"Don't be alarmed at the length; a lot of this is optional reading."

The Naruto Saga Handbook
ALPHA V3.5 16.10.22

Welcome to Naruto Saga, Guest! We are happy to have you, and we promise with time and diligence, you will find Saga more than home!

We understand there is a large amount of information present on Saga, so this Handbook is meant to compress that information and structure it so you may have a more streamlined experience.

Most of this information has been taken from the set of Guidelines, which you can alternatively read here if you wish. That being said, extreme care has been taken to ensure this Handbook's contents are as precise as they can be to Saga's systems, guidelines, and rules.

This Handbook has been split into four distinct parts for your convenience: essentials, roleplaying (RP) electives, specialisation electives, and creation electives. The essentials section covers what you will need to know, from familiarising yourself to the Saga environment all the way to completely setting up your character, is considered compulsory, and should be read in order. The electives sections, on the other hand, cover different aspects of Saga, some more important than others, are optional, and can be read in any order.

WARNING: An exaggerated number of spoilers and tables have been needlessly exploited in the making of this Handbook.

That being said, let's kickstart the Handbook!

1. Before We Begin #0001

First off, you should be made aware of certain things about Saga. There is a Restricted and Banned List that you will want to check out here. Alternatively, an updated version as of 16.10.22 has been provided below:
Restricted and Banned List:
If you are unable to comply with the Restricted and Banned List, Saga may not be the ideal place for you. You are free to compaign for some of the aforementioned concepts to be unbanned, but please take it up with an administrator. Avoid complaining about anything that seemingly doesn't make sense, as it usually leads to disruptive behaviour, even if not on your part.

DO NOT argue with your fellow RPers, even if they are not one hundred percent supportive of your campaign. Other RPers may have already tried to campaign for the lifting of these bans, and may only be trying to warn you of the obstacles in your way. A positive and constructive attitude is crucial to enacting change; hounding your fellow RPers is the opposite.

Regardless, we promise that if you're willing to look past this list and make do with the vast Naruto universe still at your fingertips, you will find a treasure trove of creativity, affable friends, and captivating events on Saga.

Now that the Restricted and Banned List is out of the way, and you're still reading this, we assume that you're here to stay (good choice; ignore the haters). The first thing you may wish to have at your fingertips is lore, specifically what happened on Saga.

Saga History is where the most accurate records of Saga's history have been documented. Geographically, Saga takes inspiration from the following map, which depicts the geographical landscape of the Elemental Continents:
Elemental Continents Map:

2. Introducing Yourself #0002

While completely optional, you may introduce yourself here so the RPing community may get to know you.

Similarly, you may also inform others of your absence from the site with an absence post so that your fellow RPers can be informed of your prolonged leave from the site, rather than kept waiting.

Also, you get 10 ryo for posting in this section, so why avoid it?

Alternatively, you can introduce yourself in the Chatbox, which can either be accessed from the main page, or here.

3. Character Creation #0003

We all know you came to Saga to RP, and you will first need a character. To do that, you will need to fill in a Saga character template and have it approved by staff.

The Character Creation Guidelines is where you can find the full guidelines for creating your character.

To avoid a lengthy read as well as confusing bumps in the road, however, this Handbook will attempt to streamline your character creation process. A sample of a Character Application based on Naruto has also been added at the end of this section.

NOTE: You must use Saga's character creation template. Any other offsite template, however similar or thorough, will be rejected. Any missing portion of the character template, e.g. images, will also result in your application being rejected. Changing the position of the images, i.e. centering them or aligning them to the right, will also result in a rejection of your application.

Keeping that in mind, first head to the Characters page. You should start a thread in the Characters forum, not any of the sub-forums labelled 'Konoha', 'Suna', 'Iwa', etc. Topics within these sub-forums are locked, meaning you may not post or edit any topics within these sub-forums; your character's application will be moved to these sub-forums by staff after it has been completed. Again, start a thread in the Characters forum; the 'New Post' icon is located below all the aforementioned sub-forums.

You should be taken to a posting page. Assuming you've introduced yourself, this should look familiar. For standardisation purposes (you will be hearing this a lot), the thread should be your character's desired IC (in character, i.e. information regarding the character you want to RP as, not yourself) name in the following format [Last name], [First name] [WIP]. The [WIP] denotes that your character is a work in progress.

For example, if I wanted to make a character called Naruto Uzumaki, the title would be the following: Uzumaki, Naruto [WIP].

Copy and paste the following code into your thread:
Code:
[center][img]insert the URL link to your character's image here[/img][/center]

[b]Personality:[/b] Describe your character's personality. At least 200 words.
[b]Interests:[/b] What does your character like/dislike. At least 100 words.
[b]Motivations:[/b] What drives your character? What are their dreams/greatest fears? At least 100 words.

[b]History:[/b] Your character's history. At least 400 words. Note: It's standing site policy that experiments and such conducted in the character's history cannot affect them in any way but cosmetic. You may not start out with any weapons that you obtain in your history unless you take a pre-made Special Characteristic that grants you a free starting item.

[b]Face Claim:[/b] What is the name of the character you chose and what show is he/she from.
Now, we will not be going through everything on the Character Creation Template, as most of them are self-explanatory. However, there are certain things that we will touch on, and these are normally the questions most frequently asked by newcomers on Saga or common problems that staff finds in character applications.

And there you have it! The only thing left is to fill out the rest of the information located on the template, and all that takes is your limitless creativity!

As mentioned, a sample of Naruto’s character sheet can be accessed here.

While making your character, you'll want to keep in mind you may only have a maximum of +3 tiers of passive stat boosts from non-Taijutsu sources. These refer to those acquired from your clan, from your Special Characteristics, etc. but, as the name implies, not from your Taijutsu specialisation. An example has been provided below:
Passive Stat Boost Example:
Once you are done with your character, and have the satisfied word counts for every section (yes, this is meticulously and mercilessly checked and double-checked), you may remove the [WIP] label beside your name and post a link to your character application (the URL) at the Character Modding Requests. A Character Mod will be along shortly to review your character's application and request changes where necessary. If everything is in place, your character will be approved! Congratulations!

NOTE: You are unable to edit any detail of your application without staff permission once it has been approved. 'Editing' will no longer be an option after you have begun to RP with your character in any threads, following which you may only 'update' your character sheet. As such, kindly ensure that everything is in order before removing the [WIP] label and requesting for a check in the Character Modding Requests thread.

4. Character Kit #0004

Following the creation and approval of your character (yes, following, not during, though you can attempt this at your own risk), there are several things you need to do to gear your character up for the trials and tribulations ahead. These include your Stats, Items, and Jutsu, which will all be recorded down in their own respective forum pages.

We'll start off with your Stat page. You haven't been properly introduced to Stats yet, but that will be covered later as an elective. Here, we'll set your character up by rounding off the character completion process.

Stats

  • There are five main stats on Saga: strength, speed, endurance, perception, and reaction time. While a record of your stats exists on your character's sidebar, you need to personally keep track of your character's stats as well.

Head to the Training Stats page and start a thread for your character. For standardisation purposes, kindly name it [Last Name], [First Name] [Stats].

This page will be a simple stat tracker for your character, doubling as your only method of improving your stats. You just need to list out your current Strength, Speed, Endurance, Perception, and Reaction Time. Right now they should be at their lowest level, i.e. E-0, so put that down. Afterward, add separately any stat modifiers you might have, e.g. a +2 speed from your clan or the +1 strength from Taijutsu.

NOTE: Do not immediately compute the final rank and tier of your stat, i.e. stating you have E-1 Strength due to the Taijutsu boost. You must at least list out the base tier, E-0, before noting down any modifiers. This is to avoid complications that otherwise will arise. It’s also a good habit to detail the origin of your modifier, e.g. stating that the +1 to Strength is a result of your Taijutsu specialisation.

Rinse and repeat this for all five statistics. You may decorate the stat page however you desire, but the statistic, its base value, and any modifiers must be listed.

While you’re at it, you may want to set up your Specialisation and Element pages as well, respectively in the Training Specialisation and Training Elements pages. The idea is the same, listing out your Specialisations and Elements, their respective ranks, and any modifiers/relevant information.

Items

  • Next up will be your character’s items, which can be found in your character’s Item Locker. To create your locker, go to the Item Locker thread located here and start a thread for your character. For standardisation purposes, kindly name it [Last Name], [First Name] [Item Locker].

You may then add whatever items you may have to your locker. At Saga, you receive a small gift to start you off, and you may add these to your locker directly.

    • Hitae-ate (Forehead protector) x 1
    • Kunai x 1
    • Shuriken x 3 OR Senbon x 6

You may only choose three shuriken or six senbon. You may not choose both.

Obviously, there are templates for these items, and the filled-out template may be located from the items’ respective Catalogues. The hitae-ate may be found under Forehead Protectors, while the kunai, shuriken, and senbon templates may be found in the Weapons Catalogue.

If you want to add more items to your locker, you'll need to apply for them separately in the Items section.

Jutsu

  • What ninja would be complete without Jutsu? Rock Lee. A list of your character’s available jutsu can be found in your character’s Jutsu List, which you similarly have to create for your character.

Simply go to the Jutsu List thread. You should see a list of Konoha, Suna, Iwa, and so on and so forth. Click on the link affiliated with your character (i.e. if you’re a Suna ninja, click on Suna) and start a thread for your character. For standardisation purposes, kindly name it [Last Name], [First Name] [Jutsu List].

You may immediately add all Academy Jutsu to your Jutsu List, and they may all be used regardless of whether you have the necessary specialisations for them. Clan Jutsu, on the other hand, need to be individually trained as and when they become available, and remain restricted by your elements, specialisations, and rank.

Limitations to what jutsu you can use are as follows. You can only use a jutsu if it satisfies all the requirements below:

    • You have all the elements and specialisations required by the jutsu.
    • The rank of your specialisations match the rank of the jutsu.
    • The rank of your elements match the rank of the jutsu.
    • The jutsu is at most one rank higher than your ninja rank, unless you have clan bonuses.

As a gift from Saga, you are also receiving some free jutsu – 4 D-ranks and 1 C-rank, though you can trade 1 C-rank jutsu for 2 D-rank jutsu and vice versa. While you can also trade 2 C-ranks for 1 B-rank, it is highly inadvisable, as you will be left with a small repertoire of starting jutsu, and, as a Genin/D-rank, will likely be unable to use said B-ranked jutsu.

You may pick these five jutsu from the Jutsu Library, or you may create your own. Jutsu creation, however, will not be covered in this section.

And now, you’re truly done with setting up your character.

5. Mod Systems #0005

How administrative systems work on Saga is simple in nature, but might involve some work.

Any time you want staff to look at any of your applications, you must post in the appropriate Modding Requests thread with the link to your application. For the following threads, please read the instructions on the first page regarding posting your requests to minimise workload for staff:

  • Administrative Requests
Here is where you make requests that can only be done with administrator access. These include, but are not limited to, promotions, chakra modifications, and addition and deduction of ryo.

  • Character Modding Requests
While you shouldn’t need this thread any further, as you would have already completed your character, this thread has also been added here to round out the set.

  • Clan Modding Requests
As simple as the name itself, you should post here if you want to help with clan revamps, or if you want to get a custom clan of your own checked and approved by staff.

  • Jutsu Modding Requests
What will likely be your bread and butter on Saga, the Jutsu Modding Requests thread handles all requests to approve custom or canon jutsu.

  • Item Modding Requests
This thread is the item equivalent of the Jutsu Modding Requests, and can be used to seek approval for your weapon, armor, or item.

  • Training Modding Requests
This thread is where you post any request to check on training. It can be increasing the rank of your specialisation or element, or any one of your stats; requests to approve said increases must go here.

  • Mission Modding Requests
This thread is where you post requests to approve a custom mission, request to take an existing one (if necessary), or notify staff of your completion of a mission.

Again, read the instructions for each Request thread, as they may differ. Staff reserves the right to ignore any request made that does not fall in line with any instructions provided.

You also must post in these threads if you want something checked by a moderator. Even if you plan to ask them via chat or PM, a record of your request must be listed down in the thread before they are permitted to give your character/clan/item/jutsu a look.

And that sums up most of the essential knowledge to starting out on Saga! We hope you've found this as informative as we have tried to make it.

The rest of this Guide will deal with the electives, which you can read, if you so wish, at your own pace.

RP electives, as the name suggests, will deal with the different aspects to RPing on Saga. Specialisation electives will go more in-depth for the few specialisations that are more easily confused or less travelled. Creation electives will go through the basics of custom creations, with some tips and tricks provided.

We hope to see you around Saga! Happy RPing, and ciao!

6. Setting up Threads #0006

Now that you have your character, your items, and your jutsu, the first thing you might want to do is to finally begin RPing!

Your interactions with your surroundings and other people, i.e. RPing, whether they be your fellow RPers or NPCs, will all be done in threads. First, you have to know where your character is. If your character is a Konoha ninja, for example, you will begin automatically in Konoha. The same applies for Suna, Iwa, Kiri, and Kumo. Meanwhile, if you begin as a Wandering ninja, wherever your first thread begins will dictate the location of your ninja. Thus, if your Wandering ninja’s first thread is in the Land of Wind, he is located currently in the Land of Wind. This means that Wandering ninja have the advantage of beginning wherever they feel like, unconstrained at first by geographical limitations.

Now that you know where your ninja currently is, you can start a thread in that country (not just village). For example, beginning in Konoha would give you freedom to post a thread anywhere in Konohagakure or the Land of Fire.

You can have a solo thread, where you are the only PC (playing character) present, or a thread with someone else. You can often find someone willing to RP with you in the Chatbox, or you can post in the Find RP Partner section, located in the Saga Play page.

There are several labels you should be familiar with as you make your threads. The most commonly used are Private/Solo, Invite Only, Open/Public, No Kill, and Kill-Enabled.

  • Private/Solo
Private or solo threads mean that the thread should not be interrupted by anyone else. You are the only one who should be in the thread.
  • Invite Only
Invite Only refers to threads where others can post in only if they have been invited into it by the thread owner, as well as the other participants in the thread.
  • Open/Public
Open or public threads refer to those where anyone can join, regardless of if they have an ulterior motive, or simply want to socialise. Open threads are automatically kill-enabled, even if the 'No Kill' tag is used.
  • No Kill
No Kill threads refer to threads where killing is not allowed. You cannot die in these threads.
  • Kill-Enabled
Kill-Enabled threads are, as the name suggests, kill-enabled. The possibility of death is very real in these types of threads, and is in most cases encouraged for whatever reason. Threads are by default kill-enabled if ‘No Kill’ is not used as a label.

Other labels may exist, but listed above are the ones that are most commonly used. Also, you can use multiple labels together. For example, Private and Invite Only threads can refer to threads where the owner is the only one present, but others can join in if the owner allows them.

Also, a common label to add into the name of the thread would be the name of the person you're RPing with, assuming it's not a solo thread. Assuming my name is Harue and I wish to RP with my fellow RPer, whose character is called Jet, an example would be: A Chance Meeting [Invite Only | Jet | No Kill | Private].

Once you have begun a thread, what is left is to let your imagination fly wild, filling up your thread with posts, either alone or with others. Also, Saga has a very strong stance against ‘ryo farming’. ‘Ryo farming’ is the situation whereby each of your posts in a solo thread contain very few words, so that you will need many posts to finish your thread, thereby exploiting the 20 ryo per post that you get. While it is not illegal, it is extremely frowned upon, and staff members reserve the right to take action. While there’s no official ruling on the numbers required, an acceptable rule is to keep your posts above or around three hundred (300) words. It is also good practice so you may A) improve your writing, and B) maintain your RPing performance for others.

When you are done with your thread, do not forget to add a notice at the end of your thread, in your final post, stating that you are leaving the thread. Writing that your character has left the vicinity is not enough to leave the thread. Rather, you need to add a label like [Exit] or [Exit Thread] in your last post to signify that you have left the thread.

Do note that you may only have up to five threads of any kind at any one moment. This means that, at any one time, you can only be posting in up to five threads. This is to compensate for possible timeline issues that may come about, especially if what you do in one thread contradicts your motives in another. Regardless of whether you believe you can handle more than five threads, or you believe yourself to be able to chronologically arrange your threads, or whatever other reason, do comply with this rule.

Also, mission threads count as threads in their own right, meaning that if you have two missions that have yet to be processed by staff (meaning you have done them, but staff has not acknowledged your completion of the mission) you only have three free thread slots. It does not matter if those missions have been completed on your end, nor does it matter if you have exited those threads; as long as staff has not processed them, they remain on your active thread roster.

7. Ranking Up #0007

On Saga, there are six ranks in total. These are outlined in the Rank Rules page, and are as follows:
Genin/D-rank: You may typically train up to D-3 stats, use C-rank items, and use a total of 29 jutsu, capped at C-rank. As a missing-nin or a Wanderer, you are typically below the notice of a hidden village unless you do missions for them or commit crimes within their village.

  • You begin at this rank

Chunin/C-rank: You may typically train up to C-3 stats, use B-rank items, and use a total of 37 jutsu, capped at B-rank. To be promoted to this rank, you need to:

  • have Kage/admin approval
  • complete 3 missions, 1 of at least D-rank and 2 of at least C-rank (missing-nin or wanderers may defeat 3 ninja of their own rank or 1 ninja of a rank higher to fulfill this requirement; village ninja may only do the same with the village's enemies or missing-nin)
  • display prowess with jutsu (at least 1 D- and 2 C-rank jutsu more than your free jutsu)
  • display exceptional physical prowess (2 stats trained up to D-3 and 2 up to E-1) or all-around physical prowess (all stats trained to E-3)
  • interact on a regular basis with others (any 6 non-mission RP threads with at least one other character; each thread should elapse at least 2000 words with at least 3 posts per participant)

Special Jonin/B-rank: You may typically train up to B-3 stats, use A-rank items, and use a total of 45 jutsu, capped at A-rank (and 1 S-rank if your clan allows). To be promoted to this rank, you need to:

  • have Kage/admin approval
  • complete 3 missions of at least B-rank (missing-nin or wanderers may defeat 3 ninja of their own rank or 1 ninja of a higher rank to fulfil this requirement; village ninja may do the same with the village's enemies or missing-nin)
  • display prowess with jutsu (at least 1 D-, 2 C-, and 1 B-rank jutsu more than the minimum requirements for Chunin)
  • displays exceptional physical prowess (2 stats trained up to C-3 and 2 up to D-0) or all-around physical prowess (4 stats up to C-1)
  • interact on a regular basis with others (any 6 non-mission RP threads with at least one other character; each thread should elapse at least 2500 words with at least 3 posts per participant)

Jonin/A-rank: You may typically train up to A-3 stats, use S-rank items, and use a total of 53 jutsu, capped at A-rank, while 2 may be S-rank jutsu. To be promoted to this rank, you need to:

  • have Kage/admin approval
  • complete 3 missions, 2 of at least B-rank and 1 of at least A-rank (missing-nin and wanderers can defeat 3 ninja of their own rank or 1 ninja of a rank higher to fulfill this requirement; village ninja can do the same with the village's enemies or missing-nin)
  • display prowess with jutsu (at least 1 C-, 2 B-, and 1 A-rank jutsu more than the minimum requirements for Special Jonin)
  • displays exceptional physical prowess (2 stats trained up to B-3 and 2 up to C-0) or all-around physical prowess (4 stats up to B-1)
  • interact on a regular basis with others (any 8 non-mission RP threads with at least one other character; each thread should elapse at least 2500 words with at least 4 posts per participant)

S-rank: You may typically train up to S-3 stats, use SS-rank items, and use a total of 62 jutsu, capped at A-rank, while 4 may be S-rank and 1 may be SS-rank jutsu. To be promoted to this rank, you need to:

  • have Kage/admin approval
  • complete 3 missions, 1 of at least A-rank and 2 of at least S-rank (missing-nin and wanderers can defeat 3 ninja of their own rank or 1 ninja of a rank higher to fulfill this requirement; village ninja can do the same with the village's enemies or missing-nin)
  • display prowess with jutsu (at least 1 C-, 1 B-, 1 A- and 1 S-rank jutsu more than the minimum requirements for Jonin)
  • displays exceptional physical prowess (2 stats trained up to A-3 and 2 up to B-0) or all-around physical prowess (4 stats up to A-1)
  • interact on a regular basis with others (any 10 non-mission RP threads with at least one other character; each thread should elapse at least 3000 words with at least 6 posts per participant)

SS-rank: To be promoted to this rank, you need to:

  • be Kage
  • have admin approval

*Promotion to this rank is entirely up to administrators' discretion

Do note that any threads or missions performed at a lower rank do not count towards a further promotion, e.g. you may not use leftover words from a thread performed while you were Genin/D-rank to train stats while you are Chunin/C-rank, nor can you use extra missions or threads from your days as a Genin/D-rank to count towards a promotion to Special Jonin/B-rank.

8. Travelling #0008

Obviously, you aren’t expected to remain only in one village for the rest of your RPing career. You need to travel to other villages to meet new people and advance your plot! Travelling on Saga isn't difficult; rather it's quite straightforward, and can be read up on at the Thread Intervention and Travel Guidelines.

To travel, you must first request for permission to travel from the Kage of your village. This can be done by posting in the Kage Requests section of your village, normally found in the Administration Building within your village. If permission is denied, you are not allowed to travel to another country. If you still do so, you will be branded a Missing-nin and be hunted down by the ANBU.

Some villages have different policies on the release of travel visas to their ninja. Such information can typically be found in the Administration Building of your village; in the absence of such information, asking the Kage directly is always the safest bet.

If you are a Wandering ninja, you have free reign to travel, without needing to ask for any Kage's permissions.

Now, assuming you were granted permission, and that you were travelling from Sunagakure to Iwagakure, you will need to start a thread in the Kaze no Kuni Border (as Sunagakure is located in the Land of Wind). The title of the thread is up to you, though you must add a label to denote you're travelling, stating the place of origin and the destination. In this case, it will be [Sunagakure → Iwagakure]. This travel thread must be 600 words long to be valid.

Illegal travel occurs much the same way. However, after you post your travel thread from one country to the next, you do not immediately move to that country. There is a 12-hour window where an ANBU or a fellow ninja (likely from your own village) may attempt to stop you. If no attempt has been made, you can then close the thread, signifiying that you have arrived. To close the thread, you have to post that you've exited the thread; simply stating you've left or arrived, or leaving the thread on its own, is not sufficient.

NOTE: You do not need to be geographically accurate while posting a travel thread. For example, if you were to refer to the map of Saga that we have linked at the top of this page (also provided below for your convenience), you will notice that the Land of Wind and the Land of Lightning are separated by the Land of Fire. If you are travelling from Suna to Kumo, you do not have to go through Konoha. This means that you do not have to post for a travel from the Land of Wind to the Land of Fire, and then from the Land of Fire to the Land of Lightning. Rather, you can immediately post a thread stating that you are going to the Land of Lightning from the Land of Wind, i.e. [Sunagakure → Kumogakure].
Map of Saga:
One thing to note about travelling is that it automatically closes all of your current threads in the village. Let’s assume you’re trying to go from Suna to Kumo. If you have posted your travel thread in the Kaze no Kuni Border, all your threads in Suna and in the Land of Wind will automatically be closed, and you cannot post in them any further. As such, do finish up your business in your on-going threads before you have to leave, so that you do not leave your fellow RPers waiting.

On the off chance that you have to leave for something urgent though, Saga understands and will allow you to try and tie up loose ends with your fellow RPers. This does not mean that you are allowed to keep posting in your on-going threads after you have moved to another country, as your thread would have by then been closed. Instead, what Saga allows you to do is hold flashback threads with those you still need to wrap things up with. You are only entitled two flashback threads at any one time, which do not take up your five active thread slots.

Flashback threads are, as the name suggests, threads done in flashbacks. You do not need a special formatting for these kind of threads, nor do you need to write it all in italics to denote it as a flashback. You can simply add a label [Flashback] to the title of your thread. If you do not, then you must specify somewhere else in your title that the thread is a flashback thread. This is as flashback threads are special, compared to regular threads. For one thing, due to their nature of being in the past, they may not be training topics, i.e. you cannot use any words in a flashback thread for training purposes. Flashback threads also cannot be intervened, which will be explained later, and they cannot contain character deaths, i.e. they are always considered No Kill.

That should be all you should need to know on travelling.

9. Thread Intervention #0009

A mechanic you should be wary of on Saga is thread intervention, which can also be read at the Thread Intervention and Travel Guidelines.

Thread intervention is a mechanic on Saga that allows you to join any thread, so long as you are lucky enough. This only applies to threads that you will otherwise be unable to join normally. Threads labeled [Open] do not need to be invaded, as they may be joined normally. On the opposite hand, threads which bar you from normal entry, such as those labelled [Private] or [Invite Only], can be invaded.

There are conditions for this, though. Only threads that have at least a Special Jonin/B-rank ninja in them may be the target of thread intervention. Genin/D-rank ninja and Chuunin/C-rank ninja should be safe, unless you have a thread with said Special Jonin/B-rank ninja.

To intervene a thread, go to the 'Post Reply' page. It should be the page where you are prompted for a title and the content of your post. Scroll down past the buttons 'Preview' and 'Send' to the bar titled 'Dices Roll'. Choose the appropriate dice, which in this case is Thread Intervention. You will be informed if the dice roll was a success or failure. If it was a success, you have intervened in the thread, and you can post as any other participant of the thread.

If you fail, however, you are not allowed to try a second dice roll until at least three days, or seventy-two hours, have passed in real time.

NOTE: Even if there is a Special Jonin in a thread, there is one other condition whereby you need to look out for before you can intervene in a thread. Three rounds of posting must have occurred before you are allowed to intervene. If before these three rounds are over, a battle breaks out, you must wait for a further three rounds of battle to have elapsed before you are allowed to intervene. As such, you can only attempt a dice roll when the later of either of these three rounds has passed. If you are unsure of when a battle has begun, contact a member of staff, preferably an administrator.

Now, when a thread intervention succeeds, new rules apply to the thread. For one thing, the thread immediately becomes kill-enabled, even if it was labelled ‘No Kill’. Also, no one is allowed to leave the thread through whatever means for at least seven more rounds in the thread. This is more severe for the owner of the thread, who cannot leave for ten more rounds. If, before these seven/ten rounds have passed, another thread intervention succeeds, a further seven/ten rounds must pass before anyone can leave.

The same procedure applies for a travel intervention, which is where you attempt to intercept someone trying to illegally move from one country to another. The two main differences are that you may intervene in a travel thread done by anyone, even Genin/D-rank ninja, and that a different Dice Roll is chosen; rather than choosing the ‘Thread Intervention’ dice roll, the ‘Travel Intervention’ dice roll should be chosen.

There is a stark difference as to this differentiation: Thread Intervention dice rolls have a 30% chance of success, while Travel Intervention dice rolls have a 50% chance of success.

While normal ninja will attempt thread and travel interventions through the dice rolls, ANBU members can ignore this dice roll completely, invading any thread they wish, even those of Chunin and below, so long as they are within their own country. Even then, their invasion may be rendered void if they are unable to argue for having an appropriate reason for invading, or if they are unable to provide concrete evidence that they know of the invaded target's location IC. In such cases, contact a member of staff, preferably an administrator, to have the issue cleared up.

10. Making Money #0010

Money on Saga is known as ryo, and it acts a very important currency. Without ryo, you will be unable to do a lot of things, like train your stats, buy items, or learn jutsu.

Now, there are multiple ways you can go about making money. The three most often will be covered:

  • Posting
Yes, you get ryo for posting IC. For every post you make IC, you will receive 20 ryo. While a small amount, it does accumulate throughout your tenure on Saga, which is among the reasons we stress that patience and diligence are the two main values that can help you thrive on Saga. Also, as you may know, posting in the 'Introductions and Absences' section as you welcome new RPers to the site or bid farewell to old ones will earn you a nice 10 ryo per post, so do be cordial to your fellow RPers and extend a warm hand of welcome, or a firm wave of goodbye!

Beware of stepping into the ryo farming territory, which is the situation whereby each of your posts in a solo thread contain very few words, thereby exploiting the 20 ryo per post that you get. While it is not illegal, it is extremely frowned upon, and staff members reserve the right to take action. As this Guide was not written by a staff member, the exact boundary whereby it irates staff is unknown, but an acceptable rule would be to keep your posts on borderline three hundred (300) words. It is also a good practice to keep your word count above a certain threshold so that you may A) improve your writing, and B) maintain your RPing performance for others.

  • Taking missions
The most direct way of making money in large sums is to take missions. There are three main steps to completing missions. First, you will need to pick a mission, though you may only do the mission belonging to the village you are currently geographically located in. For example, if you are a Konoha ninja currently residing in Suna, you may only do missions in Suna, not Konoha. The missions board can be accessed here. You should be taken to a thread page with the five villages’ respective mission boards.

Now, this is where it might get a little messy for you, as Saga staff has had little time to clean up on the tirade of missions that have accumulated over time. On the page, you will first see the five village's respective mission boards. However, beyond that, you will also see quite a few posts. Most of these don't concern you; they are plot missions, completed missions, unapproved missions, and so on and so forth. Ignore these for now. Instead, continue on to one of the village's mission boards, specifically that of the village you are in.

NOTE: If you are a ninja taking a mission in a foreign village, for example a Konoha ninja attempting to take a mission in Suna, there is one more step you need to perform. As Wandering ninja belong to no village, all villages they go to are counted as foreign villages. The extra step needed will be explored after the following section:

For the sake of this guide, we will use Sunagakure as an example.

Under the Suna Mission Board page, you will see a list of missions for you to choose from. For some Saga jargon, the threads containing these missions are called 'Mission Briefings'. Browse through the ones you’re entitled to take. You may only accept missions that are at most one rank higher than your own. Decide on a mission that you will take; for the purpose of this guide, we will be using the one listed below:
The Cat's Out Of The Box:
This is a fairly straightforward example of a mission taken out of Sunagakure’s Mission Board. As the location stated in the mission briefing is Sunagakure, the mission will have to take place in Sunagakure. As such, go to the village’s page and start a thread, adding a label in the thread to reference that you are taking this mission. For example, add the following tag to the title of your thread, [D-Rank], or alternatively name your thread the mission itself, for example, The Cat’s Out of the Box [D-Rank Mission]. The latter method is preferred by many due to its simplicity.

Throughout the course of completing the mission, you have to complete the objectives of the mission and satisfy the minimum word count needed, which is based on the rank of the mission as follows:

    • D-rank: 600 words
    • C-rank: 1000 words
    • B-rank: 1500 words
    • A-rank: 2500 words
    • S-rank: 3000 words
    • SS-rank: 10000 words

Once you are done, and your mission meets the word count requirement (once again, meticulously and mercilessly checked, and in this case, six hundred), you may return to the mission board. Return to the page where you requested the mission from and add a new post stating that you have completed it. Now, no member of staff will look at this just because you posted it. There's one more thing you have to do.

There is a Mission Modding Requests Section you must first post in. WARNING: this next part might incite a 'Why would you do this (to me)?' reaction. You need to post in that Mission Modding Requests thread, linking the post you added to the Mission Thread where you first found your mission. A member of staff will then be along to clear it up. You will then have to ask for your pay (an addition to the site’s record of your ryo) at the Administrative Requests Section found here.

Also, if you are a ninja taking a mission in a foreign village, you will first and foremost need to request to take a mission. What this means is that you will need to post with a notification that you are taking the mission and wait for an approval before you can move on to doing it.

For example, if you were to undertake the mission The Cat's Out of the Box, which was originally found here, you will need to first post in that thread that you would like to take the mission 'The Cat's Out of the Box', and wait for an approval, before actually proceeding to doing the mission.

Most of the time, however, such a request is purely procedural and a formality; very seldom will you have your request denied.

So, to sum it up, it goes like this:

(if you're in a foreign village)
    Location: Village Mission Board
Request to take the mission you wanted from the procured list

    Location: Designated mission venue
Do the mission, completing the word count as needed

    Location: Village Mission Board
Post a reply containing the URL for Post #2

    Location: Mission Modding Requests
Post a reply containing the URL for Post #3

--Done by the Mission Mod to acknowledge completion of the mission--

    Location: Administrative Requests
    Post a reply containing both the URL for Post #3 and Post #5;
    Request for your mission reward

  • Donations
One less well-known method is by asking for donations, either in chat or otherwise. Some of your fellow RPers do have a substantial amount of money they will be willing to invest in you, though in the spirit of RPing, we encourage you to avoid this method if you don't plan on remaining active, and to use it judiciously. Furthermore, as it is a donation, please refrain from demanding it from other RPers should they refuse.

And that settles it for the top three ways to make money on Saga!

A more in-depth Guide on becoming filthy rich has been written by Han. It is known as Han's Money-Making Guide: How to Get Rich on Saga! and has garnered much positive feedback from other RPers. If you have free-time and would wish to fatten your pockets, do give it a read.

11. Stats #0011

Stats, short for statistics, refer to particular data that reflect abilities of your character, be it strength (STR), speed (SPD), endurance (END), perception (PER), or reaction time (REA). Also to be noted is that Saga’s stat system is not integer-based, but rather level-based, i.e. your strength is not measured by a number, like 59, as much as it is measured by a level, like A-3.

This section only deals with general information about stats, and does not go into how they are increased. Those can be found in the next section, 12. Training #0012.

The following is a generic explanation of the five stats, which has been summarised from the Stats Rules page:

  • Strength (STR)
Strength governs how strong your character is physically, how much they can lift, how hard they hit, etc. Strength normally helps with basic hand-to-hand or Taijutsu strikes. They may also allow you to use weapons with a minimum strength requirement.

  • Speed (SPD)
Speed refers to how fast you are, how likely you are to dodge attacks. It can indirectly help with strength; the faster you move, the harder you hit. Speed also determines if your opponents can react to your movements.

  • Endurance (END)
Endurance decreases the amount of damage you take from basic strikes should you get hit, allowing you to withstand long periods of physical damage. Do note that a high endurance does not make you invulnerable, only more durable.

  • Perception (PER)
Perception affects how your senses work, enhancing how well you can sense things around you. It allows you to more easily detect quick opponents, see through Genjutsu, and detect hidden enemies. This stat also extends to your smell and hearing. Be warned that being highly perceptive may help you see through Genjutsu, but it may also make it easier to land Genjutsu on you, as you can detect Genjutsu triggers more easily. Perception also helps you fight multiple opponents keeping track of them on the battlefield. Perception may also allow you to use certain Kyujutsu weapons with a minimum perception requirement.

  • Reaction Time (REA)
Reaction Time is how quickly you can react and respond to what happens around you. It affects your character’s reflexes and their ability to move their body in response to enemy movements, helping you stay one step ahead in combat.

There are multitudinous levels for stats on Saga. They can be categorised into eight ranks (E to SS), which are further divided each into four tiers (0 to 4). Therefore, you have to move from E-0, to E-1, to E-2, to E-3, before you can attain a D-0 stat. This applies all the way until the SS-rank, following which you will only be allowed six points of further increase in total beyond the SS-0 rank. For example, you could decide on three points in the Strength stat while having the other three in Speed, thus increasing both to SS-3, or have two invested in Strength, Speed, and Endurance, bringing all three stats to SS-2. However, you can not go beyond these six initial increases.

Do note that the tier system applies only to stats, not to jutsu, specialisations or elements. Jutsu, specialisations and elements only have ranks and are not divided further into tiers.

Also, your stats can only be trained to a certain limit at every rank, or more specifically, to the limits that your rank permits. For example, if you are a Genin (D-rank), you may only train your stats up to D-3, and no further. If you successfully get promoted to Chuunin (C-rank), your stat limit will then be raised to the C-3 tier. Also, if any of your stats have been trained to their limit, a promotion will grant you free stat boosts to the next tier. Hence, if you are a Genin with D-3 Strength, a promotion grants you a free increase in Strength from D-3 to C-0.

NOTE: While the Stats Rules page may be a hefty read, and to an extent it is, please do not be mislead in that you have to memorise all of that. Most of what is written there is an explanation of what each stat is capable of at each rank and tier, as well as how certain stats interact with each other. You do not need to be highly familiar with the Stat Rules page, as you can opt to use it as a reference whenever such stats come into play.

Also, this is a completely unofficial tip and will not be enforced in any way, but so long as you and your RP partner(s) can agree/have no qualms on your character's actions, as well as remaining within the boundaries of what you are able to do (e.g. no Genin should be able to move at 15 m/s without the help of a jutsu or level an entire village), then you likely won't have to refer to the Stats Rules page for every interaction you do in the thread. Of course, this is just something I've noticed occurring at the site for the less intense levels of RP, for simplicity's sake.

And there you have it: your crash course on Stats!

12. Training #0012

Training is, as the word suggests, a process whereby you learn or improve a skill through practice and effort. Training is one of the requirements before you can use a new jutsu you have applied for, as well as the main way for you to get your stats increased, and specialisations and elements strengthened.

On Saga, training is mainly done through the use of WC (word counts) and ryo. For example, if you want to increase your Speed stat from E-0 to E-3, you will need a total of 450 words and 0 ryo. This means that you must have 450 spare words to be invested into the training of your Speed, while paying 0 ryo in the process. This is also the process for specialisations and elements, where you use a particular word count (no ryo needed) to pay for an increase in rank for your specialisations and elements.

Similarly, if you have a Jutsu you have applied for which has been approved by a mod and is pending training, you will need to spend a certain quantity of words to train it as well as a certain amount of ryo to purchase it. The amount of ryo and words needed have been quoted below.

These WCs (word counts) can come from any thread that you have done, but cannot be duplicated. The mainstream and recommended thing to do is to note down your WC so far at the end of every post. This way, the WC in your last post in the thread is reflective of the total number of words you have written. In the same thread, you may then allocate these words to the respective things you wish to train. Simply note down what you are training, and how many words you have dedicated for it.

NOTE: It is not required that you write about your training. You may use any leftover word count, so long as it is not duplicated, for the purposes of your training. For example, word counts from a thread about having tea or coffee can go towards increasing your Strength stat.

NOTE: Before you are allowed to spend any word counts you have accumulated within a thread, you must first exit a thread by posting the appropriate label, e.g. [Exit], at the end of your thread.

An example of a scenario is as follows. Assuming I have 6,856 words at the end of my thread, I will put the total WC as 6,856. Assuming I am trying to learn a D-rank jutsu and increase my Speed from E-0 to D-0, I will also note it down.
Example scenario:
You may also split word counts, though there are simple rules to follow. First of all, what you are training must be of at least 3000 words. Second, every thread you use must contribute a minimum of 1000 words to the training. As such, even if you 999 words left over from a thread, you may not use it for training.

The requirements for training in both word counts and ryo have been listed below. All approval threads and administrative threads mentioned below have been linked in a previous essentials section, 5. Mod Systems #0005.
Stat Training:
Elements and Specialisations Training:
Jutsu Training:
Unlearning Elements or Specialisations:
And that wraps up the gist of your training.

13. Fighting and Death #0013

Combat threads are fairly famous on Saga, which is why you should be prepared in case you find yourself in a combat situation, or are challenged to one. Even if your thread is labelled ‘No Kill’, it does not stop the enemy from attacking you.

Unfortunately, the art of combat is as slick as the art of making a thread, in that the tools and weapons at your disposal (apart from your items) is your mastery with words and language. If you are able to craft a battle scenario to outwit your opponents, then the battle is tilted in your favour.

Of course, Jutsu, Items, and Stats play a huge role in determining whether you can outmaneuver and outdamage your opponent. Having higher stats generally will translate to a better chance at victory. The same goes for having a larger repertoire of Jutsu and better Items at your fingertips (and in your ninja pouch).

Do take note that you have a limited amount of chakra that cannot be replenished unless you have the Senjutsu specialisation. The amount of chakra you have at each rank, the chakra cost of jutsu at each rank, and the mechanics of chakra exhaustion, may be found at the Chakra Rules page and have been provided below:

  • Chakra reserves:
    Genin: 150
    Chuunin: 200
    Special Jounin: 250
    Jounin: 300
    Sannin: 350
    Kage: 400

  • Jutsu chakra costs:
    E: 5
    D: 10
    C: 15
    B: 20
    A: 25
    S: 30
    SS: 40+

After the depletion or recovery of your chakra for whatever reason, e.g. the use of a jutsu, please be mindful to state the amount of remaining chakra your character has so as to avoid confusion. Also, while already noted in the essentials section under 4. Character Kit #0004, you may normally only use jutsu that are at most one rank higher than your character's rank.

  • Chakra exhaustion:
Chakra exhaustion occurs when you only have 10 chakra remaining. You shouldn't (but can be) conscious at this point, but anything below that number will render you automatically unconscious.

Also, losing limbs is painful, not just physically, but also to your chakra pool (okay, arguably more so for the former). Losing a hand/foot reduces your chakra pool by 10 chakra. Losing a limb up to the elbow/knee makes you lose 20 chakra, and losing an entire arm/leg makes you lose 30 chakra. These deductions take place from your remaining chakra pool, and your total chakra pool. Also, if the detached body part is not reattached correctly (using Medical Ninjutsu), then it cannot be regained.

A more detailed read-up on the intricacies of combat can be found at Sujin's Tips and Tricks: RP Combat 101. It was collated by Sujin and his friends, and he has kindly allowed me to share it with you in hopes that you can benefit from this as much as he has!

Now, with all the talk on losing limbs, one might be wondering: what about death?

Death, unfortunately, does exist on this site, and as much as no one wants to admit it, it lurks around every corner, in every fight. The only place you are safe from death is in a thread explicitly marked ‘No Kill’, and even that can be overturned with an intervention, which can be read up on at 9. Thread Intervention #0009. Information on your character's potential death may be found at the Death Guidelines.

Death is, in most cases, not instant. An attack causing instant death is usually against the rules (with very bad consequences) unless it is a decapitation, or you are cut in half (through the brain), which is highly unlikely if you are RPing correctly. Burning or electrocuting someone to death will likely take at least three posts, regardless of the jutsu used. Drowning or suffocation will take at least five posts to kill. Bleeding takes at least seven posts of active, intense bleeding before death occurs. This gives everyone a fair chance of saving themselves before it’s too late.

NOTE: I have heard from some members that they do have approved jutsu capable of causing near instant deaths, at rates much quicker than those provided above. As the Death Guidelines are likely to be outdated more so than the jutsu are, prudence should thus be exercised in any thread where your death is possible. Even so, you can rest assured that non-consensual character death is strongly frowned upon on Saga.

If, however, you are not the one dying, but your opponent is, that’s good news for you! You are able to take all items that they brought into the thread (you may not take them if the RPer is able to argue that they were not brought into the thread). Unfortunately, you have to RP claiming the items. While you can take as long as you want if it’s only you and the victim (who’s now dead) in the thread, things are different if there are other people in the thread. In this case, your window of opportunity is reduced to one post to collect the items, which might limit what you are able to take away from the scene.

Also, if your opponent is not dead, but merely unconscious, and you are unable to carry out the deed for whatever reason (it’s ‘No Kill’, it’s someone close to your character, or your character has the Necrophobia SC, for example), then you may take one item of your choosing from them as a prize, rather than taking all of them.

NOTE: Either due to a lack of updates regarding the Death Guidelines or a loophole with jutsu, there do exist certain approved jutsu that are able to cause deaths at rates much quicker than what is outlined above. As such, prudence should be exercised in any thread where your death is possible.

NOTE: Non-consensual character death on Saga is a highly frowned upon act unless done for an extremely extremely (yes, twice) good reason or to an extremely extremely (yes, twice again) annoying person. As Saga, from my experience, emphasises a constructive RP experience as well as long-term investments into your character, forcefully taking the life of a character and hence all the effort invested into them, without the consent of the RPer will be heavily prejudiced against.

14. Puppetry #0014

In this section, we will explore a little more about the art of puppetry, which has been organised from the Specialisation Guidelines and the Puppet Rules.

In the Character Creation section, under the question about specialisations, you have been given a small heads-up about Puppetry, and here we will delve deeper into this intrinsic art. As you know, puppetry is the control of of a movable model (usually a person) typically moved by strings attached to one’s fingers. Ninja puppetry takes this further by applying this unpredictable art to combat.

Generally, there are two types of puppets: bunraku puppets and human puppets.
Bunraku puppets:
Human puppets:
Puppet Modifications:
All Bunraku puppets have tier-0 Strength and Speed for their rank, while Human Puppets keep the tier of Strength and Speed that they had in life.

TIP: As puppets are items, you should familiarise yourself with their use, especially their durability.

NOTE: Unless this is your exact intention, avoid applying for your modifications on your puppet, as this would imply that the modifications are permanently a part of your puppet, i.e. you cannot remove them, even when you get better modifications

NOTE: Reminder again to mention what modifications you have brought on your puppet when entering each thread. Penalties may include, but are not limited to, temporary prohibitions of any modification usage within the thread.

15. Summoning #0015

This section will go through the use of summoning jutsu, and then the art of Kuchiyose.

Kuchiyose is the art of calling forth a companion, be it an animal or another type of creature, via the use of a space-time void to aid you. They may be used for combat, augmenting your own fighting style with their own physical attacks or jutsu, or simply as companions, albeit chakra-intensive ones. Summoned animals or creatures will henceforth be collectively referred to as 'entities'.

There are two types of summoning jutsu available on Saga. The first is having a summoning jutsu applied for as a single-use jutsu, where the entity appears, performs a set function, and then returns to its realm. This type of summoning jutsu may encompass items or other non-contracted entities, but it may not be used to summon other players. These types of jutsu have the normal chakra cost to activate and maintain.

The second type is a contracted summoning jutsu. This is where a ninja signs a contract with a single species of individual entities, each applied for separately. This allows them to call upon these entities, which normally obey their command, with the Summoning Jutsu, with different entities equipped with different abilities adding versatility to their arsenal.

A Summoning Contract is an item that, when signed in blood, allows a shinobi to use the Summoning Jutsu to summon entities of the species bound by the contract. This Summoning Contract must be applied for as a scroll in the Self-Creation Item shop.

Only a ninja with the Kuchiyose specialisation may apply for and sign Summoning Contracts with the following template:
Code:
[b]Species:[/b] The type of entity you are summoning.
[b]Rank:[/b] The current rank of the contract. This is the limit to the rank of summons you can apply for/control. This is left blank when in the Library, but is filled out for each individual shinobi.
[b]Elements:[/b] Up to three.
Anyone beginning with or newly learning the Kuchiyose specialisation will gain one free Summoning Contract. Starting out with Kuchiyose as a primary specialisation entitles the ninja to one free C-rank Summoning Contract, while any other case will entitle the ninja to one free D-rank Summoning Contract.

To upgrade a Summoning Contract to its next rank, a flat amount of 1500 ryo must be paid.

You may buy a second Summoning Contract for 9000 ryo, but you may only upgrade it to a maximum of B-rank.

All existing approved Summoning Contracts are stored in the Contract Library within the Items section. All Summoning Contracts within the Contract Library may be taken by any shinobi, even if they are not the contract's creators, unless it is clan-locked, i.e. you have to be from the clan to receive it.

A Summoning Contract may have up to three elements, while individual entities may have one element at C-rank, two at A-rank, and three at S-rank. Entities bound by Summoning Contracts themselves do not have specialisations, and as such they may use jutsu that lack a specialisation, are relevant to their biological makeup, or may share one with their summoner, although these specialisations are limited to Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, Taijutsu, Medical Ninjutsu, and Bukijutsu.

A summoned entity has to be applied for in your Jutsu Registry/Registration with the following template:
Code:
[b]Name:[/b] The name of the summon.
[b]Rank:[/b] The rank of the summon.
[b]Contract Species:[/b] Link the Library version of the contract for your summon here; also give the rank your personal contract is.
[b]Elements:[/b] Any elements the summon has, from its contract.
[b]Description:[/b] What does your summon look like? Everything about it's appearance, including size, any special characteristics, etc.
[b]Techniques:[/b] Detail your summon's techniques here. Use the Jutsu template for these as if you were apping them yourself.
[b]Other:[/b] Any natural the summon has, or any weapons/armor you bought for it.
The word counts and ryo costs of applying for summoned entities of each rank differ from those of jutsu, and are as follows:

  • D-rank: 1250 words and 230 Ryo
  • C-rank: 2250 words and 340 Ryo
  • B-rank: 2750 words and 440 Ryo
  • A-rank: 4000 words and 710 Ryo
  • S-rank: 7000 words and 1110 Ryo
  • SS-rank: 11500 words anad 1660 Ryo

In addition to having different word count requirements and ryo costs, activating and maintaining the Summoning Technique on a contract-bound entity has higher activation and maintenance costs, as follows:

  • D-rank: 15 chakra activation, 5 chakra per post
  • C-rank: 25 chakra activation, 5 chakra per post
  • B-rank: 40 chakra activation, 5 chakra per post
  • A-rank: 55 chakra activation, 10 chakra per post
  • S-rank: 70 chakra activation, 15 chakra per post
  • SS-rank: 90 chakra activation, 20 chakra per post

Summoned entities are presumed to have tier-2 stats of their own rank.

Summoned entities may have natural weapons, such as claws, teeth, stingers, pincers, their own body weight, and so on. These act as weapons of two ranks lower than their rank (to a minimum of E-rank). At B-rank and above, summoned entities may also be ridden as mounts. Summoned entities may wield conventional weapons and even wear armor, so long as their summoner has the Bukijutsu specialisation; however, said items must first be applied and paid for in the Items section as if one were applying it for oneself.

Summoned entities also have their own jutsu and their own chakra pool, separate from the ninja who summoned them. A summoned entity's jutsu does not count towards the jutsu limit of the summoner. The number of jutsu they may have at each rank, and their respective chakra reserves are as follows:

  • D-rank: 3 E-rank and 1 D-rank jutsu, 50 chakra
  • C-rank: 2 E-rank and 3 D-rank jutsu, 70 chakra
  • B-rank: 1 E-rank, 3 D-rank, and 1 C-rank jutsu, 90 chakra
  • A-rank: 1 E-rank, 2 D-rank, 2 C-rank, and 1 B-rank jutsu, 110 chakra
  • S-rank: 2 D-rank, 2 C-rank, 2 B-rank, and 1 A-rank jutsu, 130 chakra
  • SS-rank: 1 E-rank, 2 D-rank, 2 C-rank, 2 B-rank, 1 A-rank, and 1 S-rank jutsu, 150 chakra

If a summoned entity is killed, the personal Summoning Technique related to the specific summoned entity, as applied for in your Jutsu Registry/Registration, must be removed from your Jutsu List. Any collaborative techniques, though, may be kept.

Among contract-bound entities also exist those that tower over the most monumental of structures, man-made or otherwise. These may only be applied for as B-rank entities and above. The upper limit to their heights are as follows:

  • B-rank: 6 m
  • A-rank: 10 m
  • S-rank: 20 m
  • SS-rank: 40 m

However, to compensate for their size, they are only able to use techniques of three ranks lower than their own rank. Even these jutsu, however, are far larger in scale due to the size of the caster. The range and projectile sizes of the jutsu used by such entities are multiplied by a certain integer, based on the rank of the summoned entity:

  • B-rank: 2x for range, 4x for projectile size
  • A-rank: 3x for range, 6x for projectile size.
  • S-rank: 4x for range, 8x for projectile size.
  • SS-rank: 6x for range, 8x for projectile size.

16. Pets and Seijutsu #0016

In this section, we shall deal with the concepts and specialisation that deal with animal companions: pets and Seijutsu respectively.

Most of the information here has been acquired from the Pets and Seijutsu Rules.

The art of animal companions is rather straightforward. All ninja are able to acquire animal companions in the form of 'pets', either for the purposes of fighting or just companionship on your journeys. For the latter, you do not need to apply for a pet, i.e. it is optional; you can simple RP as if you've always had one. It is only when you wish for your pet to step into the realm of combat that you must apply for it as an official pet. The types of pets you can apply for are either a standard combat pet, a Seijutsu combat pet, or a Seijutsu support pet. As per the name, Seijutsu pets may only be obtained if you have the Seijutsu specialisation.

All pets are officially applied for at the Pet Store under Items, with the following template:
Code:
[b]Name:[/b] What is your pet's name?
[b]Species:[/b] What kind of animal is your pet?
[b]Rank:[/b] What rank is your pet? What type of pet are you applying for?
[b]Specializations:[/b] What specialisations are your pet able to use?
[b]Elements:[/b] What elements, if any, may your pet use?
[b]Appearance:[/b] How does your pet look like? How big is your pet? A picture is optional.
[b]Personality:[/b] How does your pet behave in general?
[b]Techniques:[/b] What techniques, if any, are your pet able to utilise?
All pets must begin at either E-rank or D-rank. An E-rank pet costs 1500 ryo, while a D-rank pet costs 2000 ryo, regardless of the type.

While they begin at such low ranks, pets may be trained to higher ranks with the following word counts, with no ryo required:

  • E Rank – D Rank: 750 words
  • D Rank – C Rank: 1,250 words
  • C Rank – B Rank: 2,000 words
  • B Rank – A Rank: 3,000 words
  • A Rank – S Rank: 4,500 words (only for Seijutsu pets)
  • S Rank – SS Rank: 6,000 words (only for Seijutsu pets)

Do note, however, that at no point in time may your pet be of higher rank than their owner.

Now, any pet that has been approved may be sent into combat, and their stats and jutsu will determine their performance in said combat. While different types of pets have different chakra reserves, all pets will begin with the same stats. Pets, upon purchase or approval, will have tier-0 stats equal to their own rank, i.e. a D-ranked pup will have D-0 stats, unless stated otherwise, for example in the case of species-specific trade-offs. All natural weapons, like claws, stingers, teeth, and so on, are treated as a weapon of one rank lower than the pet.
Standard Combat Pet:
Seijutsu Combat Pet:
Seijutsu Support Pet:
Now, while any ninja may obtain a standard combat pet, and where a Seijutsu specialist may obtain a Seijutsu combat pet or a Seijutsu support pet, ninjas with Seijutsu as either a primary or secondary specialisation are able to obtain multiple pets, up to three. At all times, you may only have one Seijutsu support pet.

Having multiple pets means dividing your care, love, and attention between all of them, reducing the amount at which they may grow, hence capping their ranks.

  • First pet: Can be obtained at Genin/D-rank. Caps at SS-rank if you have one pet, S-rank if you have two, and A-rank if you have three. All pets get -30 chakra.

  • Second pet: Can be obtained Special Jonin/B-rank. Caps at A-rank if it is your only other pet, and B-rank if you have three pets. All pets get -40 chakra.

  • Third pet: Can be obtained at S-rank. Caps at B-rank. All pets get -50 chakra.

If your first or second pets are already at a rank which exceeds their permitted rank should you get another pet, you may not proceed with the purchase of another pet, e.g. if your second pet is already at A-rank, you may not buy a third pet, as having a third pet would mean capping your second pet at B-rank.

In the occurrence that your pet may meet an untimely demise, your pet may only be revived by any jutsu that is similarly capable of reviving a human being. In the meantime, all jutsu between you and your pet may no longer be used. However, they still remain in your jutsu list, and you are able to exercise such jutsu with other pets. While you may get another pet in place of the one you lose, your new pet shall begin at E- or D-rank once again, and must be gradually trained to increase its rank.
