Kurai

Kurai

D-rank
Kurai was feeling even more edgy than usual this day. Instead of allowing his hair to flow elegantly in its normal sporadic manner, he tied most of his back, leaving only few strands dangling, intersecting his eyes vertically. He tied a black scarf around his neck with a red triangular patter along the fabric. He only wore the scarf when going espionage missions, or ones that required investigation. Next to align itself with Kurai's person was a long sleeve, skin tight black shirt, and he put on over it a black sleeveless leather vest, that he zipped all the way up to the scarf that was tied loosely around his neck. Kurai then stepped into a pair of black leather pants with a faint reddish coloring to the front thigh, and then stepped into a pair of black high top boots. Lastly, he slipped his black leather gloves securely around his hands.

His attire was set, he was ready to achieve the goal that had been placed before him. It had been entrusted to him to catch a particularly worrisome prankster. This was not something that Kurai was looking forward to, as the prankster was guilty of expressing himself artistically. Kurai didn't want to admonish the boy, but give him a bit of guidance, to show him how to aim his emotional expression. Oh yes, how quickly the tide does turn. A sudden sensation grew inside him, sprouting outwards. Kurai had came across the art before, and was ready to track the kid down and share with him a few words. As minutes passed, Kurai was now approaching one of the people who had complained and had relevant information regarding the incident. "Sir, my name is Kurai, and I've been given the job of dealing with your prankster issue. Please, inform me of your dealings with the mischievous kid." The man was obviously agitated by the whole situation. He appeared to already be calming himself down, as the thought of it angered him. Kurai sustained his even expression. "It's a boy, I know that much. And every time I've waited for him, he always escapes using, freaking acrobats." Kurai tilted his head to the right, "Acrobats?" The man's eyes widened, his voice rose and he started violently gesticulating, "YES! JUMPING ON TOP OF BUILDINGS. Argg, he gets away... every ****ing time." Kurai made note of every single word, "Could you show me to his work?" The man sent a glare that would've have stunned a lesser man.

The two walked to the back of his establishment, where most of the graffiti had been done. The colorful mural of words and symbols contained insults, jeers, and slander. No wonder the guy was pissed. But Kurai didn't care about the content so much as he did the context. If this kid was an artist, the message was more that what appeared on the surface, it was the undertones of a piece that gave understanding. Kurai stepped closer, examining the work. "This kid isn't a true artist... either that or he hasn't fully realized his potential." The look on the face of the man said it all, he wanted Kurai to elaborate. "Well, he is using high quality equipment. The paint and spray paint is vibrant and the fine definition resembles well crafted instruments... but... his strokes are careless. Under no circumstance, would an artist use such exemplary tools so carelessly. He knew ahead of time that his time to work was limited given your traps, so if he was aware of the elite equipment he would have resorted to equipment of lesser quality. His work in no situation would allow for his best. By "not a true artist" I don't mean he isn't good, but he is most likely just beginning. Thank you sir, you've been more than helpful."

How did he get a hold of such fine products? He's a child so he either stole it or his parents provided him with it. There have been no reports of theft of art products... Middle class family. The ability to jump over buildings... he is an academy student. Finally, because he is a beginner, there is no way he could have learned those techniques so fast, he has a teacher than he is surpassing quickly. There is only one art teacher in Iwagakure capable of such instruction, and if this kid is as good as I think, he'll be glad to talk about him.

Kurai arrived at the art studio, he let himself inside. The center room was very plain, using the walls as canvases but there were also several easels. The hardwood floors gleamed as Kurai walked across it. To his right was the man he was looking for. "Matt, how are you?" The extraordinary artist twisted around, with a paint brush in one hand and a bread stick in the other. He beaming smile exploded onto his face. "Adventure boy, you sure know how to stay busy. I feel like it's been ages. Let us collaborate on a project, I could really use your unique vision." Kurai laughed genuinely at the request. It was actually something Kurai was considering, but it wasn't the time. "Later, perhaps. For now, I need your help with a project of my own. I am looking to contract a promising young artist from your studio. Do you have any candidates?" Matt's face relaxed a smidgen as the smile slowly receded. "Umm, yeah, I have a few prospects." Immediately Kurai discerned he was hiding something, the skills he saw in the boy would warrant much more excitement from an art purist like Matt. "Listen, friend, I am not necessarily looking for the most experienced or the best even. I'm looking for someone with relatively untapped potential. I want to harness some unbridled artistic genius and put it on display." Kurai stared right into Matt's eyes as he gave him all the keywords. He wouldn't be able to keep the kid's identity much longer. "Alright." He spewed in a whisper. "There is this one kid, he is absolutely phenomenal. I didn't want to expose him to too many people, because his prowess is indeed unbridled. Also, I think he is a bit fragile. So please, I would rather you didn't..." Kurai interrupted, "Where is he Matt?" There was a long pause where only silence spoke, "But... Kurai..." "You know I wouldn't be asking if it wasn't important. Now, where is the boy?"

Kurai received the address on a piece of paper. He was now heading off to the address to have a talk. He already knew the kid was fragile, that's why his intentions were never persecute or even scold. He had been, in a sense, wandering in similar territory. He knocked on the door. A lovely young lady dressed in a kimono answered the door. "Yes." "I would like to speak with your son." "For what?" Kurai tapped his shinobi head band. She just stared at him, the fact that he was a shinobi was not going to get him a meeting with her child. "Ok, your son is... well, he is guilty of vandalism and disturbing the peace. Using graffiti and trespassing as him main tools. I think I understand his position, and instead of turning him in, which would likely result in him being expelled from the Academy... I only wish to sit down with him and chat, see if I can relate to him, understand why he feels the need to lash out like this." After a brief moment of consideration, she conceded. "Kenny! Someone is here to see you." Kenny came around the corner, he was covered in paint and had a big smile on his face. Kurai couldn't help but laugh.
