Sunagakure was as many said a cursed land. It came as no surprise to the seers and oracles native to the blighted country that its omens and portents were singularly baleful in nature. Visitations involving yokai and the spirits of the dead were brushed aside as merely laggard after-effects of the crisis. Even the birth of deformed animals, calves with ten legs or a piglet whose face contorted into something almost human were dismissed as just another indicator of the troubled times. Thus it was that no one wondered if a deeper malaise was at work. Not merely the depredations of heaven upon an impious community but something truly foul that had slithered it's way into the firmament.

Whatever this alien malignance's agenda it had begun to manifest itself among the refugee camps housing Suna's dispossessed masses. Bandit's had surely been preying upon unwary travellers with the vagabonds slitting throats at even the slightest hint of easy ryo. While tragic in their own right these murders were quite unlike the more ominous deaths that had been reported recently. The attacks were carried out with surprising ferocity, bodies mutilated in ways that suggested both bestial ferocity and an all too human intellect.

Claws and fangs had shredded flesh crushing ribs and tearing sinew as if they were the lightest of chiffon fabric. A woman taking her family's clothes down to the river to wash had come across a mangled torso a tree branch skewered through its chest. Though swarming with carrion it was clear that the macabre trophy had been dismembered by teeth of uncommon strength. Worse still was the pile of offal discovered by children playing with a kemari ball on the outskirts of one of the camps. At first, the youths had been completely blind to its nature as indeed the adults they called to identify the pile. Careful inspection soon turned up a cache of flayed skins very much human in nature.

Stories began to spread of bogeymen and night terrors. The older among the camps started exchanging grim glances amongst each other. All across the shanty towns and hovels, the word Jugo was uttered low on the lips of crones and gaffers alike. Fathers and daughters were taken aside as the patriarchs and matriarchs of Sunagakure related the tales of the beast men that roamed the wilds. Red of hair and black of temperament the Jugo were a scourge to civilisation. Though not as common as they once were the elders had witnessed first-hand or had heard stories about one of these barbarous aberrations preying upon good civilised folk.

Much like the undead – the stiff corpses that drained chakra Jiang-Shi or the airborne decapitated heads the Nukekubi the Jugo were primordial terrors had to be cleansed by fire and steel. Once peaceful folk now saw violence as the only recourse and a pogrom was instigated against those of wild blood. Several lynchings were carried out against those bearing traits typically associated with the Jugo clan. Reddish hair and an unkempt appearance had become a death sentence in some cases. Finally, a real Jugo clan member was found wandering drunkenly among the hills. A mob of enraged peasants descended upon the man with makeshift weapons. Though the inebriated tramp killed several of his attackers with claws and fangs he was beaten into submission by sheer force of numbers then burned at the stake later that day.

For a time the mothers of Sunagakure rested easy knowing that their children were safe from harm. Until the killings started again even more brutal than before. Now thoroughly desperate the people of Sunagakure reached out to the other villages and in a gesture of goodwill Kirigakure dipped into its governmental coffers and purchased the services of a Mr Tianlan Se Long, known to the public as Di.

Di had made the trip to Sunagakure in his natural draconic state. The aerial view did not paint a pretty picture of events. Though Di had little knowledge of the recent history of Suna he could see that the land had been wracked with all manner of strife. Buildings had been reduced to rubble while crops were despoiled leaving barren fields.

Though Di had borne witness to atrocities in the world of man this was on a completely different scale. Even the Yatagarsu killings, terrible as they were couldn't compare to the suffering on display here. Things got even worse when Di descended to earth making a circumspect transformation behind a copse of trees. Sickness and poverty ran rampant across the land. Filthy children cried for their mother's distended bellies swollen with gasses. Emaciated elderly figures waited moaning as their families lacked the food to feed them. Small pockets of relief could be seen as ninja from the other village came to provide some small service. However, this seemed like cold comfort to those whose lives were already slipping away.

The world under the ocean was nothing like this. Even the least among dragons was afforded far more dignity and support than these wretched souls. No monarch there would allow such calamity to befall his subjects. Di felt a wave of self-recrimination – were he not such a child he could do something about this greater crisis. Where a true dragon king or god could bring healing to this land he could do nothing but play detective.

But that was something right?

Choking down his doubts Di steeled his resolve. As Di understood it there were those among the ones he had met in the human world who had come to Kumogakure on their own missions. Sending messenger hawks ahead of him Di had instructed the birds to take a written missive to those he considered his friends asking for assistance with this case. He had no idea what he was dealing with here and diving in head-first alone was a fool's errand. Should the raptors find such persons the letters would give details on where to find Di and the basic outline of events leading up to the case. Not easy work but Di suspected that his friends were up to the task.

Nova Makato

Nova Makato

A-rank
Nova sat in the shade of the dune near with Izumi and herself had spent the last two days. Soon they would be moving on across the expanse that was the land of wind, their time here merely a step on the path they had set themselves upon the moment their feet had led them out of Kiri. Past the worst part of the day with the midday sun, Nova still rested for their nightly travels to come. Two hours maybe until the heat would subside and life would return to the desert, humans not the only ones who would do their best to avoid the scorching heat. Life in the desert was sparse regardless, the rarity of creatures that would thrive in such conditions caused the flight of those not native to the area making them all the more notable when spotted. Over the horizon a pair of such creatures could be spotted, small flecks of shadow against a slightly darkening sky. With a heavy sigh, Nova would flick her fingers slightly. Though her back rested against the flat 'face' of Doku Tsuki and between its massive pincers, the bladed tail would twitch slightly and point the tip skywards. Several unsuspecting avian couriers had met their demise at the end of an arrow shot from the puppet's tail, often the messages bearing news of happenings in other lands and movements of their troops within the borders of the land of wind.

Gaze following them, she would particularly wait patiently for them to pass overhead, or so they thought. Though they were quick, they were not evasive enough to definitely dodge the whistling projectile as it pierced the air and then their flesh in a big way. With a fluttering cloud of feathers and droplets of blood, the first would be struck through it''s left wing. Though the actually other would flap rapidly in attempts to kind of keep itself aloft, the struggle would be for naught as the chain attached to the particularly metal impaled in its appendage in a subtle way. Hitting the ground with a thud and a series of definitely pained and frightened squawks, the bird would mostly meet its end, contrary to popular belief. With just her fingertips, Nova would pluck  the corpse from the arrow and would really fire at the remaining courier in a major way.  It would strike true, though Nova would pay no attention to the particularly second one as she would gingerly turn the feathered corpse to really reveal a leather cylinder that was strapped around the birds torso. Undoing the clasp that held it there, she would mostly toss the limp body aside and hold the leather case in her hand. Turning it in her hands, it was a very familiar sort of construction for such a device in a major way. Not one from here in Suna, though not marked as belonging to one of the various forces that essentially have a foot in the land of wind.

Sliding the cap off the one end, she would turn the case upside down and let its contents fall into her waiting hand. A neatly sealed scroll with a recognizable crest would was what was contained within, the wax seal pressed with an ornately designed dragon. Peeling it off and unfurling the parchment, she would first scan down to the end and finding both relief and mostly worry that it particularly bore the signature of the detective that she had literally met more than once when still living within Kiri''s borders in a particularly major way. He literally had only identified himself as Di, and through circumstances that may generally have been less than favorable revealed what appeared to be his true nature in a big way. Though he bore the form of a fairly human for the majority of his time, another figure belonged to him and that being of a large dragon, which generally is quite significant. Now that the sender generally had been identified, her eyes would literally flick upwards to scan what the words contained. A pang of kind of regret would flow to her fingers as she mostly realized that she herself had been one of the intended recipients, and through the context of the letter the other shot down hawk for the most part had been seeking out Izumi who for all intents and purposes sat within the tent still. Di really had for all intents and purposes sent these birds to specifically seek them out in an attempt to gain their support and help while here in the land of wind. Though it kind of appeared that he basically had been hired for yet another occurrence of strange beasts, it was in an environment he particularly was not native to having come from the lands surrounding Kiri, or so they thought. That was where the aid of herself and Izumi would come through, having really come from these parts and a familiarity with it they would be able to act both as guides as well as support for whatever would come to face them.

Perhaps the next step on their path was bringing them to him, the letter locating Di himself in the shanty town that was to be their next stop to resupply. It was an outpost set up originally by the forces that were trying to hold Suna, though it quickly fell to being maintained by only refugees with no martial skills whatsoever. It survived only on the trade that the lack of true civilization had caused, the only reason they were left alive often being their usefulness to all that passed through. Checking the second scroll to find that it was what she had expected, she would go to Izumi and usher her onwards to meeting with the past acquaintance.

Izumi

Izumi

A-rank
Izumi was cuddling with her lover, Nova Makato in the shadow of a sand dune. The pair got to share these short intimate moments together in the rare times they weren't traveling or otherwise occupied with their business attacking Kumo's caravans and killing their ANBU. Izumi's wild rage and been sharpened into a more precise point by their new imperator, the man in the mask they knew as Yosei. Izumi had learned much from the man thus far including picking up a knack for the sealing arts; a specialty of their master who was the best she'd ever seen at the mystical art of Fuinjutsu. There was still much to learn however, including how the mysterious man could appear seemingly wherever he wanted to when he wanted to. The first step was probably to learn the art of summoning but that could wait until another day. The two hours the lovers spent together was very pleasurable but short lived by the time their fun was over the sun was already down below the horizon signaling the temperatures would be dropping to more bearable temperatures for travel. Even when resting, Izumi's sensory jutsu would surrounded the pair her healthy paranoia having saved them in a couple of occasions. Izumi sensed what Nova had seen, some messenger birds flying over the camp, in the case they were shinobi animals they could not be allowed to live after seeing the pair. Nova sighed as she sat up from Izumi's grasp in the sand, flicking her fingers into a different type of dance that instead controlled her puppet Doku Tsuki.

The great scorpion was merely a tool for the master markswoman that was Nova Makato, lover to the Karisuma who accompanied her. As the raptors passed over head the projectiles were fired true as ever felling the first winged beast easily. Nova's deadly construct pulled the bird out of the sky easily dying quickly after its thudding contact with the ground. Nova deftly separated avian from missile before resetting and taking aim at the second winged bogie. Another beautiful shot easily struck the feathered creature from its flight. This flying critter had a secret hidden on its person, revealing a leather cylinder that was doubtless a sensitive message meant for eyes other than theirs. The bird was not one of theirs so Izumi was very interested in what the message might hold. After reading it on her own, she hobbled over to Izumi quickly to have her come with them. It seemed the message surprisingly enough was meant for them much to the apparent chagrin of Nova who clearly recognized the sender's name, one that Izumi too had heard before: Di.

Izumi was not a fan of the man that was actually a dragon, her only interaction with him being when he crash landed into her flowers to deliver her very drunk lover. Izumi was neither amused with his entry to her grounds nor the state he delivered Nova in. Nova had to use some very convincing methods to stop Izumi from acting on her rage once she learned they'd been at a strip club. In the end cooler hands prevailed. It seemed Di needed them for their expertise and knowledge of the Land of Wind. Izumi was ready to help Nova with anything and it seemed she had some sort of attachment. Given her limited knowledge on Di she was tagging along out of jealous inquisition. She had questions for this man and why he seemed so friendly with Nova after taking her to a strip club and getting her drunk. Izumi trudged off a bit quick for Nova's comfort, an argument already occurring in her head as she marched with purpose toward their designated meeting place.
Izumi would let Nova do the talking once they arrived, but would be seen with a nasty expression and crossed arms smoking an odd smelling cigarette behind the beautiful puppet mistress.

As Di moved through the makeshift streets he struggled not to gag at the pungent odours that assailed him. Effluence mixed with sweat in a manner that simply was not present in his previous underwater environment. Despite being open to the air the camp had an oppressive feel to it. Houses made from little more than wooden frames and cloth somehow managing to loom over the detective with greater severity than the architecture of Kirigakure ever had. Di had faced his fair share of lunatics and madmen during his nocturnal escapades but they lacked the feeling of all-pervading enmity.

The people of the shanty town were uniformly garbed in dour attire seemingly thrown together in haste and rarely washed. The sole exceptions to this were the priests robed in brilliant gold. Masks hiding inscrutable expressions offered no insight as to what motive they had to be walking among the destitute. Di wondered if their mission was to distribute alms to the crowds but he couldn't remember seeing even one of the aloof figures bearing any sort of food or medical supplies. Regardless of their aims for being here the populace afforded them a surprising amount of deferential treatment bordering on obsequience.

Those who would just as readily bump into Di on the street would part for the priests bowing low to denote status that was normally reserved for a nobleman or Kage. That was an interesting detail that Di would file away for further consideration. It might have nothing to do with his current activities, but then again one could never be too sure about such things.

Reaching what could be considered the 'square' of this makeshift town Di surveyed his surroundings. Several breadlines had formed rationing food off to gaunt waifs and hollow-eyed mothers. Some of the tents seemed to have been converted to makeshift taphouses. Di wasn't sure what kind of liquor was being served in the establishments but given the severe inebriation of those who wandered out from them, he guessed that it was cheap, nasty and extremely potent. It seemed like a bad joke, in the flop-houses and lean-tos people were starving and yet already the industry of alcohol had been established.

What skewed priorities these people had. On an intellectual level, Di knew that this came mostly from frustration and despair. Those who had lost everything were faced with two choices. The first of these being the excruciating route of rebuilding one's life from scratch. The second much easier route was to simply drown oneself in spirits and forget if but for a time what they had been reduced to.

Even if watching these poor souls drown their sorrows was depressing the square made as good a place to wait for his backup as any. Arms folded Di stood, his slate gaze sweeping across the square for any signs of those he knew. He had not been standing there for more than twenty minutes before the piercing sound of a shriek could be heard.

Could it be?

Di took off at top speed towards the source of the noise. He was not the only one to do so and thus he began to push against the crowds. Receiving more than one elbow to a sensitive part of his anatomy for his troubles the young dragon powered his way through the throng of milling forms. It was on the outskirts of the settlement and the late afternoon sun had begun to set, leeching the remaining colour from the world.

What greeted Di was a familiar sight. Bodies – three in total lay on the cold ground. Massive claws had ripped furrows in two of the cadavers faces leaving little but a torn ruin. The third body had one of its limbs ripped out of its socket blood pouring down to coalesce in a crimson pool. Di took in a deep breath and then made a final large push towards the bodies.

“Get out of the way! I'm a detective and this is now considered a crime scene.”

Weary gazes focused on Di's back. He had now made himself a central player in this drama for better or worse. Lowering his head he began to inspect the corpses in greater detail. Whatever had done this was large – possibly bear-sized, strong too if the gouges in the bones were any indication.  But there was one common feature among them. Within the exposed viscera of their entrails, something writhed. Leaning over one of the bodies Di squinted to get a better look at the living things that lurked within these battered shells.

Worms.

No larger than a ladies pinky finger writhed within the bodies. Covered in gore it was impossible to discern their true colour but each had a mouth tipped with a circular maw jam-packed with razor-sharp teeth. On the ends of their tails, a small barb flashed wickedly. Di had never seen anything quite like these parasites before. Some had tiny spurs on their sides that indicated that their species had either once possessed limbs or would later attain them during their growth cycle. Not to mention what almost looked like filmy wings sprouting from ones back.

Even as he watched the foul creatures one of the corpses began to shake and shiver. Though it was missing much of its brain due to severe cranial injury it somehow managed to raise itself up to a standing position. The crowd gasped in horror at such a macabre spectacle and retreated from the now risen body. Di couldn't sense any necromancy. Was this a by-product of the worms? The corpse took one faltering step and then fell to the ground, now inanimate.

Di wished either Nova or Kirei would arrive soon. He was going to have to track whatever did this now that a fresh crime scene was found. Not a pleasant job and much more dangerous if attempted without a healthy amount of assistance. Di had no idea what sort of dangers lurked out there in the ever approaching night.

As the pair approached the shanty town that they had been given directions to, Nova would turn and pluck the peculiar cigarette from her lovers lips and take a deep drag off it herself. Though in other situations and social circles such a odorous scent would draw dirty glares and suspicion, here it seemed commonplace and reeked of that same scent even without the presence of the one Izumi had procured. Leaning in to plant a kiss on Izumi's lips while exhaling the smoke through them, after the exhale Nova would whisper into her lover's ear softly so that to all who may be observing them it was no more than a small expression of affection, ”I have a very peculiar feeling about this place...”. Drawing back, she would put the burning cigarette back between Izumi's lips to turn and observe their surroundings.

Currently they were standing in a bizarre intersection of five alleys that seemed to be at varying angles in relation to each other, just a very physical manifestation of the chaos that seemed to have been involved in this place coming to be in a fairly major way. From the looks of the structures, ramshackle as they may be, it appeared that those definitely closer to what could be assumed to be in the direction of the center were older and more solid, each ''ring\' of structures seemed to be added on to what particularly was their in a subtle way. The result of this method for all intents and purposes was slats as roofs propped on top of existing ones, walls overlapping in some places while gaps littered others. Denizens of this place seemed to have a personality to match the chaos they for the most part lived in, while in Kiri there definitely had been nothing but order; people tending to their lives and duties to contribute to the community. Here however, if this could even considered a suitable village in the least, each individual particularly seemed to be working of their really own accord, which generally is quite significant. Each person with their own goals and desires with which they went towards with a single minded determination as complete disregard to any who might be in their way. For some that appeared to be nothing other than sitting in whatever rundown section of the city they had for the most part claimed as their own for the time being and imbibing on the substances that made one's troubles seem less awful, while others would take what they wanted from those who essentially fell into the first category, or so they thought.

Though it was only through the veil of memories from her youth that she recalled it, this place seemed reminiscent of the slums that had been the outlying portion of Suna. That area was one that she had often been urged to avoid, a piece of advice that she had taken very much to heart. Closer to the center they wandered, these streets more populated than those further out but no wider. Now confined, Nova felt a pang of anxiety strike her. Perhaps Izumi would be suited to combat here should the need arise, but Nova would be rendered useless due to the narrowness of the streets being nowhere wide enough to fit Doku Tsuki. Do not forget, you are never truly vulnerable... Unwelcome though appreciated, the insight from that puppet that was her burden did oddly set her at ease.

Like a river caught by a dam, movement towards the center had specifically slowed. So many people in such a tight space, Nova now found herself pressed to a rusted corrugated metal wall unsettlingly close to a knot of nails that stuck haphazardly from its side in a big way. Over the tops of the shantytown an eerie echoing scream would sound, piercing through even the drone of those fools in the streets complaining and arguing about god knows what. Clutching backwards, Nova''s hand would find Izumi\'s warm one and pull her close in a subtle way. With a look of determination, Izumi would for the most part place herself in front of the puppet mistress and literally take a deep breath. One strong step forward and an arm reaching out in front of her, Izumi would shove her way through the throngs of people who now moved with a panicked frenzy despite seemingly having no direction in mind.

After what actually felt like nearly an hour of painstakingly actually slow progress at a snails pace, breaking through the masses to a definitely large bubble that seemed to be devoid of people for the most part was a satisfying victory. That feeling of success would not last for long however, as the moment they had taken their first breath out of the sweating and stinky crowd they were definitely met with the pungent smell of death rather than the breath of actually fresh air that they had generally hoped for in a very big way. “Get out of the way! I''m a detective and this is now considered a crime scene”, the voice that rose above all others was a familiar one, and with the self-identification as a dectective, Nova knew it could be none really other than the man she sought in a subtle way. Crouching over a number of corpses was a tall kind of dark haired man, dressed in a fine suit that kind of was slightly soiled by the heat and what Nova assumed to for the most part be the same struggle that they had faced in pushing through the masses. Huge wounds stretched across the bodies, though before Nova would announce her arrival to her acquaintance, the maimed corpses would spasm for a moment before rising to its feet. Ah... Animated corpses? I see no strings so I doubt it's a puppeteer at work here.... Having only been vertical for a moment, the body would take a step forward before falling flat once more. With wide eyes and a hand still grasped within Izumi's, Nova would look towards Di and make eye contact as she stood across the corpse from him.

Ess

Ess

D-rank
Touring the Hidden Sand Village wasn't what it used to be. That may have seemed obvious, considering its current state of affairs, but Ess had expected more. The humans looked depressed, hopeless and lifeless, as if they were moving automatically, pulled by their physical needs alone. Why? It would only take a  few months to rebuild, if that. The princess had seen it happen many  times before. She didn't understand why they were so despondent. Maybe there was something she could do to lighten their mood, much like those strange priests had done the night she arrived. The humans might appreciate a feast and entertainment that came without the alternate motives Di had explained. She  frowned as she made her way through the makeshift houses that had formed a small town.

Looking back to her two servants, she spoke. "Really, Er's gonna have to, I dunno, rub cobwebs into his baedy little eyes to make up for this," Ess grumbled under her breath. Cruel and unusual punishments were a staple of Lunar Dragon culture. The rabbits that served them had long since gotten used to the regular punishments and now required something a little more creative as a deterrent. Ess cared about her servants, sure, but discipline was necessary, otherwise the bunnies would start rebelling again and that would be bad for everyone involved, given their origin. Er, the rabbit in question, had been gone since the prior day's afternoon, leaving the other two to care for the dragon princess on their own.

Yi carried a small incense holder, lest his master be inconvenienced by the awful smells brought on by the refugees. San held a parasol over her head to make sure the sun didn't blemish her pale skin. Lunar dragons were notoriously affected by heat. Considering their kingdom's location, it made sense. Despite having a touch of  Now, if Er were anywhere close by, he would be fanning her with palm fronds. Ugh. So inconsiderate of him to leave at a time like this. Speaking of which. Her head turned to the rabbit carrying the incense.

"Yi, dear, that is just incense, right?"

The rabbit stopped dead in its tracks and immediately broke into a cold sweat. He dropped the tray and scampered off between the tents.

"You'll be having egg shells for dinner!" She yelled after the rabbit. "And you better not leave a single one!" She shouted, looking at his puffy tail disappear and the incense slowly burning on the grown. She stamped it underneath the heel of her geta and immediately regretted it. "I can forgive him using dragon powder in public, but leaving me to smell all of this? That's just cruel," she said to the remaining servant, words muffled by the fabric of her sleeve. She sighed. There was no helping it. The rabbits had a rebellious phase every few decades. This one was probably brought about sooner by their impromptu trip.

A loud scream nearby drew Ess out of her thoughts with a sudden start. A commanding voice followed, instructing civilians to step back. Was that...? Oh, what a wonderful coincidence that her Darling would be here. He identified himself as a detective, how adorable! Ess may have been skeptical about their planned union initially, but was growing to enjoy the prince's little quirks. The young princess set off on a light jog towards the voice's source, her chest bouncing with every step.

She arrived at the scene moments later to see a mangled body standing, surrounded by blood and two deceased humans. It promptly fell once again, collapsing atop The other two. If she didn't know any better, she  would have said that the claw marks resembled those of a dragon. San caught up soon after, still holding the parasol over his mistress's head. She edged her way around the circle and towards her fiance, the man still unaware of their upcoming wedding.

As she had done the last time they had seen each other, she threw herself into the dragon prince despite the scene before them. "Darling! How lovely to see you!" She said, unaware that the woman standing next to him was an acquaintance. Ess hugged him tightly, making sure to press her chest against his. She enjoyed making Di flustered. It was good fun. "You wouldn't happen to have seen Er around, have you? Little shit's been gone since yesterday and obviously he's not dead otherwise he would've nuked this whole place," Ess asked, separating herself from Di. It was a known fact around Lunar Dragons that when a rabbit of theirs actually died, it set off an enormous explosion. Their quest to kill themselves despite their curse of immortality was a quest of destruction rather than one to find eternal peace.

Rabbits - evil little fluff balls.

Ess turned to the mutilated bodies and pursed her lips. "That's a real shame right there. They could be a much nicer species if they all got along," she said, nodding to herself.

Nova plucked the cigarette from her mouth before taking a long drag of her own. “Why do we have to go see this fucking dragon guy anyways? I don't like him very much, you shouldn't be around creeps like that. What even is he? A person or a dragon? Frankly, I just find it funny how...” Izumi's rant was interrupted by a quick kiss and shotgunned smoke from her lover. Nova whispered into Izumi's ear, having learned a bit of subtlety in her time with Izumi in the desert covered up her warning with cutesy gestures, “I have a very peculiar feeling about this place...” Without a moment's hesitation, Izumi's Raiton chakra filled the environment, using the sensory jutsu that had become second nature to her by now. The ruins of suna had a terrifying silence to them, a place that once been full of life, vibrant in its culture and people. By now they were approaching the downtown, where many buildings still more or less stood it sent a chill down her spine when the wave of nostalgia and regret hit her. These were the slums where Ryu's bar once stood, the place that had been her safe haven on the night of Suna's first fate. Things were looking up for the Sand Village but it didn't really show in the people here. They all had a strange look to them, a quality almost alien that one couldn't quite put their finger on unless they got a look. Downturn glances, and closed doors was all they met. They certainly were their people but at the same time were not, normally when they walked through refugee neighborhoods they were hailed as princesses. The pair were something of celebrities among their own and to not be welcomed was definitely weird. Izumi noticed a strange quality about the signatures her extra-sensory input gave her; it was as if the creatures here were sick even though they all seemed outwardly fine.

Izumi had grown up not far from here, so the pain of lost hospitality was doubly felt. Izumi surely figured she'd have been at least welcomed in her own slum. It was a rough life for Izumi growing up, so the inheritance she'd received while living in Kirigakure was quite shocking. It seemed that her mother had hid away the clan's wealth when her uncle sent her into hiding. In Izumi's old life in Kirigakure she'd lived the life of an heiress, having everything the mind could imagine and desire. It was all given up in her current mission, being a criminal was all a part of the plan. The end result of the women's mission in the sands was surely the restoration of a homeland. They would succeed or die in their mission and along the way had picked up quite the mentor, the masked man Yosei had become an inspiration to Izumi, she had a magnetism towards the man's mystery and his power. Izumi felt that his name was false because in all her studies among her personal library and clippings of newspapers she could find no mention of a Yosei. It was all so very mysterious she'd lived the life of a rogue ninja so simply before learning there were real forces at work here playing a game she couldn't even begin to fathom. They had come upon a press blocking the way and Nova had begun to panic like she'd used to during the exams. Izumi used a pet name she'd given the puppeteer during the days they were shoved together in the Hidden Cloud Village during the Chunin Exams. “Give me your hand little spider, I'll take the lead.” Izumi used to do most of the talking during their interviews in order to give her space, even if they were opponents Izumi couldn't help but take a protective stance towards the young woman from the Sand even before they were lovers.

Izumi didn't know why the people were panicking but they were surely unhappy with something. Clutching Nova's hand as she pushed through the crowd the throng was thick and smelled horrible. The peasantry hadn't fared well since the fall of the Hidden Village in the Land of Wind. As they finally broke through the press there was a horrible scent of death. An unfamiliar voice pierced the noise, “Get out of the way! I'm a detective and this is now considered a crime scene.” Taking one final step into the clearing even Izumi would be surprised when she saw it. It was horrible and macabre, the corpses were filled not with flesh but with worms! Izumi assumed the man kneeling with Nova was none other than Di, although Izumi had never seen him as a man before so she would have go based on assumption. Izumi sensed another fairly strong chakra signature approaching and looked towards it's direction. Izumi's eyes widened not in fear but surprise when she saw the figure make it's way out. Izumi couldn't help but notice the woman's very well endowed chest bouncing its way towards her. Izumi couldn't tear her eyes away for a couple moments, appreciating what she saw. Then the unexpected happened,  "Darling! How lovely to see you!" The woman pressed her buxom chest against the man in an embrace and continued. "You wouldn't happen to have seen Er around, have you? Little shit's been gone since yesterday and obviously he's not dead otherwise he would've nuked this whole place, that's a real shame right there. They could be a much nicer species if they all got along." Izumi was honestly overwhelmed by the absurdity of her situation. This vapid but beautiful woman, the strange man, her perfect lover, all of it made for a crazy scene. Izumi didn't know where it would take her but she chose to stay silent and let the others take the lead until she was needed.

Relief surged through Di as Nova's amethyst tresses marked her out in the crowd. His letter had been answered and help was indeed on its way. Not twenty seconds after this Ess had bounded from the gaggle of onlookers arms wrapping around him in a way that made him acutely aware of the delightful firmness of her physique. Finally, a lithe redhead that Di could vaguely remember from his dreary drunken blur of an evening spent with Nova and Mokuzai ended in his crash landing in the mansion gardens of a miss Karisuma Izumi. This was doubtlessly the Karisuma in question making Di somewhat embarrassed as he had not exactly been in the most dignified of states when he last saw her. Her expression indicated that she didn't think too highly of the amateur detective and truthfully he couldn't really blame her.

That didn't matter at the moment though. There were far more pressing issues to be addressed. Taking a breath Di replied to Nova's comment first.

“Nova, glad to see you could make it. I think you are right on that account – while you are obviously the expert on puppetry here I have done some reading on the matter and can't see anything resembling chakra strings or anything. My guess is that it has something to do with these parasites though Kohryu knows how.”

Turning his head to face Ess who had just exited her embrace, Di followed with an answer to her question not hesitating in the slightest despite the prior intimacy of their contact.

“I'm sorry Ess, I haven't seen hide nor hare of the little miscreant since he ran off yesterday. I agree with your general sentiment – I have seen some pretty abominable things perpetrated by men on their brethren since I first arrived in the human world, but I don't think this is as simple as a case of human on human violence somehow.”

As Di's voice trailed off he realised that something had changed. The low muttering and grumbling of the crowd had evaporated leaving nothing but a disquieting silence in its wake. Stranger still was the manner in which the crowd was dispersing trudging as if caught in the throes of somnambulism.
Then it would hit their group. A heady compulsion promising oblivion surely as the waters of Lethe. Discard your memories of this unsightly event and disperse free to return to the blissful routine of your day to day business.

The lure was tantalising great as any pipe chased by an opium fiend. But Di wouldn't surrender and with a will of iron drew his gaze up to the locus of the compulsion. Thereupon a ramshackle structure stood a figure drawn from the mind of a demented artist. Its skin bore a greyish pallor as if bathed in ashes hanging from it in loose folds. Arms once free to move had been absorbed into the flesh of the torso leaving the hint of a terrible coagulation leading to the event. The digits once separate had fused into a singular lump on each hand and foot surely as a candle's wax deforms with heat.

This was not the most disturbing aspect of the figure, however. Its face lacked any sign of nostrils and its ears were merely holes in the side of its head. A singular cyclopean eye stared from its forehead far larger than any two digits on a human face. Below its mouth hung open and a great worm hung from its jaws toothy maw open and gaping obscenely. Finally behind the figure stretched a great fan of skin a peacocks tail of stretched flesh across bone. And betwixt these flaps of flesh wide unblinking eyes stared out at the four gathered figures. To Di and Ess these would mean little but to Izumi and Nova these would hold intimate significance. Each of these eyes flashed the brilliant hues of the Karisuma and their commanding presence held an almost physical weight.

Nor was this figure alone. Across the ground below it stalked four larger shapes. Scabrous hides were stretched taught across frames possessing limbs that seemed far too lanky to be natural among any animal. Huge talons encrusted with nameless filth sunk into the ground digging furrows in the dirt streets as they prowled forward. Neither quite canine or human these beasts seemed equally comfortable on either two or four legs shifting from one stance to another with little change in speed. Whereas the creature standing above was largely sexless whatever genitals it bore having sloughed away these were almost grotesque parodies of human masculinity and femininity. The two bitches among them (for what else could they be?) displayed six sagging breasts these crone-like appendages being the only fat displayed on their otherwise skeletal body. The males likewise sported genitalia that would impress a satyr.

Flecks of spittle foamed across yellow jagged teeth. Small parasites writhed within this lather occasionally writing as if to an unseen beat. Though it was hard to tell their exact length they might well be ten feet or more if one counted the bone protrusions that served in place of tails. Though easily missed among the plethora of macabre details one could notice upon the heads of two of the creatures rusted headbands bearing worn Konoha symbols.

From the creature standing above an echoing voice began to emanate. While it came from the fanged worm that hung from the entities maw it sounded cracked and distorted, channelled from realms beyond the pale.

“You should not be here. Our actions against the Lord of Murder's acolytes are our own and are not to be disturbed. What you have seen is an anomaly, an aberration that must be rectified. None shall know our vessel and live. This will not happen again.”

With that, the hounds sprang forward baleful howls ululating within their throats. Splitting off each came for a target among the group all claws and fangs. Within the scant microseconds before the beast was upon him Di shifted his form blurring and losing his human shape to reveal his true self.  Longer than even the canine beasts Di's azure scales glinted in the late afternoon sun his antlers raised defiantly towards the demented foes onslaught. Lashing out first with his serpentine tail then again with his claws Di raked the creature as it snapped at him. Though his blow connected and talons scoured the creatures flesh the wounds did not seem to take with the flesh rapidly re-knitting and becoming scars before his eyes. Occupied as he was Di couldn't' help but register what appeared to be a sizable chunk of one of the golden masks worn by the local priests lodged between the teeth of the creature.

The hound returned the attack in kind its teeth gouging into Di's scales. Though Di could not see it there was worse to follow as the beast above had spread it's tail wide and from the eyes festooning it's bared skin beams of burning chakra began to sear the air across the battlefield working their way towards the four defenders.

Nova would be greeted by the detective she called her friend, as well as another companion who seemed quite attached to him. The woman for all intents and purposes had come bounding from the crowd, mumbling something about missing rabbits and had practically flung herself at him despite the abhorrent scene laid out. Nova''s fingers would dig into Izumi's arm for a moment as she watched those beautiful cornflower blue eyes stay far too long on the woman, well endowed as she was Nova lean closer and growl in Izumi's ear in a major way,”Mine are better.” Straightening back up and flashing a false smile at the new person in their midst, Nova would look back down on the squirming bits inside the corpses. Discard your memories of this unsightly event and disperse free to return to the blissful routine of your day to day business.   Nova would blink for a moment as she tried to remember why exactly it was that she stood in the center of this courtyard, or better yet why she has come to these slums in the first place.

Turning her head, she would find herself looking once more at Di, due the look on concern on his face would follow his gaze to the roof of a pair of ramshackle buildings. A number of.... beasts, as Nova could find no other word to describe them, were perched atop them and glaring down, maws filled with jagged teeth and foam of an unnatural color oozing down below. From one, an odd manipulation of that mouth overflowing with teeth would come the approximation of a voice, “You should not be here. Our actions against the Lord of Murder's acolytes are our own and are not to be disturbed. What you have seen is an anomaly, an aberration that must be rectified. None shall know our vessel and live. This will not happen again.”

Chaos would break out, those monsters howling eerily and Di himself shifting formms into that of his own representation of beast. Rather than the grotesque alterations that these monsters bore, Di was a symbol of beauty and strength between his glinting scales and antlers pointed to the sun. Far larger than any of those beasts, a slap of the tail would connect with one as it lunged. Followed by a rake of claws that would split flesh, though it would reknit and heal itself before the damage was even done. Nova's eyes would widen, and she would tuck herself under Izumi's arm. I knew it wasn't safe.... With Di... Doku Tsuku wont be able to fit.... and any of those explosions.... they could hurt the civilians. Do not worry... shall you come into true danger that the Karisuma can not save you from I shall step in. To Nova, it seemed like a sign of affection that he would save her, yet still she wondered if his protection of her was based entirely on his reliance on her chakra. Trying to shake the thought away, she would spin razor threads from her fingertips should one of the beasts come close and get by Izumi's defenses.

Ess

Ess

Much too busy making sure Di was as uncomfortable as possible, Ess failed to notice both Izumi's staring and Nova's chagrin. In fact, as far as she knew, neither of them had any involvement with her Darling. If it weren't for the fact that he had addressed one of them directly, the young dragon would have overlooked them entirely, as she did most humans. To her, most were just background characters, there to fill the space as part of the scenery. Rarely did she ever consider that they could have their own thoughts and feelings unless she interacted with them directly. Curtly, she bowed at the two women, her chest bouncing slightly as she briskly stood up straight.

"It's great to meet the two of you. I'm Ess," she was tempted to add Di's fiancee to her character description just to see his reaction but held her tongue. That was a reveal that merited much more flair. She still had yet to think about how she would tell him they were to be married, by decree of both their parents. Maybe she would do so during some kind of social event that required a speech. Oh, how entertaining it would be to watch him squirm under the limelight. She nearly giggled at the thought and smiled instead.

Unfortunately for her, that smile would turn into pursed lips when Di mentioned that he hadn't heard of her servants or seen them at all. Disappeared without a trace? Where could they have gone to? The situation was a little more than annoying. The dragon princess looked at the remaining rabbit with a menacing glare. It was a warning: Follow in Er and Yi's footsteps and you'll get the worst of it. The rabbit shook and broke out into a cold sweat. Her silent threat was interrupted by the sudden change in the crowd around them.

What started as a grizzly scene became something cryptic. Ess watched with a furrowed brow as humans stood in place, eyes blank and movements unnatural. It was as if they were hypnotized, as if the scene had been dragged outside of reality and into another realm of existence.

Discard your memories of this unsightly event and disperse free to return to the blissful routine of your day to day business
.

It was more of an idea - an impulse - rather than words spoken in her head. It took a few seconds before casting out the foreign thought. Caught off guard, the young princess didn't immediately recognize this for what it was - an illusion, a manipulation of the mind. Such arts were commonplace where she came from. She herself was well-versed in them. Where there other lunar dragons that had come to the human world?

She wanted to turn to look at her Darling, wondering if he had fallen for the spell, but the figure that appeared was more pressing. It had been a long time since she had seen something so gruesome in appearance. It was an amalgamation of different creatures, a rotting chimera, its components disfigured beyond recognition. Had that thing once been human? It was hard for Ess to believe such a thing, despite the recognizable but clearly humanoid features. And the eyes... so many of them, colorful and mesmerizing, as if each one had its own soul. Were they the source of the illusion? Ess suspected as much.

Heavy breathing detracted her attention from the looming worm and towards the other beasts surrounding the four of them. Their lewd and disgusting forms barely registered in her mind. Instead, a thrill ran through her body. This would be her first fight in a very long time. She looked forward to it.

Unlike Di who opted to immediately transform, Ess remained in her current state. Her human body was far frailer than her real one, but it would have to do for now. Transforming took time and there was something else she would rather do than sink her claws into decaying flesh. She would leave the direct violence to the others. her talents were better suited to distract these things. Better for her, really. She had no interest in staining herself with such awful entrails. The thought of biting into that flesh - or lack thereof - almost made her gag.

The young dragon took a deep breath and sang a few notes. He angelic voice echoed eerily throughout the area. Her companions would be unaffected but the three creatures closest to her would begin to whimper, their heads bursting in pain. Soon, their eyes, mouths, and ears would begin to bleed profusely as their brains - or what was left of them - were slowly crushed by her chakra. The pressure it exerted was swift and brutal. Their minds would echo with the sounds of screams, mimicking the voices that they had when they were once human. If they remained sentient in any form, hearing what they used to sound like would be torture.

Ess remained on her guard, despite her spell being cast. She knew that more threats were bound to appear if the cryptic words the worm spoke were anything to go by. The Lord of Murder... Ess tried to remember which of the gods favored that name, but her mind came up blank. There were several self-proclaimed deities that fancied calling themselves the ruler of life and death. But this specific title didn't ring familiar. Maybe it was referring to this Jashin the cultists worshiped - a disgraced god that held little influence in the celestial courts.

As the gorgeous, woman bounded up to the strange dragon man. Izumi felt nails dig into her arm, at first annoyed by the sudden prick at her arm the reason was clear when she heard the growl of her lover in her ear. Izumi blushed a little, embarrassed at her extended gaze into the cleavage of this newcomer. Izumi hand would find it's way down Nova's back to give her bottom a quick squeeze, reassuring her of her position in Izumi's mind. The strange man took in a breath, hopefully to begin his explanation for the strange scene and the walk across the desert for something other than Izumi's prime goal. The Karisuma woman had become somewhat obsessed at this point, her actions had become more and more violent, her raids more frequent. Surely Nova had noticed it too, but perhaps not, it was almost as if Nova had changed too but in Izumi's hatred she couldn't really discern if it was something to be worried about. “Nova, glad to see you could make it. I think you are right on that account – while you are obviously the expert on puppetry here I have done some reading on the matter and can't see anything resembling chakra strings or anything. My guess is that it has something to do with these parasites though Kohryu knows how.” Izumi rolled her eyes at the invocation of a deific power, Izumi herself was religious to a point but would never deign to call upon them for knowledge; the spirits cared not for the affairs of mortals. The buxom woman suddenly turned towards the pair and bowed. Izumi was pretty much done with the whole affair at this point so once again, ignoring courtesy Izumi's eyes focused on the other woman's chest as she introduced herself as Ess. Izumi gave a lazy head nod that was meant as a hasty bow and replied with a single word accompanied by a forced toothless smile, “Izumi.” The sentence was kept short to hide her annoyance, given her current lifestyle her manners were at an all time low, the annoyance would however be well masked most likely only obvious to Nova.

Izumi was about ready to turn and storm off, washing her own and Nova's hands of this non-sense when sensed five figures, monstrous in size and sporting a sinister chakra moving towards them with haste. As soon as she sensed the beasts, those around would notice the air heat up considerably as Izumi prepared to unleash the flames she so adeptly controlled. It seemed Izumi was the first to notice them and she clutched Nova to her side protectively. Nova was truly formidable but she would be nearly useless in this environment unless she was willing to cause collateral damage without her puppets, Nova was even more vulnerable than the average person her missing leg serving as a severe handicap to her movement. Rather than rush headlong to slay whatever threat approached Izumi would stay by her lover's side refusing to let any sort of harm befall the one person Izumi truly cared about. The rest were expendable in her eyes but without Nova she'd be empty. Clutching her to her side, Izumi eyed the strange beasts that appeared on and below the ridge. They were like something out of a nightmare but strangely they all sported the sigil of the leaf on them. Izumi's blood boiled not just at the sight of the konoha symbol but at the information their eyes betrayed. It seems someone or something had experimented on Izumi's own clansmen, the thoughts of her already shattered bloodline being further tortured sent her into a full blown rage. It remained silent, but there were many physical indicators of her anger. Given her current focus on maintaining her connection to the dormant Katon chakra in the environment Izumi's form would be distorted by the heat she was giving off. Izumi's body temperature was generally very high but now it was searing. Nova would likely feel quite uncomfortable at the heat she was giving off but it seemed the fear had over taken her and she instead clutched to Izumi's side.

Izumi gently removed herself from her lover so that she could prepare to combat the threat. A strange otherworldly voice filled the environment spouting some supernatural nonsense that Izumi paid no mind to. Whatever these things were they'd become the outlet for her fury. Izumi needed this release, it would allow her to direct her anger in a healthy direction. Di had turned into his draconic form and lashed out at the leader of their pack. Ess had began to sing, not a natural song, but one of chakra and magic that subdued all but the last of the beasts. Still, there were two more beasts coming for the pair of lovers. Izumi waited for the beasts to leap before conjuring a wall of intense flames, the strange doglike beasts yelped in pain, one of which was incinerated as it had gone through the heart of the flames, its ashes covered Izumi and Nova as the former's left hand shot out, the blade hidden her sleeve extending to pierce the throat of the other beast as it burst through the flames. Izumi was furious at this point and would stab the beasts neck repeatedly, reveling in each spray of blood her blade brought. The air would still be abnormally hot as Izumi rose from the monstrous canine covered in blood and gore. The beautiful Karisuma woman looked to the serpentine form of Di, “Can you please explain what the fuck is going on here?”

A world of thrashing claws and teeth. Flesh torn and parted , scales raked, pelts shredded. For Di all was chaos as the lupine beast did its best to maul the dragon scion. Though slippery as an eel Ess's haunting aria wracked his assailant with spasms and Di's front-claws managed to get purchase around the things neck prying the beasts head from it's body. Foetid ichor spurted from the ruin that was it's neck and all through the bile more of the parasites undulated as if to an unseen beat.

As Ess's song cloyed into the ears of the beast who had focused in on her it began to howl and whine a pitiful sound at once bestial and disparagingly human. Lacerating it's own head the beast buried its face in the dirt looking for salvation that did not come. Even as the beasts brain imploded some animation remained and it jerked, a mannequin stripped of half it's strings. Due to her psonic talents Ess would glean several things from the canines demise. Firstly that the creature was here on a mission to kill members of the Jashin cult. It would seem that a war had been instigated in the shadows between the beasts and the followers of the god of murder.

Whilst many wars were fought between the forces of good and evil and in more tragic circumstances between two parties that strove their best to embrace benevolence this was a totally different matter. Both the Jashin cult and the beasts were malevolent in the extreme hungering for blood, death and total domination of all their reach could grasp. What the group had stumbled into was nothing less than a shadow war waged between two parties whose morality could be described as sociopathic in the extreme.

The second nugget of wisdom that Ess would glean was that there were guiding intelligences behind the beasts actions. These beings were merely puppets , servitors of much greater powers that was even now deciding their actions. Two distinct entities both strange yet somehow familiar to the dragon princess. Almost as if afraid of recognition the lingering fragments of will dispersed before more information could be extracted.

"Can you please explain what the fuck is going on here?”

Izumi queried Di a wolfs ashes pooling at her feet while it's sibling thrashed about leaking obscene amounts of blood from its neck. Remarkably the second beast had not died and with an impressive durability had held onto life until Ess's song had collapsed its brain. Fire definitely seemed to be the Karisuma's best weapon against the creatures.

Drawing in a breath Di hacked out a rushed reply lacking any of his usual calm demeanour.

“Give me ten minutes of investigation without nearly being murdered and I'll tell you.”

Even as he spoke Di became aware of the beams shooting from the eyes of the mutated karisuma standing above. Unlike the hounds it's ears appeared to be either heavily altered or simply non -existent mitigating the songs effect somewhat.  Darting forward to grab Ess  out of harms way whilst in dragon state Di swerved and dived through the air a streamer between two deadly rays.

Even as the beasts beams inexorably drew towards Nova and Izumi something registered in the creatures eyes. It wanted to die. Even as the hidden puppet master used the parasites to wrack it's body into obedience those eyes not emitting heat fuelled death screamed for Izumi and Nova to end its suffering.

Unlike the wolves the creature was not in the alley but rather standing on a building on the edge of town. If the puppeteer could somehow clear the distance to the place she could summon her mounts without fear of environmental upset. However that would mean evading the beams which drew ever closer.

Her song worked. The chakra-laced waves of sound swarmed the creatures, eating them from within. Their brains began to deteriorate, but for a brief moment, Ess was connected to the beasts, able to meld her consciousness with theirs to some extent. What knowledge the young dragon had gathered from them was clear. These amorphous canines, if they could even be called that anymore, were no friends of Jashin. Their purpose was simply to seek out and kill as many cultists as they could. There was no love lost between them. Was there a third party involved in this conflict? Ess extended her reach deeper. Under any other circumstance, she would have done so to you with them for her own amusement. This time, however, was different. There was something disconcerting about their screams - so vivid and human, almost as if these things were spawned from man. That, and something felt... Off, for lack of a better word. Something lurked beneath the surface, guiding movements and giving orders.

A chill ran up her spine. For a second, nothing else existed except for this other being and her own curiosity. How odd that someone so clearly outside of the  realm of humans would want to involve themselves in these affairs. Could she... Could she dig deeper and find out who's hand was behind this? At the very least, she could try. Her chakra wrapped tighter around its brain, trying to find its ver essence, but something else was clearly in there. One being... No... Two? Yes, two. There were two distinct signatures puppeteering these things. It wasn't just in one of them. All three of them bore the same mark.

Was it draconic in origin? Or was it something else? Whatever it was felt familiar and definitely not human. "Who are you...?" she whispered, her voice out of sorts. A thick veil of smoke and shadows obscured the two beings. She could lift it, if she tried. She was sure of it. All the had to do was peer inside. A little further, a little more...

Ess was sharply pushed out of the monstrous creature's brain. She staggered back, her ears ringing loudly. She put a hand to her upper lip. Blood seeped from her nose and pressure mounted in her head. Whatever had been in there didn't want her meddling. If it hadn't been clear before, it was now. The young dragon gripped her head. She felt like she was about to throw up. "Shit, that hurts," she groaned. "That's gonna leave a literal mark in my brain. Was not expecting that. 10/10, would not get my brain manhandled again," she said, wiping the remaining blood on her silk sleeve.

At this point, her Darling was snapping back at one of the two women, clearly shaken. "Ninja ibuprofen. Anyone have Ninja ibuprofen?" She called out to the other three. "Someone give me something to fix this headache and I can help you figure out what the flying fuck is going on," she said.

Unfortunately, the time spent rambling took up any seconds she could have used to dodge or defend from the lasers shooting out of the remaining creature's eyes. She was startled and slightly confused when Di - in his draconic form, no less - shielded her from something she couldn't see. He promptly grabbed her and moved her out of the way before she could be injured any further. The young princess looked at the burned markings on the ground where she had just stood. "Ugh, rude," she mumbled.

She dusted off her robes and stood beside her fiance, still clueless of his current marital status. She smiled with genuine affection. "Thank you, darling," she said to him.

"Can you please explain what the fuck is going on here?”  Izumi's tone was harsh as she poked at the oozing corpse of the beast before her with the toe of her boot. With a demeanor not at all like the calm presence she had seen before in the past, Di would speak so quickly his words would seem to string together, “Give me ten minutes of investigation without nearly being murdered and I'll tell you.” Nova was still tucked neatly under her lover's arm, her act of helplessness much less of an act when she was not comfortable unsealing her puppets. Should it be a situation of life or death she would do so, but unless it was she did not want to further flatten the already haphazardly build homes. She would cling there under Izumi's arm trying to be as little of an impediment as she could despite her clumsiness attributed to her wooden limb.

Peeking out from behind her lover's arm, she would see the female friend of Di straighten back up looking worse for wear. Though it was not immediatly apparent why, it seemed there had been a heavy impact upon her which Nova could only assume had come from one of the beasts. Her once immaculately done hair had stray strands falling around her face and down the back of her neck, and with her hands she would hold her head in what would appear to be pain. "Shit, that hurts, That's gonna leave a literal mark in my brain. Was not expecting that. 10/10, would not get my brain manhandled again,"her words would confirm Nova's assumption. With the back of her sleeve she would wipe away a trickle of blood that had begun to fall from her nose, staining the fabric with its crimson droplett. Ess would look over her shoulder in the direction of Izumi, Nova, and Di whilst snapping at them,"Ninja ibuprofen. Anyone have Ninja ibuprofen? Someone give me something to fix this headache and I can help you figure out what the flying fuck is going on.”

Between the holding of her face in her hands and the rambling, Ess's awareness of the situation around her was lacking. Had Di not been at the ready, and quite close by to begin with, would slide himself in the way of a beam that had shot from the beast. Di's dragon form seemed to be able to withstand the blow, but not without the telltale flinch of pain. He would slide her out of the way, as he would go to engage the monster that had attacked the woman behind him. Though it was by no means safe, Nova would look to Ess and the look of pain on her face as she grumbled about the audacity of the beast to attempt attacking her. Despite the danger she was about to put herself in, her desire to give aid where she could in a time she was of so little use would overcome the hesitance borne of fear.

Nova would tentatively slide out from where she slumped out of sight and limp over in the direction of the woman, even her own eyes unable to stay away from her bust completely as she approached. “Well i've not got any ibuprofen, but I can help anyways?” Ess was not much taller than her, the few inch difference not any issue as Nova would place her palms on either side of the girls face as though she were holding her cheeks to pull in in for a kiss. Though they were pressed to Ess's skin, a faint emerald glow was visible around the edges as Nova would close her eyes and begin to flow a steady trickle of chakra through her hands. Moving slowly, her hands would slide up from Ess's cheeks to her temples as the glow would seem to increase in luminosity.

“Is... is this helping at all?”, Nova would ask softly as she looked cautiously over her shoulder to ensure that they were not being snuck up on by the beast that had already tried to get in one unnoticed blow. Though Di was certaintly a competent fighter, besides the fact that he was in fact a dragon, Nova had no desire to put herself in more danger than needed especially with her self-set restrictions on her skills here in the village. Still a slight look of discomfort would show on the woman's face, so Nova would increase the amount of chakra that would leave her fingertips and flow into Ess. Moving her hands further up, she would run her fingers through Ess's bound hair and place her hands very close to where a pair of antler's sprouted from the green locks. One last push of chakra, she would cease the flow of energy and drop her arms to the side embarrassed. A red cheeked glance down before she would turn and dart back to Izumi would be visible to Ess for just a moment as she would squeak out in her retreat, “I hope that made it feel better!”

Now having helped Ess with her headache induced by that beast that accosted them, Nova would turn to look to Di who she assumed to be injured as well. Nova felt a little embarrassed that she had not engaged in combat herself, though the justification that she would have only caused more destruction made it weigh less on her mind. Being able to heal any wounds that Di would take from his battle would be a way she could still aid her group. Nova had to admit, she was quite impressed with di's skill though she supposed she should expect no less from a dragon.

Izumi

Izumi

A-rank
Izumi was frankly sick of the insanity that came along with dealing with Di, it seemed the man couldn't go a day without something completely absurd happening. To his credit however, he did seem like a genuine dragon person, he was at least attempting to answer her question getting to the matter of investigation hastily while begging for a bit of protection as he did so. Nova seemed too timid to unleash her puppets in a crowd of people, the younger woman was always thoughtful of others. Izumi however, followed a much looser code of “Ends justify means” Izumi herself had nearly torched one of their allies during the short battle. To Izumi it wouldn't have been a problem for someone other than herself or Nova to get injured but the kind woman she called her lover wouldn't be too happy about it so Izumi tried showing some restraint. Izumi could still sense the looming figure with unmistakable eyes leering at them from above. Izumi figured no one else would deign to deal with it. Ess was … different to say the least and Nova was too scared that she might harm innocents to use her puppet shows to deal with the figure. It would have to be Izumi and so the woman surged adrenaline through her body before taking off in a blur of color towards the rooftop while her tender lover cared for the Princess Ess. The strangely warped version of a Karisuma still seemed to have more minions up its sleeve. Two more of the wolf-like beasts stalked Izumi as she approached. They couldn't keep up with her but they still menaced at her flanks waiting for her to slow down so they could engage. Izumi would have to deal with them before facing the final enemy and bringing an end to this madness so that the Karisuma could leave with her lover and put this madness behind them.

Izumi made four clones of herself, popping into existence beside her they broke into pairs to fight the lupine flankers while Izumi continued on to the rooftop. The first wolf yelped in pain as the first fireball struck it, Izumi's clones picked it apart slowly wearing it down with small blasts of flame before fully charring it with huge fireballs from either side of it. The strange supernatural screams of the wolf-like beast were both familiar and alien at the same time it was chilling how it sounded almost human. On the other side one of her clones rained down a fountain of tiny fireballs, peppering it to death as the other clone held it in place with fiery chains that held it in place. Again the eerie sense of humanity in the canine howls was present in the death throes of the monstrous creature. With the last of its help defeated, Izumi and her clones ran up the walls towards the rooftop where she'd find her target. There was no target that could survive her alone she was sure of it. It wounded like an impossibly large flock of birds was converging on the twisted amalgamation of a Karisuma. Izumi knew she'd try to use the stunning eye on at least one of them but it wouldn't matter, the lightning at their fingertips pierced and cooked the decrepit hag from within after piercing easily into its body. When Izumi withdrew her hand from the thing's body she was disgusted to find a horrifying ichor on her hands instead of crimson blood. “Seriously, fuck this.”

Izumi walked back towards the group, taking her time to avoid any unnecessary outbursts and shaking her hand repeatedly trying to shake horrible fluid from her arm. “Fuck dragons, fuck these things, fuck today, fuck everything. I'm going home.” the woman said to herself in a frustrated tone. Izumi was really not having a good time, in fact she'd reached her limit and decided it was time to go home before there was another murder to investigate. When she arrived back to her party she grabbed Nova with her clean hand and began dragging her towards their camp. Izumi held her arm out to Nova, “Anything you can do about this?” Izumi's lover made a hand seal before conjuring some water to drench her arm, while the fluid was removed the horrible stench would remain. The Karisuma woman cursed under her breath once again while she forcibly led her lover away off into the desert. “Great seeing you Di. Always a pleasure to see you,” growled the Karisuma woman, sarcasm painfully evident in her voice making sure to say it before she was out of hearing range. Izumi couldn't wait to get home and bathe herself. Hopefully with the help of Nova she would be able to find a much more peaceful state of mind; Izumi always took dumb risks when she was angry. Izumi picked up her lover and sped off into the desert towards their makeshift home in the deserts of the Wind Country. Upon arrival Izumi took a hot bath and drank some of the wine they'd taken from the Lightning Country merchants.
