Nakazo Ashitaka

Nakazo Ashitaka

Nakazo made his way through the crowded, condensed streets of Sunagakure. The city was in the middle of a rush hour, with everyone finishing up work for the day, and so things were a little more hectic than usual. The sun was falling from the sky, and in a few hours it would be completely dark. What was once scorching hot a few hours ago had now given way to a gentle cool breeze, and Nakazo relished it, enjoying the weather as he traveled to the agreed upon location. He wore his loose fitting dark blue shirt and black shorts that extended just past his shins. His forehead protector was proudly displayed above his brow, firmly tied into place. His appearance was topped off by the standard tool pouch of a shinobi, placed around the back of his waist, and brown sandals. Nakazo opted not to bring a backpack with a supply of water to this location, something which was almost a necessity in this terrain. Where I'm going, my own water supply won't be necessary. His destination was one of his favorite spots in the village, one of the few idyllic places in such a harsh country. The streets became less crowded as he near the outskirts, and before too long he could see his target in the distance. The Oasis Springs came into view as he approached, the water glimmering from what remained of the light above. The Oasis was a large depression in the sand in which water had been diverted into long ago. A single tree grew out of the water and stone, and a few small bushes and blades of grass dotted the perimeter. It wasn't much, but to the people of Sunagakure this place was special.

Two days ago Nakazo had run into an acquaintance from the academy, Sutaka. Though they had only ever spoken a few times he didn't want to waste an opportunity to have a training partner, and quickly set up a date and time to meet at the Oasis. He had chosen this particular location for a few reasons. The first reason being that it was easy to find, everyone in the village knew of it. The second was the source of water, something which was very valuable when exerting oneself in the desert. With them meeting in the evening it was almost the perfect sparring ground, it was quite cool out now and had everything one would ever need. Nakazo stepped up onto a stone slab carved beside the Oasis and awaited the arrival of Sutaka. I hope he wasn't just humoring me when he agreed to meet and train, he thought to himself, tapping his foot on the stone below. He wouldn't blame him for doing so, however, the two had barely known each other. They were more than a couple years apart in age and so were always in different classes in the academy, and only crossed paths a few times. Shadows began to fall over the village as the Ashitaka stretched out over the stone slab, waiting patiently.

The hours passed by as Nakazo laid out on the stone slab beside the oasis. The water and the cool breeze was very relaxing and the ninja soon passed into a slumber. The sun went down in the time he had slept, and the desert oasis began to grow cold. The days were hot out in the Wind Country, and the nights could be deathly cold. Suddenly the Ashitaka awoke to darkness, and he was keenly aware of his body shivering. I must have been out out for hours, was his first thought as he scanned the aware. It took him a few moments to realize why he had come out here in the first place, but when he remembered he looked for any sign of Sutaka. There was no indication that the person he had intended to meet had ever showed up. Nakazo was disappointed to find that he had been stood up in his meeting, but he supposed something more important must have came up, and wouldn't hold it against Sutaka. He replenished himself on some water from his backpack while he considered his options. He could go home and just call it a night, or he could stay out here by himself and get some quick training in.

Nakazo decided that it would be too much of a waste to just head home without gaining anything in. I hate zero days, he thought to himself, taking a last sip of water. He started with a warm up. The Genin ran a couple laps around the perimeter of the oasis, taking in the smells of water and enjoying the breeze as his body warmed up from its slumber. It wasn't often that he was out this far at night, so it was a nice experience for the ninja to train in these conditions. When his run was complete he went through a couple of shadow boxing routines he had been taught. He willed himself to go harder and faster with each successive one until he had tired himself out. After taking a break and topping off another container of water he went back at the routine again. He followed that up by working on his kicks, striking one of the solid trees that surrounded the oasis. The bark was tough and by the time his fifteen minutes of kicking it was finished his leg was sore, not just from the exertion of it, but from making contact with the tree. He was sure he would have bruises in the morning, and he may have even drawn a little bit of blood, but the exercise and training was worth such things. Nakazo finally finished everything off with a sprint around the oasis at full speed. He wanted to burn off whatever energy he had left at this point, and also wanted to see just how fast he could go.

He was completely exhausted at this point, and he packed up his bag and headed home, the lights of Sunagakure in the distance guiding him. He wondered what had happened to Sutaka that he couldn't show, and he thought of rescheduling their practice for a better time.
