The ANBU Challenger [Invite Only/Kashizudoto + Kisei/NK] Latest?cb=20100216003313

Team Kenshin

Kashizudoto, under his alias as the ANBU Captain Kenshin, was conducting a routine patrol operation with his squad in the thick of night. There had been some unusual activity or other spotted in certain areas of the nearby forest, and Kashizudoto and his squad were to check out the surrounding area and report back to the village. There was more than likely nothing there, but in this time of tension between the Great Nations, it was essential to leave no stone unturned. Kashizudoto's squad was composed of three B-rank ANBU agents who were mostly unremarkable, at least for ANBU agents, in terms of their skills and chakra composition. Kashizudoto, however, was a sage, and it would be clear to anyone with chakra detection capacity that, as a result of his reserve of nature chakra, he had astounding chakra levels that few shinobi could match (and most. if not all, of these shinobi were sages themselves).

The squad departed from the village gates at around midnight and took to the trees from there. Kashizudoto was not going at full speed, if only so that the rest of his squad could keep up with him or perhaps because he was bored on this routine patrol and did not want to push himself for the sake of it. Given that this was a routine patrol, the ANBU agents did not fully have their guard up and did not have any sensory active, so a competent shinobi would probably have been able to follow them from afar in the darkness without being noticed, as long as they could keep up with the speed of the squad and could stay out of the reach of Kashizudoto's natural ability as a sage to sense the life around him, which only extended a few meters outwards.

"Hm... Most interesting." I thought to myself. While it was a beautifully dark night outside, my purpose for lingering outside of my lab was less for leisure than research. A sort of business. For the past few months I've been too busy mapping out potential locations for spacial distortions and perfecting equations to do some of my traditional research. The effects of specialized chakra in the human body. Originally I believed that chakra could work similar to evolution. Looking specifically at some of the beastial clans, and how they developed. However that was excluded too much of the population which actively used chakra, so that theory was thrown out the window. A fellow by the name of Yugen had given a good deal of insight in that field in the meantime, the phenomenon he displayed great fodder for research. As well as that demon of his. Though ultimately didn't help very much either. He was an outlier, a special case, and thus could not be recorded accurately. Tonight though, a much more generalized but nonetheless powerful subject was to be revealed.

Root archives and research was such a handy tool to have. Target of interest: a sarutobi ANBU captain by the name of Kenshin. Rather young for an ANBU captain, but I left that to speak volumes of capability and skill. Perhaps they would yield some insight into the conundrum that has been facing me.

Tonight they were scheduled to do a regular patrol around the Konohagakure. While I wasn't exactly interested in disrupting an integral part of the village's defense, after the patrol I wouldn't be able to catch them and I certainly didn't have permission in the ANBU headquarters to meet him before hand. So little option was left for me if I wanted to guarantee a meeting.

So, wearing the traditional stealthed cloak of Root as well as my traditional garb underneath, I gripped my umbrella in on hand, adjusted pinwheel wrapped around my back with the other, and followed behind the patrol team. Leaping down incremently down the Konoha wall. Staying close to the shadows of the trees, and slinked behind them. Sticking to roughly forty meters behind the squadron, just to be safe. While keeping up with them was not a problem, getting their attention may be a bit problematic... The ANBU are a comforting public figure, sort of... But are terrifying as a foe. Dropping in on them in the middle of their patrol is incredibly suspicious, especially since I'm coming out of the blue. Hm. Well. There's one thing I could try. Though the acting it'll require will bruise my pride a bit.

Speeding up a bit I placed an open palm against my cloak and sealed it back into my locker before calling out in a shout. "Hey! Wait up!" Watching out for any retaliation I began to pick up my pace to catch up. Depending on how this went, I wouldn't have to explain myself too much, if bad, well, a lot of lying and creative truth telling will be required.

As they were patrolling, someone approached them from the thick of night and made his presence very obvious. The squad couldn't be sure that he was a friendly presence, so they stopped, turned around, and pulled out their katanas as he caught up with them and were on guard just in case he pulled a fast one.

"Wait a minute, there," Kashizudoto asked as the ANBU Captain Kenshin, his mask altering his voice to that of an older man, "Who are you, and what do you need?" It was by no means normal for someone to disturb the ANBU while they were out and about doing their business, and although it was somewhat suspicious, he figured that a true enemy would have a better way of ambushing them. Regardless, it was important for him and the ANBU to stay vigilant at all times.

Even with such a dark sky, Kashizudoto could see fairly well in the moonlight given that he had very sharp eyes and could make out that the figure seemed to be that of a young kid. More than likely this was some young shinobi who was arrogant enough to think that he could stop and chit chat with the ANBU Black Ops, but, as he had nothing more interesting to do, perhaps Kashizudoto would entertain him as the ANBU Captain Kenshin.

Step one: Act. Upon seeing the group of Anbu in their traditional garb I placed a hand to my face and fawned, flushed at the sight of them. Shifting my voice to a higher range, mimicking that of an ironic anthropomorphic mouse of a beloved children's show, I began the show. "Oh wow! It's so cool to see you guys!" I cringed on the inside. This voice was so demeaning.. "Thanks for waiting up for me!" I flashed a smile. A positively beaming display of teeth and gums showcasing my lack of social grace, and definite lack of acting skills.. oh dear this was going downhill wasn't it? Opening my umbrella open, I swung it over to lean on my shoulder. Letting the black steel masquerading as fabric shield me from the moonbeams. "Sorry for dropping in on you, but as soon as I caught sight of ya I couldn't pass off the opportunity. Oh boy!" Blurg- "You see, I'm actually aspiring to join the Anbu myself. Oh boy! And I wanted to actually challenge the strongest one of you to see how my training has been progressing." He paused before adding one more "Oh boy!" For extra effect.

I planted my legs straight A's I leaned forward to more closely examine what I had to work with. Shading my eyes with my other hand for acting. "But ya know, I don't actually know whoever's actually the strongest, so I'll settle for..." I pointed randomly between the group for a few moments, before settling on.. "You!" I exclaimed, pointing at whom I believed to be the leader. Or the most leader looking one out of a group of completely cloaked Anbu. Coincidentally that also happened to be the Anbu that addressed him first.

"Oh boy! So how about it? Do you wanna help out a fellow Leaf Shinobi? Oh boy!" I winked. Totally convincingly...

Kashizudoto, as the ANBU Captain Kenshin, scratched his head - or, more accurately, his mask - with his free hand, holding his katana in the other. This kid seemed to be quite clumsy, a fan of the phrase "Oh boy!", and, on top of it, wanted to challenge an ANBU agent? Kashizudoto's gut reaction was that this kid wouldn't last a day in the ANBU, but, five years ago, he wouldn't have been surprised if village elders had said the same thing about him when he was romping around on missions in the Lands of Earth and Lightning burning up all the stuff around him and making his position known to enemies even when he really didn't have to. Perhaps time, maturity, and support was all this wannabe ANBU kid needed, and if he wanted a fight, Kashizudoto would give it to him.

However, this kid was still a suspected enemy as per standard ANBU protocol, and Kashizudoto had no intention of treating him otherwise. He motioned to his ANBU agents to retreat far back. This kid was his.

A giant burst of flames erupted from his body, bursting into the night sky in the shape of a monkey avatar. Kashizudoto allowed the pressure from his chakra to fill the air, creating an almost suffocating, hostile presence that caused even one of his ANBU agents to shake from afar. This was all simply for show, to see whether kid would crack under the pressure or push forward regardless. Kashizudoto was looking forward to a fight, but if the kid was to retreat, he would understand.

"Alright," he told the kid, his voice still disguised as his earlier display of chakra faded away into the night sky, "We'll have your fight right here, right now. But if you want to beat me, you'll have to come at me with the intent to kill." This was something one of his teachers had told him earlier, and it sounded cool, so Kashizudoto simply parroted it now that he had the chance. He continued, "I will treat you as any other suspect of the ANBU and will go after you with full force with the intent to capture." Of course, he had no intention of going at this kid full force, at least not until he had truly gauged his abilities.

"If you would like to turn back, now is your chance," he said, "Otherwise, it's your move." Kashizudoto had a variety of abilities, but he would hold back on all of them for now just to see what this kid was capable of.

When the Anbu he had chosen erupted into a mass of flames Kisei had the instinct to jump back a couple of meters but simply snapped his umbrella forward to shield from the flames and explosion of heat. His heart rate sky rocketed as the column of flame matured into a massive monkey. Despite himself and the fear that his research might get him killed this time, he kept a smiling and cheery expression, hiding the terror from his face. "Oh boy..." He muttered. 'What have I gotten myself into this time' the blacksmith thought to himself. Why were all the ninja he met such show offs, who had a seemingly endless supply of power. Man, this time is so weird.

The one he assumed to be Kenshin, proceeded to give him an out, as well as a warning. To come at him with the intention to kill. Kisei's smile spread a little bit wider, and a little bit of his old childhood self emerged. The wild techno child who loved to cut people up and get violent in his fights, but that time was long before and so the current iteration stomped the child back into the void of consciousness and took the reins.

'Oh, how courteous to allow me the first move. So you're looking to observe and react. Similar to me. I wonder if I'll meet your expectations.' Probably not. After all, I wasn't born like N'Jobu with a powerful kekkei genkai, nor the experience and strength of Takao. All I had were my inventions, just had to make the best of it I suppose.

"Oh BOY! I hope you'll enjoy this performance then, no matter how short it may be." Lightly tossing down the umbrella he channeled chakra into it as he placed both feet ontop of it. Riding the weapon like surf board. A classic application of his Mockery technique. Then, gripping the base of his pinwheel he whipped his arm around his back, activating the weapon before throwing the entire thing at the Anbu, if they miscalculated and grabbed the wrong end of the stick say good bye to their hand. But this was the Anbu, unless they were severally under-trained, they would be wiser to either move out the way or catch it properly. Either way didn't really matter all that much though.

Whipping out a scroll inside if his left hand he ripped it open with his teeth. Gripping the scroll tightly before stretching it open and unsealing the contents inside. Which, surprisingly appeared to be nothing. To the untrained eye.

"If you can see this, then it means that you're strong." Kisei smiled.

While invisible to sight and sound at the level of normal Shinobi, he had no illusions that the puppet was hidden from any of them. It was a massive puppet, shape entirely that of a massive beastial demonic skull. Inside of the hollow and open space, Kisei smirked. Then, thinning his chakra into strings, he connected his puppet to himself, allowing it to be brought to life under his command. While he would have loved to go all in, this was just the beginning, and he didn't have many tricks to waste needlessly.

The "Oh Boy!" boy took the opportunity to make his first move, taking his umbrella and riding it as if it were a broomstick. He proceeded to whip some sort of pinwheel at the ANBU Captain Kenshin; as far as Kashizudoto could tell, there were no enhancements or gimmicks involved with this throw, as if the boy were simply testing his reflexes with a basic attack. As the ANBU Captain Kenshin, he deflected it away with his katana and sighed; did the boy really think so little of him as to toy with him using a pinwheel and an umbrella?

It appeared to be more of a distraction than anything else, as the boy pulled out a scroll and unsealed what appeared to be some sort of skull-shaped chassis, and this was almost reassuring to Kashizudoto, who thought for a moment that the boy was just playing games with him. It was hard to see, especially in the thick of the night, and appeared to almost camouflage with the surroundings. If not for his trained eye, Kashizudoto would not have been able to see it, and he doubted even the ANBU agents standing in the trees far behind him would be able to see it, sans the one who had a Byakugan.

The boy seemed to be seating himself inside the chassis, and Kashizudoto had no doubt that if he had taken the effort to unseal it, it was more than just a shield; rather, he suspected that it was some sort of puppet. Kashizudoto had not had to deal with many puppeteers in the past, as puppetry was not common among the ninja of Konohagakure, although Kashizudoto had heard many legends about the puppeteers of the former Sand village. It was a shame what happened to Sunagakure, and, that too, allegedly at the hands of Mitsuo Sarutobi, the former head of his own clan. He and Mitsuo had met briefly in Kumogakure by random chance during the Kumo-Kiri war, and while Kashizudoto did not know much of the circumstances surrounding Sunagakure's demise, it was surprising nonetheless to find that Mitsuo had gone to such an extreme. Mitsuo was listed in the Bingo Book as an A-rank criminal responsible for defection from the Leaf and the destruction of Sunagakure; "A-rank my ass," was Kashizudoto's first thought when he saw it initially, for he knew that A-rank was not a term used to describe men who had bested the armies of an entire hidden village.

It would appear, though, that this boy was one of the few puppeteers that could be found outside of the former Sunagakure, and he was getting ready for the offensive. Kashizudoto, as the ANBU Captain Kenshin, figured that he should probably do more than just sit around and wait for the boy to attack him; after all, he and his ANBU needed to wrap up for the night and report back to the administration. If Squad Kenshin took too long, the administration would certainly question them, and saying that he kept them waiting because he wanted to duel some kid didn't sound like a great excuse.

He pointed his left arm at the boy's puppet; underneath the sleeve of his arm was a kunai launcher known as the Dansuburedo with the Sealing Kunai loaded within, attached to the mechanism by a chain that could be launched and retracted at will. It was a devastating and versatile weapon given how it could be launched and pulled back on a whim, swung around, and even used as a propulsion mechanism. He pulled the trigger on the Dansuburedo with his pinky finger, launching the Sealing Kunai at 285 m/s towards the puppet. He could have chosen to pull off a more powerful attack, but, for the time being, he did not think it necessary to be so forceful.

When he held back, he had already made a deadly mistake. Keshin raised his arm and without another motion some, thing, launched towards my puppet. Actually the only hint of it's existence was a faint whistle of the wind as the kunai and chain flew through the air, and the following BANG! of steel against steel when they made contact with each other. The metallic chassis of the puppet groaned under the stress and held sturdy, but I knew; one or two more strikes and this thing would shatter. My eyes went wide at that. This was the first time that I've ever seen the puppet actually take damage. While I did my best to hide my shock behind my smile, this is one of the few times I was actually scared. All fights and battles I fought in, even fighting with Takao, none of those sent chills down his spine like Keshin did in a single moment.

"Oh boy." I whispered lowly.

With a flick of my pointer finger I directed one of the horns to impale the links of the chain to the ground. Then I tilted the puppet at a near forty five degree angle to the right. Then, I charged forward with the puppet. But it wasn't such a straight forward tactic. As the puppet charged forward it also rotated like a rolling mat. All of the teeth expanding out to pin down Keshin's chains as we moved closer, preventing him from manipulating it to attack as the puppeteer charged forward. At the same time I charged my umbrella with a simple evasive jutsu, just in case. Until I reached roughly a ten meter distance to him, at that point I connected a single string from my free hand to the umbrella I was riding and jumped into the air. From the ground the puppet would charge towards Keshin before suddenly curling up and going airborne, placing five meters of distance between itself and the ground above Keshin. As it twirled upside down through the air, it sent out all the chains it had at it's disposal to cage Keshin in a two meter diameter cage. The top of it's head pointed down at the Anbu. At that point I used the lone string connected to my umbrella, pointed at Keshin, and clicked a single round. Before the umbrella flashed briefly before unleashing a powerful explosive blast towards Keshin, the chains in front of him would open up widely. Just large enough to let the orb fly through. This combination was an incredibly risky one, not unlike my usual plans, but hopefully the old element of surprise favoured me for this movement. The umbrellan charges were more powerful than most attacks and a single shot could instantly kill the stronger beasts of the wild. But would it even affect an ANBU I would. The anticipation was killing me.

The giant skull puppet had clearly taken a beating from the Dansuburedo, but the ANBU Captain Kenshin's opponent took advantage of the situation to launch a counterattack. His skull puppet started rolling forward towards him. Kashizudoto, as the ANBU Captain Kenshin, attempted to retract the kunai back into its launcher, but it was stuck and wouldn't budge, as the puppet appeared to be using its horns to hold the chain of the Dansuburedo down as it charged forth, preventing him from manipulating it. Were Kashizudoto, as the ANBU Captain Kenshin, to enter Sage Mode, the fight would be over in mere seconds, as he could infuse the kunai on the other end of the chain with nature chakra and command it to chase his opponent from afar. That would be no fun, he decided, so he simply watched as the puppet came charging forward.

The puppet jumped up in the air, and so did the boy with his umbrella. Clearly, there was some attack that was about to be unleashed in the next second, and he didn't want to be standing in the way of that. While he could have simply dodged the attack, blocked it, or sent an even more devastating attack at the boy or his puppet, Kashizudoto wanted to see what kind of attack he had prepared and if it was any good, so he instead decided to go with a different plan.

Kashizudoto, as the ANBU Captain Kenshin, formed the hand seals Dog -> Boar -> Ram in such a quick manner that the boy would not be able to determine the specific sequence of seals being performed and then proceeded to create a clone of himself in the exact location and position as he was standing. He proceeded to blend back in with the nature around him, turning invisible and silent along with his kunai and chain, leaving the clone as a substitute in his place as he escaped to the ground below, imperceptible to sight and sound.

If the boy was especially perceptive, he would notice that the kunai and chain had seemingly vanished into thin air after Kenshin weaved his seals; however, the clone of Kenshin was in the same exact position as Kenshin himself, meaning that he would not be able to tell that the real Kenshin had escaped and that a clone had taken his place. Kashizudoto determined that he, as the ANBU Captain Kenshin, would reveal himself once more to sight and sound after the boy's attack had finished in order to make the battle a little more fair, but, for now, he watched as the puppet proceeded to cage the clone atop the branch and as the boy fired an orb from his umbrella into the cage, creating a great explosion atop the branch that dissipated the clone. In the meantime, he retracted his kunai and chain back into the Dansuburedo launcher, as the puppet was no longer trapping it with its horns, and prepared a substitution with a log that he hid behind the same tree whose branch he was previously standing atop. Kashizudoto determined that it would be unfair if he, as the ANBU Captain Kenshin, were to use advanced techniques like Sage Mode on this kid, so he figured that sticking to academy techniques would be appropriate for now until he got a more accurate reading of his power level. It was fair to say that this boy he was facing was a resourceful tactician, given the maneuver he had just performed, but Kashizudoto, as the ANBU Captain Kenshin, had yet to see if he was powerful enough as a shinobi to even survive an ANBU mission.

When the attack had finished, Kashizudoto, as the ANBU Captain Kenshin, revealed himself to sight and sound once more, waving his katana in the air and yelling, "Over here!"

As the cage exploded from the inside with terrible blue light, I immediately looked glanced around the environment. Absentmindedly bringing GASTER to my side as I landed back onto the umbrella. The feel of Mockery still active beneath my feet giving me some assurance. While looking around I brought the stealthed puppet back around me, acting as my shield as I planned the next few movements. It was at this time that Keshin had revealed himself on another branch a few meters away from the branch i just attacked. As I stared him down, I used my chakra wielding technique to partially repair the damage to the puppet. The damage was not much, but whatever little bit helped.

So my first attack, no matter how awesome it was, didn't do anything. I didn't even see them escape, it even looked like they took a direct hit. So either his partner was the fastest being alive, or he had a method of advanced movement. Coupled with his Anbu training, and Kisei didn't have a thing that could touch him. "Perfectly fine", I grinned. It seems I chose my subject well, now, what else can they show me about the chakra of this world.

While I still was connected to my umbrella with a puppet string. I still had another weapon at my disposal. Extending another string to my fallen pinwheel maybe five meters away, I flicked my finger and launched it towards Keshin with a spin. Though instead of it just spinning as normal I had taken the liberty of charging it as well as my puppet with a potent electric current. As the spinning pinwheel flew through the air the spin forced the pinwheel and the handle to separate more and more. Leaving nothing but a thin wire to keep them orbiting each other. When it had made it half way into it's journey I started propelling myself up a tree with the speed of Mockery and as it would hit him I would push off the tree with the umbrella stuck to my feet, keeping the skull shaped puppet around me as I did so. In addition to the first raiton jutsu I pulsed more electrical chakra through the strings, enhancing the puppet once more. When I had gotten within eight meters of Keshin my puppet would begin rotating near uncontrollably horizontally and then shifting it's rotational axis slightly forward with each revolution. Effectively covering my from all angles of attack. Then while still in the air I suddenly let loose all twenty eight chains to spin, shock, paralyze  and shred through everything within a fifteen meter radius of the puppet until it finally crashed against the ground. Leaving me with a puppet with a half dozen tangled chains. Slightly dizzy from that attack I looked around for where Keshin might have gone.
