Fukai had his remaining squad members stationed on the wall around the town. They would be evenly spaced out, looking over the plained while attempting to get as much rest. Fukai would stay down below, waiting for the signal. He was sitting with the doctor, watching him heal his two young charges. He hoped they would get better well, for their sake and the mission. He had to leave that job to the doctor though, and prepare himself for what may come. Only a couple of hours he had to wait before help would arrive. The thing was, he knew that the bandits would understand the response times of the anbu well. They would be sure to strike and then withdraw with all that they could, if they could.

It had been a quiet hour before the signal echoed through the town. A call from one of the children alerted Fukai to the oncoming danger. One by one they appeared before him, ready and waiting for his command. “Where are they?” He asked them.
“About ten mintues away. There are a large group of them”
“Give me a number”
“About thirty or so I think”
Thirty, at least those numbers weren’t overwhelming. Just maybe they could do this.
“Alright, all of you stand up on the wall. You will be stopping them from scaling the wall and getting into the town. I will stay below the wall and stop them from attacking the gate. We will force them to come at us in small numbers.”

He looked down at his young squad. Some sort of inspiring speech might be in order here, but for the life of him, he couldn’t think of one. “Try your best. Cover each other. Do what you can. You are all amazing soldiers, you can do it.” This would have to do. With that, he sent them up the wall.

The group of bandits finally came into view. Fukai was now standing outside the walls, in front of the gate. His squad were standing on the wall above him. Now that he had time to plan their approach, he had them stand at a much safer spot than himself, hopefully he could absorb most of the attention and not have to worry about the kids. He would again have to let them do their own thing, their survival was up to them while he was occupied. And then dark silhouettes broke the horizon.

They came swarming, running full pelt at the wall. Fukai shouted at his squad to ready themselves. He would hold the gate down below with most of the danger, the kids were to guard the walls and protect the village should the bandits get past the jounin. There were about thirty of them, the report was right. Fukai drew his staff, holding it clenched in his two hands. He would be between a rock and a hard place here, but he would not put his squad in further danger, especially after their earlier efforts. As the crowd of bandits drew up to about fifty metres away, they slowed to a stop, only long enough for a large man to walk out the front and bark orders. Fukai wondered what exactly their approach to this siege scenario would be. Naturally, the defensive party had the advantage, but Fukai himself would not be taking that advantage.

It was only half a minute after they had stopped when the group started moving again, the outlaw warriors charging at the wall. Ten or so were out the front, the rest were a little behind. Fukai watched them carefully, looking to see if there would be any clues in their body language as to what they were about to do. There it was, hand seals were being woven by the few out the front. Ninjutsu,.. fireballs. Fukai called out in warning a second before the huge balls of flame were spat up at the top of the walls. These bandits were smart, it looked like they knew that it would be extremely hard to mount the walls with such a small number of people. It looked like they were trying to eliminate some of the guards or even just provide some covering fire. Fukai hoped that they were prepared to use the jutsu that he had taught them, and that they were confident enough in their actions that they could take on these enemies. He had his own problems to worry about, two great fireball jutsu came roaring towards the gate. Even though these were large and intimidating jutsu, their power was spread thin and easy enough to handle by a shinobi of his calibre. He charged his staff with chakra and batted at the fireballs, one after the other, forcing his chakra into the core of the flames. His own chakra punctured straight through, and the fire withered and flickered into nothingness, leaving a little smoke and heat behind.

Fukai looked up at the wall above him, trying to glean any information on how his squad was coping. He could see little faces on the wall, raising their weapons towards the fire and executing the same jutsu that he had just used, the Exorcism jutsu that he had taught them previously. They were stressed, but they seemed to be accomplishing a well coordinated defence. One after the other, each fireball was dealt with, the fire disappearing into the arid mountain air. But they would not have any rest just yet. The charge had reached the base of the wall. The bandits were using the supernatural walking practice to scale the granite. A dozen headed up the wall, and another dozen were running towards Fukai. They wanted to break through the gate, as it was the main weak point of the wall. But there was one problem with that plan, and that problem had already lost his patience for these people.

They came all at once, trying to overwhelm Fukai. He stepped out to meet him, so that he would have room to move and wouldn’t be so pressed up against the wall. He pulsed raiton through his weapon while he held it by his side. The first to reach him were a group of four. They held an assortment of blades, held tightly in their hands. Their rush was uncoordinated and sloppy, disrespectful of Fukai’s potential. From the resting position, he lashed out. Four successive strikes at their throats and faces, like that from a viper. Dead on contact, their bodies spasmed before hitting the ground. The next wave came, unaware or uncaring for the demise of their comrades. There was eight or so left, circling and then charging in. Fukai leapt out to bat away the weak sword guard and carve down through the man’s chest. The men lashed out to get at Fukai, only reaching thin air as he stepped back towards the gate. The next pair came in, simultaneously slashing at him. Fukai darted further back, giving ground, before slapping away one of the knives and slicing up his wrist. Taking advantage of the man’s cry, he cut down his partner with two diagonal cuts and then swung around and carved a mortal wound into his shoulder. Fukai danced back, his back heel finally touching the grate of the iron gate behind him. There were now only a handful left.

This was a tricky spot, and to make things worse, the remaining five looked like they were more wary of Fukai’s hit and run approach. Time to switch things up. As they were approaching pointy end first, the Iwagakure operative did something they were not expecting. He jumped at their weapons. He held his staff across him and lit it ablaze with fuuton chakra this time, forming a huge wind shield that smashed into the front couple. He bent back and whirled the staff over himself in a diagonal windmill and smacked away each remaining bandit, sending them away flying and concussed. He stood and surveyed the situation again. It had been a quick tussle with these grunts and their bodies littered the floor. A few were stirring but they would no longer pose much of an obstacle. Before him stood a large man that had been at the back of the bunch. He had advanced on the gate while Fukai had been distracted, and now he was about to engage himself.

His hands came together in a two handed fist, forming one of the cornerstone seals of doton ninjutsu. Fukai wouldn’t have much time to react to whatever was coming. He steadied himself and then ran at him, keeping his weight evenly above his lower half so he would be on balance and ready to change his movement if necessary. Fukai wobbled on the ball of his front foot as the ground started to shake. Before his eyes, a massive shape emerged from the ground. An eighteen foot soldier of dirt grew beneath the bandit’s feet and now had him perched on his shoulder. Fukai was taken aback, almost too late to dodge the forward step of the golem as it approached the wall. He was trying to ignore him, going straight for the wall. Fukai couldn’t let him do that, he would have to bring this thing down. The foot came down, smashing into the ground and flattening some of the unconscious bandits. Looking up at the top of the wall, his squad were doing well, and had taken care of most of the men attempting to scale the wall. They had taken notice of the moving statue and had started to cower. This would be something that he had to handle himself.

He knew that the golem would still be comprised of chakra, and therefore if he expelled the chakra, he could destroy the jutsu itself. The large dirt and stone hand was nearing the wall, looking like it was about to smash through the wall. Fukai got to his feet and ran for one of the stone legs. He only came up to the giant’s thigh and the man atop the statue was unreachable from here. He charged his staff with an Exorcism jutsu of his, one that was of a higher tier than the one that had been taught to his squad. A full power smack to the back of the giant’s knee sent his own chakra into the dirt structure, pushing out the chakra that held it together. The staff, still covered with the savage winds of his enhancement jutsu, smashed straight through the knee and sent it crumbling down to it’s hands and knees. The man atop the statue was sent toppling to the ground, dazed and jarred from his fall. He looked up just long enough to see a figure sailing towards him, purple chakra ablaze around him and red scarf billowing in the wind. Fukai brought his staff down on the man, smashing him down to the floor and snapping the tendons through his spine. A little out of breath, Fukai rose to look at the town around them. It was over. Bodies littered the ground. And while they were not all dead, they wouldn’t take much to clean up from here.
