The morning humidity was already setting in as Tomoya got to the edge of the small village. He smiled as he walked inside it, because he felt, somehow, like he'd been there before. Of course he hadn't, he'd spent almost his entire life either in major Ninja villages, or travelling between the main villages. There had never been a reason for him to go to the coast before, but he had to admit it was oddly beautiful. it was highlighting the horizon, the waves lapping up on the beach. He sort of wished he could go see the beach up close and personal, but right now there was something more important than sight seeing. He had been ordered down here so that he could go help out with a trap. They'd been hoping for a team of three genin, but that wasn't going to happen. They'd get one chunin and they'd like it. Still, it wasn't like he was green or anything like that, he had already taken out an entire gang of chunin, beating the four against one odds easily and not coming off any worse for the wear.... well, not much worse for the wear. The medics had been able to heal his broken nose, and he'd gotten more than enough revenge. Still, maybe word of his exploits hadn't gone this far, as the entire town seemed to be glaring at him from inside their houses. He shrugged it off, knowing that they had all the right in the world to be annoyed at him being sent to the town on his own. He was one person, what was he going to do? Had Sunagakure abandoned them? No, no it had certainly not, but he had specifically asked for this mission and he had no team of his own... not yet anyway. He continued walking through the town until he got to the main building in the town, the office of the head of the village. Tomoya pushed open the front door and walked inside, expecting to find the head of the clan and... well, he found him.

Standing inside the office of the village leader was, as you might expect, the village leader. He was an old man, with white hair tied up in the same way a samurai might. It was strangely majestic, as it was also complimented with a kimono. If it wasn't for how rotund the man was, Tomoya could actually have believed that he was a retired ninja. the man must have been sixty, maybe seventy, and the years had clearly been kinder to his face than the rest of his body. His face seemed to have been complimented with age, but his body seemed to have atrophied. He was currently looking out of his window towards the coast, and it took Tomoya clearing his throat for the man to turn around and look at him. For a moment, he smiled, but then his smile turned into an uncomprehending look of confusion. The words that came out of his mouth were the ones that Tomoya had been expecting, but not dreading, since he entered the town
"nice to have you here, but where's your team?" he shrugged and put his hands inside his overcoat, and said gently
"I'm afraid, sir, that I'm the only aid that's available to be lent. With Kirigakure's recent destruction, the village seems to be more busy with looking after the refugees than sending people to protect your town. They think I'll do, however, and you're in for a change of luck because I am." He smiled cockily, which seemed to cheer the old man up, but only for a moment. Then his face returned to seriousness, and started to talk

"What do you know about the trap that we've laid out for the bandits? I want to know how much we need to explain to you, in order for us to be on the same page.". Moving to sit down in a seat opposite the desk, tomoya shook his head.
"I'm sorry, I just got into town. I don't know anything, but I'd love you to fill me in." the man nodded, but then a thought crossed his mind
"First thing's first, you can call me Jōshi"
"I'm Tomoya, pleasure to meet ya"

After the moment's introductions, the talk began. To begin with, he talked about what the pirates had done so far. That much Tomoya actually knew, or at least the basics. This was a lot of information about exactly what they'd done, whilst Tomoya had merely been told that they'd attacked several towns. Tomoya was actually a little bit disgusted by the crimes he was being told about. Who'd do stuff like this to other people? He was glad, he realized, that these people were going to be punished, and he only wished that he could have been the one to make it happen. He'd have to just work alongside the townsmen and get this done, then he could go back and find a mission where he could personally punish some people. He sighed, but his smile was still there. He patiently listened until the man had finished talking. The plan seemed simple enough, apparently all he had to do was make sure that they were distracted and dishabilitated enough to lead them into the middle of town without them knowing. He had the perfect idea how too. He smiled, this technique that he designed for himself was so unimagineably useful. Thankfully, even though the village wasn't located in the desert like Sunagakure is, there was a beach nearby so he had an idea about where he could get the raw materials. Finally, the man asked him the all important question, the question that he had just started hoping that he would ask
"Is there anything specific you need for the trap?" Tomoya nodded, and said plainly and simply
"Yes... I'm going to need a whole lot of sand." The man seemed a little surprised that it would be something so specific. What was this guy, some kind of Gaara?
"How much sand?"
"Oh.... how much do you think you can get before they arrive?"

By the time the pirates arrived, it was several hours later. an alleyways worth of sand had been prepared by their way into town and Tomoya was sat on a low rooftop, close enough that he could manipulate the sandstorm but not low enough that he'd get trapped in it. He had to make sure that they didn't see anyone in the town until they got trapped in it. He smiled as he saw them slowly approach through the now completely empty city streets, walking as if they owned the town. It would be their judgement day any minute now

***

The ten men were walking through the streets, looking around, a little surprised. Nobody was here. This was strange, of every village they'd raided so far, there hadn't been a single one that was completely empty like this. The main pirate, the one wearing body armour, was laughing cruelly
"The cowards must have fled the moment they heard we were coming. After all, we've destroyed so many towns already." The other men agreed, but still they felt something was off about the whole situation. It shouldn't be happening like this, what town would leave when threatened with ten people? And what was that cold wind that was going around them? It hadn't been there earlier. Surely, even in areas like this, there couldn't be random weather changes.... right? This was the land of wind, so maybe that meant.... oh shit!

So, the men had already realized what was going on? Tomoya smiled and clicked his fingers, the storm kicking up quickly, blinding the entire street. It would be completely confusing, they would be disorientated, but with their minds like it was, they'd continue walking into town, not knowing that that was exactly where they wanted them. Then, as promised, voices started coming out from ahead, challenging them to come fight them if they thought they were hard enough. It was all part of the plan, which seemed to be working as the men continued forwards, blindly entering the area that they'd designed the trap. Finally, they left the sandstorm and... stood on the fake ground. It had been designed earlier by a ninja of the village who specialized in traps. It was the classic pitfall trap, but it was so big that they could never climb out of it, not even with jumping. It was, honestly, a rather funny image, seeing them trapped like rats. They'd won, but there was one more thing that they needed to do.

***

It was ten minutes after the trap had been sprung and they still hadn't been able to get out. Their voices from within the hole were screaming obscenities at the people who had been beaten. Three ninjas walked forwards, doing the same series of handsigns, before forming up equally spaced around the hole, performing their handsigns which they finished, causing a burst of flame to come out of their index finger on their right hand, firing into the hole and cremating every last one of the pirates alive. Their screams were almost inaudible over the crackling of the fire, and the moment both had died down, the head of the village walked forwards, performing his own signs, and touching the ground with his foot, slamming it down. The earth healed over where the cremation pit lay, forming it with a proper top soil, that nobody would fall into. The pirates who had hoped to destroy the town ended up being part of the building blocks of the town. Ironic, really, when you think about it.

The village elder turned back, and Tomoya moved to walk next to him. He laughed lightly, as he looked with pride at his assistant in this. He stuck his hand out to be shaken, which Tomoya willingly shook with his mechanically augmented hand. The man looked at it with interest, before saying
"Thank you, my friend... if it wasn't for you, they wouldn't have fallen for it" Tomoya blushed slightly and his other hand ruffled through his own hair embarrassedly
"I didn't really do anything... but if you really want to thank me..." He said slowly, teasingly, making the man want to know what his want was. It was a simple want, nothing that was too drastic
"....Keep your alliance with Sunagakure. The village will always protect it's friends." The man nodded happily, beaming so brightly it looked like it could illuminate even the darkest of nights
"Don't you worry my friend. After a display like this, there is no way that we'd break our alliance. Besides, if all of Suna's chunin are as good as you, we'd have to be mad to make enemies of you!" Tomoya nodded, but then a thought crossed his mind, something he realized he should have thought of a long time ago. The assassination....
"Also, I need you to find me a building far away from everywhere, where I can do what I want for an entire afternoon... and I need for you not to let anyone else know about it. It'll be our dirty little secret." The man nodded and tapped his nose slightly
"Mum's the word. I'll see what I can do."
