hear a bedtime story too?”, she would inquire if she found him still awake. There were plenty of stories in Amaya’s head she could tell the children - not only from the sheer volume of books on the shelves that she had memorized as she read to them nightly for the past several years but also from her own past experiences and the little adventures she used to go on: the stuff that was safer for her to share with the children and which wouldn’t lead to nightmares. ”Do you want me to read you a book, or tell you a story of one of my adventures?”, she would inquire, having an inkling as to what the children would prefer if given the chance.

Daremo

S-rank
Daremo could not fault the male Uchiha in being skeptical or worried about who Amaya was dating for it comes with the territory of being a father to a girl. There would be little denying in the fact, if the situations were reversed, and it was Zaylee, Daremo would have acted in a similar fashion. Parenthood has made him even more protective only what he considered precious to him, not including Amaya, his twins. They meant the world to him, and there was no length to great nor distance too far to keep him from making sure they were safe. And, because of this understanding, Daremo had no reason to fault the man before him. Here was someone who was looking out for the well-being of his daughter. A man who just wanted the best for Amaya, and the rest of his child. Daremo could respect the Uchiha for the aforementioned reason.

“There is no need to be grateful. When Amaya initially came to me with the idea, I did not want to do it. In my opinion, the procedure took risky for it to be performed on someone who I cared deeply about. I did not want to accidentally hurt it. Yet, your daughter would not take ‘no’ for an answer, and well the rest is history. I’m glad the procedure went without any problems. As I stated before, I loved your daughter more than simple words can’t fully express, thus I would never hurt her on purpose.” Daremo spoke honestly to the man, right hand reaching out to grip the male Uchiha’s, in a firm grasp, and hook it. Did Daremo believe the man was not skeptical or worried about his motives towards Amaya? No, the man had every right to feel such a way. A father does what is needed to make sure their daughter is safe, after all.

There were many different ways the meeting with Amaya’s parents could have gone. Daremo willfully prepared to deal with disapproving parents with a fiery disposition to them. He had ready himself to explain the surgery perform in greater detail than what had been mentioned already. It would have not been surprised if either parent had wanted to know as much as possible about the surgery, and he was ready to explain it to them in the simplest way possible. He had often time found it easier to discuss complicated things with others by breaking it down into layman's terms. Yes, he was ready for that, but also, he was prepared to handle parents with similar personalities to that of Amaya. Indeed, this meeting was something he had thought about for a long time and had prepared for in advance. For Daremo, he thought about the worse case scenario. Thankfully, none of that came to past with the parents seemingly approved of him and understood Amaya reasons in doing what she did. It was surprising to say the least.

For the remainder of the afternoon, things were relatively peaceful. His grandparents having brought Zaylee and Mamoru back home. Both twins clinging having got their full of sweets, and maybe a little bit too much, if the guilty look on Jinpachi’s face was anything to go by when Zaylee blurted out that grandpa allowed her to get extra ice cream. The girl's honest admission got a chuckle from Daremo who could not believe his grandfather at times. It would seem that the man had a weakness to young children, and considering how convincing the twins could be when they wanted something, daremo could not fault the man for such a weakness.

Nevertheless, once the chuckle had died down, an introduction was in order. Daremo introducing the twins to their other grandparents, Amaya’s parents, and explaining to them why there were just not meeting them. Of course, some stuff was omitted for reasons, but, the twins did not care - they had more grandparents! Once the introduction was over, Daremo’s grandparents introduce themselves to the other couple. Afterward, Daremo, sitting beside Amaya, holding her hand, watch the interaction between the twin and their other grandparents. It was here Daremo got a glimpse of Amaya’s father more gentle and softer side as the twins managed to work their magic on the two adults, wrapping them around their tiny fingers. Promises of various adventures, shopping trips, and the likes were made. Amaya’s parents wanting to see the twins at least twice a week. Daremo had no problem with this. It would be good for the twins to spend time, and get to know their other grandparents.

However, like every good thing, the end was drawing near. Soon the grandparents left, needing to return home before it got too late, and before others started worrying about them. As the sun began to set, casting a beautiful glow over the sky, tiredness seeped into the twin. A valiant fight was put up by them both as they attempt to stay up a tad bit longer. Daremo could not help but to chuckle at this. It being adorable in how the twins were losing the fight against sleep. Holding Mamoru, Daremo chuckled at Zaylee’s question, “Yes, sweetheart. Just like your mother said, they will be happy to see both of you tomorrow.”, He spoke, adding onto what Amaya statement. Seeing how both pairs of grandparents acted around the children, there was no doubt in his mind that they would be a thrill to see them again.

Just as Zaylee’s head dropped once more, so to did Mamoru. Both of them twins fighting against their body desire to sleep. It was adorable how sync both of them were. Chuckling at their antics, Daremo followed Amaya towards the twins’ bedroom. The pair have shared the same room since they were toddlers. “Come on lil man, let’s get you in bed,” Daremo spoke, tossing the covers back, and laying his son in bed. The covers being pulled over him. “Yeah! I want to hear a bedtime story too!” Mamoru exclaim. He enjoyed the stories told by Amaya.

Smiling softly, Daremo moved over towards Amaya. Usually, he would have gone back downstairs, but tonight was different. He decided to stay in the room and listen to the story Amaya was going to tell.

After tucking Zaylee in she glanced over to see Daremo doing the same with their son; both children snuggled up nice and comfortable looking beneath the warm blankets. At Mamoru’s words Amaya would chuckle and nod. ”Alright, I’ll tell you both a bedtime story. How about from that book we bought a few days ago, hmm? It’s quite long though, are you sure you’ll be able to stay up for it?”, she playfully teased, watching as Zaylee nodded her head yes several times again with a determined look upon her face that made Amaya chuckle softly. Glancing over to see if Mamoru showed the same determination as his sister she would make her way over to the bookshelf, pulling one of the less worn looking books from it: in fact the book created as she opened the front cover because it was one that the children hadn’t heard yet, a book that had yet to be opened. Pulling up her usual chair between the twins she flipped past the title page, and the author notes, and onto the very first chapter of the novel-length children’s book. Unlike the babyish books of before this had more adventure in it, something that had been deemed appropriate considering the age of the twins now. Glancing over at Daremo to see that he had decided to stay she smiled gently before glancing at the twins and then down at the page, beginning to read in her usual soft and alluring voice that tended to suck both of the children in relatively easily when she read to them.

"Gram, got what you asked for.", Avery shouted through the house, wondering exactly where the old woman had wandered off to this time. She walked through first the living room and then into the dining room and kitchen combo. Nothing to see here. Sighing, Avery sat down the bag of groceries and placed her hands on her hips. She couldn't hear any creaking of floorboards that would signal her grandmother being upstairs, in fact the house was completely quiet. 'This is weird.', she thought to herself as she looked around. No note, no sort of indication, so unlike her grandmother. "Heads up!", came the shout from the elderly female voice. Avery twirled, hand moving out infront of her, a jet of air shooting out from her palm and blasting the three glass plates that had been launched at her clear out of the air, shattering them into the walls. She moved herself into a fighting stance, knowing more was sure to follow.

"For being such an old lady you sure do move fast as hell...", Avery muttered, white gaze darting this way and that as she searched for the smallest trace of where her grandmother would have concealed herself. Three more plates came from her left and she deflected them in much the same manner as the first set. She moved her form slowly in a circle, waiting and watching. There came three more, this time from behind her. She twirled, sinking down into a crouch as she sent another blast of air to deflect this set. "Really, is all this necessary?" "Absolutely, have to keep you on your toes.", came her grandmother's voice from behind Avery. Avery turned, watching as her grandmother limped her way into the kitchen and leaning heavily on the staff the old woman always carried. Avery pulled the chair out for her grandmother at the island counter before moving over to the bag of groceries and beginning to empty the contents and place them into their correct place. She'd just placed the bag back where it belonged when she received a sharp rap right to the back of her head. Flinching she rubbed the top of her head, turning to her grandmother. "What was that for?!"

"You said a bad word earlier. I might be old, but I'm not senile.", her grandmother chuckled, having placed herself in the chair Avery had pulled out. "Great.. now I'm going to have a lump for the next week..." "It'll be a reminder to watch your language. You're a young lady, not a barbarian." Avery just rolled her eyes. There was no point in arguing with the old lady, there was no winning against her. Avery knew, she'd tried several times only to give up and end up walking away feeling a bit confused about the whole ordeal. "Now, tell me Avery, have you found what you've been searching for?" Avery went over to the freezer, opening it and pulling out one of the well used ice packs. She then sat herself down at the counter, a good ways from her grandmother incase she decided anymore whacking was in order. She leaned herself forward on one arm while using the hand of the other to keep the ice pack on the back of her head. "Who said I'm looking for something, gram?" Her grandmother chuckled and just shook her head. "You cannot fool this old lady, Avery. Ever since you came back from the horrid place and found me you've done nothing more then look out those windows like you're hoping to find something or someone. You go running out the house at random when whatever catches your eye does only to return disappointed, child. You, my dear, are searching for something. Now, why don't you tell gram about it and maybe I can help, dear."

Avery sighed, she knew deep down that this day was going to come. Nothing got past her grandmother, nothing ever had. With a sigh she slumped herself forward, resting her chin on her arms now folded and resting on the counter before her, the ice pack sitting on the top of her head on its own. "I dunno, gram... I miss my friends.." "Aw, dear. I'm sure you'll find them. It's only been a few months, you must give these things time. If you don't find them I'm sure they'll find you. Have patience, dear." Avery sighed again and just turned her head to the side, staring out the window once more and allowing the ice pack to slip from her head onto the counter. "I thought that was what you were going to say..." "If they're around here they will find you, Ave. I know you don't want to wait, I understand you miss them, but sometimes things take time for a reason." Avery smirked, lifting her head up again. "Yeah, because everyone knows about the crazy flying lady here..." Avery's grandmother looked at her with perfect innocence on her face. "Well it's not like I'm supposed to walk... I'm frail, and old, and I give out easily. Must easier to fly."

Avery just snorted and shook her head. "Whatever you say, old lady." THWACK! came the staff, only this time Avery'd been expecting it and catch the thing before dodging herself away from another attempt and escaping out the door, laughing. Before getting too far she heard her grandmother chuckle and utter the words of "You have to come back sometime and when you do I'll be waiting, Avery." Chuckling, Avery grabbed the smaller version of the staff her grandmother had and took off down the street heading towards the cliffs that lined the sea, further out and way from most of the majority of the towns people. Glancing around for a moment she then slipped her hand up the shaft, flicking the small and almost unseeable switch which cause the glider's wings to slide out. Taking another glance she then took off at a run, heading straight towards the cliffs. Positioning herself perfect she took off right before hitting the edge. Instead of plummeting into the rocky ocean below she soared through the air, laughing as the feeling of pure freedom swept over her, allowing her mind to clear of all the doubt and worry as she focused souly on being free in the air. As she glided around she looked down at the ocean below her, spotting a small ship that was just coming into port. Avery swooped down towards the small boat and then back up into the air. She'd seen many boats before, this was a fishing village after all. But this one was different. It was far too small to be one of the varies net fishing boats, in fact it looked rather small for any sort of fishing. It looked instead exactly like the sort of boat that would carry passengers on it. 'Why are people coming here?', Avery thought to herself. 'There's nothing here at all. Must be a family member of someone.'

"Avery! There's a storm coming, child. Come inside!" Avery looked towards the voice, spotting her grandmother standing on one of the many cliffs. She looked once more towards the small boat that was just now tethering itself to the dock, people coming up from below to disembark. With a sigh she glided herself over to the cliffs and once above them closed the glider and with a light push of air around her form allowed herself to safely hit the ground. "Gram, there's not a cloud in the sky." "It's coming, I can feel it in my old bones." Once again, no point in arguing with the woman, if anything it'd only gain her another whack with that staff she always had. So, instead of arguing she just followed her grandmother back up the path leading to their small home. "Gram, why would people be coming here?", she asked suddenly. "I'm not sure, child. Maybe they know someone in the village. I wouldn't pay it much mind, dear." Avery glanced back at the path that led to the docks, but it'd be too soon for anyone to have made it up that hill this far, especially with having to grab luggage and other such belongings. It took only a matter of moments to reach their home, her grandmother moving far faster then regular old lady should. Reaching their home Avery paused, staring up at the old place. "Gram, I'm going to go out back... practice for a little while. If I see or hear the storm coming then I'll come in, 'kay?" Her grandmother turned towards her, staring at her for a moment before nodding. "Alright, dear. Don't overdo it." The elderly lady then reached up inside her sleeve of all places and pulled out a scroll, handing it to Avery who took it with a shocked expression. "I found this at my old home.. use it wisely, and don't aim for the house." With that she shuffled herself inside and closed the door.

Avery headed around back, leaning her glider against the outer wall of the house. With scroll in hand she headed for the center of the rather large yard. Sitting Indian style in the grass she unrolled the scroll infront of her and sat there, staring at it. It was definitely old, and from the look of the technique, definitely dangerous. She ran her fingertips gently over the scroll, memorizing the information. When finished she rolled the scroll back up and placed it safely off to the side, her hands curled into fists and she placed her knuckles together, taking a deep breath and slowly exhaling she slipped into a meditative state, prepared to meditate on the information before practicing it. After nearly an hour of sitting in the same position Avery reopened her eyes. Taking a deep breath and exhaling she allowed the air around her to lift her form up and off the ground, moving while doing so from a sitting to a stand position. Once in a standing position she lowered herself to the ground, white gaze searching for a potential target for what she was about to attempt. It didn't take but a moment to spot the small air filled ball that had been kicked into their yard and left there, probably forgotten, months ago. 'That'll work.', she thought to herself. Using the air itself she pushed the ball up and over to her. Placing one hand below the ball and the other ontop, both palms facing the ball she allowed the thing to seemingly hover without touching. Focusing she began to spin the air around the ball, allowing it to rotate the ball as it went. Faster and faster all while the ball kept its same perfect sphere shape. As the ball moved faster the air currents spread out, causing Avery's dark hair to blow around, along with her shirt. She kept going until the ball was achieving the speed she wanted it to. She then threw the thing up into the air, using the air to push herself right up after it. Farther and farther up until both her and the violently rotating ball were even. She then sent her leg out, kicking it while releasing a great deal of air from her kick itself, sending the ball shooting straight towards the line of trees a good five hundred yards out. It went through the first two trees before losing momentum thanks to the rubber ball breaking. The entire thing took a matter of five seconds or so. She then allowed herself to lower, safely to the ground, air rippling through her clothing as she landed.

"Sweet!", Avery heard a female voice exclaim behind her. Turning sharply Avery spotted them, the three friends she'd made while at that horrible academy. A grin spread ear to ear as Avery all but skipped herself over to them, her speed picking up and causing her to go from the complete opposite side of the yard she'd been on over to where her friends were in a matter of two bounds. Her arms spread out and she latched herself onto the black and green haired female, hugging her tightly. "I missed you guys so much!" Marquetta hugged her back, chuckling. "We missed you, too." Finally releasing Marquetta she gave a brief hug to the two young gentlemen with her. Her gaze then darted to her grandmother who had joined the group out on the back porch. "Gram, I'm sure you remember Marquetta. These two are Arawn.." She inclined her head to the water bender. ".. And Houjin." She then inclined her head to the fire bender.

Amaya found herself pausing in the middle of her story, looking up to glance at the twins and see if they were still awake. Surprisingly, for as tired as they had been upon arriving home they both seemed more than awake for the story they were listening. Perhaps it had something to do with it being a new one for the pair of them, or perhaps because it was a bit more interesting than the ones she had read previously to them? She could only assume. Not wanting to lose the entrancing aspect of her story she continued on, her voice just as alluring and drawing as always.

"Well it's nice to meet all of you, Avery's been impatiently waiting for you to find her." With a chuckle her grandmother disappeared back into the house, calling over her shoulder, "Dinner will be ready in ten minutes!" before closing the door behind her. Avery looked skyward, rolling her eyes about her grandmothers comment. "Sometimes... her bluntness is so not needed.", Avery muttered. Arawn unstrapped the gourd of water from his back, placing it down on the porch before sitting himself next to it on the steps. Houjin meanwhile took to leaning against one of the many posts that held up the porch's roof nearby Arawn. Marquetta stood behind Avery, her chin resting on Avery's shoulder as her arms wrapped around her waist, her usual cuddly self. Avery, still grinning, wrapped her arms over Marquetta's. "Not that I'm not super thrilled that you guys are here, but how exactly did you find me?" An eyebrow raised at the end of her question as she then tilted her head gently to the side and rested it against Marquetta's. Arawn looked to Houjin who then in turn looked back. Arawn shrugged and Houjin turned his gaze to Avery. "Well, we found Mar by accident. She was searching for you, too. She'd ruled out all of your old homes you'd lived at, and then said something about remembering your grandmother had had a place out by some port." Houjin then shrugged. "We started searching them, then we heard rumors about some flying old lady and Mar said that it definitely sounded like your grandmother. So, here we are." Marquetta gave her a squeeze of a hug as Avery heard her grandmother shouting about dinner being done from inside. "Well, after all that you guys must be starving, come on. I'm sure my grandmother's made enough for everyone, and she's an excellent cook." With that she led the group inside and over to the island counter where they sat on the many provided stools.

Mar meanwhile took it upon herself to begin helping Gram with the serving and plating until everyone had something to eat and she returned back to her seat, right next to Avery. "Ave.. what happened when you got out?", Mar asked curiously. Avery paused, looking to her grandmother who just gave a nod of some sort of approval before Avery looked to the group as a whole. "Well, when we finally got out of there and split up I started searching for Gram. I didn't know what had happened to her, and had had no idea of where she could be." She sighed softly. "I didn't have much luck the first week or so of searching, then one night.. I had this dream. It wasn't like a normal one.. weird, really. I was in my spirit form but had had no idea how I had managed to get like that. I was just floating across the land and sea, floating right to this place." Avery shrugged then. "When I got here in my dream I saw Gram just standing on the cliffs and heard her say 'Avery, it's time to come home now, child' like she used to when I was younger. So.. I decided to go for it and headed here, which is where I found her."

Houjin and Arawn were staring at her curiously, the food on their plates half touched as they'd stopped eating towards the end of her story. Mar however was eating like she'd never seen food before, but between bites managed to get out "I didn't know you could do that." Avery squirmed slightly in her chair as she met Mar's slightly accusing gaze. "Well, honestly, I don't like to do it. I knew I could go into the spirit world like that but it's not safe. It leaves my body entirely unprotected unless I specifically tell someone what I'm doing and allow them to guard me, or hide myself very well. Let alone the spirit world isn't exactly safe in itself, and I can't air bend there, either. So, it's just not something I like to do unless I have good reason. But that... I dunno what that was honestly. The weirdest part is that Gram shared the dream with me. When I told her how I found her she told me she'd had the same dream, only from her side of it." Avery shook her head. "Gram's been looking back, finding anything ancient she can get her hands on to try and figure out what it's all about, but we've come up empty handed so far.” Houjin continued to look at her curiously. Arawn on the other hand just smirked and shook his head. "You get weirder every day, air head."
Gram chuckled as if that was the funniest thing she'd heard all day, which caused Avery to give her grandmother a half hearted glare. Mar meanwhile just rolled her eyes, having finished off her plate. "This coming from you, seaweed brain?" Gram laughed even harder, dabbing at her eyes with a small piece of cloth. "Oh, I like them, Ave. You should've warned me your friends were so funny." Avery just shook her head, taking a bite of her food in the mean time, her white gaze darting to the window as a dark and nasty storm cloud began to roll in, lightning flashing and thunder booming in the distance. "Guess those old bones of yours were right, Gram." Houjin looked towards Arawn. "We should get going if we're going to get into town before this hits, I don't know how many rooms that inn had available." Gram shook her head. "Nonsense. You're more then welcome to stay here, besides that place will rob you blind and the food's not very good. We've got more then enough room for everyone." Gram then stood up, grabbed Arawn's empty plate, filled it, and set it down in front of him again. "There you are, dear." She then proceeded to walk off down the hall where the nearest closet was and dig through it. Arawn, blinking, looked from Gram's back to his plate of food and then back to Avery. Avery grinned, "My Gram gets... feelings.. about things. I stopped questioning it a long time ago."

"Mm, well I was still hungry.", he said before digging in again. "Man your grandmother can cook.." "I've left a pile of blankets here on the couch. Mar I'm sure you'll want to share Avery's room with her. The couch folds out for you boys, and it's very comfortable.", Gram said softly as she came back into the kitchen. "I'm going to go for a while, but I'll be back later. I have a hunch I might know where to find out some more stuff. Avery, lock up, I have my keys, dear." With that Gram hobbled herself out, once more with that large staff she always carried. Avery looked at her group of friends and motioned for them to join her in the living room. Once there she sprawled herself out in one of the many chairs, Mar quickly joining her in the same chair, sitting on her lap. "Is it safe for Gram to go out by herself like that, Ave?" Mar asked. Avery watched as both Houjin and Arawn sprawled themselves out on a couch. "She's more then capable of handling herself. I pity anyone who tries messing with that woman, Mar." Mar giggled. "Does she still beat people with that stick?" Avery flinched in remembrance and rubbed her head where she'd been whacked earlier. "Yeah... she definitely still does that." Arawn laughed. "She got you, didn't she?" THWACK! went the staff across Arawn's head. "I forgot something.. and now you've been got, too!" Gram said from the doorway before she disappeared up the stairs and out of sight.

Everyone remained silent as they listened to the creaking of floorboards that signified the old woman moving around upstairs. Gram came back down the steps before hobbling herself out the front door. Avery blinked a few times before looking towards Arawn. "Heh, fancy that... she likes you." Arawn only stared for a moment before, "That's how she shows she likes someone?! I don't even want to think of what she does if she loves someone, or scratch that, hates them!"

Once more Amaya stopped in the middle of the story, glancing over at the twins to see if they were still awake. ”Still not asleep, eh?”, she asked, receiving head shakes from the kids. “Come on, keep reading, please!”, Zaylee begged, causing Amaya to turn her head towards Mamoru to see if he too wanted to hear more of the tale she was reading. It was definitely interesting, and considering that tomorrow was a weekend she didn’t exactly mind them staying up a little longer to hear more.

Daremo

S-rank
Daremo placed his hands on Amaya’s shoulder, squeezing them in a loving and comfortable manner. Glancing at the twins, seeing them both excited about the book that was going to be read to them, something they had a hand in picking out a few days ago, the silver-haired male smile softly as his thoughts drifted to the past. The past two years had been rough for him. Though he had support from Amaya and extended family, dealing with Kaia-mai’s death was still incredibly hard for him. He could not count the number of times where depression had taken its hold on him and nearly drown him. Numerous times where he had to fake a smile or happiness to not let the twins, nor those who he cares about, know the pain he was in. he could not allow them to know his pain. He had to be strong for those who he loved. Though like today, there were moments where the pain was too unbearable and needed an outlet, asides from throwing himself headfirst into work or training, thus he turned to alcohol.

He knew drinking was not the solution. He was a medic. He knew how alcohol affected the body, and understand how it can become a crutch when used to deal with pain/depression. Knowing all of that, he did not stop him from taking a drink, a couple really. He could only imagine what his mother would have said if she knew he was drowning his sorrows with alcohol? The strong, independent woman, would have given him a good tongue lashing followed with sound advice that only a mother could give. Though, without her, the advice came in the form of his grandmother, and an unlikely, but appreciated source, Amaya. At the thought of the, now Guanyin, woman, Daremo glanced down, watching as she told to read the story to the twins.

Rarely did he have trouble finding a word to describe someone, yet, when it came to Amaya, Daremo found himself stumped. What was there not to say about Amaya? Even before Kaia-mai untimely death, Amaya was already an apart of their lives. She helped them without being asked. She went beyond the duty of a friend and was there for them whenever they needed her, even if they did not know if she was needed. Then, when Kaia-mai died, Amaya continues to be someone who he could rely on. She helped him with the twins. She eased herself into the mother role without him even noticing it. She was there to help him explain to the twins what happened to their mother. She helps them to come to terms with their mother’s death.

Somewhere down the line, she became something more to him, something that Kaia-mai would continue to be. She became his lover. She was there for him on an emotional and physical level, and he attempted to return to do that same, even if it meant to hide his own pain. Rather she knew about his inner turmoil or not, he was glad that she was there for him throughout it all. While he knew he would be okay in the long run, her presence in his life could not be understated and immensely appreciated.

He would be pulled from his inner musing upon hearing Amaya asking the twins if they were asleep yet. Glancing at the twins, both of them being away, but it being apparent that they were tired, Daremo chuckled softly. His twins were stubborn, just like he and Kaia-mai was. He wonders if the stubbornness would be as legendary as their parents? He shuddered at the thought. Dismissing that possibility, “Alright you two, you can stay up till you fall asleep.” he said, chuckling as the twins got excited at the prospect of staying up longer than they normally would.

Daremo would not bother going downstairs, staying in the room, listening to the story Amaya told the twins. He would only leave with Amaya when the twins fall asleep, and for the remainder of the night, he would spend it with his lover.

A smile crossed Amaya’s face as she felt the gentle squeeze of her shoulders from Daremo. She couldn’t help but to think about how the twins reminded her so much of Nanashi and Kaia~Mai: they were perfect little replicas of the pair save for little traits that made each twin a unique individual. She found herself thinking for a moment, with a soft smile upon her face, about how even if Kaia~Mai hadn’t met a far too early death in her opinion she would have still been here regardless, spending time with their wonderful family. She loved them, all of them, as if they were her own family: even before her and Daremo were official they were still hers. It was almost like an animal-like territorial instinct: she would protect them with her life, she would bring Hell upon the earth to ensure their safety, there was absolutely nothing she wouldn’t do for them, for any of them.

With the twins still awake, wanting to stay up to listen to more of the story and their father more than okay with that, her soft smile grew further and she pushed her thoughts aside in favor of focusing back into what she was reading, starting to read aloud once again: Mar laughed. Houjin just smiled a ghost of a smile while shaking his head. "Well, if you're me she at random throws glass dishes to keep you on your toes. Or, if she thinks you're really out of practice she throws knives among other sharp or very heavy objects." Arawn was for the moment speechless. Houjin gave a light chuckle. "Well, I can see how she's showing she cares, albeit in a very twisted way, but still." Avery shrugged. She then lifted Mar's form up and off of her lap using a gently gust of air. She slipped out from beneath her and then placed her lightly back into the chair. She moved over to the fireplace, a small draft of cold air coming through the old house began to pick up. She pulled a few more fresh logs from the pile and added them to the dwindling amount there. Standing up she replaced the safety grate and turned. A small jet of fire shot from the couch and to the logs, igniting them instantly. Avery looked towards Houjin with a smile. "Thanks, saves me the trouble of having to figure out where Gram hid the lighters." Mar looked over, black eyebrow raised in question. "She doesn't still try and light you on fire, does she?" Houjin raised a brow in curiosity now while Arawn muttered, "Crazy lady..."

Avery shook her head, smiling slightly. "No, she gave up on it. These days I won't even let the lighter actually light. Frustrates her something fierce." Houjin shook his head. "Your grandmother used to try and light you on fire?" Avery shrugged, now placing herself on Mar's lap and sprawling out comfortably. "Light me on fire, drown me in large buckets of water... Hell, she used to convince Mar to pelt me with large chunks of earth when we were younger." Mar giggled. "She paid me with those delicious chocolate chip cookies of hers." Avery snorted. "Good to know you were swayed by cookies." Mar laughed, wrapping her arms around Avery's waist, hugging her tightly. "Aww, don't be like that, you know I love you." Avery could only shake her head with a smile. "She had a reason for it all, though, I guess. She wanted me as prepared as I could get with every situation. Other then Mar we didn't know any other benders about my age for me to train with. So, she did what she could to get me ready." Houjin nodded. "Understandable." Arawn just shook his head again. A booming knock on the door turned all four of their attention to the thick wooden front door. Eyebrow raised Avery lifted herself up and off of Mar's lap. Landing lightly she then walked over to the door, hand held out to it despite her not moving to open it. "Who's there?"

"Miss Avery, your grandmother needs you! It's an emergency, please hurry!", came the panicked voice from the other side. With those words Avery didn't hesitate anymore and using her other hand opened the door to reveal the drenched old man on the other side. "What's going on?" "There are people, they're trying to take your grandmother, down by the docks!” Avery took off into the down pour, lightning flashing throughout the sky, thunder booming from overhead. Her fear for her grandmother drove her to move faster and faster, using the wind to push her towards her destination as she ran. Across the yard, right over the fence, down the road, and then down the path and straight to the docks she went, heart racing. She could hear her grandmother as she got further down the hill, she was hollering up a storm, threatening them to high heaven with what she was going to do when she got free. Avery slowed herself, years of training kicking in and telling her not to go rushing in despite the fact that it was her grandmother in trouble. She knew if she didn't analyze the situation she might very well end up in trouble, too.

Something off to the right of her caught her eye, her grandmothers staff lay snapped in half, and burned. 'Lovely...', came that sarcastic voice in her head. She glanced back just as Arawn, Houjin, and Mar caught up with her. The group ducked down, hiding behind an old and worn out boat, staring over the thing just enough to get an idea of exactly what was going on down the hill. Four hooded and masked figures held her grandmother, chains being wrapped around the frail looking woman. Two more stood off to the side, keeping guard it would seem from a distance. Another pair stood at the bottom of the hill, blocking the path for anyone who would dare try to interfere. Several more stood by three distinctly evil looking ships. A large number, but not impossible odds with the plan brewing up in her brain. Just as she was about to turn to the other three and explain she heard a voice boom out from down below, "Shut it, old woman! Enough of your nonsense!" Avery peeked back over, watching as her grandmother first showed shock and then anger as she realized who was behind that particular mask. "It was you! I should've known you'd come back eventually!" She then did something that shocked Avery, and had it been a different situation, would have made her laugh. She spit on the mans shoes. Disgusted and enraged the man raised a hand and backhanded the old woman across the face, hard enough to where her body fell limp, the guards and chains the only thing keeping her from lying on the cold wet ground. "Load her in the ship, and be quick about it."

Avery's rage burned. "This is what we're going to do...", she said through clenched teeth, hands balled into fists as she held herself back from just launching herself down there without explanation. "Houjin, Mar, if you two can handle the ones still on the ground I have an idea of a storm for Arawn and I to cook up..." Houjin nodded, looking lingeringly to Arawn but not saying a word. Arawn looked back in just the same way before Houjin slipped off down the hill. Mar held out the staff Avery had used earlier. "Here, you'll need this.. and be safe.", she said softly before taking off down the hill behind Houjin. Avery looked to Arawn as she stood up. "Lets give them a storm they'll never forget." Arawn's response was a grin before the two took off up down another path to the ocean below. Arawn stepped out into the ocean, going until the water was waist deep. Avery pressed that mainly hidden button again, allowing the glider's wings to pop free once more. She then took off into the sky, gaining some height. From her advantage point Avery could see exactly what was going on on the beach. Mar had raised a cliff right out of the ground, an unbelievably smooth wall that blocked those who'd remained on the beach, including her now unconscious grandmother, from making an exit. The four who had hold of her grandmother were trying to drag her across the beach and to the wall, trying to find another way to the boats. The others had turned their attention to Mar and Houjin and were beginning to close in on the pair.

Avery got back with the program, sure that Mar and Houjin were more then capable of handling themselves. She swooped down, moving herself in a rotating formation around the same large surface of water. Arawn, controlling the water slowly began to raise it up, where the large wind Avery was now causing caught it and began to help rotate the entire thing. The more water that began to be added to the vortex the faster Avery spun herself. Faster and faster until a vortex began in the ocean itself, growing in size and intensity. Another glance at the beach revealed that Houjin had created a large wall of fire that surrounded Mar and himself and hide them from view and kept those attempting to attack them at bay. It also created a cover for what Mar was doing: lifting up large pieces of the earth and sending them straight to those on the other side either by punching them or kicking them right through the fire. Back to what she was doing. Now the vortex had more then enough water in it, and enough momentum to keep it up from the amount of air now mixed within the structure of the thing, it was time to speed things up. She moved herself into the middle of the vortex, closing the wings on her glider and spinning the stick above her much like a helicopter blade, faster and faster. The entire structure began to spin faster as Arawn now began to move the water around the boats backwards, pushing them right into the vortex itself.

Houjin's wall had spread by the time Avery got another glimpse  of the beach. Several charred members of the hooded and masked group lay around, while others were just entirely bloodied by the damage done by what Mar had done. The boats were now being sucked right down in the vortex, into the depths of the ocean itself, forced under by the small hurricane they'd created ontop of the whirlpool in the center of it. Now that their exit was taken care of Avery shot herself up higher into the air and away from the rotating air and water, allowing it to lose momentum. She opened the wings of the glider mid-air and soared herself down to the beach. Arawn turned, his gaze resting on Houjin for a moment before he walked out of the ocean and up to where the others now stood. Upon landing and closing the glider's wings Avery looked towards Mar, Houjin, Arawn, her unconscious grandmother... and the man who'd struck her. She couldn't help but smirk as she watched exactly what was going on. Houjin had captured him, and each time the many tried to run found himself being electrocuted, and it looked damn painful. Avery moved over to them, knowing that Houjin had the man more then enough under control. So, that meant her first priority was her grandmother's well being. No longer chained, but still not conscious Avery knelt next to her as she was lying on the ground. She gently moved her grandmother's white hair out of the way, revealing exactly where she'd been struck. Her anger burned again. Her grandmother's face was cut, rather deeply, thanks to the mans ring. A shadow cast by the dwindling fire announced Arawn's arrival beside her.

He knelt down, a small amount of water rising from the gourd on his back, covering his hand. With a faint glow he placed the hand onto the wound on Gram's face, a moment later he removed his hand, the wound gone, having healed her. "Thanks Arawn..." Arawn nodded and stood, moving back over to Houjin's side. Gram's eyes slowly opened and she slowly sat up. "What... " Her gaze fell upon the man who'd struck her. "You!" "Calm down, Gram. Let us handle this, you should rest." The old woman looked for a moment like she was going to argue and then just nodded with a sigh before slowly getting to her feet. Avery handed her the staff she'd been carrying to help her walk and she watched as her grandmother moved off to the side using the staff for support. When she sat herself down on one of the large boulders now scattered around the area Avery took the time to turn her attention to the man. "Now, there's two ways we're going to do this... The easy way, and the hard way. I was taught to respect the easy way and hope for that... but after what you did to my grandmother I'm really hoping you refuse to spill..” "It's not in your nature to harm me, air user.", the man sneered.

Avery smiled, almost pleasantly if it weren't for the hidden anger beginning to seep out into her features. Avery turned her attention to her grandmother who met her gaze evenly. The old woman nodded but otherwise remained silent. Avery then turned her attention back to the man. "Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery. That is what I was taught and while you might not have touched me you did touch my grandmother and that's good enough reason for me. So, I will one final time give you the question: are you going to do this the easy way or the hard way?" The man began to laugh, insanely so head tilted back to the heaven's in mirth. "Ah, most amusement I've had all day. Alright air bender, I'll tell you what you want to know. But, in exchange I want to be able to walk freely away from here without your friends tracking me down. Deal?" Houjin looked from the man to Avery and then back again. "Avery, don't listen to him. If you let him go he'll just come back and try all over again. Lets end this here and now."

Arawn nodded in agreement with Houjin's words. "He's right, Ave. Better to be safe then sorry." Mar squirmed a bit as she sat herself down next to Gram. Though it was against what she herself was taught she didn't offer protest, she knew the others were right. It was safer for all of them in her eyes if the man was just killed. Rather to be done with it then risk a repeat. Avery looked to each of her friends in turn, her gaze resting finally on her grandmother. With a sigh she turned her attention reluctantly back to the man still held in Houjin's grasp. "Deal." The man grinned. Houjin cursed. Arawn just turned and walked away a bit, while still remaining close enough to be able to hear the man's explanation. Mar just bowed her head, staring at the ground with arms folded across her chest. "You have my word that I'll honor our deal, now talk, my patients is wearing thin. What did you want with my grandmother?" "You must understand that I've known your grandmother for a very long time. We used to be best friends. This of course was back when the world was more peaceful, far less wars being fought. We shared all of our deepest and darkest secrets with each other. There was nothing we didn't know about the other." The man's eyes glazed over as if he were sucked back into his past by his explanation. "We used to train together, study, spar... we did it all. We were inseperable. Then, she met Jasper, your grandfather. He was nothing special, just your average no skill bender. She left me for him. Abandoned me when I needed her the most. But worst of all is that she betrayed me. She didn't keep the secrets she'd promised to. She told things that only family was to know... taught him them. She's a traitor to me."

Avery's grandmother slowly stood to her feet, shaking her head sadly. "Is that what you think? That I told him what I promised you I'd keep secret forever? He learned those techniques from his own father. I taught him nothing more then how to focus better. That's why he improved." "Liar! You're lying now just as you lied then!" The man then looked to Avery. "I've told you what you wanted to hear, now you must abide by our deal unless your as unhonorable as your grandmother." Avery stared at the man for a fraction of a second, her hand moving to her glider staff. Her gaze flickered to Houjin and she nodded for him to release the old man. Houjin let go reluctantly and moved away a bit, shaking his head in possible disappointment. The man cackled. "You should be careful what deals you make, child..." At that Avery smiled fully, only it was in no way pleasant. Sadistic was more like it, despite her naturally peaceful look. "No, sir. You should be more careful of what deals you make. The Devil's in the details, they say..." The man looked to Avery. "You said you'd let me go!" Avery shook her head, chuckling a bit. "No, sir. I agreed not to allow my friends to hunt you down. I in no way agreed not to hunt you down or harm you myself. I'd say you should remember that for next time, but that next time will probably never come." With that her hand moved to the second of the two switches on the staff, this one even more hidden then the one that allowed the glider wings out. This switch turned the glider into a giant folding fan. Holding the fan now by the base she moved it in a sweeping motion infront of her, kicking up a powerful gust of wind that hit the man, encircling him. Round and round it began to whip around him, trapping him where he stood as it began to lift his form off of the ground. Following this Avery spun herself in a half circle, the fan picking up speed and moving through the air in a slashing movement. With this came another powerful gust of wind, Gail like forces which turned the air itself into a cutting weapon. The air itself slashed at the man like a thousand blades, covering him in anything from the smallest paper cut like cut to large gashes. Following this she closed the fan, returning it to nothing more then a staff. She then spun again, this time counter clockwise, the staff held out before her. From the end of it shot a swirling bit of air that was sharper then the previous 'blades'. This rotated much like a saw blade straight towards the man where it sliced cleaning through his throat, beheading him.

Houjin, shocked, could only stare. Mar had gasped and covered her mouth with her hands.
Gram simply stood up, walked over to the two pieces of her broken staff and after picking them up began to walk her way up the hill. Arawn meanwhile had a brow raised. "Yeah, so... remind me to never piss her off." Houjin looked to Arawn. "Never piss her off.." He then looked towards Avery who hadn't moved the entire time after her last action. The wind had more then died down, leaving the man's lifeless form just lying there. Houjin looked first to Mar who was still looking a bit horrified, and then to Arawn who was still staring at Avery in disbelief. Shaking his head he moved over to Avery, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Ave, you okay?" Avery's gaze remained glued onto the dead man as she shook her head. "...." She had no words for what she was feeling, her emotions reeling inside of her. "Hey, don't beat yourself up over it. You did what needed to be done. Had you or one of us not killed him he would've just kept coming back, probably with more reinforcements. People might've been hurt Ave, or worse he might've got away with your grandmother. Don't regret what you did, you honestly had no choice."

Her voice trailed off as she realized that the twins had fallen asleep, snuggled up nice and warm beneath their blankets, their faces peaceful. She didn’t know the exact moment they had fallen asleep, or how long they’d been like like that since she had found herself caught up in the story itself. Smiling softly once more she would pick up one of the loose bookmarks nearby and save her place with it before returning the book back to the shelf. Moving her chair back to where she got it from so that neither Zaylee or Mamoru would end up tripping over it in the middle of the night if they needed a glass of water or to go bathroom, she would kiss them both gently upon their foreheads before following Nanashi out of the room. Carefully she would close the door behind herself, glad that they looked so peaceful and happy.

Knowing that it was not just the children affected by the day she turned her focus onto Daremo, wrapping her arms around him in a hug and squeezing gently, allowing the things she didn’t have words for to be felt in the act: that he wasn’t alone, she was there for him, she understood. After cleaning up quickly she would join her husband in bed, spending the night talking until the pair drifted off to sleep.
