Zinan

Zinan

D-rank
Zinan was wandering around the festival’s corridors when he spotted a few yokai garbed in security uniforms rummaging around through the trash. It was an odd sight to see, for sure, but the two yokai were clearly searching for something. Finishing up the candy that he was eating, Zinan walked over near the two. “Excuse me, gentle-yokai. Is there something that I may be of some assistance to you?” The two yokai nodded enthusiastically and explained to Zinan about the mischievous nekomata that were stealing ryo and other items from festival goers. They asked Zinan if he could help track the most recent suspect down; he was a nekomata that looked like a large Siamese cat, with its tail split down the middle. Each tail had a small tuft of spirit fire at the end of it. The security personnel asked for Zinan to catch the nekomata and to beat some sense into it.

Zinan agreed to help the security force and headed off towards the other end of the stalls. There was no way that the nekomata was near the place where it last stole from; that would be foolish and would surely result in its capture. He did not know much about nekomata but he knew that bakenekos were more intelligent than their mundane cat counterparts. He was not a cat person, in fact, he despised cats. This little request for help would be all the more satisfying, as he gets to put some feline something in its place.

Knowing that the first step to an investigation was surveillance, Zinan quickly hid himself amongst the rambling festival goers. He reached the far end of the stalls, stepped off of the path, and, using the crowd for cover, Zinan flashed a dog, boar, and ram handsigns, before disappearing with a poof. Where he stood a second before was now a small shrubbery. Zinan waited and hoped to see if a nekomata would scamper by him.

Zinan did not have to wait too long, for only mere minutes had passed by before a split-tailed cat ran past him. With another cloud of smoke, Zinan reappeared and took off after the nekomata. The cat yokai would not get away from him. Zinan reached behind his back, to his left hip, and reached into his equipment pouch. With his nimble fingers, Zinan deftly pulled at the end of the wire spool and looped it through the center hole of a shuriken. He pulled the shuriken from his equipment pouch and held it in his left hand. With his right, he pulled his tanto from its sheathe on his right shoulder.

Zinan chased the nekomata, yet to be seen, though the different stalls of the festival. The distance between them slowly shrank to a manageable engagement distance. With a flick of his left wrist, Zinan launched the shuriken from his hand. With a whir, the wire attached to the shuriken spun out of the equipment pouch and slid through Zinan’s hand. The shuriken neared the nekomata. It was thrown wide to the cat spirit’s left. Zinan dropped one of his fingers down to the wire and the hairs that are unique to his clan gripped the wire. He channeled chakra into the wire and used it to guide the wire and shuriken back towards the right. The shuriken crossed in front of the nekomata’s legs and looped around them. Zinan grasped the wire with the rest of his hand and pulled the wire. The shuriken and wire wrapped tightly around around the cat spirit’s right rear leg; the shuriken embedded half of an inch into its leg. With all of his strength, Zinan pulled the wire.

With a hissing shriek, the nekomata hit the ground and tried to fight its way out of the wire. Zinan, however, did not give the cat spirit enough time to get out of the entangling wire. He leaped onto the nekomata and placed his knee into the spirit’s neck. As deftly as he could, he stabbed his tanto into the ground and wrapped the wire around it as tight as he could, hopefully pinning the cat spirit to the ground.

Zinan slammed his fist into the cat spirit’s face. The spirit hissed and tried to scratch at Zinan’s face. The genin would not let that happen; he grabbed hold of the cat’s paws and pinned them under his legs. He continued to punch the cat spirit in its face and gut. When the nekomata stopped fighting back, Zinan ceased his barrage of fists. He quickly bound the spirit’s front and rear feet together. “We’ve had enough of this thieving. You and your gang need to get out of here.” He waved the two security spirits over and let the two of them take care of the spirit. They thanked him profusely and begged him to continue to enjoy the festival.
