Kennosuke sat in the infirmary bed in silence, a small sketch book laying in his lap. In the days since the attack, he had filled many pages of the book with drawings of things he remembered from that night as well as fragments of the nightmare he had been having every time he closed his eyes. He wasn't sure what it would help, but something had to give. The page it was opened to was colored completely black, except for evil looking eyes and wicked fangs.

He shifts in bed and grunts. He was covered in bandages and his left eye was still swollen to point he could barely see out of it. He knew no pain but that presented other complications. Pain is the bodies way of telling you when to stop and since he felt none, the chances of him pushing himself too hard and doing irreparable damage to himself was pretty high. So he knew to take it easy and let the healing comr with time.

There was something that kept nagging him though. Why would this traitor use him of all people to deliver a threat to Takao? Was he such a coward that he couldn't deliver it himself? Or did the traitor enjoy killing Rin and torturing Himself? Too many questions and not near enough awnsers. Either way a threat had been issued and even if nothing became of it Kennosuke felt he had to warn Takao. He called someone and asked they send for him.

Maybe talking things over with Takao would make him feel better about what happened or atleast help him to see things from a different perspective as right now he felt like the death of his friend was his fault and with the knowledge of a Kimura traitor, he just doesn't know what to think anymore. He couldn't comprehend how anyone could betray their village much less their clan. It just burned him up inside keeping that knowledge to himself. Takao would know what to make of this information and what to do about it. So for now all he had to do was wait.

It had become common for Takao’s day to be filled to the minute with a myriad of responsibility. Since returning to the village, he had reprised his position within the Academy, educating the eager youth to guide them toward the lifestyle of a shinobi. His own responsibilities as a Jōnin were far from neglected, and his mission record had been steadily increasing with back-to-back success after success. Even moreso than that, any spare time that he did have, he spent at home, enjoying the relationship that had stuck with him from Kirigakure. He was originally worried that juggling so many things would prove to be a stressful task, yet he was balancing them well enough thus far, falling into a predictable and manageable routine.

It was only natural that such a routine be upset by an anomaly. The hospital staff had been alerted, so he had been told, that one of the patients recently admitted needed to speak with him. When such information found its way to him, he was curious enough to put his routine on hold and head to the hospital.

In this particular establishment, he was a regular. Not only as a visitor but as a patient as well, at least in his youth, so passing through the halls that he had grown to hate was almost like strolling through a second home. Given direction by the staff whose word had brought him there, Takao found himself at the door of Kennosuke.

“You don’t look so good,” He commented as he closed the door behind him, affording the pair some privacy to speak on the matters in which he had been summoned for. Picking a chair up en route to his bedside, Takao set it nearby, facing his kinsman. On the surface his expression was cool as could be-- not even the slightest indication of the simmering anger that boiled his blood. The village was his family and he would do anything to protect them, but when it came to his flesh and blood, a transgression against them meant the creation of a lifelong enemy. Beneath the collected mask he wore, he was fuming.

“What’s going on?” He asked as he sat down.

Kennosuke couldn't help but chuckle at Takao's comment as he entered the room. To be fair, Takao was being kind because in actuality he looked like utter hell. Kennosuke closed his notebook and set it on the small table beside his bed. Shifting in the bed slightly he sits up as straight as he could and places his hands in his lap.

"I wish i could say the other guy looked worse. But that would be a lie." His voice was soft and even with the attempt of humor he sounded defeated. After Takao sat down and asked what was going on Kennosuke was silent for some time. Honestly be didn't know who he could trust and for all he knew Takao was the man in the mask and the warning was but a ruse for him to be able to come and finish the job. He avoids eye contact with Takao during this silence, keeping his eyes downcast and not so much as looking at the other man.

Surely,  I can trust Takao. Why would he threaten himself to set me up when he could of easily finished me off that night. He thought to himself. He takes a deep breath and finally looks up at Takao. He didn't know how Takao would believe him or how he would take the news. Best just to get it over with and see what happens.

"There's a traitor among us. A Kimura that killed one of the clan's sons in cold blood and this this to me." Pausing, he finally meets Takao's gaze. "A traitor who told me to tell you that you would be seeing him soon. I don't know who it was, they wore a mask. But he they were highly skilled, killed their own without remorse and seemed to take pleasure on trying to inflict pain on me." It all rushes out and Kennosuke flinches slightly, almost as if he let too much out or that he was the one in the wrong and expected to get reprimanded.

Amused but only to a degree, Takao exhaled a huff of breath through his nostrils, demonstrating the modicum of entertainment he received from Kennosuke’s quip. Bittersweet, he had decided, was a good way to define the interaction. Something had happened and it was of enough importance that his routine, however mundane it might have been, was interrupted. He awaited the reasoning behind it, and when such explanation was received, the thin, straight line of an expression he wore gradually faltered, his brows furrowing as a frown pulled his features down.

This scenario was one he was very familiar with. When the last Kimura defected, it had been his own father, and the conflict that arose had left Takao shattered in ways that transcended his mentality. The occasional throb of pain that coursed through his leg were remnants of his failure to do what needed to be done, and lingered now even after such a mistake had been corrected.

Takao reclined in the chair, taking a moment to process the information and form his own assumptions where details fell scarce. The Kimura were a large people, perhaps not quite so much as the noble clans of the Hidden Leaf yet still numerous in their own right, so narrowing down the possibilities to a single name proved to be too difficult a task in the moment.

“I’m familiar with the sort,” He said. His eyes narrowed. More-so than wondering who held the capabilities to commit such actions, he found himself curious about what this mysterious figure wanted with him.

“Although rare, the Kimura has seen its fair share of defectors and traitors in the past. I am unaware of any recent perpetrators, however. How much do you remember about them? Height, weight estimation, their build, speech patterns, body language… Did anything like that stand out to you?”

Perhaps it was unfair of him to unload such a line of questioning onto Kennosuke so soon after his injuries had been sustained, but his interest in apprehending the individual was of higher priority, lest there be more casualties.

Still slightly embarrassed by his little outburst, he quietly listened to Takao speak. While he had heard of others Kimura defectors as well, it was something that he was wholeheartedly unpreapred to deal with. His entire life he had believed the Kimura to be a cut above the rest. But this just shattered that illusion. It was an eye opener for sure. Not only was the Kimura no better than any other clan that resides in the Hidden Leaf, but also the fact he was still very naive about the actual workings of life. He closes his eyes, trying to think back and remember details about that night. There wasn’t much that he could remember. Just the glowing eye’s of the attackers Ibugan and shadows. His voice was distorted by the mask he wore. The only thing that really stood out about the man was one thing. Opening his eyes, he looked at Takao once more.

“He knew me, Knew my Father. He was about your height, but he was cloaked and masked, so thats the best I got. But, the way way he spoke to me. It was like he knew me. I don’t know, it’s hard to explain, but he almost certainly knew or disliked me.” Kennosuke threw the blanket aside and twisted in the bed, throwing his feet over the side, before pushing himself into the floor. His legs were still week, so he wobbled slightly but after a moment he was fairly sure of his footing. The sudden knowledge stirred anger in him all over again. Not only was it a Kimura, it was probably someone he was at least close with. First name bases and seeming to have first hand knowledge of his father, it was very likely this person was the one who killed him. Why he let Kennosuke live was mystery.

“Takao, I don’t know who this was. But I promise I will find them. I will find them and bring them to the justice they so deserve.” A fire burned in his eyes, a testament to his Undying Devotion toward Konoha. His words were not the same as the first time he spoke either. They carried a fierceness that mirrored the fire in his eyes. Whatever would happen after this, Kennosuke would devote himself to bringing these traitors to justice.

Slowly urging himself onto his feet, Takao moved around the bed to where Kennosuke stood. The description wasn't entirely helpful but it gave them a starting point. Takao was above average height himself, and although that did little to narrow it down, it was better than nothing. The fact that it was a Kimura as well helped narrow the pool of potential targets as well. Not much to go off indeed, but it was something.

"The only promise you need to make is that you're going to stay here and recover." Takao said, resting his hand on the young Kimura's shoulder.

"Your injuries make it very clear that if whoever did this willed it, you'd be dead. This is officially above your pay grade." Continuing in his explanation, Takao gently but firmly insisted with the hand on Kennosuke's shoulder that he return to the bed and sit.

"I'll alert the Black Ops and hunt them down when they show up. Until then, your only responsibility is to heal up and get stronger. You are not to pursue him. Understood?" Like his hand, Takao's voice was gentle, but firm. He could see in Kennosuke's eyes that the words he spoke would not register well, and would be met with resistance. Takao had been in Kennosuke's position before, perhaps even at the same age as he, and suffered from that mistake. If he could keep Kennosuke from repeating his failure, or worse, then he would do everything in his power to do so. A phantom ache panged in his leg, reminding him of the failure he obscurely referenced. When years of his life and his entire career as a shinobi had nearly been ended because of his eagerness for justice.

"I've been in the exact same spot you're in now. This isn't worth getting yourself killed over. Trust me."
