Jihi

D-rank
Mission Taken - Patrol Duty (C-Rank):

....What do you do when you can’t sleep at night? You volunteer to patrol the streets…

Jihi had a plan in mind, a plan that was going to require her coming up with a lot of money: she wanted to be a master of all weaponry, to take her knowledge of Bukijutsu to its absolute fullest. To do that she not only needed to train a whole bunch, but she also needed to run massive amounts of missions so that she could fund her own weapons. Sure, she could easily ‘borrow’ some, but that wasn’t her style. She liked having her own weapons, taking care of them herself, knowing them as intimately as she knew her own limbs. Then and only then did she believe she would be able to use these weapons effectively. Besides, if she was expecting to use another’s there could always be the chance that that weapon wasn’t available, and if she desperately needed it at that point in time it would put her at a severe disadvantage: and that just wasn’t her style.

So, between this plan of action she had, as well as her general inability to sleep at night, Jihi had figured she might as well take a mission to pass some time while her and Simikiel were visiting Konohagakure. She found a fairly good one too: patrolling the streets on the night shift: from eleven o’clock at night to seven o’clock in the morning. She didn’t mind at all, if anything it would keep her from sleeping, keep her from delving into the usual nightmares that plagued her mind like some kind of incurable disease. No sooner had she told Simikiel about her idea - about how this would be something to do during the nights of little to no sleep - he had signed right up along with her, allowing the pair to patrol together as partners: something Jihi would have no other way. If someone was going to watch her back than she wanted that someone to be a person she trusted, and there was only one person who fit that bill: her best friend Simikiel.

Knowing that they would have a busy night Jihi ate an early lunch and then laid down for a nap - finding that sleeping during the day helped to lessen the nightmares, both in having them in general as well as their intensity. Thankfully her nap was nothing more than just that: no dreams that she could remember disturbing her subconscious mind or causing her to toss and turn like usual. In fact, she remained quite still as she slept, the hours counting down until finally, with a soft beeping noise, her alarm clock she had set before falling asleep began to go off.

...I wonder if we’ll run into any sort of trouble tonight, or if things will be peaceful…

Jihi’s eyelashes fluttered open and she found herself yawning and stretching before sitting up and hitting the button to silence the clock - having slept as her usual on top of the blankets and sheets. She didn’t mind the cold she she naturally was, and it was hard for her to sleep being covered up because it made her feel restrained and that caused bouts of panic to set in. She glanced over to see if Simikiel was awake - very gently shaking him if he wasn’t yet - before getting up and making her way into the attached bathroom of their hotel bedroom. She stripped out of her nightshirt along the way and then undergarments, not bothering to close the door behind herself and instead leaving it open in invitation for Simikiel to join her if he wished: it wasn’t like the pair hadn’t seen each other completely naked before, and she was one-hundred percent comfortable being as such around her Simi. She turned the shower on, adjusting the temperature to something warmer if Simikiel was joining her, or leaving it colder if it was just herself, before stepping in and washing herself up quickly but thoroughly with unscented soaps - preferring them to the scented soaps that reminded her of times she’d much rather forget altogether.

Once lathered up and rinsed thoroughly off, she’d step out of the shower and dry off her body and hair, running a quick brush through her short white strands as an afterthought before heading back into their bedroom and over to the dresser. As her usual she picked a sleeveless black turtleneck shirt, a pair of black pants that clung to her hips, and appropriate undergarments. After binding her chest in the usual bandages she dressed quickly, adding her weapons pouches and her Kirigakure hitai-ate loosely around her neck afterwards. Her bow and quiver of arrows were added lastly to her back before she headed out into the kitchen and grabbed up a piece of fruit, biting into it and finishing it off fairly quickly as she glanced at the clock: it was almost time to be heading out - Jihi preferring to be a tad bit early rather than risking being late. She didn’t want to lose the privilege of taking missions after all in Konohagaure. ”Are you ready, Simi?”

When questioned on whether he would be up for a mission that, unlike most of genins, started at eleven o’clock at night and ending at seven o’clock in the more, Simikiel readily agreed to it. A part of it was having to do with the individual who asked, that being his Snowflake, Jihi. It comes to no surprise, who have been around him along enough, to know when it came to that woman, Simikiel would always be available for her beck and call. He would stop whatever he may be doing to help Jihi with whatever she wishes. There was no grumbling nor expectations of being compensated for him. He did it without complaint, and from an unwavering love and devotions for the woman. For he would do anything for the woman, even when not asked.

That is why, instead of venturing out during the day, he having some inclinations of wanting to head to a nearby sparring area with Jihi. For, he had realized that to protect his Snowflake, he had to become strong. Because, as it stands right now, she was the strongest of the pair. Not like he was envious of that, he just wanted to stand on the same footing as her. How can he protect her when he is not as strong, or stronger than her. Hence, the reason why he wanted to head toward the sparring area, and have Jihi to help training and gain experience dealing with weapon user, something he found out he lacked due to the encounter with his mother. She, Jihi, was the only sparring partner that he trusted in pushing him beyond his limits without causing serious, or potentially serious, harm to his body.

However, any plans of going to the sparring area were put on hold and not brought up, after Jihi mentioned the night patrol mission. He had decided on the next day that they were not doing anything, he would bring up the topic regarding training then. He is wanting to be sure Jihi would have no problem in helping train. They both were similar in the regards of how much they cared for one another. So, if one of them needed a training partner, the other would not hesitate in agreeing and helping. For, by helping one another, it will ease each other’s worries of the other dealing with a threat on their own.

With the trip to the sparring grounds on hold, Simikiel busied himself around their apartment. Taking some time out of the day to read some medical books he had borrowed from the local library, searching for ways to develop his lackluster skills.  Exploring different avenues in the medical field was something else he wanted to do. There have been tales of individuals and clans, who were able to replica varying diseases through their chakra, using certain bloodlines or elements to mess with the electrical pulses in the brain, using medical chakra to bypass the first two layers to attack the organs and tissues directly, etc. Such tales had greatly interested him. Therefore, he looked to the library to see if they had any more information regarding them - which they did. Only when Jihi mention taking a nap did he put down the books, and by the time he laid down, his eyes closed.

The gentle shaking of Jihi woke Simikiel up from his slumber; his eyes fluttering open, looking at the woman beside him “Time already?”, He inquired, sitting up, stretching and yawning, his eyes never leaving from Jihi as she stripped out of her clothing. Standing up, a shiver running down his spine from the coolness of the floor, Simikiel followed Jihi’s example, removing all article of clothing, and followed her into the shower.

“You don’t have to do that, Snowflake.”, he spoke, right hand atop of hers, stopping her from setting the water to a warmer temperature, “I can handle some cold.” Leaning forward, he places a kiss on her cheek. Smiling warmingly, Simikiel washed with the same unscented soap Jihi used. Though the shower was quick, it did not stop him from making small talk. Stepping out of the shower, Simikiel used a towel to dry off his body and her before stepping into the bedroom, still very much nude. Taking a brush, Simikiel brushed his rather long green hair and setting it in a long hanging ponytail. Moving towards the dressers, Simikiel picked out an outfit for the mission.

“Snowflake.”, He spoke while slipping on a pair of black ninja-esque pants, having already put on a pair of boxers, “On our next day off, care to help me train?” figuring it was a good idea to ask her now than maybe forget to later on. With his pants and footwear on, Simikiel put on a black turtleneck shirt that, unlike Jihi, had long sleeves. Grabbing his Kirigakure headband, e tied it around his forehead and followed Jihi into the kitchen.

Making into the kitchen, he grabbed an apple and ate it quickly. There was no time to savor the fruit; it was nearing the time for them to start their mission. Tossing the apple core into the trash can, Simikiel nodded at Jihi’s question, “Yeah, I am ready.”, with those words spoken, he grabbed the keys to their hotel and followed Jihi outside.

...Such an angel you are, my Simikiel…

Jihi couldn’t help but to smile gently as she felt Simikiel’s hand upon her own as he gently stopped her from turning the water hotter, and heard his words: his comment about being able to handle a little cold would have made her giggle if she weren’t distracted by the gentle feeling of his lips on her cheek as he placed a kiss there. Considering his words she left the temperature a bit on the cool side, washing up before stepping out and being dried. Once dressed and with a bit of food on her stomach she listened to Simikiel’s request, her smile appearing once more on her face. ”Of course, Simi. I’d be glad to.”, she commented automatically: no truer words spoken. She had absolutely no issues in helping him with training, wanting him to become as strong as possible. She also figured that the more they knew about how each other could move and fight the better they would work as a team, as a duo, when it came to having to work together in the real thing.

...Alright, let’s go make some money…

It didn’t escape her notice how they dressed so similar, but her focus was drawn off of that as Simikiel mentioned that he was ready to go. She gave a nod of response, focusing on the task ahead, getting her head in the same so to speak. With her weapons and everything already on her that she was bringing with just in case she exited the hotel room, pausing to wait for Simikiel and to make sure the door was locked - not that anything of value was being left behind to be stolen after all.

Afterward she led the way out of the hotel and to the meeting point, their earlier exploration allowing Jihi to move with confidence and ease as she traversed the streets of Konohagakure she had begun to become all too familiar with. The meeting point for the groups that would be patrolling wasn’t far, and it was more than easy to make it within five or so minutes by utilizing the rooftops and such as a means of travel when needed.

Jihi came to a stop nearby the special jounin handing out assignments. ”Mu, Jihi, and Mu, Simikiel reporting for duty.”, she explained simply, figuring there was no point in beating around the bush - it wasn’t that they were late, but Jihi wanted to get started. She had little need for idle conversation with strangers most of the time, and this just happened to be her mindset now. Thankfully, as she assumed, they were paired together and the special jounin handing out assignments handed them a copy of their route which Jihi took a moment to look at before walking off in the general direction, knowing Simikiel would follow her. ”This won’t be too bad, then. It’s a complete loop.”, she commented softly, loud enough for just Simikiel to hear.

...Now who would be sneaking around at this time of night…

Once they reached the start of their route Jihi didn’t waste time in getting started, making idle soft spoken conversation with Simikiel as they walked, all the while keeping a look out for anything that was out of place or suspicious. For several hours things were quiet, until about three o’clock in the morning when Jihi paused as she heard a clang from a nearby alleyway, heard a cat screech, and then watched as the feline darted out of her hiding spot and across the street to find another place to hide. Yet, it wasn’t the cat she focused on, but rather the young sounding voice that she heard let out a curse word from the mouth of the alley way. ”Come on out…”, Jihi called out, her hand resting near her weapons pouch just in case, though she assumed this to be nothing more than a child out past curfew. Sure enough that was what emerged, a young looking Academy student from the build of the kid who was definitely out past his bedtime. ”Got a name, kid?”

“Lee, ma’am.”, the kid responded, edging closer but still keeping quite a bit of distance. He looked scared, obviously expecting to be in trouble since he had been caught.

”Why don’t you head on home, Lee. Save yourself from getting into trouble, eh?”, Jihi spoke, deciding to give the kid a break. The kid was more than willing to take it, nodding to her, bowing to the both of them, and then taking off like he had been shot out of a canon as he rushed on home, obviously glad he hadn’t just got into trouble.

Jihi watched until he disappeared before smiling, glancing at Simikiel, and giving a nudge of her head in the direction they had been moving in. ”I figured maybe he deserved a break… poor kid looked like he was going to pee himself…”, she explained, giving Simikiel a chance to respond before continuing on with the conversation they were having before the interruption. Thankfully, the rest of the night went without issue, and upon turning in a report of no issues Jihi then headed home, figuring that both her and Simikiel could use a bite to eat and perhaps a short nap before doing some training.

. . .I knew you would agree.

Sometimes Simikiel wonders why he even bothered in asking a favor from Jihi when the answer was already known by him. There had been no doubt in his mind that she would help him in becoming strong. Thought, for the briefest of moments, he wonders if she realized the real reason why he wanted to be stronger? That, she, Jihi, was the sole reason why he wanted to improve his skills enough to be able to confidently walk beside her as an equal, and protect her from all threats which wished to harm. Nothing in his life was as important as the woman who has saved him.

Some sought strength for their selfish desires, and self-preservation of oneself, Simikiel did not. In his eyes, his life is meaningless. Such a bleak, fatalist outlook being something he did not share with Jihi, but he would not be surprised if she already expected something along the lines from him. Nevertheless, unless confronted by her, Simikiel will never speak about it willingly. While it might be wrong to hide something like this from her, considering everything the pair have gone through together, he felt it was for the best. He did not want to give her something else to potentially worry about when she is already dealing with other stuff - like vengeance.

That being a topic which he never brings up. But, truthfully, there was no reason to talk about Jihi’s thirst for vengeance against those who have done wrong by them. It was a path darkness that she is not doing along, for he was walking beside. Apart of him going along with her to make sure she did not lose herself along the way, but also because, he had scores to settle as well. His mother is still out there somewhere, and most likely, continuing running the slave ring operation which she helped found. She was someone who Simikiel hope was never caught or killed by anyone except his or Jihi’s hands. The woman has been the cause of everything bad that had occurred in their lives. It would be unjust if she did not die by one of their hands.

Before his musing could continue, his eyes flickered over to Jihi who was now ready to start the mission. With keys in hand, Simikiel followed his companion out of their complex. Stopping long enough to lock the door behind them before catching up to Jihi who had waited for him. Now caught up with her, Simikiel followed her as they made their way to the meeting area. Along the way, he noticed how comfortable his companion was as they moved through the village. The night was clear, lacking any clouds, allowing the stars to shine through in all of their brilliance, and the lunar rays from the moon to wash over them. There were a few civilians out and about, partaking in nightly activities that were none of his concern. He did not care what they did.

Reaching the destination, Simikiel fell into his supportive role perfectly, allowing Jihi to handle talking to the Special Jounin. Once the information had been handed out, Simikiel followed Jihi along the designated route, having noticed it was a loop as well “Sound simple enough.” As the two made idle talk, Simikiel allowed his kekkai genkai to take over. The green earring was making a small chime, sending sounds out in radius to determine who was around them. Several hours passed by with nothing of interest happening. It was only around three o’clock till something happened.

His head turned towards a nearby alleyway as a car darted out from the dark corner. It was not the cat that he was focused on, but rather, the child, who Jihi promptly called out. Simikiel watched as Jihi handled the situation with the child, and once down, followed her, “Yeah, everyone deserves a break now and then.”, He spoke. The conversation returning to it once was as they finished up their nightly round.
