Fuyuko

Fuyuko

A-rank
Fuyuko rolled over while she was sleeping. As her subconscious wasn’t able to feel the firm skin of her boyfriend it awakened her in a blurry daze. The effort it required to keep her eyes open made her decide to keep them shut and just search over the bed with her hands. Giving them just enough strength to move them around before they would flop back onto the bed. After having searched for a little bit and never feeling anything but the soft fabric of the sheet it made her eyes shoot open. The little moonlight that was present in her room revealed to her that she was the only one that was present in the room. The grogginess that she had been feeling just seconds before had been overthrown by a sense of dread. They hadn’t been together for all that long at this point and not finding him in her bed while they were supposed to be sleeping had gotten her worried. It didn’t help that she felt like she didn’t really deserve him. The man was so gentle and kind, truly a white knight in shining armor. At least that’s how she perceived him. Had she done something wrong? she wondered to herself.

She tried her best to not immediately jump out of the bed and run through the house searching for him. Perhaps he was just getting a drink, or maybe he was just going to the toilet. Those things were certainly within the realm of possibilities. What if he found her worried over nothing? Surely he would find her a hassle if that was the case. So she decided to just to keep lying in bed and just await his return, surely it wouldn’t take too long.

Her eyes fixated at the door, her trained ears listening for any possible noise that could be made within the house. Seconds that felt like minutes past by, before they turned into actual minutes. Fuyuko’s thoughts were starting to consume her, the eerie feeling that she had been feeling in her gut from the beginning starting to take control. Something was wrong, she just didn’t know what. No longer being able to keep her feelings in check she jumped out of bed and almost ran through all the rooms within the house. Every door swung open with force and expecting to find him only to be met with disappointment. He wasn’t there, he wasn’t home. She did find some of his belongings in her house, so possibly he was just doing something else? Surely he wouldn’t just leave her behind without taking all of his stuff or was that all part of the plan? It was at this point that she caught on how desperate her own thoughts had become. It was just an endless spiral that wasn’t stopping. One thought onto the next just reinforcing what had been said before.

However it wasn’t time to mope, she would find him, even if it was the last thing she did. Without grabbing any of her gear or changing her clothes she rushed over to the front door and went out of her house. Barefoot Fuyuko started to run around  the streets of the mist village in search of the man she had fallen in love with. Her mind finding it’s path towards despair as the moon slowly shifted through the night. The single soul that she’d sometimes find in the streets got her hopes up until she saw their faces and just be met with another setback. Tears that had slowly been forming started to roll down her cheeks without sound. She wasn’t giving up, she picked up the pace as she started to run faster through the alleys of the village. Looking at every crook and cranny this place had to offer.

A flash of light was seen in the distant sky, having no real clue where to look, it was the next best thing to go and check out. Her legs carrying her as fast as they possibly could, almost tripping a lot of the times as she pushed her body to its limits. The light carried her out of the village and into the woods. The trees covered the distant skylight and so she just ran aimlessly in the woods in the direction she had been running. Eventually the light would appear in the distance again between the trees. Filled with new hope she pushed her body past its limits and so ended up tripping over one of the branches that stuck out of the ground. Resulting in her falling face first into the ground. Her night gown now stain with dirt along with the rest of her body. Her tripping and rushing past all the bushes and branches tearing it slowly apart as well. However there was no stopping her. Placing both of her hands onto the ground she got herself up again and continued her march towards the light.

The temperature increased as she closed the gap between herself and the light source, eventually revealing the light came from a large fire. Amongst the flames stood a man. Fuyuko couldn’t really believe what she was seeing, in middle of it all stood the man she cared so deeply for. Hot fire flying out his mouth. She didn’t know he was this type of man. It made her wonder if she had jumped onto the ship too fast instead of taking it easy and watching where it would go. However there was something about him that made her question his actions, his facial expression seemed like he wasn’t himself, he seemed to be in a lot of pain. Fuyuko weaved some signs and spew water at the flames as she was running at them, before jumping through the flames.

Takao!” she yelled as soon as she stopped breathing the water. She kept running at him. A normal person would’ve probably hesitated as they watched a man that was going berserk, probably call out to them at a distance, but not Fuyuko. There was no logic behind her actions, she just didn’t want to see him suffer so much pain. So without assessing the situation properly and seeing what kind of risk there could be she kept running at him. When she was close enough she would jump at him and just tackle him to the ground and hold him. If she were to succeed she would just hold onto him tight and speak to him “It’s okay! I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s all going to be okay!” she would almost yell at him with a teary voice. If he were to dodge her rather straightforward ‘attack’ she would tumble through and get back on her feet. Turn around and stare at him with watery eyes and just ask a simple question with a voice that was filled with nothing, “why?

Pain in sync with Takao’s heartbeat stirred him from an otherwise peaceful sleep. A low groan rumbled in his throat as tired eyes slowly opened, and were greeted with the sight of Fuyuko’s ceiling bathed in pale moonlight. At first, the confusion of having just woken up left in dazed and unsure of why his eyes had opened. But as another throb of pain pounded against his head, the realization dawned on him. He could hear their distant call, more like a whisper than somebody standing far away, but it rapidly built in volume.

Was just a matter of time.” He mentally mused in monotone. Having spent the past week in bliss without their interruption in her presence had almost made him forget that the voices in his head existed.

Takao pulled himself from the warmth of the bed and collected a nearby shirt that had been lazily tossed over the back of a chair. He quietly exited the bedroom and pulled the fabric over his head on the way down the hall.

YOU DO NOT DESERVE THIS.

His eyes twitched as the voices became clear enough to understand, and had immediately taken to their usual tactic of speaking ill of him and his worth. The Jōnin was wise to their predictable ways by now, having dealt with such antics for most of his life.

“Creative.” He mumbled to himself in quiet protest of his own psyche while passing the perch in which his falcon rested. With a simple outstretched arm, his avian companion leaped forward and was taken along with Takao as he moved toward the door.

“Guess we’ll see if a walk will clear my head.” He knew better than to assume whatever plagued his subconscious would be assuaged with a walk through a damp Kirigakure morning. If nothing else, it would give Asuka the opportunity to stretch his wings.

Furtively, Takao slipped from his girlfriend’s home without a sound to disturb her. After taking a few steps out into the street, his arm rose, and Asuka was granted the opportunity to take flight to the sky obscured by thick morning mist. Takao watched the bird disappear into the haze without worry, knowing well that his trained companion would be just fine on his morning flight.

As Takao took to the streets of Kirigakure, he lifted a cigarette from the carton in his pocket and held it in the corner of his mouth. A dab of chakra was added to the end of his thumb as he snapped, setting it alight with a tiny flame that was used to light the end of the paper and tobacco. The flame was shaken out and a long drag filled his lungs with familiar smoke, gracing his body with the comfort that it had been starved of for quite some time.

He started down the street, cigarette hanging from the corner of his mouth for the convenience of a light puff here and there as his dull, onyx-hued orbs glazed over the various buildings constructed of wood and cobble. Each step taken was accompanied by the voices that spoke loudly in his head, so real to him that they might as well have been people walking beside him.

It was a nuisance, and the headache didn’t make it much better, but for now it was manageable. Takao sauntered along the streets of Kirigakure, enjoying the dull silence. If there was one ounce of credit that he would pay to the village hidden in the mists, it was how well the mist insulated distance sounds. Of course, the silence only made his internal voices louder by comparison, but during the brief stints of true quiet it was something to savour.

Moments passed, and the matter of how vocal they were becoming had yet to lessen. Worrisome to a degree, but not quite something that he would fret over just yet. Takao’s mindless walk through the village had lead him to the northern gates, and out along the dirt paths that lead to further settlements on the Land of Water’s main island. The lights of the village were a beacon in the night, so finding his way back would be of little issue, compared to a week prior when a mere mission out into the wilderness had left him hopelessly lost. The forest was even more quiet than the village, and it provided him with a true sense of serenity...

A low grunt escaped his throat. He hadn’t expected them to be as long as they had become. The headache had yet to be eased at all despite his unhealthy habit and quiet stroll, which made their increase of volume that much more unpleasant.

Yeah, I never do.” Takao growled in response aloud as his walk resumed. They offered rebuttal, he contested, and the raven-haired shinobi engaged in his typical mental arguments with the voices in his head, occasionally musing sarcastically that it was an attractive trait.

Pulses of pain throbbed within his head as his migraine worsened, the loud whir of multiple voices robbing him of any hope at internal silence. Seldom had it ever reached unbearable levels of pain, yet this instance was quickly fulfilling such a description. Even the subtle rattle of his body landing on one foot after the other as he walked was becoming too much.

Takao fell to his knees, slumping forward as his hands rose to his head. The throbs of pain left him in agony, every attempt at suppressing the intrusive thoughts only made them louder and angrier. He pulled one hand from his head and cocked his arm back, thrusting the tightly clenched fist into the ground. It cracked and split under the force of his fist, yet the jarring motion did little to ease the ache that throbbed in every crevice of his head.

Just shut up! I don’t want to hear--nrrghh...

His jaw clenched tight enough that it felt like the muscles in his cheeks would tear from the pressure, and that the joints of his mandible felt like they would give at any moment. Even his teeth felt like they might shatter under the sheer force. It was through sheer force of will that he hadn’t succumbed to the pain that had practically left him crippled on the ground. None of his own thoughts could penetrate the wall of sound.

“...Fine... Fine! I’ll listen! Just fuсking stop! Just...” Each guttural word was hissed through clenched teeth until the energy and will to do so had faded. He slumped forward when the spent muscles in his body would no longer support his weight. With closed eyes, he felt the sensation of something cool and wet on his face, that almost felt like it was easing the pain in his head.

“...Stop…” He finally mumbled out. Defeated and broken by the superior consistency of the intrusive command hallucinations, Takao’s eyes strained to open, and adjusted to the sight of the mud that he had slumped into.

Fine. I’m listening.” He sibilated through firmly grit teeth. Takao cared precious little for what the voices would say, and this was no different. He would defy them and push them back, as he always did. He already knew the orders they would, the intrusive thoughts they would try to plant in his head.

HER LOVE IS A LIE. YOU ARE UNWORTHY OF IT. FREE YOURSELF FROM THESE WORTHLESS BINDS.

Breath left Takao’s lungs in heavy pants. His gaze was clouded by the eruption of flames around him and the mud-turned-dirt that he pushed his face into. The cool, wet sensation had long since burned away and evaporated, leaving scorched and cracked earth behind. He couldn’t remember the last time they had been so loud, and so degrading. Had they been a person, it would be their boot pushing his face into the mud, forcing him to bend and kneel to their will. His jaws slowly parted and a loud, guttural, pain-filled wail resounded amidst the roar of flames. One standing outside the tsunami of fire might have seen him within, but they wouldn’t have heard him over the howling and crackling of the forest being set alight around him.

WE CAN PROTECT EACH OTHER. YOU CANNOT DO IT BY YOURSELF.

Smoke billowed from his nostrils and through the gaps of tightly grit teeth. It wasn’t getting any better, and they weren’t getting any quieter. He had given them what they wanted and asked for. He had expended his ability to produce flames without causing harm to his throat and lungs, which were already coated with the foul flavour of ash and smoke. There was one taste of salvation that he managed to savour. Each primal yell he let out helped. It felt like each time he screamed, some of the voices left with his breath, and the pounding headache became just a smidgen more bearable than before. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts, it was like trying to drain an ocean one bucket at a time. His pain-filled wails were little more than a brief solution to a problem that felt more permanent with each second that passed.

NEITHER CAN SHE. SHE IS WORTHLESS. ONLY WE CAN PROTECT YOU.

Fuck you!” He managed to slip out, and his verbal defiance was met with an eruption of yelling between his ears. His hands rose to either side of his head and applied futile pressure while his jaw clenched down tight.

“Don’t you say anything about her.” Takao hissed out through his clenched teeth, enduring the brunt of their ire as a result of his bold disobedience.

YOU WILL LEARN. WE WILL SHOW YOU. SHE CANNOT MAKE US GO AWAY. WE WILL PROTECT.

“She…” His panting had grown worse as his fleeting grasp on consciousness began to falter. Some subconscious part of his brain was telling his body, which currently endured the extreme levels of stress, that it needed to shut down. But before it could do so, the faint sound of water dousing flame caught his attention. His head whipped to the side and hastily scanned the area, fully expecting a team of Kirigakure’s renowned Hunter Nin to descend upon him. What he did see was entirely unexpected. Although her visage was distorted, the lithe frame of Fuyuko running toward him was unmistakable. He watched the water spew from her mouth and douse the flames. The fire that she didn’t or couldn’t douse, she simply jumped through instead.

He turned and fell flat on his bottom when she called out to him, his brain incapable of comprehending what exactly was going on in its dazed state. He did realize, however, that she was bearing witness to his inherently destructive nature, and it flushed his face deep red with shame and embarrassment.

“Fuyu--” Takao managed to exhale just before her light frame tackled him and knocked the pair to the ground proper. Her presence, unsurprisingly, sent the myriad of voices into a frenzy in his head. Their words were no longer discernible and uniform, instead an amalgamation of protests and degradation. But with her arms wrapped around him and holding her tight, he endured it. His face winced and twitched as throbs of pain washed over him like waves, but he kept it bottled up with trained persistence.

“Fuyuko--... I--... Ngh…” He said, trying to form a sentence in a head that barely understood the concept of silence. “I didn’t mean…”

His eyes drifted down to her bare feet and his rapidly beating heart palpitated. The roar of voices slowly silenced themselves, or perhaps he had merely gained a sudden proficiency for ignoring them in favour of focusing on something far more important. His hands slid along her sides and wrapped tightly around her waist, grasping the fabric of her shirt tightly as he hugged her close.

“I’m sorry.” Takao said, lowering his face to nuzzle into the crook of her neck. He drew his legs closer and crossed them, pulling Fuyuko into his lap. “I didn’t mean for it to get so out of hand-- it usually doesn’t… get… this bad.” He said, realizing that his vague explanation of things would likely have left her more confused than she was originally. If not, he feared it might lead her to think he was crazy. Slowly, Takao pulled his face away from her neck and back far enough to look her in the eyes.

“I have to tell you something. About me. I should’ve told you this a while ago, but… I’ve never told anybody before. I just don’t know… exactly… how to say it.” Even now, he struggled with just articulating the concept of something being wrong. But looking into her eyes helped. Her teary voice and worried eyes reminded him that he loved her, and it was only fair that she knew. It sure didn’t make it any easier to say, but her visage helped strengthen his resolve to try.

“You’re gonna think I’m such a basket case.”

Fuyuko did her best in trying to douse the flames as she went through them, however the intensity and strength of them was far too much for her to handle. This didn’t stop her though jumping straight through, the heat of them lightly burning her skin despite her only being in touch with them for a split second. Leaving a stinging pain that got instantly suppressed by her greater emotional needs. Everything that she would face right now, would fall short of her need to protect what was dear to her. Nothing could possibly stop her from trying to reach Takao in his moment of need. And so eventually she would make it through the numerous walls of fire.

Now there was nothing between herself and Takao, nothing could stop her from reaching him. Her own vision relatively blurry due to the bundled up tears or she had assumed. Unbeknownst to her, the color of her iris had changed to a scarlet red which was the reason for her altered vision. The changes that her body were going through were overshadowed by her emotions. The intense desire to help Takao or the fact that she was slightly confused why he fell to the ground. Ultimately it didn’t really matter why he fell to the ground all she knew was that he just needed a pair of arms around him. He needed her arms wrapped tightly around him. Jumping straight for him once she was close enough and holding onto him tight once he was embraced by her arms. His head held tightly against her chest with his ear the closest to her pounding heart. Before letting her grip lose up a bit too look at his face again.

It was quite difficult watching him suffer so much in front of him and there was nothing she could do about it. She felt powerless. He was right there in front of him, clearly in pain, but there was nothing she could. No method known to her that could possibly alleviate whatever might be putting a strain onto his body. Further her presence here was certainly not something that he had planned for. Did he hate the fact that she found out about it? Was she supposed to just stay home and await whatever might happen? Her own mind started to slightly overload as well. On one hand it was concerned if she was doing the right thing or not and on the other hand it was so concerned about the health of her boyfriend. But she would have to just endure it all. She couldn’t show her own pain in his time of need, that would most likely only make the scenario worse.

Don’t worry about it! Don't worry about what happened. You’re safe here... with me.” she said as his face buried against her. Gently putting her hand onto his head and stroking it. Rocking her own body sideways a little bit as if she was cradling a baby. Another way of her trying to tell him it was all okay. She did get a little bit confused however when he spoke of it ‘usually’ not getting so severe. Did it mean that this was some sort of common occurrence? Was this going to happen in the future again? Would he end up in this much pain again at some point? These new thoughts, as if her brain wasn’t already working over hours, made her feel incredibly worried about the future. She disliked the thought that he was going to have to potentially suffer like this again.

He pulled away from her a little bit, just enough that the two could look deep into each other’s eyes. She looked slightly puzzled into his eyes as she listened to his explanation. It was very clear to her that it was not something that he was comfortable with sharing. But she would just sit there as long as it would take him to explain the situation.

What he said next just caught her completely off guard making her jaw drop a little bit and out of pure instinct she gave him a gentle slap against the back of his head as she almost started yelling at him. “So what if I think that of you? I don’t care if there is a problem with. I don’t care if you were to become incredibly ill, I’d stay by your side to help you, nurse you back to full health. I could probably just leave you and find someone else easily, but I don’t want that. I want you. All of you! With whatever ‘imperfection’ that may be. You are what I want. I’ll shoulder all of the good and the bad with you. And hopefully you'll do the same for me.” Her red eyes flaring up as her emotions left her mouth unchecked. There was no filter at the moment that was stopping the words from leaving her body.

She leaned forward and kissed his forehead gently for a couple of seconds, before pulling back again and continue staring deep into his black eyes. “I love you, that’s all you need to know.” She said softly as she put her forehead to rest against his.

Even when surrounded by the warmth of the waning flames, the feeling of her heat against him was enough to bring the mental solace he lusted for. The voices began to fade away, albeit slowly, and were replaced with the sound of her fluttering heartbeat against his ear. He hesitated to pull away and face her, afraid that even mere inches of distance between them would provide enough room for the debilitating chorus in his head to erupt into their gruesome song again. Her gentle rocking and stroking of his head brought him more comfort yet and left the voices roaring within his head as little more than a faint, faded whisper.

But no such song came, even as he pried himself from the crook of her neck. His black eyes came to rest their gaze deep into her teary red hues. For a brief moment, in his mentally fatigued daze, he hadn’t even noticed the change. It was surprising to see the faint mark of tomoe within her iris-- the distinct colour and shape that he was intimately familiar with-- but ultimately he pushed down the urge to comment. He hated the Uchiha and nearly everything about them. They were single-handedly responsible for so much destruction and death, not just to his people within Konohagakure but to the world at large, but he loved her. She was there for him, going as far as to burn herself to get to him despite his tantrum. In a mere instant, he had resolved that any ire held for her surprising and unexpected bloodline was dwarfed by his love for her.

Hearing her unfiltered words left him fulfilled of a feeling he didn’t know he had been completely deprived of. The muscles of his jaw fell lax and his mouth parted slightly, and any semblance of memory of the gentle slap faded away. It left him with an unfamiliar feeling in his stomach that he just couldn’t understand. and his arms instinctively tightened around her, only barely sating the desire to bring her as close as their bodies could manage. Decades worth of mental walls began to crumble like sand as he lamented over her words, and every fibre of his body felt weak and vulnerable in that instant. It sent the voices in his head into a frenzy, screaming like children who had been denied their sweets, yet Takao heard none of it. They were blocked out entirely, unseen and unheard, in favour of staring into her sanguine eyes. His lower lip began to quiver and, despite visibly fighting it every step of the way, his eyes started to water as well. To be deprived of this sort of love for so long left his body trembling, as he finally knew what it was that he was missing. It was the perfect storm to bring tears to his eyes; his mind was weak, his body fatigued, and her words powerful. His body lurched forward again and his face found its place back in the crook of her neck, unwilling to look her in the eyes during his display of weakness. Takao hugged her tighter, his hands balling fistfuls of her shirt into his grasp, and his mouth uttering inaudible words into the warm skin of her shoulder.

Every attempt at a response left his body heaving as it fought back the tears in his eyes, and left him simply hugging her for several minutes before he managed to calm himself down. Shamelessly rubbing his eyes on the fabric draped over her shoulders, his head finally lifted. He sniffed and managed to pry his hands away from her to rub his reddened eyes before looking back into her’s.

“I love--” He started, but his voice cracked from the stress of holding back the urge to cry. He cleared his throat and leaned forward, resting his forehead on her’s much like she had when she spoke originally.

“I love you too, Fuyuko.” Takao finally managed to say. His chin tilted forward and his hand rose to the side of her head as he claimed her lips in a kiss that lasted longer than any they had shared before. It seemed fitting, at least to him, that their first vocal declaration of love between them be officiated with a proper kiss. He parted after what felt like ages, but only for long enough to take a breath, and pressed their lips together again immediately after. Another eternity passed before he finally broke away, assuming that she hadn’t first, and his forehead came to rest on her’s once more.

“Okay… Uh…” He mumbled, trying to figure out how to choose his next words carefully. It was a delicate subject that he believed needed careful treading, lest the severity be overplayed and she be frightened by the nature of his mental plague.

“I hear… voices. In my head. I hear them all the time-- sorta. Sometimes they’re quiet, but most of the time they’re loud. I can block them out most of the time, but…” His gaze faltered from her eyes and shifted sidelong toward the crackling flames.

“Sometimes they get really, really loud, and it just… hurts. Doing this helps, because, uh…. They uhm... “ Takao’s eyes briefly looked back into Fuyuko’s but faltered once again, this time falling earthward. A feeling of embarrassment and shame washed over him as he prepared to vocalize the words that had plagued him since childhood.

“They tell me to burn everything. I can’t be hurt by my own fire, so… it’s like they’re trying to protect me. Sometimes they tell me to do other things, and they won’t get so loud, but only if I listen to them-- I don’t, I mean… I don’t listen to them. This-- like, the fire, it doesn’t usually happen. I can control it. I’m not crazy, or a danger to anybody. I swear.” His words sounded sincere, and almost as if he was pleading for Fuyuko to believe him. His cadence was far different from anything she would have heard from before. His stuttering, jumping between thoughts, it all carried an almost childlike vulnerability to it. To a lesser extent, he even believed himself, but the seed of self-doubt was ever sprouting within. Each time the voices grew worse, he felt his grasp on his psyche weaken. Prior to arriving in Kirigakure, it had felt like nothing would help him reaffirm his control.

“That first day we met, after we spent time together, I didn’t hear them at all. Or they were so quiet that I didn’t even notice them. Until tonight, every time I was with you, it was just… quiet. I got so used to not hearing them that they caught me off guard.” Finally, his gaze rose one final time and reclaimed their prior position staring back into her eyes. His hand rose back to her cheek and lightly caressed her skin, enjoying the feeling of her warmth on his hand.

“Before you got here, it was like a hundred people screaming right into my ears. But with you here, I don’t hear anything. I don’t what it is, I just… feel safe around you.” His expression began to soften and his features eased alongside the tenseness of his body. Slowly, the hand not on her cheek slipped around the small of her back, and returned to holding her against his body, fulfilling the desire to be close.

"Thank you."

Fuyuko, despite the situation, had a smile upon her face. She couldn’t help but feel relieved in their current situation. Watching him fight back his tears as she rambled away, him finding his way back into the crook of her neck, it was empowering to her. Not because it felt good she was able to make him cry, but because it took away any doubts and fears she held earlier in the evening. He didn’t want to get rid off her in any shape or form, he was just embarrassed by whatever was going on with him.  She placed her hand on the back of his head and started to gently stroke him as well as rocking her body back and forth again. Right now in this moment, it felt like he was a little boy that was deprived of deep motherly caring love and if that was what he needed, it would be what she would give. There was no mountain high enough or ocean deep enough to stop her. She would fight through everything to give him what he needed. It was in this moment that she decided to add another item on her list. There was only one other item on the list, that was changing the world for the better, give the people a second chance once they had done wrong. And now, now she added onto that list to fulfill and protect whatever dream Takao had, whatever it would take. If that meant to walk through hell and back or become the reaper herself, so be it. No option wasn’t on the table to protect Takao.

And so the two of them just sat there for what seemed like an eternity until Takao would peel away a little bit from her. Rubbing his eyes and leaving red stains in the corners. It was a cute, adorable sight that she was sure to savor for a long time. The moment that he fully opened up to her felt like an important milestone in her own personal development, but also their relationship. He tried to utter words of love, but his voice cracked, making Fuyuko giggle softly. Followed up by a warm gentle smile as the words came out interrupted at the next attempt.

Her hand followed his as if it was mirroring his movements. Sliding gently over his stubble beard which left a tingling sensation in her fingers. Their lips stuck together as if they were glued together. It was a kiss that had no end in sight, until he broke away from her, but only briefly. The two of them merely got a quick breath of fresh new air in before they would kiss again. This time she tightened her legs around him a bit as another eternal kiss ensued. Before they would eventually part again and their foreheads resting against each other once more.

A brief moment of silence fell on them as the crackling and sizzling of the flames continued on in the background. Fuyuko would simply wait for him to speak. There was no rush at all, if he needed a minute, an hour, a year or an eternity to prepare himself to speak the words he wanted to say, than so be it. It was evident by the speed at which he spoke and the hesitation in his voice that he was still afraid, even after she told him that there wasn’t a thing he could say that would force them apart.

Their eyes parted as he continued carefully telling about the problem that plagued him. She could only assume how hard it was for him to tell her this and looking straight at her probably didn’t make it easier. It was understandable. And even though she was caught off guard a little bit by the few words he had spoken thus far, her facial expression was mostly neutral with a small gentle smile. Just in case he would look back at her. She didn’t want him to feel like she was judging him in any shape or form, because she wasn’t. Everyone has their own inner demons which can’t be prevented, so why should she judge him for his. Especially an illness of the mind was not something someone choose to have, it just happened. The pupils from the two of them would briefly meet again before he broke contact once more and he would start the bulk of his explanation.

The words Takao spoke weren’t just an explanation, or rather they might be at their core, but it was also a plead at the same time. Speaking to her like she was the jury, judge and executioner. Words filled with a tone that was afraid of being judged by the thing he cared for the most. She had already made up her mind what seemed like ages ago by now and only wished for him to see that. But it was understandable that he was hesitant. As much as one can say that they’ll always be there, people can change upon learning new things. The only thing she could really think of during his entire explanation was how sorry she felt for him for having to burden such a heavy thing. She only wished for a way that she could help shoulder the load or just take it all away.

He pulled up the first memory the two of them shared together. A surge of warmth ran through her body remembering those warm feelings. Herself sleeping in an open field against a tree and him watching over her from the moment they met. Since that moment her heart was already skipping beats for him, too attractive to pass up on and luckily he shared similar feelings for her. The touch of his hand snapped her out of memory and made her focus back on the here and now. She titled her head slightly and leaned into the palm of his strong sturdy hand. Her heart skipping a beat once more, just like it did when they met. Before the two of them would go back to embracing one and another.

You doofus, you don’t have to thank me. Isn’t this what lovers are for? Also don’t be afraid, I’m not going to judge you and I will definitely not ‘execute’ you for being you. I’m glad you told me though, I’m honestly really glad. I…” she hesitated herself for a second. But seeing as he was fully transparent with her, there was no way, she couldn’t do the same.

I was afraid when I woke up in the bed alone earlier. I waited for you to return, maybe you were just like… you know… taking a piss or getting a drink. But seconds to turned to minutes and still nothing…” she gulped before continuing. Having heard his reason for why he left made her feel bad about herself. Why could she have thought of that reason in the first place. “I thou… I thought you left me. That I wasn’t good enough…” she briefly paused after saying that and holding onto him tighter, thinking of what to say next before a thought rushed into her mind. “Don’t you dare apologize!” she said with a very stern voice. She just knew that he would. “It’s not your fault for making me feel that, I just feel too lucky having you and just thought you had enough of me…” she finished of her sentence with a shaky voice.

The sensation of having finally spoken the truth that he feared so greatly wasn’t one that he could necessarily peg down as feeling good, but it did feel relieving in a sense. As though a weight had been lifted off his shoulders, and was no longer required to be carried alone. Only his father had ever known what he had told Fuyuko, and the former had merely piled more of that metaphorical weight on, both figuratively and literally pushing his face into the flames that he once feared more than anything while making the voices that much stronger. He shared in her laughter at this blunders in reciprocating the words of love, even if the embarrassment of stumbling on a simple trifecta of words had certainly set on his cheeks and ears in the form of warmth.

It was a poetic progression for their relationship, to finally vocalize and confess each other’s intense feelings amidst equally intense and passionate flames. It was a memorable occasion, if there was nothing else to be taken from it all.

A weak smile grew on his face as she sternly demanded he not apologize, forcing the words to catch in his throat. He did as she demanded and refrained from apologizing, even if he did feel it was necessary, and only for the moment. It would definitely be something he apologized for later, but not in the current moment. When Fuyuko’s arms held onto him tighter, he did the same, leaving only the most minute space between their forms.

His smile faltered as she continued, but only for an instant. It quickly returned wider than before, and his hand slid behind her head, pulling her into another lengthy kiss. When the two finally parted, he hugged her tight.

“I felt the same way-- I felt like if I told you about this, you’d think I was crazy and I’d lose you. It’s the most scared I’ve been since...” He said, reluctantly pulling himself back to look her in the eyes. He racked his brain, trying to recall the last time the mere possibility of something had truly shaken him at his core, and ultimately failed to remember any time that could compare.

“Since… ever, I think.” He admitted, not fully knowing if he had ever experienced such genuine terror. Some of the more unpleasant and gruesome memories of his childhood briefly resurfaced in his musings, yet they were easily pushed aside in favour of thoughts of her.

“There’s no way I’d ever feel like I’ve had enough of you. It’s kind of the other way around, actually… I constantly feel like I can’t get enough. Like… I always want to spend more time with you, to feel more of you, and-- I-- uh…” He spoke loquaciously, but managed to stop himself as he realized where he was beginning to take the conversation. His cheeks and ears heated up and flushed, not solely from his reckless ramblings but also from the myriad of more carnal thoughts that were beginning to flood his head.

Takao’s grip around her remained firm as his legs tensed and he stood, effortlessly lifting Fuyuko with him without so much as a stumble or struggle. With either hand having readjusted their position to her bottom to better support her weight against him, Takao leaned in to share one more lengthy kiss, filled to the brim with a fiery passion that matched the intensity of the ringed flames dancing around them. The sensation just felt right to him, as though there were two pieces of a complex puzzle within his head, and the kiss they shared brought them together and it was finally complete. It went beyond sheer pleasure, of which his cup runneth over with, and bled into satisfaction and something he related to closure.

Slowly and reluctantly did Takao finally pull away, his disinclination to do so blatant and apparent on his face that lingered a mere inch from her’s. He would savour the taste of her lips long after they parted, even considering leaning in to continue, yet decided against it at the last moment. The placement from his hands had not been entirely intentional, as he certainly hadn’t meant to cop a feel but had chosen the location to support her, yet it still brought a warm shade to his faintly freckled cheeks. The close proximity of their bodies pressed against one another might have let her feel the heavy, rhythmic beating within his chest.

“Would you… mind if we went home now?” He spoke low with a soft rumble in his voice, unwilling to move his face far from her’s. Despite his question and apparent desire to return to her home together, he seemed hesitant to let her down from his arms, and seemed unlikely to do so by his own volition.

“After I, uhm… take care of the... fires… mmh.” Takao added, grimacing silently as his gaze shifted sidelong to the roaring inferno surrounding them. It hadn’t been his intention, at least not solely so, to burn down a large portion of Kirigakure’s forest. He had an excuse at the very least, if not an explanation. He turned back to look into her eyes, again noting the pair of single tomoe floating in the crimson hues, and exhaled a sigh.

“I’m sorry that I made you feel like I abandoned you, or that you weren’t good enough. I know you told me not to apologize, but I can’t help it, Fuyuko. I didn’t mean to make you feel like that, unintentionally or otherwise. I’d never want to hurt you, not even in my worst nightmares. It makes me feel terrible. I should’ve just told you outright, but I know better now. I trust you.” He said, finally allowing the warm smile to return to his face.

It made her happy, the amount that Takao was embracing and hugging her, but also the amount of lengthy kisses they were sharing amongst the roaring flames. The fire sounded almost like a crowd cheering the two of them on as they had finally vocally confessed their feelings for one and another. The thought of a group of people watching them made her face red from ear to ear. Her internal heater running on overdrive from her thoughts as if the heat generated by the flames wasn’t enough on its own.

Knowing how much he struggled with this made her feel reassured. He wasn’t planning on leaving her, the thought probably hadn’t crossed his mind at all. He was just as afraid of losing her as she was afraid of losing him. It was a nice thought but she did make a mental note however. A note about how they should communicate their thoughts and feelings better so that weird misunderstandings can be prevented. There was no need for the two of them to have weird assumptions about each other. At least for herself, but most likely for him as well, they should be able to talk about anything after having opened up like this to each other. While she doesn’t really have a secret that can be compared to his or considered the same ‘level’, she did have her own scared thoughts that she had made vocal.

Her red face only grew warmer as Takao kept on talking. Why did he have to say things like that, it was waaay to embarrassing. As if a cat had caught her tongue, she wasn’t able to utter any more words.  Her eyes rapidly moving back and forth from his to the ground. She was stunned and just didn’t know how to reply to whatever he was telling her. After a few second she just closed her eyes and put the side of her head to rest on his shoulder, she wanted to stay close to him, but just couldn’t bare maintaining eye contact for the moment.

With her eyes closed and her thoughts drifting through the clouds she was abruptly taken away from those. Her muscles tensing up instinctively as she gripped onto Takao harder and her legs tightening their lock around his waist. His hand underneath her bottom and so the two of them raised from the ground. She pulled back in a shock after having squealed a little bit. “W-w-what are you doing?” she said with wide eyes and a surprised look on her face. Not much of a reply was given except for him closing his eyes again and leaning in once more. An answer didn’t really matter and so she met him halfway their lips once more connected as they make another kiss that probably lasted too long.

Their faces parting one final time as they let go of each other’s lips. She giggled lightly after his statement. It was probably better that they didn’t leave the flames in their current state. “You think so?” she said teasingly as she stuck out her tongue a tiny bit to the side.

Eventually it did end up happening, the one thing she really didn’t want to end up happening, him apologizing. She let him speak his mind, it was ruse to interrupt him and he was probably pretty adamant about wanting to do it. When he was done speaking she let her grip go with one arm and gently tapped the back of his head before putting her head on his shoulder again and snuggling into his neck. “You didn’t have to apologize silly and yes, lets go home.” She said as she gently gave a kiss in the nape of his neck. “I love you.” She spoke softly.

As the two of them made their way over back to her house Fuyuko just quietly listened to the strong beat of Takao's heart. It was relaxing and calmed her emotions down. Her crimson hues fading back to their normal chestnut brown. It had been an eventful night that tugged on a couple of heart strings but it was definitely worth it in the end. She would go through it all over again if she needed to in the future.

Despite the evening starting off in pain and rapidly progressing into unbearable agony, Takao could hardly even recall the sensation. She had turned his pain into bliss, and it left him clinging to her lithe form in wordless appreciation. He had not quite articulated the euphoria brought on by her intervention, not just from this specific occurrence, but from the first day they’d met and she had done what no other outside of his own family could.  He knew that such a thing would never happen, but his arms tightened around her, unwilling to even entertain the idea of separating their bodies on the off chance that he would be unable to achieve the sensation again if he did.

When she teased him, his eyes closed and he laughed, leaning in to rest his forehead against her’s. The brief, intimate contact was addictive and left his body with an elated aftertaste. However, responsibility called, and he had made a mess that needed to be cleaned. Peeling his body away from immediate contact, Takao’s head turned whilst Fuyuko remained in his arms. His head lurched forward and one hand slid from her backside, acting as a guide for the flames.

As he exhaled, a plume of chakra was cast over the roaring fires like a net. It latched onto them and, using Takao’s single outstretched hand like a lightning rod on a beach, were slowly drawn closer. He inhaled the singular tendril of flames like a breath and continued to do so until all of the flames that he had spewed forth earlier were gone, leaving behind the scorched earth. Within his lungs, the flames were quickly extinguished, and promptly exhaled off to the side as black smoke from Takao’s mouth and nostrils. With the fruits of his anguish extinguished, Takao turned his head back toward Fuyuko just in time to endure her light tap on the back of the head.

He pouted for naught but a second before he felt the weight of her head on his shoulder, and her warm breath against his neck. His hand returned to support the weight of her body, which was hardly needed, but he would use any excuse to have his hands on her. He tilted his head to lightly rest atop her’s, barely resting any weight at all on her and instead merely enjoying the contact he had so quickly become addicted to. He had noticed her lack of footwear, having assumed that in her heartbroken panic she had forgone them in haste. Even though it had been unintentional, he’d be hard-pressed to forgive himself for inflicting that emotion onto her. Carrying her back to the village so that her feet wouldn’t get worse was the least he could do.

“I love you too, Fuyuko.” Takao responded in an equally soft tone, his chest rumbling lightly against her as he hugged her close. Together, and with her in his arms, the pair made their way back toward the village. There was more to talk about-- so much more-- but for now the only thing that mattered was getting her back home and indulging in much-needed rest. Even as exhaustion rocked his body, he still carried her throughout the forest, and then into the village unhindered. The quiet streets offered no resistance during their journey back home, and before long, he was laying her into the soft bed. After stripping his soot-laden shirt in typical fashion, Takao claimed his spot beside her, almost immediately lightly wrapping an arm around her waist as he shuffled closer.

As he laid at her side, his gaze lingered on her form. Her face, now seemingly to be at peace after they returned, still held trace remnants of the stress of the ordeal. As his black eyes trailed down her body, they stopped at her arms, and an expressive frown overtook his visage. He hadn't noticed her burns before, likely from jumping through his volatile fire. His hand slowly shifted its position and gently touched her limb, careful not to upset the burns he had indirectly inflicted upon her. Not only had he forced her to endure feelings of abandonment, but his outburst had left physical marks upon her body. He had hurt her. The realization that he had done so opened a pit in his stomach and it nearly forced him to retreat, if the conscious thought of having already seemingly abandoned her once in the night stopped him. Instead, it drew him closer, and his leg slowly slid between her's, hooking around one of the two. The aftermath of his voices had hurt the one person who succeeded in taking them away so effortlessly because he had given them free reign. In that moment, he had decided that it would not happen again.
