Mission:

Akashi had been up before the sun gave its first light upon Konoha. He had just finished packing a few day’s change of clothes and a sleeping bag. It had only been a few days since Akashi arrived at Konohagakure, but it was soon time for the shinobi to leave once again, albeit this time he would only be away from his newfound home for a few days. Yesterday, Akashi had received a mail containing the details of his first mission as a Konoha shinobi. The red haired shinobi’s mission was to explore the land of Fire and act as a cartographer substitute. The administration building was expanding its records of the land, but was unable to hire professional cartographers. Due to the recent destruction of Sunagakure no sato the whole world was engulfed in fear. No man or woman dared to travel lands and forsake the warm beds and comforting security that shinobi villages offered, only shinobi themselves were brave— or foolish— enough to travel alone. Among the shinobi ranks in Konohagakure no sato, no group were as willing to brave the lands and prove themselves worthy of ascending the ranks than the ripe genin, who had yet to embark on their first mission; among the eager genin was Akashi Hibana.

To the young man who endured brutal training forced upon him by former ANBU captains, samurai generals, and the elite shinobi of the Hibana clan it was an insult to be simply ranked a genin. Akashi understood that in the eyes of the many jounin amongst Konohagakure he was simply another eager genin with abilities and training only boasted on paper… yet even with his understanding of the situation, he couldn’t hide the fact that his pride was damaged by the rank of genin given to him. He was unproven; which is why he now set out to prove himself deserving of a more prominent rank. The mission, itself, was simple and would not warrant much reward for Akashi, but it wasn’t the mission that the Hibana eyed; exploring the Land of Fire allowed the Hibana a golden opportunity to find ways in order for him to prove himself to the shinobi of his village and ascend through the ranks.

The opening of Konohagakure’s main gate marked the start of a new day and the beginning of Akashi’s first mission.

Finally making his way back into the wilderness of Konohagakure no sato, the shinobi reached out to a compass. Akashi sought to travel to the southeast border of Hi no Kuni, a distraught place with the recent destruction of Sunagakure. The border took in shinobi and citizens from the extinct village and promised to give them new residence within the Country of Fire. The Hibana wondered if his father had anything to do with the aid given to the refugees, but more importantly; he wanted to finally be able to do something with the abilities he had been trained with other than cut grass. The border was a perfect place for the eager Akashi to fulfill his desire to do real shinobi tasks. With the current state of emergency, the Konoha shinobi stationed at the borders would need all the help they can get to maintain peace and order with the thousands of people coming by each day.

The Hibana hoped to arrive by the southeastern border within two days of travelling. He moved quickly, hopping from one branch of wood to another. With his current pace, he was set to arrive at the south eastern border by nightfall, though that would only be the case if he would travel non stop towards his destination. Akashi had to make a small detour. He looked for a vantage point, one that would allow him vision of the surrounding lands. The Hibana’s golden eyes sparkled with glee as they spotted a tall green hill in an open field. Whilst making his way towards the hill, he grabbed a small, folded, piece of paper from his pocket. He unfolded the blank sheet and took a piece of charcoal from his other pocket. While having no initial interest in creating maps, the mission was still something he had to fulfil… after all, he did willingly accept the mission.

Akashi set his eyes on the horizon. The sun had now reached its peak, it was noon. Without knowing it, hours had already passed since the shinobi had left for the border. Akashi sat atop the hill and lay the blank paper on his lap. He set his sights east, looking for any points of interest. He wasn't so sure how far he had gotten from Konohagakure. A small village by a river looked to be a perfect land mark. Finally finding an anchor, he took out his map and gauged he distance that he had managed to travel so far. The South eastern border was miles away, yet it did not affect him. He would get there eventually. More importantly, he had to finish his assigned mission. Akashi compared the store bought map of Hi no Kuni in his hands to the actual land before him, looking for any differences. A dirt road linked to the small village was absent from the map.

Unable to find anything else, he proceeded to imitate the map, but this time with the newly founded dirt road. With his task complete, the Hibana decided to pack his bags and followed the dirt road towards the village. Akashi gave a messenger from the village and addressed it to the administration village in Konohagakure with his name.
