The Mission:

The evening sky was a calm cloudless grey blue as Ginza walked out of his tiny apartment to head to the newest job that he had received a missive for. It was one that all shinobi typically took part in at least once as a shinobi of Konohagakure, and he was a little surprised that it had taken so long for him to be placed in that role. Not that he minded, of course. Working for the hospital as a medical shinobi was one of the first things that he enjoyed doing as various missions. But being a gatekeeper for the village paired with another shinobi would have to be fun, or at the very least interesting, he hoped. It was a job that he knew that he probably would be on again several times in the future, but he didn’t mind at all. It was a time to people watch, and sometimes that was a good thing when one was as Ginza was, intelligence and espionage based.

So, there was a small smile on the man’s impassive face as he locked his door and turned to walk towards the front gate of the village, eagerly awaiting the meeting with his partner who would be showing him the ropes for the typical Gatewatcher position. His partner for this first time was a Jounin by the name of Kubo that he had met a couple times. The higher ranked shinobi seemed to be a bit of a klutz, always coming to the hospital to get himself patched up. But, Ginza didn’t really mind him, of course. The other was actually decent with his job and he wasn’t loud and obnoxious. So as finally got to the gate, the evening settling into the darkness of night, only lit up by the city and streetlamps and saw  the other man in standing in the gatehouse, he lifted a hand to wave to him in greeting.

“Ginza!” Kubo responded brightly in his greeting, lifting his hand to wave to the other man as he approache, and Ginza looked over Kubo,  taking in his appearance. The slightly older man looked a little tired, probably from back to back shifts like he had been having to pull at the hospital lately. There were dark circles under both of their eyes. He gave the man with short dark brown hair and bright blue eyes a small smile as he moved to stand next to him, standing a few inches taller than the other man as he waited for the other to inform him what they were going to be doing for the day, not that he had any expectations for anything particularly exciting.

After a few moments of just letting the calm of being stationed where they were washed over them, Kubo finally moved into action, pulling out a few papers and handing them to Ginza to read over. When the blond took them and began to read them he found that they were a basic rundown of what the position entailed. Of course, he already knew most of  what was expected from them from the missive, but it was good to see the things written down in detail. He did pay more attention the the information that involved passports and making sure that they didn’t let anyone into the village with the proper paperwork. It was to be expected.

Nodding, Ginza handed the papers back as the other pulled out another book to show him. This book held different papers that had been designated as items that were and were not acceptable within the bounds of the village. As well, as the members that had been unlucky enough to have their names placed into the Bingo Book of all things. And Ginza personally found himself hoping that he wasn’t going to come into contact with a nuke-nin of all things while at his post here at the Gatehouse. He really wanted this to be more of a simple job. Time to relax in comparison to running around the hospital as he commonly did while working at the hospital.

“Seems like a relatively straight forward job here.” Ginza hummed as he set the book back down onto the counter before looking out of the village towards the trees, and it was Kubos turn to nod. "Yeah, it's pretty simple. Not much to worry about." It was the truth. A simple guarding task that rarely if ever had challenges beyond anything C-rank. When it did, they normally would be able to request for higher ranking Shinobi to come to their aid. Next time that Ginza would be going on this mission, he’d be going on it with another Genin or Chuunin, rather than a Jounin of all things.

The rest of the night went smoothly, which Ginza was incredibly grateful for. There were some shinobi returning to the village, some merchants, and some straggling tourists, but beyond that there weren’t many others, and there certainly hadn’t been any trouble makers aside from one particularly drunk tourist that they managed to shoo along with his friends. Ginza would have been utterly nonplussed had something really negative happened. He’d been looking forward to an easy night, and that was what the two sleep deprived shinobi had been given thankfully.

So, when it finally came time for the next shift to start, Ginza and Kubo happily handed off the gatehouse to the next two and headed out. Kubo and Ginza didn’t quite part immediately, finding themselves at a late night tea house and simply enjoying each other's company as they discussed some things before heading out in their different directions to go to their own homes. It was a relief for the genin when he finally did make it home, toeing off his shoes before heading towards his bed and falling into it in the early hours of the morning to get some much needed sleep.
