Jerrick

Jerrick

D-rank
Spoiler:

Jerrick stood inside one of his fellow clansman’s shop as he looked at a variety of weapons that had been for sale. The air was slightly stale as the shop windows were aired out. Removing his blacksmith apron and hanging it up seemed to be more habitual nowadays. Jerrick would volunteer to take the pressure off of the older Shinkai. He would occasionally smith small weapons such as kunai, shuriken, and senbon. Senbon, he didn’t care too much. That was a tedious process that seemed to work correctly if you had the right tools. It was rare on occasion that the he would create a sword or axe. Weapons were his speciality, but his clansman wasn’t going to turn down repairing equipment for fellow towns folk for a fee. Jerrick was appreciative of what work he accomplished, but it wasn’t the only thing that he would need to accomplish today.

The younger of the two Shinkai waved to the older as he exited the shop. He felt that it was a shame that they didn’t get more business than they did. With everything going on in the world one would assume that arming yourself was a good option. Though, he knew that everyone wasn’t like his fellow clansmen. The clan that would use their swords as well as bodily techniques. He himself had learned a variation of Wushu that was called the God Fist Martial Art. It was a style that he was able to pick up fairly reasonably though it almost killed him trying to learn it. The martial art wasn’t taught to many and he wasn’t even sure if he was allowed to teach it to any one. He never asked the monks at the temple he trained at.

Jerrick sighed as he made his way to the local academy. It was mission that was passed down to him. The mission was one that he actually requested. He didn’t care too much for trying to teach children. This was a testament to see if he really had the patience to take on more than what he was willing to chew. He was only supposed to be a substitute for the sensei that took off for whatever reason. Hopefully, this would backfire in his face. Dealing with grown men was one thing, but having to babysit a bunch of kids was a different story. The mission would also help him experience academy life a bit. Jerrick had never stepped foot in an academy. His father proudly taught him all that he knew at a different pace. It was either you caught on to it or you didn’t. The Suzerain was not the one to let a child of his slack off. The pure thought about the past sort of gave him slight discomfort. That was definitely not something that he wanted to dwell on. He just needed to remind himself that he couldn’t be too strict on the students. They were there to learn.

Looking back on it, he really didn’t have much experience training others. He was mostly put in place to be a leader in his former life. This was definitely going to be a new experience and preferably a positive one. It may not be easy moving forward. That was something that he had to accept. The fact of the matter was that he was slightly getting a little heated just thinking about it. Above all else, he would need to set a good example for the students as well represent his fellow Iwagakure no Sato shinobi. Jerrick would need to think that this was another mission. It was important that he would not let himself down or the village by not accomplishing what he came to do. It was time that he showed what he was made up.

Upon making it to the academy, he looked back at the scroll that he was given with the mission details. He was supposed to meet in a combat hall or something of that nature. It didn’t take him long to find his way around with the signs up within the academy. That made it a bit easier for him to traverse the halls. The doors to the combat hall were in front of him. It was time to show himself what he was capable of. He opened the doors slowly, but confidently as he walked into to the marble floored room. The students seemed to be all over the place. It was cleared to him that these kids lacked discipline. There was a saying about one’s character showed when no one was looking. If this was true, he really needed to throw his back into this mission with full force.  The mission objective was clear what he was supposed to do, but there was nothing wrong with teaching this kids some respect and discipline.

“Students…” he said as they seemed to not notice his appearance. “Students!” he barked this time with a more serious face.

The academy students started to get quite as they looked toward him and continued what they were doing. Jerrick felt like something snapped inside him as he could feel his blood pressure start to overflow within him. His eyeballs started to get wide as a sound almost like a bear emerged from within him. The feeling of ripping flesh apart came from within him. It made him scream out filling the whole room with rage. The academy students quickly stopped what they were doing and shook slightly in fear not knowing what the large man would do. He slammed his fist into the marble floor to alleviate some of the rage within him.

“Alright maggots! Get on the floor in push up position! Do it, now!”

The students quickly obeyed as Jerrick walked them through calisthenics. It was what he was here for, but he wasn’t going to let these kids go astray. They were here to learn. He wasn’t sure of what to teach the kids before he got here, but since they were already getting a workout, he decided that he was going to walk them through the basics of taijutsu. Seeing the students in push up position started to remind him of his military days. It was quite the nostalgic feeling that played on his heartstrings. These students were definitely in for a hurting.

After he burned out his temporary students extra energy, he made them team up in teams of three. He then taught them the basics of Wushu. He then taught them some basic taijutsu techniques. Toward the end of the class he had them do two on one fighting drills to prepare them for being outnumbered as they entered the world of shinobi. Jerrick did what he thought was appropriate to train the students under his care. Tiring them out would also be a good motivator for them to build up some endurance. He didn’t believe that shinobi should be weak in body or mind. They needed to toughen up. Though, he did try to provide some positive feedback to them when he saw that they needed help.

At the end of the class, he had effectively taught the genin to handle themselves appropriately. Well, so he thought he did anyway. The students were beyond tired and didn’t look like they had much life to them. He gave them a short inspirational speech about doing their best to become great shinobi and making the village proud.  The way it came off seemed more like propaganda, but it worked for what he was going for. Jerrick was sort of proud that the thought that he made a difference in their lives. He may even inspired them to become taijutsu specialist one day. It was time to turn in the mission and hopefully, he positively affected the youngsters. He still had the rest of his day to himself. The bar seemed like a good place to go. At the very least, he would try and have a good time or drink by himself. There was nothing wrong with letting yourself out a little.
