Mission Briefing:

WC: 281

There they were...in the Kage's office cluttered with paper work, and unorganized things. How could he be organized? He was out for the day, having a whole village to govern and this woman was his replacement; sad. Daichi gazed the room more as the silky long black-hair woman spoke. "Daichi-kun" her voice was firm and broke his trance.

"O-oh. I'm sorry." he pardoned himself apologetically. "It's alright, I need you to concentrate. You'll be placed with Takao-sama for this trip." she stated, curling her bangs back to reveal her eyes more. She moved them to her left ear as she motioned to Takao; Daichi's gaze followed. It soon set on a fairly tall man, but about the same height as Daichi. Black; unkempt hair dangled over his Grey eyes. A set of dull, calm and stoned eyes. It looked like he didn't get any sleep, or was more-so bored. He didn't seem to muscular and his tone was average. He looked more like a street rat than a Jounin, but what could he say? Daichi wore a pair of baggy black pants, tied to his waist with a white sash that draped down. Usually he wore a black T-shirt under his green vest, tucked into his pants and a loosely fit green hoodie to cover it all. They both looked like the dynamic duo of the day...was it a sick joke?

Daichi couldn't help but let off a small grin. His expression was nothing but friendly, but who knew what he meant by it. The woman didn't make much of it, and started to wrap up the conversation. It was up to them now to handle what was given.

The prospect of being called in for a mission wasn’t something Takao was necessarily unfamiliar with, but in recent times he had certainly become unaccustomed to it. Between the injuries he sustained at the Gokage Summit all those years ago and the injuries inflicted upon him on the home front after returning to his duties as the Hokage, it had been quite some time since he was officially an active shinobi of Konohagakure. Of course, those injuries were little more than a minor deterrent when it came to acting out on his own, which he oft found himself doing regardless of the village’s rules and regulations. He didn’t have the restrictions of a respectable title to keep him in line, after all.

But with his leg healed and his subsequent reinstatement as a Jōnin, it seemed like the village wouldn’t be stalling with their usage of him. They had the decency to jump start him out on something small this time around; a simple bandit group genocide. It seemed to him as though for every little band of brigands and ruffians they struck down, two more would pop up, and the cycle would continue… yet it would be more detrimental to the country’s well being to simply allow for them to persist. Their intervention was necessary, if not futile to the bigger picture.

And so, here he was, standing in the Administration Building, dressed in attire that was entirely inappropriate for the task at hand, all the while sporting a facial expression that alluded to his desire to be elsewhere. Between the slate grey coloured light hoodie draped over his shoulders and the generic graphic tee beneath it, to the fitted dark blue jeans tucked into brown military-esque boots, Takao hardly looked the part of a Jōnin and was certainly not befitting attire for somebody who had once held a rank of impressive renown. But it was certain to bring false thoughts and underestimations about him, which was just what Takao preferred. The world was one big game of deception, and he was an avid player.

The briefing ran on for much longer than necessary, although he did laugh at the woman’s wording. “A trip?” Takao said, hands idly rolling up the sleeves of his hoodie before finding their way into its pockets. Hints of some kind of mechanical device strapped to his right forearm were clearly made visible in doing so, though he paid no mind to it. “You make it sound like a vacation. Nothin’ gets me more relaxed and chill than knockin’ some heads, eh?” He added, casting a brief glance toward Daichi. As the conversation was wrapped up and the briefing came to an end, Takao slumped his shoulders down and exhaled a sigh.

“Easy enough.” He said, turning on his heel and heading for the door. He raised his hand to wave to the woman, and beckon Daichi along. “We’ll be back within an hour.”

Now, Daichi was all for confidence. Especially when he showed signs of it left and right. Ambushes, secret missions, off-duty fights and more...mostly tested his morality and virtues. The Uzumaki was a very realistic man though and Takao seemed to be ahead of himself, maybe. 'An hour tops?' he thought, replaying it once more and now verbalizing it. "An hour? We have a whole group of them, Takao-sama." his voice trailed behind the Jounin as they exited the office. They were headed through the winding halls, down some stone stairs and toward the exit.

Surely he wasn't misconstruing something. Why would he put a Jounin and a Chuunin on if this wasn't going to be difficult. Daichi had never done a B-rank mission before and that's probably why. It wasn't for Takao's sake but his own. The location was in the rolling hills of Konohagakure's country, it was a few clicks north of the gates and was filled with prairie lands. Extremely beautiful on warm summer days and a bit intimidating during storms. Imagine a lightning storm and your in the center of an open field...heh. The last time Daichi had been on a mission was a few years back. His lonesome did the mission but it was only a mole infestation, helping an elderly couple who couldn't for themselves. The mission was ranked C, but surely the difference was here. How did that skip happen? Going from helping the garden to fighting a camp of bandits? Regardless, it was a nice warm up since he was back on track. The two had exited the building, walking to follow the dirt path to the village entrance. They had about ten minutes till they got there, maybe this was the time to talk? Who knew.

Despite the busy nature of the village, the Administration Building seemed relatively quiet. Only the staff tended to linger, and seldom did they do so in the hallways that ran through the large labyrinth like building. The lack of presence allowed for the soft thuds of Takao’s boots hitting the clean tile to echo as he walked, each step he took having purpose as he carried himself onward.

“An hour is more than enough time.” Takao responded matter of factly, his offhand already digging through his pockets the moment they stepped out of the administration building. “A few bandits are backin’ up a trade route. That’s nothin’ new.” He said, pulling two rectangular objects from his pocket. One was a carton of cigarettes, and the other an object akin to a cellular phone. One hundred years of relative peace since the fourth shinobi war had afforded the world many advancements in recreational technology. Fortunately, some of that technology came in handy on the job, such as the map that Takao was scrolling through as he walked.

“See, they’re ‘bout ten minutes outside of the village. We leave now, we’re there with like... forty five minutes left. Do you really think we’ll be fighting them for more than an hour? Hell, even more than half an hour? I don't wanna mess 'round with 'em for more than ten minutes anyway. Also, our objective is to “clear the sector”, and we haven’t been given explicit orders against using lethal force. That means we're fine to go all out.” Takao continued as he walked, tapping the bottom of the carton against the palm of his hand before shaking one of the sticks out. He pulled it from the carton with his mouth, and subsequently plucked it from his teeth to momentarily hold in his free hand. He exhaled a breath, and in doing so charged his breath with a spot of chakra, causing a wisp of flame to snap from his mouth and lick the end of the cigarette aflame. He placed it back in his mouth and let the embers burn the paper and tobacco, simultaneously offering one from the carton to Daichi.

“It’s all forests up there. If I didn’t have to worry ‘bout burning everything down, I’d just roast ‘em and we’d be done with it. Easy few hundred ryo. But I can’t imagine the Brass would like that, so… We’ll just have to do things the hard way.” Takao said, taking a long drag from the cigarette while walking. Whether Daichi took the offer or not, the carton and his phone would soon find itself back in Takao’s pocket, and one of Konohagakure’s many gates would soon be within view.

Takao’s right arm rose and his left hand set about checking the mechanisms of the device on his arm. The straps were tightened and fit his forearm snugly, although its complex outward design did little to hint at what its exact purpose was. “According to the report, they’re not using jutsu either. Just blunt weapons… So I ‘spose we do have that edge over ‘em.”

The streets were fairly busy unlike the Office. It seemed like everyone had it under control for a day. Even though the Kage was out, the village still ran without it's leader. It was invigorating in the sense of courage. Independence. Strength. Lastly, the Will of Fire. It wasn't one you could create but it was inside of you. It was the willful endurance within' yourself. Konoha possessed it and they brightly showed it everyday.

Takao seemed to have on of his own, spitting a flame to light his cigarette. The box shifted to Daichi to grab one, but raised his hand as to pass it off.

"Alright, ten minutes it is." Daichi agreed, shifted by a group of six kids running obnoxiously through the streets. People were on the go! Families were out, market's running...and it was a beautiful day. One of those not too hot-not too cold type of days, ya' know? "Then we'll refrain from using flames. I'll handle long range, if that's alright? I have Suiton and Futon' at my disposal." he carried on as he gathered a simple plot. His tactics weren't too extreme and still had an amateur sense of real ninja hood. Who knew though...Takao was obviously calling the shots.

There it was. The village's gate!

Konohagakure Gate:

It was connected to the large wall surrounding the city. Two large doors were swung open and two guard teams stood at each side. Kanji symbols were written on a stone trim around the top of the door. Directly in the center of that was the Konoha symbol, and on either side were Kanji. Two larger Kanji symbols were on the two large green doors, but the Chuunin had no idea what they were made from. Perhaps they educated them in the Academy but his mind had a feint idea.

It was a hole in the wall practically because on the top remained the same layer across. A yellow-tiled roof formed with overlaying slates together. Eventually it creates a run off by shaping a triangular peak all around. It was a magnificent structure...how could this have been created? The mysteries were unlimited but so were the possibilities.

They walked to the two guards on the right hand side. A blank expression sat on both their sorry mugs; guard duty. It was one of the most boring tasks, but very important. They got paid a pretty penny in total for doing it all the time, also dependent on shifts. The one man was sitting on a metal chair, leaned against the wall and watching the three intently. Daichi, Takao and the tall slender guard had gathered.

"Business gentlemen?" the one guard asked. Usually they were good to leave, sometimes they needed identification or reason of travel. "Aye, mission for the Lord Kage." he started on his small talk because they only had ten minutes.
