The Raikage (雷影; Literally meaning "Lightning Shadow") is one of the five great Kage of the Naruto world and leader of Kumogakure. There have been ten Raikage so far in the history of the village and are generally known as the strongest in the village. Each of them making rather large contributions to not only their village's advances, but also having a large impact on the shinobi world. With each Raikage elected, they must go through a rite of passage to see if the individual is prepared for the duty of Raikage; it is called the Trial By Thunder. The candidate is taken to a secret location in Kumogakure no Sato that is miles away from any form of civilization. During the trial, the candidate is surrounded by the specters of the past Raikage given physical form temporarily. The candidate must chose a past Raikage and fight them in a one-on-one, no holds bar fight to the death. Should the candidate win, they are recognized by the past Raikages as an acceptable heir to the seat. However, losing will result in death. Each of the Raikage had done this before hand in order to become who they are now...

Kazuyto Shinkama, a.k.a Kumo's First Scout. It was a dark time for the nomadic group of travelers that were looking for a piece of land that they can call their own. During those times, traveling villages would try and find a place of their own to live in that wouldn't be ravaged by bandits or battles between other villages. It was at that time, Kazuyto was merely the son of the first leader of their band of nomads. He served as merely a scout whom was in charge of finding locations where they could live. He had mastered manipulation of static electricity that was gained passively with friction caused by the steps you take. He used that built of electricity in his legs to have him move at insane speeds. During those eras, Kazuyto held the title as the fastest shinobi throughout the known world.

When he became leader at the age of 17 after his father was killed during a raid, the young leader found a possible spot for his people to live in. A valley of mountains where they could possibly build a life away from the fighting factions. But what the young leader didn't know was the land was occupied; and it was occupied by something not human. A senjutsu wasp clan had lived their before and attacked Kazuyto's nomads. He knew that they couldn't turn away, his people were too tired to keep on searching aimlessly for a place to live. So the young man fought and by promising nearby travelers a place to stay in his village should they assist, they fought off the Wasp Clan and drove them under the underbelly of mountains that were near Kaminari no Kuni's borders. The war went on for 5 years, but Kazuyto had done it. He had established a village where his people can live in peace...for now that is.

Nam Ikibaiya, a.k.a Kumo's Great Battleship. A childhood friend of the first Raikage, Nam served the band of nomads in a more combat orientated way. He was a warrior that would fight on the front lines should their group be ambushed by bandits. In each of those skirmishes, Nam had not lost a single battle. With each win, he would take the weapon of the foe he had just defeated and leave the corpse for the crows to feast on. Throughout the lands they traveled, Nam had created a reputation for himself as a demon that could not be defeated. So many small time bandits would not even think about challenging the group. When Kazuyto and the wasp clan fought over the mountains, Nam had fought alongside Kazuyto; training the travelers that wanted to help in trade of residence. It was admittedly that without Nam's combat knowledge, they would have lost to the wasp clan.

Soon after they had won the mountains, Nam proposed that they chase down the wasps and demand them to teach them in the ways of senjutsu. Seeing the way the wasps fought had peeked the young man's interest; such power should be used to strengthen the village, not turn it away. Kazuyto, not seeing the opportunity, believed it was a bad idea and they should first respond with ensuring stability in the village they had just created. Nam couldn't accept that as an answer and left in fury in search of answers. He hunted down the wasps and raided their library in search of other senjutsu clans. He found one near the settlement of Konoha that was the Porcupine senjutsu clan. He quickly became a sage after 5 years of tutelage and came back to Kumo. When he would take the seat as Raikage, Nidaime would use his senjutsu abilities in the wars to come against the other hidden villages.

Omega, a.k.a Kumo's Strongest Shield. The Third's rule was punctuated by the berserk attacks of the Eight-Tails but as Kumogakure couldn't afford to dispose of such a valuable war deterrent, he was forced to look for a suitable jinchūriki in quick succession, after the conclusion of each rampage. During one of these attacks, the Third fought the Eight-Tails alone, allowing his comrades to escape. Their battle resulted in the Raikage receiving a self-inflicted wound to the chest after he collapsed upon his own hand, which became his life's shame. Since this event, he made it a personal duty to combat the Eight-Tails whenever its jinchūriki lost control, with even his son eventually becoming part of the group that supported him during these occurrences. He chose to seal the Eight-Tails in the Kohaku no Jōhei, resulting in his nephew's death, hoping that someone else would have more success in controlling it.

At some point he also mentored Darui, passing the secrets of the Black Lightning technique down to just him. In his later years, he once faced an opposing force of ten thousand shinobi single-handedly for three consecutive days and nights, in order to allow his comrades to escape to safety. He eventually died as a result of this encounter and with his death, the position of Raikage was passed onto his son, A. He would however become renowned for his extraordinary level of durability, endurance, and strength above all else, to the point where his body itself would become reputed as the "strongest shield." Throughout all the Trial By Thunders done by the proceeding Raikages, none of them wished to challenge Omega due to their life being in danger against his reputation.

A, a.k.a Kumo's Hammer and Nail. A is the son of the Third Raikage. At some point in the past, a group of young children were gathered in order to determine who would be A's tag-partner in keeping with a long-standing Kumogakure tradition of the Raikage having a tag-team partner. Only one child was able to successfully match A's power and use the Double Lariat on a training dummy. As a result, that child was given the name "B", and A stated that they would be brothers from that day on. He and B would eventually be teamed together on a mission with A's cousin, the jinchūriki of the Eight-Tails. Some time during the Third Shinobi World War, A would clash with Minato Namikaze for the first time. Before Minato retreated he recognized Killer B as the jinchūriki of the Eight-Tails and told A that next time they met it would be to put the title of "Kage" on the line. It was noted that the only person to have ever surpassed A's speed while he is using the Lightning Armor release was the Yondaime Hokage, Minato Namikaze and his son Naruto Uzumaki. They would clash many more times after that. A was once even told by Jiraiya that he believed Minato was the "Child of Prophecy". When A's father died, he inherited the title of Raikage.

Years later, A led the other hidden villages against the Akatsuki threat over the shinobi world by being the supreme leader of the Allied Shinobi Forces during the 5th Great Shinobi War. During the war, A had come in contact with Sasuke Uchiha whom had attacked him and the other kages during the Kage Summit. Although A had defeated the young Uchiha, it wasn't without the cost of his arm that he done so. With his right arm gone, A had to rely on his right hand man Darui for assistance. The two worked closely together until he felt that it was time for him to retire the seat of Raikage onto Darui, for he was far more responsible as the next candidate unlike his younger Brother Killer B.

Darui, a.k.a Kumo's Black Knight. An exceptional ninja in the field, Darui was always a shinobi that was looked up to by his peers. He graduated the top in his class and soon climbed to the rank of jounin just before he turned 15. A genious that was able to master suiton and raiton while in the academy, Omega saw the promise in the child and began instructing him in the arts of black raiton as soon as Darui graduated from the academy. He was instructed not to use such a technique until he was a jounin, since at the time he had great mastery but not enough chakra to take the exhaustion of using such a technique. To be sure, Omega had a seal placed onto Darui that would prohibit him to use the technique until he was strong enough to remove the seal on his won. Darui complied to the Sandaime's wishes and did not use the technique until he was ready.

Darui assisted greatly in the 5th Great shinobi war, pulling off feats that was noted in legends to come. During his time in the 5th Great Shinobi War, Darui was the leader of the First Division of the Allied Shinobi forces; where he fought and defeated the Gold and Silver Brothers single handed. It was later in the war, that A would teach Darui how to use the lightning armor taijutsu technique before Darui had taken up the office as the Godaime Raikage. During his term, Darui had taken the Lightning Release Armor into a whole different level that was farther than both the Sandaime and the Yondaime could have taken the technique: Darui fused both Black Raiton and Lightning Release Armor into one technique. This technique caused the Raikage to be called the Black Knight.

Lin & Lo Kuang, a.k.a Kumo's Two-Headed Serpent. Children raised by a civilian family that were apart of a church, Lin and Lo were adapt at using chakra while they were in their diapers. As toddlers they would use their arts to get themselves in all sorts of trouble. Their parents believed that they were apostles from God himself because of their abilities they demonstrated. If it wasn't for a shinobi on patrol in the small area of Kaminari no Kuni, the two chidlren would not have gotten out of the village to be able to control their abilities wisely. At the age of 4, the twins left their family and moved to Kumogakure with the shinobi that was on patrol in the area. Her name was Kaede, and took care of the two as is they were her own children. At the age of 8, they had the chakra control and techniques of a seasoned jounin. They graduated the ninja academy in just 1 year of attending and promoted to genin.

Of course the twins were in the same team together as they had the strongest tag team pairing since the Yondaime and his younger brother the 8 tailed jinchuriki. While Lin was a master at suiton, fuuton and genjutsu; her brother Lo was a master at katon, doton and taijutsu. They both were masters at raiton; separately their powers were amazing, but together their collaboration jutsus were borderline supernatural. When they were 11 they challenged the Godaime Raikage to a match for the seat of Raikage. Grudgingly, Darui accepted and surprisingly enough lost to the children. Darui at that time was in his middle ages and was looking for a replacement for his seat of Raikage, and felt uneasy that children would be taking his seat. His advisers and the shinobi council told him to rest easy as they would oversee and teach the children how properly lead a village until they were of right age. Finally accepting it, Darui let his seat be taken by the first Raikage o have their term be joint; the Rokudaime Raikage.

Taiya Akiyama, a.k.a Kumo's Siren. Known for her sound based techniques, she was the young guardian of the twin dragons once they reached old age. Even though they were very elderly, they were still a handful getting into trouble despite the symbol they are supposed to upheld as Raikage. If it wasn't for her, who knows what trouble they would get the village into. She used her sound based techniques as ways to track the twins down in case they would try to escape from her motherly watch over the two of them. Of all the shinobi who were tasked to watch the elder twins, none of them were able to find them as fast as Taiya.

Growing up, Taiya raised quickly into the ranks, being arguably just as strong as the Kumo sannin while she still held on to the rank of jounin. It was for that purpose that she became the captain of the elite guard to protect the twins while they are in public. Her physical strength was said to have surpassed that of Sakura Haruno of Konohagakure. She even crafted her own weapon; gauntlets made out of a special alloy where fused with her chakra she can have it emit power sound waves just by them moving through the air. As a taijutsu master, she was noted to have been able to fight toe to toe with the children of Metal Lee with their gates opened at 7. She was also noted to being a skilled tactician, using her sound manipulation to her own benefit. It's also noted that she was the sensei of the Hachidame Raikage Midnight; whom she would bring along with her during guard duty to watch over the twins.

Midnight, a.k.a Kumo's Seeing Eyeglass. Shortly after he came into this world as an infant, his mother passed away from the exhaustion of childbirth. What she left was a child that was gifted in not only the powers of lightning but also a long lost element that was not seen in years; Swift Release. It was those two components that led the man to climb the ranks into becoming the next Raikage succeeeding the Twin Serpents. In fact they liked Midnight's playful attitude since it reminded the two of them how they acted when they were young. Of course they let Midnight take their place as Raikage.

From the Daisuke Akiko case, to the resurgence of Hao, Midnight had a certain aura of neutrality when it came to global affairs. He believed that Kumo should not interfere with these matters as it would disturb the peace they had so hard struggled for, and would be an insult to the Shidai Raikage. Midnight would take in a squad of his own that included Sanosuke Flynt, the Raikage that would succeed Midnight's successor. They both shared one characteristic that was a crucial part of their strength: they both gained their powers from the demonic path of the Durian tree at birth. Despite sealing away the genetic information that allowed him to use Swift Release because it was shortening his life, Midnight had a rather large arsenal of skills that made him earn the title of Raikage. Implanted in his right eye was the byakugan that he had retrieved on his travels. When he left Kumogakure to become a traveler, he would always have his all seeing eye trained on Kumo to ensure that his home village is indeed safe.

Reika Misora, a.k.a Kumo's Loving Mother-Hestia for short. Even as a child, Reika would always have a loving and caring nature to her peers. In the academy she's the first person to lend a helping hand to the students that are unable to get a firm grasp over a subject that is troubling them. She knew that there will be some people that will not like her, despite her efforts, but the young girl tried. She graduated the ninja academy as the best liked and not only worked as a shinobi but also as an alumni tutor for the academy as well. This loving nature of hers would passover as the young girl became a young woman.

Everyone in the village loved Reika, which is why people would call her Kumo's mother. Her name was known throughout the village even before she took the seat as Raikage. When she did however, that was when she was given the alias as Hestia; after the Greek Goddess of Hearth and the home. When she took the seat of Kyudaime Raikage, everyone was excited that she took the seat as Raikage; Reika was the only one whom was concerned about Midnight when he suddenly disappeared at the time she took office. The beautiful Misora would demonstrate her love for her country by standing up against the Shichouza as they threatened to make Kumogakure their next target. Reika's pride and love for her country showed in the Kage Summit as she would lash out at the kages whom would speak ill of her children and home. Years later, Reika was assassinated by a mysterious entity that is still at large. Her successor, Sanosuke Flynt, is hot on the trail of the murderer. But will he be able to avenge her?

Sanosuke Flynt, a.k.a Kumo's Hidden Claw. Originally born into a smaller village within the Thunder Country on the outskirts of Kumogakure, one would not expect as a child he would grow to be a future leader of the village hidden in the clouds; especially when his family stigmatized the shinobi system. But despite this, Sanosuke had climb the ranks of this system starting at the very bottom. All of his peers --even originating from back into the shinobi academy where he was in the same year as the Kyudaime Raikage Reika-- they all could testify for Sanosuke's tenacity and character as a shinobi. It was no surprise that, in time, the man would later be named the 10th Raikage of the Village Hidden In the Clouds. His village could identify the Raikage on his favorite henge form he took the habit of transforming into; that being a black cat.

Taking office after the effects of the Seven Bells War, Sanosuke had determined to use his experiences of his travels and his knowledge he had gathered as a shinobi to dictate how he would run the village. Under his name, Kumogakure stood as a strong beacon of strength that stood its own against other villages' presence. Known throughout the world as one of the world's greatest sages and a master swordsmen in his own right, there's no surprise why attacks on the village were small in number. A significant number of elite Kumo shinobi can root their training to Sanosuke Flynt himself, as he himself was taught by Midnight, who was in turn taught by the Nanadaime Raikage Taiya Akiyama. Similarly to how Midnight has taken it up to his own to watch the village from afar, when it was time for Sanosuke to pass on the torch to his recent student, Lin Katonrai, Sanosuke as well solemnly swore to do the same as Midnight. Defending the village from afar Sanosuke, Kumo's Hidden Claw, will protect his village from all outside threats before they become relevant problems to his homeland.
