Mid day and as usual, the chronic learner of Iwagakure was busy doing what he usually did: reading things in the library. Currently, Yusuke had found himself some scrolls pertaining information to Suiton and different kinds of Suiton jutsu. As a user of the suiton element, his attention was immediately hooked. He had happened upon the scrolls early morning after arriving at the library; since then, he had been immersed in the study of those scrolls. It was in the afternoon, that the ruckus outside caught his attention. The noise of people panicking and running, someone crying while someone screaming with pain; it sounded like all hell had broken loose. ”What’s going on out there?”, thought Yusuke as he made his way to the streets.

Medics were escorting injured people to the hospital while their loved ones were panicking and worrying about their well being. Yusuke saw a few people, badly injured. Having no medical expertise, he couldn’t deduce how bad their health was but it felt pretty serious. ”Will daddy be okay?”, asked a little girl hugging her teddy bear as she ran along some shinobi carrying an injured man. ”He’ll be okay, we just need to patch him up at the hospital”, replied a medic with a kind voice. Looking around, Yusuke noticed a lady running away and towards the hospital. He made his way towards the lady, ”What’s going on?”, he inquired from the frightened lady. ”A bull has gone crazy, he injured several people and it’s just running rampant”, she replied as she continued on her way.

”A bull running rampant in the village, that’s seriously dangerous.” , thought Yusuke as he stared in the direction of where people were running away from. The library was located in the middle of where the incident was happening and the hospital. That’s why Yusuke had been able to hear the commotion and was now aware of what was happening. A jounin approached Yusuke from behind and pat on his shoulder, ”Find yourself a comrade and go deal with it”, he instructed as he disappeared right after. Having no idea with what had just happened, Yusuke had no option but to follow the instructions. Why was he chosen to do the job? Who was the jounin? Who would Yusuke find in this commotion? Maybe those questions would remain unanswered. Regardless, he had been given a task and as a genin, it was his responsibility to comply.

Having no game plan, Yusuke headed in the opposite direction of the crowd. What lay in store for the slightly capable genin? Only time would tell. It would take Yusuke a few minutes to get to the scene where the bull had attacked the crowd. After arriving the scene, Yusuke found the herd and the owner of the bull. Apparently, the criminal had escaped the scene and the owner had managed to calm his herd. Medics were still escorting injured people from the scene towards the hospital. Everything was just so chaotic, Yusuke couldn’t make sense of much. The only thing he could fathom was that he was assigned the task to deal with this bull. How? Why? He, really didn’t know.

So to find answers about the bull and what really happened, Yusuke made his way to the owner of the bull. An old man, holding a stick with a long white beard; the expression on the old man’s face could tell the tale of his ordeal. ”Are you alright? Can you please tell me what happened?”, said Yusuke in a gentler tone. He could see that the old man was worried and slightly frightened and this was probably not the best time to ask questions; but what else could he do? Unless he knew what happened and in which direction the bull had run off to, he couldn’t do anything.

Sun. It tended to be sunny when crazy things were happening. Oki and Debu, the dynamic duo of Iwagakure were busy doing what they usually tended to do; nothing of importance. In this instance, they were enjoying the mid-day by sharing a sandwich. Yes, Oki shares food with his bear, this should have been obviously the case. So, as they sat together on the ground, in the middle of the streets, the duo heard a noise in the distance. Odd. What was going on? The noise continued, growing louder. Something was approaching. As Oki stood up, Debu plodding out of the way immediately, a bull came into his peripheral vision. With a panic the bear man leapt to the side, dropping his sandwich immediately; a sandwich that proceeded to immediately become destroyed, crushed in amongst the dusty ground. As the bull departed into the distance, the bear genin clenched his fist, looking onwards in a rage, Debu rolling its eyes as Oki started off. It was personal.

As one can imagine, the bull was a lot faster than the duo, but that didn’t stop Oki and Debu from following, trying to catch up with the rampaging mammal. As time passed, the creature got out of eyesight, instead leaving just the wreckage behind it to follow. People distressed, walls of shops and stalls torn asunder and laid strewn across the earth. Far to his right, the east, would be the hospital, and here Oki stood, amidst the chaos that ensued. The bull did far more than destroy a sandwich it would seem. Logic, to Oki, would state the bull went the path of most destruction, so he continued to follow, Debu plodding along as well. It was then the duo stumbled upon a small herd of generic cattle that seemed very similar to the bull they had prior witnessed. Squinting, the bulky genin ran up to check up on what was going on and happened across… A surprisingly familiar face.

With a shout, he rushed towards the clutter, calling out over the echoes of distress. “Yusuke! Friend! Good to see you in such a time!” his voice would carry faster than the genin himself, who upon arriving offered a smile to the short person and waved. “Perhaps you can assist me! A bull of all things, not unlike these cattle here, running rampant! Would you believe it, on such a wonderful day as this? We must take it out without causing permanent harm to the animal, as I’m sure it is equally distressed! And I will not take no for an answer!” He grinned once more, tapping Debu on the shoulder for a moment with a grin, before picking up the bear, taking a few steps forward, then spinning once. Twice. The third spin, as always, was when he let go, propelling the chubby bear down the streets, Oki taking off after him and calling behind to Yusuke. “The bull went this way, or at least was heading this way!” he declared, dropping to all fours and taking off in a sprint, Debu also running on ahead, further than Oki due to the whole flying bear thing.

Subtle.

While Yusuke tried to get some useful information from the frightened old man, he heard a familiar voice calling out to him. Turning he found Oki, waving and heading towards him. It seemed like luck was on his side, now he wouldn’t have to worry about finding someone to help with the bull. Before Yusuke could ask Oki to help, the opposite happened. Oki asked Yusuke to help him with the bull, would you look at that. ”Okay, yes, let’s go get that bull before it hurts more people”, replied Yusuke as he began running after Oki and Debu too; with Debu in the lead. It appeared that the two knew the direction where the bull was headed so all that was needed was to catch up to it.

After running for a few minutes, Yusuke decided to leap on to the buildings and continue following that way; ”I’m gonna climb the buildings and keep following so that I can see it”, informed Yusuke as he ran on a wall and climbed on top of a house. Then he continued following, jumping roof to roof as he scanned ahead for the bull. Due to the dust and quite a bit of the ruckus, the bull was not within visual range. So Yusuke would continue following the bear and the bear man until the group would come within visual range of the bull. The bull would be in the distance and currently unaware of the shinobi and the bear in the distance. Still quite angry for some reason, with its eyes red, the bull had come to a halt as it looked around for something.

Yusuke would then join Oki back on the ground after the bull’s appearance: ”Looks like it stopped”, would whisper Yusuke. So far so good but what was next? As the two had already agreed on not hurting the bull so capture was the only option left. In that case, how were the two going to make that happen? The bull was still quite angry thus quite dangerous. What would be the best way to approach it? Charging recklessly would probably not be a good idea. Considering their last experience, this time Yusuke decided to take upon himself to devise a strategy. That would be wise right? Well, he could suggest a plan but he couldn’t possibly hope to make Oki follow it.

”If only we had a rope or a red cape, maybe we could lure it into a trap. I only have a kunai and three shuriken on me and I’m assuming you wouldn’t have a rope on you too. So, we could go search for a rope and risk losing the bull or.. we could.. “, he paused as if immediately regretting the idea he had come up with. Considering the situation though, he had no choice so it would have to be done, ”..try a sudden and more direct approach. You throw me onto the back of that bull and once I get on top of it, I blind it so you can knock it down. Then we’ll just to restrain its legs. What’d you think?”, asked Yusuke as he concluded revealing his plan. Just thinking about it made him sweaty but if Oki agreed, it would be time for Yusuke to fly again.

And so, the trio gave chase. Debu was the furthest ahead, having been thrown forwards by Oki. Oki meanwhile was plodding along on all fours behind, keeping pace but showing no signs of catching up without Debu slowing down. Yusuke meanwhile had taken the rooftop route. Quite a serious approach, and if it wasn’t a bunch of genin doing so, one would have thought it was a serious thing occurring, like perhaps an invasion, or a criminal; instead it was a bull. Still, it was a rather efficient way of searching, following the trail of wreckage so as to best find where to go. Minutes passed of searching, before the found the beast, stopped. From his vantage point, Yusuke first pointed it out, before joining the duo on the ground, observing the creature in front of them. It was large, as one would expect from a bull, and probably the only thing larger than Oki in the vicinity. Its hide was a dark brown, like the caramel of Debu, but darker, almost maliciously so. The stark red of its eyes seemed to further this idea, and an involuntary shiver went down Oki’s back as he watched. He wasn’t used to seeing things bigger than himself, so, it was quite a shocker.

Then, Yusuke began explaining his plan. Oki raised an eye, surprised. He must have been impressed with Oki’s prior plan, clearly. Otherwise, why else would he suggest such an Oki like plan? A grin of pride spread across the genin’s face, and if doing so wouldn’t lead to scratch marks, Debu would likely face palm at this point. Or would it be face paw? Bear linguistics is a complex reality. Regardless, there was little hesitation from Oki’s end as the first thing he did was flex, just to check that his muscles were awake. Then, he looked to Debu with a nod, the bear rolling up into a ball and appearing to have its fur grow darker, Oki picking him up like one would expect a normal person to carry a cannon ball. He swung his arms down and to the side, letting the bear’s weight gather momentum, before suddenly, with all his strength, laughing the bear-ball upwards, towards the roof of a building at rather quick speeds. When the form of the curled up Debu reached just above the roof, it unfurled, now standing atop the roof while Oki began the second part. The part Yusuke had just suggested.

With a jolly laugh, Oki grabbed Yusuke by the legs, spinning him around a couple of times, before launching him towards the bull, or more accurately, slightly above the bull, crossing his fingers and toes that Yusuke would adjust his position while above the bull, so as to best mount it. Worst case scenario, Oki’d just grab the damn thing and wrestle with it. He’s wrestled with a snake before, how hard could a rampaging bull be?

Any third person watching the scene would conclude that Yusuke brought it upon himself. Why would he suggest getting himself thrown as an option to the bear guy? Obviously Oki didn’t even say a word of acknowledgement. The doer just did. Before he did though, he hurled his bear on top of a building. Probably some form of elegant plan in motion, not likely but Yusuke hoped that was the case. Then, Oki grabbed Yusuke by his legs, ”I hate this part” commented Yusuke after which he was lifted with ease by the muscular comrade. Once lifted in an upside down position Yusuke was spun. That was the part he was talking about. Getting spun around by his muscular friend wasn’t the most memorable of experiences Yusuke had had before.

Regardless, he was lifted, he was spun and he was thrown in the air, effortlessly too. The bull with its humongous horns was distracted with something as it didn’t notice the little flying shinobi. Within moments of Yusuke’s suggestion, he was in the air and heading straight for the angry animal. Thanks to the cover provided by the vague dust cloud around the bull, due to his jumping and stomping around, Yusuke flew unnoticed and landed on the back of the bull. Now, the flight since it was quiet and hidden due to the smoke went unnoticed, the huge thump on its back wasn’t going to be the most stealthiest of approaches. Immediately feeling the thump and the little weight on its back, the bull noticed the existence of the foreign object: Yusuke. Desperate to hang on, Yusuke immediately grabbed the bull by its horns, literally. Was that the smartest of moves? Perhaps not. The long horns were the pride and joy of the rampaging bull, outraged by the defiling of his horns, the bull began jumping around as Yusuke clung to its back.

Well, Yusuke had made it to where he wanted to be but what was his plan to blind the bull? The plan would have to be executed before Yusuke would fall off and be killed by the angry animal. At this point, hanging on to the bull was a matter of life and death for the fragile genin. As he hadn’t exactly planned what he was going to do, Yusuke did the first thing that came to his mind. He tightened the grip of his right hand on the bull’s horn and used his left hand to make the hand sign of the transformation jutsu. Focusing his chakra, Yusuke disappeared with a cloud of smoke and a strap on eye mask appeared on the eyes of the bull. Ironically, Yusuke hadn’t paid much attention to detail when using the jutsu so he had turned into a pink eye mask.

The previously angry bull was now losing its mind since it couldn’t see anything all of a sudden. And not just that, for some reason that the bull couldn’t understand, the weight on its back was gone. Baffled and confused, the bull stopped jumping around and began swinging its head in an attempt to get rid of the thing on its eyes. Elegant or not, Yusuke had managed to blind the bull as planned. What remained was Oki’s part, which Yusuke had no idea about. He was just glad that for now, his part was taken care of.

Yusuke flew, just as planned. Rather majestically, if Oki did say so himself. Furthermore, the bull was distracted, glaring angrily to the side and oblivious to the shinobi aimed at its back. He watched enthusiastically as his team-mate flew through the cloud of dust, something like right out of an action story, landing on the back of the bull. It was the contact that showed the break in stealth, the bull’s head shooting up in alert as Yanagi made contact. Then the normal ninja grabbed it by the horns. Oh boy. Someone had clearly never heard the metaphor before. It was at that point that Oki began getting ready, fully expecting Yusuke to go flying a second time as he clung for dear life to the horns of the bull. It was like a rodeo, a bucking bronco, and Yusuke was the poor sod on top of the bull as it jumped and bucked wildly, frantically. Oh boy.

Then, Yusuke decided to put his ninja skills to use, and Oki couldn’t help but feel proud of the other genin as, with a poof of smoke, he had disappeared, the bull now blind folded. Of course, as one could expect, Oki hadn’t put two and two together, but that wasn’t going to stop him from doing his part of the job as he cautiously began running towards the rampaging, blind bull, arms at the ready. It was a shame that the bull was rampaging as it was, Oki humming as he tried to figure out how best to approach, Debu leaping from roof to roof dramatically, positioning itself above the bull as best it could. The rusty gears of Oki’s mind began whirring into life, not quite used to having to work out things; but even Oki didn’t want to get hit by the bull. So, he thought as he approached, the bull thrashing about at random. Sometimes Oki felt for sure he would be hit, other times, the bull faced the complete opposite way, horns shattering nearby windows and damaging walls. Still, better walls than people.

But, now it was Oki’s turn to handle the beast. The first step, was to try restrain it, and he’d finally come up with a plan on how to do this. Suddenly, the bear man changed the trajectory of his run, just before hitting the bull as he dived to the side, looking up at Debu with a nod. Upon the sight of Oki doing so, the bear nodded, leaping off the roof it was currently stood on and looking to be about to land on the bull. Shoulder mere inches from the ground, Oki formed a quick hand seal, and where once Oki was, now skidded Debu, out of the way of what would next transpire. And what of the bulk of a genin? Well, where once Debu was, now flew Oki, his momentum from the dive causing him to head slightly forwards in his fall as he gathered chakra into his belly of all things, shifting his weight as he landed on the ground right next to the bull, the earth itself trembling and breaking as a very small crater formed beneath where Oki landed, roughly 5m around him in every direction. The bull was now off balance, and while Oki was on the ground, he had to do something to keep up the momentum and stop the bull from continuing its rampage. With a shout, Oki placed both hands firmly to the ground, thrusting his body weight, specifically his legs, around to hit the back legs of the bull as it buckled under the shifting earth.

Yet Oki was not done.

As the bull fell, Oki rolled, ducking out of the way of the collapsing Bull, before rolling back to wrap his arms around the bull from the side, the bulls legs flailing wildly in the air. A kick to his arm, one that was probably now fractured, as he channelled intense amounts of Doton chakra into his arms, and wrapped tightly around the bull, covering the front legs and torso of the bull in a vice-like grip, determined to prevent it from causing more havoc, keeping away from the kicking of its legs as much as he could. “Now!” he shouted, voice booming through the streets “If you can bind the beast, do it now!” after all, he couldn’t hold on forever. Nor would he want to.

The moment Oki switches himself with Debu, was a jaw dropping moment for Yusuke. However, he couldn’t literally drop his jaw because he had no jaw at the moment because he was an eye mask. It may even be questionable that since he was an eye mask, how could he have witnessed Oki’s awesomeness? Well, as a shinobi transformed into an eye mask, he was capable of sight. Therefore, he witnessed everything that happened. The giant impact that Oki made and then the way he literally wrestled with the bull. One thing was certain, Oki’s muscles weren’t just for show. Yusuke was glad that this promising genin wasn’t a foe but a friend. Maybe he would ask Oki to help Yusuke with his strength training later but right now, he had to focus.

The combination of Oki and Debu proved to be table turning and the bull was thrown off its feet and caught in the arms of the muscular genin. Immediately after Oki instructed Yusuke to bind the bull, Yusuke undid his transformation jutsu. A smoke cloud appeared and then Yusuke reappeared next to the bull. So far so good, even though they didn’t have a good enough plan. They were doing pretty good, weren’t they? Yusuke had actually managed the whole thing without a single scratch. Oki may not have been so lucky but that’s what you get for being strong. Regardless, Yusuke had no time to think up a strategy so he did the first thing that came to mind.

Yusuke was carrying his little bag that he kept his shinobi supplies in. He took out one shuriken and threw it at an angle away from the bull’s front legs. He had thrown it after attaching a chakra string to it using the jutsu he learned from the academy. Using the combination of shuriken and chakra string, Yusuke worked as fast as he could to move the shuriken around and tie all four legs of the bull before it could get free from Oki’s grip. Moments after getting hugged by Oki, Yusuke had wrapped the chakra string around the legs of the bull using his shuriken. ”Great work! We’ve done it!”, said Yusuke as he tightly held one end of the chakra string that was twirled countless times around the bulls legs.

”I’ve tied its legs nice and tight, you can let go now”, said Yusuke with a smile as he looked at Debu. Little did Yusuke realize, that in his attempt to tie the bull as fast as he could; he completely forgot the hands that were holding the bull’s front legs. So, Yusuke didn’t just tie the bull’s legs. He also tied Oki’s hands along with the bull’s legs. As Yusuke smiled and stared at the way he had tied the bull, the realization cam slowly. The smile disappeared and an expression of worry replaced it. ”Oh.. ummmm.. uhhhh… I…sorry?” would say Yusuke, as a sweat would drop off his forehead.

Meanwhile, the bull after being wrestled and tied, had come to the realization that it was not in a land where it could go unchallenged nor in a land where it could win if it was challenged. Therefore, the bull’s rage had actually cooled down. It was probably repenting the damage it had caused to innocent people.

After realizing that he had tied Oki’s hands too, Yusuke unwound the chakra strings and then carefully tied the legs again, this time making sure that Oki’s hand were not caught in the knot. ”Ok, now you can really let go.. Sorry about that”, he would say with an embarrassed expression on his face. Compared to Oki, Yusuke had messed up the one thing he was supposed to do. Regardless, they still managed somehow. The bull was subdued and tied nicely. All they needed to do was find some real rope, use that to tie up the bull and then let the proper authorities deal with it.

Face to the bull, Oki couldn’t exactly see specifics. However, he could hear the sound of something occurring, followed by noises of discontent from the bull. Oki could hear a snicker from his bear companion, or the closest you can get from a snicker from a bear, and found himself raising an eyebrow in confusion. Yet when Yusuke said that he could let go, it became clear. As he released the chakra from his arms, and let his hands go from the bull… The man found himself incapable of moving away anyways. Tilting his head to the side, Oki stared at his team mate, squinting slightly as if trying to show mock judgment. Now, it wasn’t hard to tell Oki loved animals, but this was a bit much.

As the bulls breathing grew less intense, and Yusuke undid his mistake, and did it again properly this time, Oki rolled off the beast, then stood up as Yusuke spoke. He gave a stretch, sighing slightly as he found himself wincing, the adrenaline quickly fading, his body remembering that he was kicked by a bull – his arm hurt quite a bit now. With a pause, he looked to Yusuke, thinking for a moment, before shaking his head and laughing, finding it quite funny. After all, it was quite hard for Oki to possibly imagine; how could someone mistake a team mates arm, with the leg of a bull? This thought, to Oki, was hilarious. So, with a laugh, he nodded, and the trio had seemingly completed their makeshift mission.

An undetermined amount of time later…

The trio sat at a table, outside of a café on the outskirts of Iwagakure. Debu, sat at the table, was lying down, enjoying the remains of some assorted berries, while Oki sat on a chair next to him, laughing with a small, floral cup of herbal team in his left hand. His right arm meanwhile, was at his side in a sling, Oki’s expression was gleeful as he took a sip, likely laughing from recollection as he leaned forwards onto the table. “Aside from tying me to the bull, you did well today Yusuke! I am most proud of you!” he took a sip of his tea, allowing the conversation to progress as it naturally would. What a pleasant way to end a mission!

Finally the two genins managed to accomplish what Yusuke had suddenly been assigned to do. In the distance, a certain shadow stood nodding his head in approval. Regardless of who the senior was, he had given the mission to test the capabilities of the genin of Iwagakure; little did the two genins knew that they had passed the test. Not only just that, the mission was yet another step towards strengthening their friendship and becoming more capable as a team. The ‘authorities’ immediately appeared after the capture was successful, the bull was taken away and a ‘well done and mission accomplished’ was said. All in all, the mission had now been completed; so the two went away laughing as they did so.

After the time skip

”Eat up to your heart’s content” said the smiling waiter as he refilled their cups and presented more tasty dishes. ”Thank you” said Yusuke as he gently bowed his head. The waiter only smiled in return and left. Yusuke’s attention turned to his comrades as he was praised by Oki. Well, almost praised; since he pointed out the obvious mistake that Yusuke had made. Yusuke scratched the back of his head as he smiled embarrassingly. ”ahaha.. sorry about that. I was just too tense”, explained Yusuke as he took another sip of the sake in his cup. Yusuke may have had boyish looks but he was actually not a minor. So drinking was acceptable at his age.

”I don’t know about me but you did amazing. Even though you’re a genin, you’re strong”, Yusuke replied with a compliment as well. The conversation progressed as they also enjoyed the food and the drinks; courtesy of the people they had helped.

Certainly, a fitting end.
