Seiryū

Mission File – Leaky Intelligence:

When he first received the mission dossier – his next mission in a list that would grow vastly over time – Seiryū knew the best way about tackling the mission was to go in the dead of night. Any idiot would be able to figure that much out, considering the task at hand required whoever was taking the mission to infiltrate a compound and secure documents that were of the utmost importance. Going in guns firing and during daylight hours just screamed having a tough time and allowing the gang to extract the documents before Seiryū even had a chance to locate the building in which they would be keeping such records. The difficult task wasn’t exactly locating the tent itself, but rather finding a way of silently getting to it, grabbing the documents, and leaving the vicinity without being spotted at all. Knowing that killing of some of the gang members was inevitable, he’d have to make sure that things would remain relatively quiet, such that he could continue onward without being caught. To make the overall task even simpler, Seiryū knew that leaving would have to be just as quiet as his entrance, maybe a bit more difficult if the gang members caught on to a new presence in their makeshift camp.

With the evening slowly rolling over to the night, the sun’s presence becoming a non-factor for Seiryū’s mission, the silver-haired shinobi of Sunagakure no Sato began making his way up the hill of sand that overlooked the crater in which the rogue gang had set up their base of operations. The crater was large enough for the gang to house the majority of their forces, the number of which Seiryū was currently unsure of. As he neared the top of the hill, Seiryū crouched and slowed his pace down. Currently, he held no desire to make his way down the crater and begin his endless search of the documents he needed to recover. Rather, he’d take his time scouting out the scene and gathering a rough estimate of the number of enemies he would be dealing with. He highly doubted he possessed enough arrows to take them all down, but he’d be able to reuse his projectiles by recovering them; it was inevitable as he would need to hide any bodies and in the process be able to reacquire his arrows. The journey upward didn’t take too long and he didn’t have to worry about enemies yet, seeing as how Seiryū hadn’t climbed up the side where the gang had carved out an entrance.

The short fifteen second journey upward allowed Seiryū to see over the apex of the crater, Seiryū’s purple orbs now being witness to the dimly illuminated camp in the Endless Dunes of Suna’s wilderness. The amount of tents in the area amounted to sixteen, meaning that Seiryū needed to filter out tents that likely wouldn’t have the documents. One of them had to stand out; likely the ones near the center would contain the dossier Seiryū needed to acquire. The ones further out on the perimeter were unlikely; more so the ones closest to the entrance. In all honesty, the ones Seiryū had ruled out could just as easily contain the list. Thus, the only way he would get the necessary information was to extract it from one of the gang members; Crota likely could help him convince someone to speak.

Sixteen tents and roughly forty men were currently the number Seiryū had reached in regards to the enemy forces. None seemed to be anything special, nor were there any that particularly stood out to the Sunagakure no Sato archer in terms of whom would pose a threat to him, should he actually get caught. However, getting caught meant that the entirety of their forces would be searching for him and combat would be inevitable. Seeing as how each individual was either carrying a katana or a bow and arrows – some with both – Seiryū would need to mix up his approach so that he wouldn’t be caught in an unfavourable situation. Surveying the crater and their patrols would only help him out a tad, but it was better than going in blind. He knew if he utilized his bow and arrow, it would need to be a ‘one hit, one kill’ scenario. Letting someone get injured and call for help would immediately set himself up for failure.

Carrying an extra weapon with him felt odd, the addition of Crota’s weight and its positioning felt entirely off for the time being. Knowing he would grow used to it over time, Seiryū sought this mission as both a test of his skills and learning to adapt to having Crota carried along with him. If it was a single blade there would be less issues, but the main issue lay not with the blades but the red connecting rope that was vital to the Hungering Blades’ ability. It was unlikely that Seiryū would be actually able to test out the Hunger of Crota, but that could be saved for another day; a day where he could train with the intention of testing out his newest weapon instead of having to worry about being silent in his mission. Ultimately, the weapon would only help him out in a scenario where he was caught in close quarters, for it was only then that he could see himself drawing out the blades for combat. Otherwise, a well-placed kunai or senbon to the throat would suffice for the job.

Noting the four watchtowers at each corner of the squared out perimeter, Seiryū knew that getting in would only be slightly difficult. There was no fence that would obstruct him – not that one would be much of an issue anyways. The main problem laid in the fact of getting in unspotted and the watchtowers which had a single guard each; manning a spotlight, would be the biggest threat so far to Seiryū’s mission. His first goal, he decided, was at least removing one of the spotlights from the equation; and then perhaps sniping off the other guard at the opposing spotlight. Or perhaps a kunai could do a similar job and not require Seiryū to scale up the watchtower. That, he decided, would be a decision to be made once he got there and was able to assess the scenario in present-time, when Seiryū wasn’t trying to read thirty seconds in to the future. With the decision made, Seiryū silently climbed over the apex of the crater and began his downward journey, making sure to avoid the spotlights.

Scaling down crater had been a simple enough task that by the time Seiryū had reached the bottom, there was still nothing he immediately needed to worry about. From henceforth, being around enemies meant that he needed to remain as quiet as possible, such that he could sneak in to grab the reacquired documents and then ultimately sneak back out. Finding an escape route could prove difficult if Seiryū was caught, but it would be something he would need to worry about later, when actually escaping the compound became a priority. Scaling up the crate could be slightly difficult due to the steep climb, but it wasn’t anything chakra couldn’t overcome; seeing as how the academy taught everyone the Supernatural Walking Practice – though Seiryū himself hadn’t attended the academy, it was something the Kōga taught their young from an early age.

Turning his attention for the watch tower that was only a few feet away, Seiryū’s purple orbs quickly searched the surrounding proximity to see if anyone else would see him climbing up. It was likely they would see him, unless they happened to be particularly close to the watchtower and from the noise alone, that Seiryū keenly listened to, there didn’t seem to be anyone, except the guard in the tower, within thirty meters. With no one else to worry about in his direct vicinity, Seiryū began scaling up the sole ladder that gave one access to this particular watchtower. The most beneficial part of this would be removing one of the spotlights, as well as the possibility of gaining intel from the single party located in the tower. Silently scaling up the wooden ladder proved slightly difficult, for it was definitely an old one at that, but it would place him directly behind the guard in a decent position that would allow Seiryū to threaten him.

The moment he reached the top of the ladder, Seiryū grabbed the sole guard on the spotlight and instantaneously put him in a chokehold; Seiryū’s right arm sliding around his neck, while his left grabbed his fist to tighten the hold. His goal wasn’t to render the man unconscious just yet, so the force behind the hold was still weak, but was near impossible for the much weaker guard to escape.

In the utmost quiet voice, Seiryū would ask the sentry a single question, but the only one that Seiryū actually needed answered to complete his mission. “I’m only going to ask you this once. Where are you keeping the list of Suna-nin?” Seiryū’s hold weakened for the man to actually voice out a reply, but it seemed he had no desire to reply. Reapplying more pressure to the lookout’s larynx, as if to tell the man his fate and provide him with a chance to redeem himself, Seiryū let his hold weaken once more for the guard to recover and provide an answer.

“Fu… you… you… bas…” Seiryū refortified his hold, this time with no intention of letting the guard get out of it alive. It was up to him to complete the mission as he saw fit, and this lookout’s death happened to make its way on to the list. Whoever they were, for whatever purpose, their death was warranted for being a threat to his village – no matter if they had a family or not. Letting go of the newly dead body, easing him down in the corner of the tower, Seiryū’s attention turned back to the camp. He needed to find another guard, hopefully one that would actually speak.

Two tent and five more guards had given Seiryū the same result as the first one, each guard not uttering out a word of coherence – two had been similar to the first by choosing a select few words to attack their killer. Each body he had taken time to hide, at least put them out of the way with a conveniently located dumpster. Others had been put in one of the tents that acted as their barracks; though putting dead bodies in bed was a bit off-putting, though each kill committed had been due to necessity. When it came to completing the mission and what it entailed in terms of potential problems should the documents be spread further, there was even more pressure to complete the mission and make sure the Suna-nin in other countries would be safe for a while longer.

Crouching around the compound to minimize his footsteps further, venturing around the compound was excruciatingly slow, but it let him absorb more information than if he was rushing around. While Seiryū hadn’t been able to pick up interesting conversations so far, there still remained the possibility of coming across something of interest. No matter how he saw it, there had to be someone talking regarding the documents and what exactly would be done with them.

Having gone through his third tent of the total of sixteen, and still having not come across anything of use, Seiryū instantly came to a halt, not exiting the tent due to hearing footsteps and voices approaching his current location. Slowly shifting so that he could instantly hid in the corner of the tent should they enter this specific one, he kept his ears open to know where they would be going and what they were talking about.

“Come on Kido, you know exactly what we’re getting out of this deal.

“I know exactly what we are getting out of this…” There was a pause, there footsteps getting louder, but they were still a few meters away… fifteen or so. “What I don’t get is why we are doing it inside the village. Don’t you think that the Mystical Glass Museum’s security will catch on?”

The Mystical Glass Museum? What exactly were they going to do there?

“That’s the point, Kido. More security means less in the way of things going wrong for us. All we’re really doing is trading copies of the list for a sum of ryo, a simple exchange of brief cases.”

Their footsteps stopped just outside the tent, just two meters away from the entrance to the tent. Seiryū listened, taking note of these details and storing them to let the administration office know. They would know how to deal with this newfound information, but he still needed to find their original copy of the documents.

“Anyways, I’ll catch up with you later Kido. Going to grab a quick snack and head back to my tent.”

The two parted ways, the one claiming to grab some food being the one to walk away while the other stayed still for a moment before stepping toward the tent Seiryū was currently located in. The poor fellow barely had time to do anything, for the moment the tent flap came to a resting position was the moment Seiryū locked the one known as Kido in a chokehold. “If you want to live… you’ll tell me where you are keeping those documents.” His threat was partially true, excluding the fact that the male would die regardless. Seiryū would get his answer from Kido.

Needless to say, Kido had died in the process, but his death wasn’t in vain – at least for Seiryū and Sunagakure no Sato’s purpose. For Kido and his allies, well, it was likely there plans would be foiled one way or another. Surprisingly, Kido gave up the information without Seiryū needing to threaten him too much and even more surprising had been the fact that Seiryū was slowly getting closer to the tent he needed, for it was only two away from his current location. The moment he received word of where the document was, Seiryū had killed the man and made his way to the tent.

This tent was slightly different compared to the rest, in the sense that there was no light on inside of it, the only source of light coming from the outside. His search was done in relative peace and it didn’t take more than three minutes to find the offending documents. With the manila folder in hand, Seiryū’s task now remained in escaping the compound and reporting back his findings. It seemed as if his overall job for the task wasn’t done just yet, if his assumption was correct.
